I recently bought a BC-250 server blade as a project to play around with and I'm a bit at a loss, the software compatibility overall is pretty terrible, most Linux distributions not even booting up their installers properly, I managed to get Ubuntu server 20.04 running and I even managed to get the graphics drivers to install, which hadn't worked on Ubuntu desktop 20.04 or the newest version but even there the initialization failed, I've been wanting to get it running games to help make some mining hardware not ewaste but I've run into a bit of a brick wall and any help would be appreciated. I'm trying out some other Linux distributions while I write this to see if they have any luck Tldr It's a bc250, it uses a cut down Ariel/Oberon chip with a cyan skillfish GPU section. Windows drivers flat out don't exist as far as I can tell and the Linux ones don't seem to work, the furthest I've gotten is various states of failed initialization in Ubuntu server and would appropriate help from anyone who might be knowledgeable with the hardware or Linux in general. So I've been watching Linus' Linux videos and I told myself that I wanted to try and learn something new for this year. I just don't know where to start and how to pick a Linux distro. I'm mainly going to be using it for gaming and streaming. In terms of hardware I have a 7950X3D and a 3080TI. I have a 2i2 audio interface so thsy is something I need to get working. Also I was looking at Zorin OS and the install guide made it seem like I have to wipe Windows from my hard drive. I have a 2TB NVME SSD inside my computer. Can I not just install Linux on there and keep my windows drive?

So I'm a old linux user, back from CentOS 5 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS And I am thinking about giving it a try again seeing that Proton and SteamPlay has come a long way so far. But where I am stuck is in the "Which distro to pick for general use" My general use is this: Everyday stuff- Discord, Spotify Gaming - steam games and Epic Work applications - Outlook and Office (I know how to use thunderbird and libra office so no issue there) webbrowing (firefox is fine for that need until Microsoft releases Edge) and that is pretty much it. I will keep windows on a disc if I ever need it for some reason or just boot a VM up. What distro would you people recommend? NOTE I am using a Nvidia gpu and is fully aware of the weird stuff about the drivers etc which is still the same sh!t like it was years ago

Uh so, I noticed that the number of borked games in the Top 100 of Steam on protonDB dropped from being at 12 to just 11. Did someone notice a game getting available, or could it be that a game slipped from Top 100 down to the Top 1000?

I've suddenly started having strange graphics glitches when playing certain games (CS-GO and KSP). Screenshots attached below. I first noticed the problem when I woke the computer up from sleep-mode after I was gaming on it fine the night before. Note: It's a fairly new system. I built it a couple months ago with new parts from Microcenter, no notable issues until now. My System: GTX-1650 5950x 128GB ram ROG X570 Pro-WIFI (yes I know it's unbalanced, I need the CPU/Ram for my research work and nice GPU's are too expensive rn) Running Ubuntu 20.04 What I've tried to resolve the issue. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers. apt-get remove --purge libnvidia-* apt-get remove --purge nvidia-* I've tried the following driver versions nvidia-driver-470 nvidia-driver-460 nvidia-driver-495 Nouveau open source drivers Nothing seems to resolve the issue with CS-GO. At some point along the way KSP suddenly started working fine again. I've tried CS-Source and Portal 2, both have been working fine. I've not noticed any other problems. My desktop environment is working fine, and the system appears to be otherwise stable. I've deleted and reinstalled CS-GO with each driver version (deleted the shader cache and the game folder under steamapps/common/) , the problem persists. At this point I've run out of things to try. I'm starting to suspect that it could be a physical failure. However, I have no idea how I would diagnose that, the temps seem fine 28C at idle 54C when playing glitched CS-GO. How would I diagnose it if it is a physical problem? Everything except CS-GO is now working fine, could it be an Open-GL library problem? How would I check that? Any advice would be appreciated. Blood is blue ?! In KSP the emblems of the planets are supposed to sit on the orbit paths, but they don't. The more I scrolled around the worse the misalignment got.

Hi guys, long time viewer and first time poster here! apparently I had posted here before and didn't remember! With the advent of Windows 11 not supporting my hardware, and me not interested in building a new machine in a scalper market, I've made the full switch to Pop OS. I do a lot of my work on Linux / Mac OS, so I was already familiar with the platform and some of its quirks and features, so it wasn't really that big of a deal for me to switch. I've tried a handful of different distros, and I dual-booted Win10 + Pop OS for a few months until I realized I no longer booted on windows for anything. The final nail in the coffin was when I wanted to play a multiplayer game that was installed on the windows partition, I had it crash 6 times in a row because Windows was updating in the background after not being turned on for some time (even though I manually disabled EVERYTHING I could, even using the powershell to do so). I have had no issue playing any of my steam games using the Proton compatibility layer, and the most I need to do is change the default version from experimental to 5.13 for some older titles. Now, I was considering getting a used VR headset to tinker with on Linux, and when I started looking around I was surprised with how little information there is available in an easy to consume format. I was able to figure out that the Oculus headsets are not supported, and that the best bet would be a Valve Index or any model of HTC Vive headset, but at this point I am 100% not sure whether it would even work for me or not. Since I no longer own a windows machine, if it turns out to not work on Linux it will be a waste of time and money. I was wondering if the LTT community would be able to help me figure out what my options are, and I thought it would be a very interesting topic for a video if Anthony went over the state of VR gaming on Linux, or the weird workarounds required to make it work.

Hey guys, I bought a new laptop Spec --> CPU --> AMD 4600H GPU --> GTX 1650 Mobile Ram --> 8 GB I was thinking to install Linux on my system and most of the apps that I use are open source, or they are also available on Linux and do some like gaming (like rocket league, Control, watch dogs 2 GTA V) but I know that the support of Linux gaming is getting good, but windows is still better. Should I install Linux alongside windows, will I see any benefit after Linux in productivity or should I install Linux in a virtual machine

Ok, so I'm the process of setting up a new laptop for Pop!os after moving from Win10 and I can't seem to get the game Arma3 to run on Steam. Well I can get it to run but only a super basic vanilla version of it with no mods. Which honestly makes the game kinda suck after playing with mods for years.. I tried the Arma Unix Launcher and all I get when I try to load the game is a black screen. Tried Proton but that doesn't work. I have lutruis and Wine installed but I'm not sure what to do if anything with those. A little help here would me very helpfull as this is kinda a game breaker for me and Linux but I do like the other things Linux has over windows so I don't want to give up too easly. System specs i7-7700HQ GTX1050M 8GB of DDR4 ram Pop!os 20.04 LTS

I just saw this video posted in r/SteamDeck and was hoping to get some LTT eyes on the topic. It appears as though the input latency of the Steam Deck is between 2 to 3 times longer than a PC or other console. Is it possible that the experiment conducted in this video just wasn't done with precise enough hardware? Or maybe the Deck just performs poorly in Rocket League? Would really like to see a video from LTT now covering this since they've done such a great job in the past on the subject of input latency. I don't know what do you all think?

So, I have the steam version of Manjaro Linux, and the game fails to run. Tried Proton Experimental, Proton GE (latest) and the following commands and combinations of them as recommended on proton DB DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/steamdeck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3955941937" gamemoderun %command%' (the proper path on my machine was assured) MANGOHUD=1 DXVK_HUD=compiler RADV_PERFTEST=gpl gamemoderun %command% I tried installing the EA app (which I managed to install, following this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/tx6srv/guide_installing_origin_on_the_steam_deck_the/ ) with it being listed on the Steam library. However the game does not run at all, I click the play button and it says running for a few seconds and then it stops and the EA app is not able to see the game install.

I finally got this downloaded only for the launcher to say i have no internet where it prompts me to make a social club account. playing the game through proton-steam. anyone know how to get past the launcher?

I tried to launch steam with the driver in title, to see if gta would run better with it complains about this error and causes steam to not launch. i can launch steam on 418.56 and under but gta is so slow. how would i fox the error?

my nvidia driver, heaven benchmarking tool, and green with envy linux gpu overclock utility are giving me diffrent results about my P104-100 with gddr5x memory, and all 8gb vram. I know the heaven score can't be accurate cause my gpu can handle both minecraft with raytracing shaders, at 30-21 fps depending on the settings, and its beating my p106-100 by over 30%, in the heaven benchmark which corresponds to 1070 vs 1060 %'s or just about. i want to overclock, but i don't know which clock is which. please explain. the video vs gpu is the most confusing part, but why is everything, but the driver seeing memory speed diffrent? system is one in signature. nvidia driver: 10,000 memory clock, 1905 boost, 1885 usual gpu clock Green with envy graphics: 1704 boost 16xx clock base video: 1905 1885/1887 usual memoey clock: 5,500 Heaven benchmark speed: 1885 mhz memoey clock 5,500mhz score: 2000

will have 2 bios modded/8gb msi p104-100's i plan to sli in early may, but since its got some 1080 specs and some 1070, its hard to tell what bridge i will need. my asrock z390 motherboard came with some type of bridge. how do i tell which to use for the cards? pretty sure 1070 is sli only, but with the card having the memory clock of an 80, and being newer, it is hard to say. im using linux so shouldn't be too bottlenecked. if this sli even works, sli=afr, or sli=on multigpu=on? do not know what the diffrence completely new to the conecpt of sli and on drivers 418 until 430 gets opengl 32 bit code for steam. heard modded minecraft, gtav, and shadow of the tombraider support sli so for gaming whats best sli command? also any tips for enabling physX or anything like that? i play in 1080p, yet minecraft gets only close to 30fps with bsl shaders high settings on my current card, so hopefully this sli will help.

First off, apologies for everything I get wrong, category, name, spelling, you get the picture. My problem was, my ds4 was not working on Linux mint 19, I saw this in Steam and RPCS3. I knew everything should work and that it was software as I had just moved back to mint from Pop! (Sorry I like Cinnamon better) where everything had been working. Anyway after too many hours googling and getting no place, I updated the kernel and now it works. (USB and Bluetooth) So if you too are having trouble with your ds4 (or maybe ds3 as well) update your kernel. update manager -> View -> linux kernels See the warnings do a back up, yada yada Install the latest. update at your own risk (5.0.0-15. at time of writing) I hope this will help someone, sorry if you already new how to fix this...... I didn't. I wrote this because I saw no answer to my problem elsewhere, Just shearing the love Good night. TLDR: This is what got it working for me, Update your kernel, (I used 5.0.0-15.) Update at your own risk

What are your thoughts and opinions about the "new era of gaming"? Linux OS is noticeably popular these days and the fact that Linus tech tips made videos about gaming on a linux gave pretty good impressions about the future of the system. Personally, the configuration of the system and picking a specific "distro" (think, android launcher) plus the typing of specific commands is really scary when you mess up. But after watching Anthony's explanation about using Linux gave me at least a ray of hope on leaning to the system. If you know what command to input, it wouldn't be a hassle. Seeing the development so far is really astonishing. And so after a long debate with myself, I would love to see the operating system grow with popularity and soon, one day, help in the development of it. With companies backing up the system, I doubt that it wouldn't be known by every tech enthusiast and maybe the mainstream public about the interesting system.. Trying to play witcher 3 on a new install of pop os whenever I open the game it just closes after a few seconds. I have the following specs i5 6600k r9 390x Im running it on proton. I tried multible versions. Im very much new to linux, no idea what im doing. Anyone any suggestions?

So.... Seeing how far linux gaming has come in the past year i'w really really considered doing the switch from windows. I'w always used linux for everything else in my house but the lack of gaming support always made me go back to windows. I'w tried dual booting, but i always end up in windows in the end anyway... But here comes the point of the post, and if Anthony is up for it, a video on the subject would be great :-P Anyway... What if the next pc i buy isn't the main pc, what if its a "server" pc that hosts my games. it would get rith of the comparability layer issues and also make all the games available on any machine on the network. but how will it hold up? What would be the minimal needed hardware for the client? Will there be latency issues even on a 1gbit network? What is the pros and cons of streaming compared to a localy installed copy? I guess my gsync monitor looses it's purpose...

I'm posting this in the hopes that it gains traction and enough attention that the Devs take notice (long shot I know but will try anyway), I hate windows platform for many reasons that I won't get into here but because of it I have moved to Linux about 3 months ago and I love it. Before I moved over one of my favourite games was R6 Siege and I have waseted many hours playing it through all of its flaws it is a great game . Linux has improved a lot since I first looked at it 3 years ago with great driver support compared to 3 years ago and lots of new games supporting the platform. I have over 300 games in my steam library and about half support Linux which was not a thing back then. It has become a viable gaming platform alternative to windows atleaest in my case it has. Key thing being that the network drivers on Linux in my case work so much better then the windows drivers making my online gaming experience better then what it was on windows. But getting off topic. I hope that I'm not the only one when saying this that I really would like R6 Siege to support Linux so I don't need to jump through hoops like dual booting and PCI passthrough which I have tried it just would be so much better if native Linux support was a thing my post on Ubisoft forms if your interested in giving your support "https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1909858-Linux-support-for-R6-siege" all this started from a response I received from Ubisoft them selves to a a question I made to them asking about possible Linux support and they basically said to get it out there on there Form and if it gains enough attention the Devs may take notice and possibly look at support, as I said it is a long shot idea but going to try it anyway

I've been using Linux on and off ever since Windows 8 came out, and there are a few things that just never change. Electronic Arts it still terrible, Half Life 3 is still not happening and desktop Linux is still the worst choice of platform for any serious gamer. So I've been watching the Linux challenge as well as the responses to it by the Linux community and it seems that Linus has unknowingly opened a Pandora's box of angry fans ready to assault the censers from all corners. Criticizing Linux is a lot like criticizing Half Life or Valve, no matter how on point you are no one wants to hear it. Trying to avoid the hate from the Linux community is a fruitless endeavor, it's going to happen whether you like it or not. The truth is Linux is good for certain things; but gaming is not one of them. Out of all the platforms that can play games from retro gaming PC's with Windows 95 to retro gaming consoles from 30 years ago, Linux is the worst choice of platform. If you ask the community why this is, most will tell you something along the lines of "it's because not enough people use it," or "it's because Microsoft got in first." These are just excuses, the reality is that the Linux community is extremely self sabotaging and goes out of it's way to prevent progress in it's own platform. One of the fundamental reasons that happens is because they don't like closed source software. There's nothing wrong with open source software but there's nothing wrong with closed source either. But you'll never convince the Linux community of this. Linux desktop operating systems IE distros, such as Ubuntu use a repository to install software. Most of the apps in the repository were ported there by the distro maintainers and members of the Linux community. They get the source code from places like GitHub, looked over it, and then modified it to work with their distribution; this is by desgin. You can't do this with closed source software. Developers of closed source applications have to do all the work themselves rather than relying on the community to do it for them. You might be wandering, "so? Why not just make the game work for Ubuntu as it is and leave at that. Games doesn't need to be open source to work on Linux right?" For it to continue working for the foreseeable future, it does. Linux doesn't have things like Dot Net, Visual Studio, or direct X. Sure, it may have things like Vulkan and OpenGL but those don't have the same kind of infrastructure that the closed source software needs for long term functionality. Game developers don't want to work on a game for much longer after it's been released. Once they've release it, they spend the next few weeks or so patching it and then they move on. They don't want to hear about it after that. Because Linux Distros are being changed or modified by the community in one way or another, the software for it must also be changed and modified to keep up with it. When something is open source, like for example VLC, it's not that big of a deal. The distro maintainers can make the changes they want to the OS and change VLC's code to accommodate. With closed source you can't to do this. This is why Windows is like the way it is. They are always building it on top of old code. This is so old programs including your favorite games can still work on it. It isn't perfect, but Windows has the best backwards compatibly of any platform out there; again, this is by design. 5 years ago I kept hearing how gaming on Linux had come a long way. I expect to hear the same thing again in another 5 years. In my experience, it's just as bad now as it was back then. All because it's own community is completely inflexible with too much infighting to get anything done. There's a lot more I could say about Linux but I'll save that for the responses.
