How do I find the source of my crashes. The past two days, my system has locked up without error or BSOD while using a flash application in chrome (pearson's myit lab). I also reenabled things for start on windows. Could this cause an issue? Is there a way to find the source of my system lock ups?

My cousin had an issue with the his computer locking up while streaming on some sites, also occurred on sites with auto playing video adds. He tried to reinstall windows, and then he asked me to fix it up. He also complained the system was very hot and it did thermal shut down on him a couple times I also set him up with kodi I've narrowed it down to the GPU Saphire Radeon 6870 I can reliably recreate the freeze up, but I can't figure out why it is happening or what could be doing it. The issue I have scene: The computer will freeze up. The image on the screen remains, the system is still powered up, numlock does not respond mouse does not move and so on. Kodi 17.1 there is no picture or audio when the video loads but the counter is moving, Relevant Specs: AMD 965BE Asus M5A88V-EVO corsair vengeance DDR3 2x4gb Saphire Radeon 6870 Corsair TX850 PSU For trouble shooting purposes: The system was full of dust, it was bad. I was surprised he didn't fry the cpu or gpu. FIrst thing I did was blow out the dust I put new thermal paste on the CPU I reinstalled windows updates and most recent drivers for everything on the system, issue still occurring I replaced the power supply issue still occurring reinstalled windows again this with the bare minimum updates to get Kodi 17.1 working and a latest gpu drivers, issue still occurring Tried older drivers still occurs I put R7 370 in the system, ran Kodi 17.1 it worked perfect, ran some furmark, prime 95, for over an hour system is perfectly stable I put the 6870 back in run furmark and prime 95s all around test for 2 hours system is fine no issues. Start up Kodi 17.1 system freezes or there is no picture or audio when the video loads but the counter is moving, When you try to move forward you get a frame with video then the system locks up. Kodi 16.1 works perfect no freezing, I let youtube play videos for a hour no freezing. He has it back and will let me know if it continues to happen and what sites it is happening on. What I would like to know is this. Is there something in the gpu or on the pcb that relates specifically to video pay back that may have been damaged by over heating that may be related to how some video codecs or programs interact with the hardware decoding of the video??? That the only thing I can think of. Since it appears to work perfect with version 16.1 of kodi I'm wondering if its a new standard or something.

So I am not sure if my HDD is failing? I try to open steam or something thats installed on my HDD not my SSD, and windows completely locks up and says it is not responding, which forces me to reset the pc manually. After the pc reboots when I go to the file explorer, the HDD has a question mark over it. None of my games are installed, or anything that was installed on my hdd. Any ideas?

To start off, here are my specs; CPU = Ryzen 7 1700x @ 3.5Ghz GPU = Nvidia GTX 1080 TI 11gb 'Duke' RAM = 16GB TeamDark DDR4 2273Mhz MOBO = Asrock AB350 Pro4 (non M) SSD(s) = 1x256gb Adata SATA SSD and one Crucial M.2 NVME at 512gb Monitors = #1 ViewSonic 27' 75hz 1080p #2 LG 42' Smart TV Problem = Has been within the last week, when my displays are off and I get to my pc, sometimes my main monitor will have a distorted look. Like someone dragged a large comb across my screen horizontally causing severely jagged lines. If I turn off that monitor and turn it back on, it freezes the pc. If I try to change the monitors resolution, it freezes the PC. The TV, however, has no distortion and receives display data fine. Hard lock, too. It's happened about three times now. What i've done; 1.) Use DDU to wipe all display drivers and reinstall current ones. 2.) Used Nvidia control panel to clean install new display drivers. 3.) Swore at the PC and assured it that I would kill its firtsborn. 4.) Kept my W10 updates in line. 5.) Cleaned GPU fans and reapplied thermal paste (as temps hit about 85C regularly) If i can get a photo of it the next time it happens, i'll post it.

I am hoping someone out there might have a theory for this: I ran my unraid server since 2016, in that time I never had a single crash (non responsive/ locked up). I installed pfsense on it's own hardware separate from the server 2 weeks ago. initially I set it all up and made a static ip for my server as I had done with the previous router. I tested my plex using 4g on my phone and bam 1st crash... I got it back up and tested again and again it crashed in exactly the same way. I decided to have my server accept a dhcp address and it then worked. I have a plex docker, 2 game dockers and a Win10 vm. the other day I was playing a game connected to one of my game dockers same as I had done for years I had no new containers no new vm just the same and it appeared to crash out of nowhere. I was a bit frustrated at this point but persisted then this morning in prep to move things out of the closet to install a rack and run some cables I shut down my dockers and vm and it suddenly crashed again....I am going to revert to my old router and see if any crashes continue. I run my server off a ups (decent one) so power was never an issue. if any ideas suddenly come to you I would love to hear it. I really want to use pfsense and it was nice not having my router open for my ISP to just look in whenever they want

I get random screen lock ups and also when there is a large build up of static any where in my room it will cause my system to lock up. I currently have this system running on the same outlet as my 4 monitor, tv, and intel server. Nothing else is affected other than my AMD build. When it acts up, I have to do a hard boot to get things to come back online. There is no event viewer errors. I have gone through and cleaned up anything that was showing up in the event viewer. I have replaced the memory from my server-same issue I have switched out video card with my previous gaming card- It too was was a radeon card that served well for years. Same issue New case and new powersupply- same issue I thought that it was the motherboard. I send it into the factory. They said I had a corrupt bios and sent it back> Everything worked well for about 2 days and then it started acting up again. I have replaced all usb periferals and still issue persists. At first I thought it was mainly hard gaming when this was happening as I run 3x1 eyefinity for 5760x1080 and I have added a 4th monitor for monitoring system usage and temps. At this point I am not sure where to head from here. I have an opertunity today to pick up some smart ups backups to help incase it is how I have the system wired up. Do you have any more suggestions? I am working on designs to remove the desk and add everything to mount off the chair but I am holding off till I can get this issue finally wrapped up. Please HELP!!!!

I recently got Dying light and every time I pick something up that's part of a mission, change menus to quick (with 30 seconds of pausing or opening inventory), just move or do to much the game freezes and I hear my HDD spin up to max. Also sound glitches during cut scenes; subtitles will show up but characters wont show an animation of talking and make no noise and occasionally normal environment noises will get stuck in a 1 second loop if a character speaks (not during cut scene). I opened task manager and during this time HDD was at 100% and so was CPU but during normal operation CPU is at about ~86%. For reference my system is 2x4GB 1333mhz DDR3 Dual channel which i have tested and is working i5 750 which i know isn't great but this is the first game i have had trouble with but its also the first new resource intensive game i have played with it (next most is probably MW3) GTX 960 4GB at 900p so that's not it WD Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM which i am currently checking with WD's software DP55WB Mother board

There are times when I am playing a game, (and thats the only time it does this, however, Minecraft works perfectly fine) then my PC will just randomly freeze. I still hear sound and my PC stays on. It seems as if the interface locks up; I can't move my mouse cursor, my keyboard locks up, (I know this because when I try to press NUMLock nothing happens) CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work, and the only thing thats left to do when my PC does that is press and hold the power button to force shut it down. I have been trying to figure this out for months. Somebody please try to help me, I'm getting very frustrated by the things that I've tried and have failed. Things I've tried: Dusting my PC, Changing keyboard and mouse, re-installing windows as an update, moved cables around inside my case, shutting it down as much as I can when I'm not using my system all to no avail. PC Specs: CPU: AMD FX-6100 GPU: GTX 650ti SSC Motherboard: msi 760GM P23(FX) Power Supply: Kingwin 650 watt OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Keyboard: Logitech G710+ (tried swapping with a CM Storm Quickfire TK Cherry MX Red) Mouse Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury (tried swapping with a Razer Abyssus) Please help if you can, the worst thing about the problem is that I don't know what it is!

Hey guys. I'm having some issues after my SSD died and I upgraded to 8.1 on the replacement. I keep getting random lock ups that can only be fixed by rebooting my PC, and it's getting frustrating. Happens midgame, or mid video, or while nothing is happening and my pc is just idling while I'm in a lecture. All drivers have been updated and I keep on top of windows updates too. Specs: FX8350 (happens while overclocked AND at stock) Asus M5A99FX Pro r2 Mobo Samsung 840 Evo 120gb SSD Gigabyte HD7950 Windforce r2 Corsair Vengance 2x4GB RAM Going through event viewer, all I can find from the time of crash is: Event 36888 Schannel - in the error section Event 11 Wininit - in the warnings Event 219 Kernal-PnP - in the warnings Anything else to look for would be awesome as I'm at a loss for what to do now and these reboots are really frustrating this close to the end of the uni semester.
