Hi, I was just watching a stream on twitch on my media computer witch is hooked up to a TV through VGA. The thing is that the computer is old and can't handel streams realy well, and some streamingservices does not support Linux (I use lubuntu). So my thought was to plug in a chromecast to the hdmi port on the computer, then pass that along and out the VGA port to the TV. Reason why I can't plug the chromecast straight into the TV is that the hdmi ports are broken and don't work. I thought there might be some way to do this. The computer is an old HP Compaq presario cq62, and running lubuntu as said. Thankful for all responses.

I am trying to install Lubuntu 18.04 on a MacBook pro with no operating system. When I try to boot up I get these errors: [MODSIGN: Couldn’t get UEFI db list ] and Couldn’t get size: 0x800000000000000e When I try nomodeset it first it displays this error: [drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module! Then is puts me into a loop of errors that do not end When I try to use the "try Lubuntu without installing" option with nomodeset it just stays in a never ending loading screen. I have a picture of the errors and my MacBook's specs below. MacBook Pro 15-Inch _Core 2 Duo_ 2.33 Specs (Core 2 Duo_Late 2006, MA610LL, MacBookPro2,2, A1211, 2120)_ EveryMac.com.mhtml

Hello All! I'm currently having trouble figuring out how to run a shell script that executes with root privilege after the arriving at the desktop in Lubuntu 20.04. Unfortunately, the built in Autostart functionality in the LXQT configuration manager doesn't execute with elevated privileges. Additionally I also tried putting the shell script in etc/profile.d directory; however, all this did was make Lubuntu take longer to get to the desktop. I have made the file .sh, executable, and owned by root. Essentially, I want the terminal window for the script to pop up after I arrive at the desktop to prompt me with options. The script waits 60 seconds for user input before automatically executing another script. The reason it has to have root privilege is because the second script getting automatically executed needs to have root privilege as well. That script contains a watchdog which needs root privilege to trigger a hard reboot in the event of a hardware failure while I'm away from the computer. Hope someone can guide me in the right direction because I'm currently out of my depth. Thanks!

Hello All! My saga to get a portable Lubuntu usb installation continues. I recently successfully installed Lubuntu on my 128 GB Samsung USB 3.1 drive. The usb was able to boot into Lubuntu and perform the functions of the OS on the following system: DG45ID Motherboard Intel Celeron 450 Processor 8 GB of DDR2 800 MHz AMD RX 470 4 GB (Indeed a strange set up lol, though it's being used for testing) This proved to me that the installation was successful and worked as intended since the USB was the only media attached to the motherboard. Now we arrive at the issue. This whole project is centered around getting a USB which I can plug into any computer and boot into Lubuntu, whilst being able to access programs and data installed natively on the OS. I'm sometimes on the go, so having a USB that I could carry with me to learn Lubuntu wherever I am makes things really nice. I wanted to try and have the USB boot into the Lubuntu installation on my MacBook Air 2013; however, holding down the option key to access the boot menu only yielded the two native installations present on the built in SSD (Mac and Windows 10). I'm still learning a lot about how computers work, so thought I'd turn to people with much more experience than me. It's strange that the Mac doesn't see the USB as it is able to detect and boot into Easy2Boot (basically a mini OS which allows you to store many different iso files on one USB) when that's plugged in. Not sure what's going on, though maybe it has something to do with EFI / UEFI business. Again I have no idea how Lubuntu or the Mac actually boots, simply a guess since the Easy2Boot registers as an EFI boot disk. Hopefully that's enough information and we can start working on troubleshooting. I'm open to third party applications for a quick fix; however, would also love to understand what's going wrong. Also, feel free to redirect me to the correct forum topic if there is another place for this. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi all, I've recently been introduced to the world of Linux and I've been loving it because of the lack of bloatware and stock apps there is on Ubuntu 19.04 that I've been using for a week and a bit so far. I now dual-boot Ubuntu 19.04 and Windows 10 through sudo update-grub so I'm able to choose which OS I want to boot into when I turn on my PC. I've had a strange occurence whereby my Ubuntu OS locks up pretty frequently when I try to run high frequencies, specifically anything above 4.7GHz on my i5-8600K. For context, I am able to use Windows 10 completely fine and never lock up in a million years even if my 8600K is up to 4.9GHz and beyond at 1.20V, compared to my Ubuntu boot which I mentioned before would often lock up even on lows of 4.7. Is there any Linux gurus out there that are able to explain what's happening with my PC and/or Linux itself? Some key notes: I can run Windows 10 stable at 4.9GHz 1.20V I can run Ubuntu 19.04 at a max of 4.6GHz 1.25V I've been advised Asus components don't play well with Linux - I have an Asus Prime Z370-P Mk.1 motherboard I have a GTX 1060 with the 418 drivers These lock-ups occurred on Ubuntu 19.04, Manjaro, and Lubuntu as well (I forgot which versions) Specs i5-8600K clocked at 4.5GHz 1.25V for Ubuntu clocked at 4.9GHz 1.20V for Windows 10 Asus Prime Z370-P Motherboard 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2800 - down from 3000MHz for Windows 10 Asus Dual GeForce GTX 1060 OC 3GB - 418 driver Crucial BX500 containing Ubuntu 19.04 OS Crucial P1 containing Windows 10 Pro OS

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to Ubuntu. I have a HP G14 laptop that has Lubuntu installed on it. The computer has been doing great, new RAM and SSD was installed. First weeks I had a problem with the screen being too dim, so I turned to forums to see what could be the problem, that problem was resolved by apparently changing some lines of code in: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. While doing that I had to use sudo to be able to change that file (I think I updated another file someplace else but can't remember). Now, since I did that I haven't been able to install or remove a program, I get the following message every time (the following quote I took from running sudo apt-get install -f, which was prompted by the Software Updater since It was not able to upgrade Lubuntu): It has something to do with the DPKG, but what even is that? Thanks in advance guys!

Hi, I want to turn my old iMac (early or late 2009, can't remember and I'm not at home, sorry) into a Linux office machine. I'll totally erase Mac Os and will probably end up using Lubuntu as it's running on my old Sony Vaio laptop and I'm kinda used to it by now. I checked the internet and found several how-to's. Main problem : as usual, most tutorials differ and I'm quite lost. eg: some tutorials such as this one https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/how-install-linux-on-mac-3637265/ talk about this step " Edit the line that begins with Linux and place the word "nomodeset" after "quiet splash". The whole line should read: "linux /casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper quiet splash nomodeset -- " While other tutorials make zero reference to any line to edit. Could anyone confirm if the Macworld tutorial is to be trusted? Thanks

I don't have ethernet running to my room so I got the edimax ew-7611UCB for both bluetoth and wifi. I am running on my 2nd machine (an old dell dimension 2400 from 2004) which cant run anything windows vista or lubuntu. I have serched other forums for ways to make it work and install the drivers properly but none of the stuff they say either works or is siple enough for me (I hardly know any code at all) if anyone knows how to get wifi with this thing and if possible bluetoth.

Hi, I installed Lubuntu 18.04 on a HP Thinclient T5740. Lubuntu is installed on an USB stick. I tested it by using a VGA monitor plugged in and it worked fine. But when I plugged in the second monitor with DisplayPort, Lubuntu didn’t recognize the monitor. When I reboot the Thinclient the boot menu shows on the monitor with the DisplayPort. But when Lubuntu starts the monitor turns off and Lubuntu only uses the monitor with VGA. I have tried to install Xorg and manual enable the DisplayPort but that didn’t work. Do anyone know how I can enable the DisplayPort in Lubuntu?

I seem to be stuck as grub is not seeing anything, I’ve used a live lubuntu usb stick to check disk for errors and it came out fine. This is all happened after I deleted my lubuntu partition because I’m an idiot and decided that it would be easier that way. I am not Ubuntu savvy so any help is welcome!

Hi! So recentely I was going through some old boxes and found my old laptop. To my surprise, it was still working but the OS was broken to the point I couldn't even connect to the internet. I installed Windows 10 just to see what happens, it was too much for it, as it has 1GB of RAM and has an intel T2130 CPU, 2 cores @ 1.86 GHz. I decided to go for Linux, as I've heard there are distros designed to be lightweight to run smoothly on old PC's. I chose Lubuntu, downloaded it and installed. The problem is, I have never used Linux. I thought installing my standard software would be easy, but installing additional libraries to Code::Blocks... Oh man. On my main rig with Windows, installing SMFL library was simple, I had to download it and link it in Code::Blocks. But I struggle with it on Linux. It would be easier if I had a 64-bit version, because there is an already working SFML pack for that, but because of my CPU I can only use 32 bit OS, and the only way to get SMFL for 32 bit Linux is to build it yourself with Cmake, which I tried to do but my code still won't compile after linking my project to freshly built SFML. I would really appreciate some help with that, it's my first adventure with Linux and I'm not entirely sure what to do.

Hi, I am currently planning on visualizing a remotely accessible NAS on my server that is running Lubuntu so I can backup my families computers onto it. I have previously ran FreeNAS on a PC but this time I want to run it alongside Lubuntu. Can anyone point me in the right direction to this or if it is even possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A while was given an ancient Compaq SR1000 and tried to get Windows 7 on it. I don't know why I thought it would run smoothly, but I did. In my naivety, I tried to manually revert back to Windows XP and failed miserably ending up with no functional OS. Some time has passed, and I'm trying to resurrect it for fun by installing Lubuntu. Every time I get to the boot screen I am flashed with the message PXE-E53: No boot filename received PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. I don't know what this means and was hoping the forum could help me out. I am hooked up to a Linksys WRT110 by Ethernet with a separate FiOS router in the house and suspect this may be the problem. Thanks for any help/advice.

So I installed Lubuntu(15.10 32bit) on an old laptop(DELL Inspiron Mini 1012), worked fine, no Wi-Fi. I installed the Wi-Fi drivers(according to this guide), worked fine. When I rebooted the laptop to finish the installation, it showed this: I clicked on Ubuntu, it showed this and got stuck on it: I tried reinstalling Lubuntu, still the same problem, even when erasing the disk.

Lubuntu, in case you didn't know, is a version of Linux, or specifically Ubuntu, that has very low system requirements. Does that mean that if I were to game on Linux, the performance would increase in double-digit numbers?

I installed lubuntu on an old laptop and it won't boot 90% of the time and i need to keep shutting down and trying again. When i do boot in recovery mode it usually get stuck on the same line and doesnt work.

Trying to install Lubuntu 14.10 on a Asus M5200N. Has an Intel® Pentium® M Processor 1.60 Ghz and 248MB of RAM. Using the alternate installer as the laptop doesn't have enough ram. (lubuntu-14.10-alternate-i386.iso) Installing through CD. Burnt it on a cd and booted lubuntu installer of that. During installation of the base system this error popped up: "No installable kernel was found in the ATP sources" Any ideas? Thanks!

hey, I have this old system that i just don't know what to do with it anymore. It has a Intel Pentium D 2.8. 1GB Ram 250GB WD 5200rpm hard drive... I had a few more hard drives in there and was running freenas. but i got tired of that. so I install pfsence and was running that for a few weeks. I'm over that also. lol. Last night i install Lubuntu 14.04. I was going to install xp and give it to kid for like homework and social/email stuff. but like xp support ended it. I didn't want to bother with all the pop up it will be getting telling me to upgrade to windows 8.1... Lubuntu 14.04 has been working great. It boots up very quick. Audio, usb, network all works! The problem I'm having is that when on youtube the videos just slow down the computer!!! CPU goes up to like 80% and RAM up to 500-600MB... Do you guys think installing a HD 5450 1GB will help it's performance??? a few weeks ago i got a HD 5450 for like $20 on newegg. so they are cheap! Ohh, on the BIOS I try giving the on board video more RAM 256MB. still same problem... =/

let's give a rank number to all this OS (from 1 to 10) if you test any of them (ordered by the power) Debian 7 - 5/10 (is awesome, but is a pure Linux also) Lubuntu 14.04 - 6/10 (perfect for replace the old xp and is new) XP (Windows 5) - 4/10 Xubuntu 14.04 - 7/10 Vista (Windows 6) - 5/10 Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 - 8/10 Windows 7 - 10/10 Ubuntu 14.04 - 9/10 Windows 8 - (i don't have tested it yet) do i miss one on the list ? feel free to add it in case you wonder (at this time) i am using "Ubuntu Gnome" (and i love it) and i don't plan replace it B)
