  2. An Awesome Build For An Awesome Guy: "Can I get a Gaming PC for £500?"... "Yes", "Good, build me one for £1000 then"... "yes". Was pretty much how this went. I was given no more guidance other than "Don't care about looks, just make it work.". Obviously by looking at this images you can see that I did some colour matching, not that it was hard to find red and black AMD gear. What Would I Change?: Working to a budget is always a challenge, there's always that part that cost a little more but you want it. In this case, it was an MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard. Would have looked so good in this rig but the £90 price tag plus US shipping (total of £110 there or there about) would have been stretching the budget just a little to far. My compromise was a GA-970a which is all black, and has similar features to the 970. I won't list tech specs on here. Other that that one part, I'm happy with the way it is shaping up. Perhaps I will change my mind on this once I actually start building the thing. Internal Hardware: CPU: FX 8320e GPU: MSI 290X RAM: Kingston 2x8GB 2400MHz PSU: CX 750M Case: NZXT S340 SSD: R7 120GB HDD: WD 2TB Black LED: No name duel 30cm red strips. Product Shots: Whats Next: Building Commences at 7:30 tomorrow morning and will likely not stop until late on Sunday night. Regular small updates will come almost hourly tomorrow but the final results will be posted in one large entry Sunday evening. Not a lot of new stuff coming out on the drawer and red mod blogs because of this. So stay tuned for some awesome looking system shots and hopefully very aggressive overclocking. Thank You :)

    Introduction

This computer was built about a year ago, and has since then been a work in progress. (at time of starting this blog) The specs are: Fractal Design Define R4 i7 4770k @ stock 3.5 ghz with stock cooler ASUS Sabertooth Z87 Radeon R9 270X 2GB 8 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM Apevia 750 Watt Power Supply MAXTHOR 500GB HDD (I don't know the model number of it, but it is pretty old and soon to go) OCZ Agility 4 64GB SSD TP-Link PCI-E Wifi Card (soon to change) Fans: 3 X 140mm Apevia Blue LED Fans 1 X 140mm Fractal Design White Fan 2 X 140mm Apevia Red LED Fan Peripherals: Razer Black Widow (2011) Razer Naga Epic Logitech G230 2 X AOC E2460SWD 24" Monitors 2.1 Logitech Speakers This blog is basically going to be on the finishing touches/upgrades to the computer along with a complete color change. This computer has been a work in progress for nearly 3 years, and probably will forever be one. But before I am almost completely happy with it, there are a couple things I plan on adding in the near future. First, I want to change the overall look of the computer, beginning with the fans. Currently there are 3 extremely bight blue fans in there, and they look cool and all, but in my opinion they really don't match any of the components. Instead of blue, brown, gold, white, and basically every other color in the rainbow, I am going to go for a white and black looking color scheme.
  4. Hey! I want to build a budget oriented content production PC and a little bit of gaming (Overwatch, CSGO , League, and a LITTLE bit of GTA 5) my budget is $550 and its not alot but anything with a decent upgrade path would be nice. and can you use http://pcpartpicker.com (and try to include kinguin.net windows fee)
  5. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HcVrPs is there anything here that I can upgrade? money isn't an issue.
  6. So, here's gonna be my very first build log! Are you excited? I know i am! This is by no means my very first build. I've build around 5 PC's before, some really nice ones too imo, but never really got to making a real proper build log. Time to change that, no? So, let's get to it then. The name of the beast: Black Mac. "Why?" You ask? Well, because this PC is gonna be build in a modded Mac case. Specifically this one: Now that right there is a beauty, isn't it? This beast will be a video editing workstation for my older bro, who is in need of a new one. I originally planned for this to be a F@H PC, but as my post in the thread below describes, those plans are off for now. Now for the meat and potatoes, the actually important stuff. The (updated) specs! Case- Powermac G5 (m-ATX modded) (purchased) CPU- Intel Xeon E5 2603 V4 (purchased) MOBO- Asus X99-M WS/SE (Purchased) GPU- Nvidea GTX Titan X (Maxwell) 2-Way SLI (Purchased) PSU- EVGA Supernova 850W (Purchased) SSD- WD Blue M.2 1TB RAM- 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (purchased) Cooling- Custom Cooling loop! (hardline?) Right now i'm going to keep the stock cooling in because of time constraints. So, expect updates as the parts start rolling in. I, for one, am really looking foreward to this building adventure. Adios!
  7. Hey! Thanks for looking at my thread, as you can read by the title, this Machine is going to be used for a few different things. Mainly VR with the HTC Vive along with general gaming at 1440/4K. However this is my first build geared towards a certain field (Or in this case, more than one field) So a little feedback would be nice! Here's a link to the build in PC Part Picker. Things like keyboards and mice aren't included as they're getting bought from the manufacturer. Any feedback is welcome!
  8. I have built a computer that can run crysis 3 high settings at 60 fps, battlefront medium settings at 60fps, Battlefield games from medium to ultra settings at 60fps, and gta 5 high settings at 60-120 fps https://pcpartpicker.com/user/billysmith828/saved/cMHFTW
  9. The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {8D8F4F83-3594-4F07-8369-FC3C3CAE4919} and APPID {F72671A9-012C-4725-9D2F-2A4D32D65169} to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). 10. Hello everyone I'm looking for an app running on Win10 (or a Win10 feature) that would allow me to log the usage of my CPU (preferably per-Core) and GPU over a LONG period of time (several days to several weeks). Basically, I'd like something that is running in the background, that survives standby/hibernation and that is automatically relaunched after reboot. Something that could log the values that are reported in real time by Task Manager or Resource Monitor, for instance. Preferably an app that would then allow me to have a comprehensible vision of when my CPU/GPU usage was high and for how long. The idea behind this is to be able to "quantify" how heavily the resources of a machine are used in general and evaluate if an hardware upgrade is desirable or not. For instance if CPU usage is above 60-90% for extended periods of the time when a machine is used, I would consider a CPU upgrade, if it's only occasional (a few peaks here and there), then probably it's not worth it. I tried to use Performance Monitor (PerfMon) but wasn't satisfied for multiple reasons. I just heard of Windows Performance Recorder, but I'm not sure this is what I need. Thoughts? Oh, and obviously I'd prefer a free tool Thank you very much in advance for your help. Best, -a-
  11. So my PC has been acting funny recently and I have no idea why. I've factory reset and clean installed and the problems (games crashing. "Aww snap" chrome error every once in a while) keep happening. I traced the issue to possibly my system32 being buggy, and I tried the sfc/scannow command but it gave me "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". I'll put the CBS.log in to give the most detail I can to fix the issue, but I'm lost after that. Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance if I personally forget to do so! CBS.log
  12. I am getting this on my event viewer. Anyone knows how to fix this? The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID Windows.SecurityCenter.WscDataProtection and APPID Unavailable to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
  13. Good evening, So firstly, this build is complete, I just have to split the post into Part One and then some extras to fit all the pictures in... Secondly, this is my first build in a while and my first ever watercooling loop and seeing as it's already installed (and working), please go easy on me! An Introduction: This build is a new video editing rig for the artist I work with as the current machine (iMac 2017) is no longer up to the task of 4K editing and has developed many weird and wonderful bugs which make me want to throw it out of the window. So the Mac is going to stay on as a production machine for music (for now) and this is going to be the new video editing rig. The aim is, make it epic and make it pretty so it looks good in the studio. Parts: To make one thing clear from the start, I cheated slightly. I bought a pre overclocked bundle from Overclockers UK to save both time and due to the fact that these are expensive parts and it's not a personal project, i.e. Someone else is paying! Difficult to explain that I broke it by being an idiot and we have to replace parts... But anyway: Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme Intel i9-7940x (running at 4.6Ghz) 32Gb Memory Corsair 1000d Case Corsair HX1200i Power Supply Samsung 970 Pro m.2 500Gb WD Black 3Tb HDD Asus ROG Strix Advanced RTX 2080ti Noctua NF-F12 Industrial for the Rad Noctua NF-A14 Industrial for the case EKWB Watercooling -Extreme 360 Kit CableMod Custom Purple and White throughout Part Two to follow with build pictures etc... Thanks for reading, Joe P.S. Any questions, leave them below and I'll answer...
  14. How can I bypass the website log in? For my example it's a kind of log in when you use a "code" to log in. But I don't think that matters, thing is it's open but you need to log in on their gateway/guest/8800 (I'm guessing the 8800 is the port) and you have to log on there. I tried using a VPN but it doesn't want to connect. Weird. HELP
  15. Hi! I'm thinking about size downgrade, because my PC is quite too big for me now. I have Corsair Air 540 case, and it is way too large for me. Recently I started to get interested in SFF cases and PC's and that's my pick for today: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/rPRYTB And here's my concerns: 1) Graphics Card Size. I know, that case SHOULD support that card, but if I want to use CPU Cooler (240mm radiator on front of the case), it will take off some space. Any idea if it will fit? 2) Thermals. My graphics card is quite hot (around 50c in my case now on idle, which has two 140mm intakes blowing on her, two outtakes on top through radiator from my NZXT Kraken x64 and one outtake on back). It would't have much clearence, and on weekends PC can run for 24h non-stop with game turn on all the time. That will cause issues. Anyone have something similar and can post some thermals or problems that he came across? Thanks!
  16. Hello I want to build a gaming computer i have $1,500 AUD $1182.64 USD $1495.74 CAD i want to game well and editing can someone help me plz
  17. Hi, I've been a long time user of OBS studio and Never encountered something this bad. Step by step on how OBS crashes. I load up OBS studio Portable (Facecam) I load up OBS studio (Game/Desktop) I start recording by pressing F9 which starts both. I load up a game (in this example Battlefield 1) then about 30 - 60 seconds in to the game, it will just crash. not the game, but one of the OBS instances that are open. And it will always be random on which one crashes. My computer is more than capable on recording 60fps 1080p on both instances of OBS Studio as I've been using it like I say for a long time now. It's not like I'm running out of RAM as I have 64GB DDR4 I've got an Sapphire RX480 nitro+ OC And have plenty of storage. I always clean install new graphics drivers when they are needed. And yes I use --portable in a shortcut on my desktop to load OBS from a separate hard drive as a new instance. (Facecam) and I leave the default settings for installing OBS apart from turning off plugins, as have no use for them. (Game/Desktop) Any and much help would be appreciated. Edit: To also note. I don't stream. I only record. I also Posted to the OBS forums but I'm not getting any replies? Hopefully some here can be of more help? https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-crashes-as-soon-as-game-starts-to-load-in.79906/ The Logs are at this link.
  18. All kinds of errors are being registered in my pc, and I would like to get rid of those problems. Does anyone know how to get rid of all these error messages, warnings and other funny stuff? These are the errors and warnings registered in my windows log: https://gyazo.com/f5db11a6534c54d778de859a708453cc
  19. is this a good build? if you make any changes keep in mind the build is a white and blue theme and is for gaming.and the gpu will be a gtx 1070, with a win 303 case.thank you http://pcpartpicker.com/list/N3zqqk
  20. So I'm looking at building a "gaming pc" for my brother. I am try to get him something that will handle newer games like The Division, Witcher 3, GTAV, etc. So the thing is he's on a really tight budget(must be under $200) and I'm going to help him out by using as many spare parts as I can. My question is whether or not the 860k will be able to drive modern games okayish or not. I mostly play older games and have little knowledge of the newer ones. I have ddr3 ram, a 120gb ssd, an ok psu, a dvd drive(yes he needs one) and an r9 270, That I was hoping to use in this. If we go with an i3 it will close to double the cost of the cpu and we'd need to get newer ram. I am looking into used options but I haven't found any that are super good. I'm hoping someone with more experience in these things can help me out with some guidance. Thank you for reading. So here we go. We need an okay case, a mobo/cpu and ram if what I have won't work. (I'm in the us btw) Here is what I was thinking of.(he insists on "glowy" fans so I found some cheap pmw ones to add in) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/QB2Mnn
  21. Hello there, i would like to have the assistance of someone, who is experienced at least, in the aiding of a project of mine for school, which is about making an automatic backup system that also creates registries of the backups themselve. Here is the relevant mode of backup: Must backup gigabyte sized files (from user directories only) and to a folder called (BackupUser_Giga) and create a log file of the ocurred named as (BackupGU_Log). This backup must occur from 8 to 8 days, every friday, at 7 pm (19) and 30 minutes. After 3 months of the backed up files being in the directory (BackupUser_Giga), all theyr content are deleted. Now what i stated above, is one of the 6 different backups i must do for the "User files and directories", "System files and directories" and "Essential files and directories", where for both "System and Essential files and directories", after the backup or deletion, an email/message to the administrator must be sent. If someone can show me how one of these shell scripted procedures is done, i can then later alter them to each required form :p. Any help is greatly valued. Note: I have found some coded files online, but theyr hard to comprehend. If someone has the patience of knows one of those properly explained, do post a link below, which is just as helpful!
  22. Edit: The whole motherboard died in the process. Don't ask how it happend. It's dead and so is the project ._.'' I recently bought a new ultrabook. That means I don't have any need for my older notebook anymore. It is a Lenovo G500. But simply selling it would be pretty boring, so instead I'm going to build a HTPC out of it. This is going to be the build log for it. Enjoy Specs Intel Core i3-3110M 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L Corsair ValueSelect RAM 120GB SanDisk SSDPlus SSD 2x USB 3.0 1x USB 2.0 HDMI out SD card reader 3.5mm headphone jack Realtek Gigabit LAN Process The first challenge I had to encounter was to take apart this old machine. It felt like removing at least 100 screws and I had to literally rip out the keyboard to get to the last screw. But at the end I was left with a tiny motherboard and some aditional cables for power, on/off, reset and USB. The next step will be to design and build a case. I will use plywood panels for that. 07.June - Update: Got my hands on some plywood (HDF actually...). If you've ever wondered how it looks like, because it is obviously really hard to get, then here is a picture. This is what I'll mainly use for constructing the case: 19.June - Update: I'm sorry that it took so long, but I had to wait for the motherboard standoffs to come in and I didn't really have a lot of time recently to work on it. So today I was able to drill the holes for the standoffs and mount the motherboard to the base plate. I had to enlarge some of the motherboard mounting holes, because I'm using standoffs that are meant for ATX boards, which use a M3 sized screwheads. Next step will be to get the side plates done for the case, including the I/O shield and some of the aditional ports.
  23. Recently my computer started to crash maybe once a day but it wasn't that annoying and I had been busy anyway so did nothing about it. However in the past few days the number of crashes has dramatically increased to the point where its not even worth using it because it crashes at least once an hour, sometimes twice within 10 minutes. My processor was overclocked but not excessively (4690k to 4.6ghz at 1.24v if i remember correctly) so I removed my overclock completely to see if it was that, it wasn't. Although it could well be that the cpu has degraded due to the voltage although not exessive. I do have a somewhat questionable brand psu I have been using for a while, but has served me well for some time and is 80+ bronze so I haven't changed it. I for some reason don't think it's the psu but I could be wrong. I have skimmed over the logs and didn't see anything conclusive but I may have missed something. Any ideas as to what this could be? Side note: It hasn't crashed while writing this.

  25. Whats up everyone? So the i5 4690k and Z87 motherboard was great and all but I wanted to downsize my rig as well as find a way to buy a i7 for my content creation including streaming to Twitch and YouTube. So I scraped part of the build here http://pcpartpicker.com/b/6qCypg and went along another month long search for parts. Parts I bought i7 3770s CPU, Asus P8H67M-PRO,8GB 1600 mhz,Thermaltake Core V21 case. The Asus GTX 770 GPU was a gift from my older brother and replaced a R9 270 hence the color mismatch. i7 3770s CPU I bought this i7 3770s for the same price as the i5 4690k. Considering I am using the OBS software for both YouTube videos and livestreaming etc; the i7 would benefit me more in the long run even though the i5 haswell would have done the job well for most people. This is the low power variant of the cpu but I have no problems with that. Mobo 1155 motherboards especially in the micro and mini itx variants with the z series chipset has made it super hard to find the board with the right features I needed. Took me over month as the first motherboard I bought was a Gigabyte board but caused me so many problems I returned it back to the seller(more about this soon). Ended up with this Asus board who has USB 3.0 but only at the back hence the front panel adapter. Ram Probably my worst decision after thinking my 2400mhz Gskill ares series ram with blue heat spreaders was the main issue in the gigabyte board. Turns out that Gigabyte board refused to boot my SDD in AHCI mode even before I tried to install windows. But this EVGA ram seems like some else made the ram and EVGA just place their sticker on it to make it look nice but it works fine as I just traded ram with a hardwareswapper instead. Need to upgrade back to 16GB Ram as well possibly in the summer. Case Welp probably the most unnecessary item here considering my Corsair 200R was an absolute beast of a case. But downsizing to a cube case is fine with me. I finally have a window for the first time on a case as well. Cable management is something I will need to work on even in its limited space. Will keep the stock 200mm fan for now and look at temps and see if I need to replace it with my other 2 120mm sp 120 fans. TL DR: Downsized my rig to a cube case, moved from a Haswell i5 to Ivy bridge i7 for content creation, 16GB to 8GB due to what I thought was incompatibly but was just a Gigabyte BIOS problem. LGA 1155 micro atx and mini itx boards are hard to find these days and took me over a month to find the one with options. GPU was a gift from my older brother and replaced a R9 270 P.S I also made a video using PCSX2 and trying various PS2 games at various resolutions over the native PS2 resolution. Also since I will be streaming the i7 with its hyperthreading will help me out as well.
