Hello Guys, I'm looking for some ideas for a high-efficiency pc build for 24/7 use. It should be able to run TeamSpeak server, one or two game servers (Ark, Minecraft, Terraria, etc...), maybe some FTP or small NAS like data share, and possbliy a small website. So I would need at least 8 GB of RAM I guess The power target for the whole system should be arround 15 watts if possible ( idealy less when idleing and not more than 30 under full load) I have an old 500 GB M.2 SSD lying around but other than that I have no spare hardware. I have thought of the recent Raspberry Pi 4, but I do not know I it would be powerful enough (and RAM could be a bit to small). For total cost (without SSD) I would be happy if it would not exceed 200 Euros/Dollar. So if you have any suggestions for, I would be more that thankful. I have build several gaming Pc, but I have little experience with low-power builds or even sever builds

Hello! I am a programming student in need of an inexpensive laptop for my studies. Any suggestions would be great!

Hello, i have an old intel stock cooler (like really old from lga 1150) for an E3 1231-v3 XEON the thing is that it works great but it has some damage on the things that keep it on the motherboard, so i want to replace it, I have the option in my city to buy a deepcool gamma archer that has a very low cost and i wanna know if this is AT LEAST the same as good or better as the intel one. "The next one in my town is like 3 times the price of the deepcool cooler"( and i dont wanna pay for shipping)

I just spent a year using the ASUS X205TA laptop as a daily driver, and I was really surprised by how much I ended up loving it. To start off my evaluation of it as a laptop I want to share my use case. I'm a college student pursuing a BS in Computer Science and my old laptop was just too heavy and the battery life wasn't long enough anymore (new I got 4-6 hours, and I was only seeing 90 min at best). Here's what I needed in order to buy a new laptop: minimum 4 hour battery life (enough to get through 2 lectures without charging) light weight (less than 3 lbs) durable enough to go in a backpack with textbooks under $500 I couldn't find anything nice in the price range I was looking at and out of curiosity, I went on Amazon and sorted the laptops from lowest to highest price. I found this laptop: Atom 1.33 GHz processor 2 GB DDR3 RAM 32 GB internal SSD 11.6 in 1366 x 768 LED display Windows 10 Advertised 12 hr battery life I know an Atom processor doesn't seem that powerful, but I ended up buying it. I figured worst case I could use it for office and web browsing, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could throw at it without running into any major problems. I've done everything from the lightest web browsing and document editing to running 3D modeling software and Android Studio and this little laptop just kept going. The build times for my larger android projects did end up taking some time to build and install the app on my phone, but even under heavy load, the laptop stayed at a very low temperature. After a while I got tired of how long the builds would take and I ended up using the laptop to remote into my desktop at home. This effectively gave me a laptop with a 12 hr battery life, a 6 core i7 and 32 GB DDR4 RAM. While my use case ended up being a little more than it could handle, I would definitely recommend this laptop, for the average college student (or non techie family member). If all a person needs to do is run an office suite and web browsing, you really don't need much more than what this laptop has to offer, and ASUS released a new version of this laptop, the E200HA (4GB RAM and a newer processor).

This is mostly "pie in the sky" territory right now, since this plan won't materialize until after we move into a new apartment where my usual PC won't be within reach of the living room TV anymore. But I enjoy planning PC builds as much as I enjoy actually building them, so why not. The TV is just a dumb display. The only things that will be connected to it will be the game consoles and something that will let us watch YouTube and videos stored on our NAS. Currently, my PC is doing that second task. Now, we could just go with something like an Intel Compute Stick https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Compute-Computer-processor-BOXSTK1AW32SCR/dp/B01ASB0DJ8/ But where's the fun in that? So here's the requirements: - Cheap as possible - A small as possible - No need for on-board mass storage since the NAS handles all that, enough for the OS and that's it - Ethernet LAN preferred over WiFi - Low power consumption at idle, this still will rarely shut down - Steam In-Home Streaming a plus, but not mandatory - Good YouTube playback (1080p60) - Media player support for something like VLC or Media Player Classic Home Cinema - Discrete GPU not required now but being able to upgrade into one later would be cool So what parts might you all recommend?

Hello all, Haven't visited the forum in a while, so I'll go straight to the point. I own an old but trusty Dell Optiplex 9020 mini tower, with the specs: I5 4570 8GB DDR3 RAM 300W OEM Power supply (with 8 pin connector to Motherboard instead of usual 24 pin) Nvidia GTX 750ti 240 GB SSD + 600 GB HDD 2 x 24'' Dell monitors (60Hz) - These will not change as my peripherals are all supplied by my employer. I usually play World of Warcraft as main game, but also a lot of Rocket League, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, F1 2016. I had noticed my rig could not handle witcher 3 very well but on medium to low settings it was playable. However, recently after buying F1 2018, I noticed I could not play smoothly at all at 1080p. I had to lower to 900p to have a decent frame rate. I believe I will continue gaming forever but always 1-2 hours per day maximum, so I am not planning for a top spec machine. I also have family investments coming so need to spend as little as possible, but also keep in mind it should last me a decent amount of time. So, the question now is Buy a new tower, for around 640 USD Case - Corsair Carbide 200R - 63 USD Power Supply - EVGA 600 BR 600W Bronze CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 1500X w/ cooler MoBo - ASUS B450 RAM - 8GB DDR4 Graphics card - Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Note: I already own the SSD + HDD I will need. Upgrade my existing rig with the following parts for a total of 375 USD: COOLER MASTER MWE 550W 80+ BRONZE (65 USD) Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB (300 USD) 24 pin to 8 pin adapter for the Power supply Motherboard connector. (10 USD) Upgrade my existing rig with minimal specs for 255 USD: COOLER MASTER MWE 550W 80+ BRONZE (65 USD) Nvidia GTX 1050 ti (180 USD) (requires only 75W from the PCI board) 24 pin to 8 pin adapter for the Power supply Motherboard connector. (10 USD) If any of the above lasts me at least 2 years I am absolutely fine. If less then I might be more inclined for a new build. Thoughts? Regards

So, I was searching for Good Bang for the buck (Budget) CPU. And I know for a fact that Ryzen 5 1500X, 2500X and 1600 are the Bang for the buck CPUs out there. I searched those in Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress and Some of my local Pc Parts shops. In alibaba every thing was weird. We all know that, 1st gen Ryzen was released in 2017 2nd gen was released on 2018 But in Aliexpress 1st gen was released in 2016 2nd was in 2017 Also the IHS and CPU-Z results was same as an original AMD R5 Cpu. LINKS :- Here for R5 1500x (Ali) , Here for R5 1500x (Amazon) If u are a expert in this Please Help me I want to build my new PC but this CPU is sketchy. ALSO, I KNOW THEY ARE USED SO, THE PROBLEM IS THE YEAR AND PROFORMANCE. NOT AT ALL WITH THE MONEY.

low cost Best router I can buy for less than $50 (eBay included)?
dabockster posted a topic in Networking
Hey all, I found out that my Netgear R6400 has no way for the user to control the firewall. This is a huge issue for me as I want to use the firewall to control website access on a per-computer basis to improve my focus. I also want to allow distraction access for my roommates (eg I'm working while the guy in the next room is on Facebook). The R6400's interface only allows me to set this sort of filtering if I manually whitelist the network IP addresses of my roommates. However, if one of the IPs changes for any reason (eg mobile phone leaves the house and comes back), then other devices get blocked and the filter is useless. I have tried DD-WRT, both the default build and kongac's custom build. Both cause the router to lock up and kernel panic after a few hours of use. Restoring this router back to stock was even harder, as Netgear's stock images do not have the correct hex values in a few spots (whether or not this is sabotage by Netgear seems to be up in the air). I had to search for days to find one guy who had a modified image on his personal server in Denmark. Oh, and copying files to my USB hard drive causes the thing to crash on both stock firmware and both DD-WRT builds, even though it's an officially advertised feature. Anyways, ranting aside, I want to get a new router. What are some recommendations for routers under $50 that have firewall access? USB 3 and Wireless AC are preferred but aren't a deal breaker. I am willing to take a look at second hand sites like eBay and Craigslist. (...Seriously, who ships a router in 2019 that doesn't have firewall config? My garbage Belkin router that I had ten years ago had better config options than this.) -
Im going to build a low cost gaming server and was wondering what cpu(s), motherboard, and also how much storage and memory it needs i have a buget of 600 to 1200 dollars (would like to be under 1000 $) Thanks (Im kinda new to this)

I've worked at a few places over the last few years and have encountered Lenovo, HP, Dell, Kensington, Logitech and Microsoft keyboards and mice - wired and Bluetooth, but the place I've worked at for the last 8 months uses Belkin Ergo mice, (alongside crappy Logitech M525 mice for the users who want a wireless mouse) - I had never seen these before I started this job and they are not widely available in Canada. We buy them from CDW for roughly $10. https://www.cdw.ca/product/belkin-wired-ergonomic-mouse-mouse-usb-b2b/3025148?enkwrd=Belkin+Ergo After 8 months of daily use (and watching others use and abuse them), it still blows my mind how sturdy and comfortable they are for the price. I've had plenty dead/broken Logitech mice show up on my desk, but I can't recall any of these mice randomly dying or breaking in any way. I'm hoping I'm not the only one here who knows about it because it absolutely nukes any other budget mouse under $25 that I've encountered.

Hi friends, I watch Linus occasionally (im not the most tech savvy kid, so i dont know a lot about computer parts) and recently watch the 69 dollar pc build. I know this question is most likely brought up a lot but I am a high school student In need of help with a pc build because my laptop has seen better days. I liked the idea of the 69 dollar one and was looking for a easy build similar to this from 50-100$ running the same things as they did in the video. Im asking you guys because my tetchy friend is too busy to help me. back to the build though,I play over-watch a lot but got out of it because my laptop couldn't run it well I would like it to run descent and be playable. also it has to run my school work which if it can run over watch, think it can run a math program. I have a monitor with the good old VGA cable but i have a HDMI adapter for it so that should be fine for the moment, you guys can help me that would be great?. Thanks

Hi there all LTT folks. This is my first ever post so I will introduce myself a little. I'm Robbin, 27 years old from Amsterdam. I'm a single geek living on my own on a floor I build in a warehouse that doubles as a man-cave (with beer-tap and pool-table) Currently I'm doing multiple projects at the same time such as: -Having awaken a Skulltrail motherboard from the dead (dead CPU2 socket , pin was broken off) which serves as my main PC (https://valid.x86.fr/mt0ayb) -Setting up two HP XW8400 workstations as networked fileservers -Building my own speaker system from scratch, as well as the amplifiers and modifying behringer DCX2496 crossovers -Just finished upgrading my network tot Gigabit to be able to handle the 500Mbit internet connection -Modifiying my car (Peugeot 106 GTi) for more performance (upgrading undercarriege, engine components etc) as well as my motorcycle (Gilera Runner VXR) -Starting a MAME-like PC build from scratch with an old 720p 50" pioneer plasma screen I traded in. I've set up my speaker amplifiers in such a way that they have rack-mount cases. In the home-theater I want to have a rack-mount case to house all the amplifiers and crossovers. For the fileserver PC's I also want to have them rack-mounted because I'd like to have a little server-room of my own. They currently are HPXW8400 workstations, and I'd like to build them into server-style cases. I saw the video "Watercooled, Overclocked SERVER Build!" and now I'd like to find out what are the types of routers or old servers that go for so little money that they are cheaper than actually buing a new server case. So if you know the right models to look for, I'd be glad to hear. Thanks a lot for making my own server-rack possible! Greetings from Amsterdam!

So I am trying to upgrade an old computer for a church, they use the computer only for streaming to the web. They don't stream in HD (maybe one day up to 720) currently 640p. I don't think they need a "great" pc to do this. I found a rebuilt Lenovo M58 Desktop for $80 Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 GHz- E8400 Memory: 4GB DDR3/ 16GB MAX RAM compatible 160GB Hard Disk drive They already have a decent TV tuner that they use to bring the video feed to the computer. I was thinking if I got this I would only need to bump up their ram and maybe their CPU. I don't think they need off-board GPU as all the video is being converted by the tv tuner, and the CPU would be sending it to the web (I may be way wrong on this) Any suggestions on this? Would it just be better to build new? I am hoping to do this for under $300 all said and done. Again all this PC does is live stream online, I know more cores and threads would be better but being that it is only 640 and maybe 720 one day, would this be a good idea? Thank you for your input!!

Hey all, So i want to build a low cost, but **decent** video rendering rig so I don't have to use my gaming rig with all its processes slowing it down. What would be a good layout of parts? I was thinking of going for AMD because they're cheaper and run well. For the GPU, if I did a crossfire configuration of various GTX 600 (or below 600 if it'll perform ok) series could that work for rendering? I have a 128GB SSD and a 400Gb HDD. I was thinking about getting 12 to 16GB or ram if I can get it for a good price. Power supply will be the last thing I plan, for I don't know how big of one I'll need yet. Any advice is useful. Thanks!

My dad want me to upgrade his old computer. It has some sort of nvidia gpu (no name on it) and he wants a new faster one. It needs to be cheap and no other power needed only the power taken from the motherboard. I was looking at a Geforce 8800 GTS but I don't know if it needs any power directly from the PSU. If anyone has any suggestions I would like to know.

Willa 6 Gb/s SSD combo work with a 3Gb/s motherboard? Do I have enough fans for a AMD processor? If not what fans should I get? Is there any place I can get lower price RAM still 16 GB? Are there better and lower priced processors than the AMD FX 9320? Please be critical
