  1. Hi all! So I noticed a few weeks ago that my home network would “crash” occasionally whenever I would try to stream content via Plex on my local network. My client is a 2nd Gen AppleTV 4K. One behavior was: After starting playback, the content would load, but shortly after my server and home network would go offline. All devices would loose connection until my router came back online. The routers would not “reboot” per se, at least according to the status LEDs, but they completely lost connection. Another behavior was: Playback would start fine, but usually after a few minutes, playback would stutter and a “your connection to the server is not fast enough” message would appear. Sometimes it would stabilize, other times it would just lag and crash the network again. Server: 2018 Mac mini running Plex Media Server v.1.87.2.87-87488d5a Router: 2x Linksys Velop MX4200 Anyway, the solution seems to have been to ENABLE “Priority By Device” in my Linksys Smart Wifi App. Assigning my server to the priority list seems to have completely stabilized my network. I watched Oppenheimer (4K @ ~45Mbps), an episode of Bobs Burgers, and am currently watching South Park while typing this. The network appears completely stable. tldr: If you have a Linksys router and your network is crashing when watching Plex, add your server to the “Priority By Device” list in your Linksys Smart Wifi App.
  2. I have an old G linksys router collecting dust. Has anyone found the best use for them or maybe used as a repeater or access point? Firewall, Media Server......one more thing, if someone has the ability (2 NIC Cards) to run dual ethernet lines, is there any performance gains or security gains and has anyone used the MAC changing abilities in *Nix?
  3. Hello fellow LTT forum members, I am in the process of setting up my network and could use your expert advice on the optimal order of my networking gear. My current setup is as follows: ISP > PFSense router > 24 Port managed switch > wifi + 1G dummy switch for all LAN connected devices The hardware I am working with is: PFSense router: 1U Dell Poweredge 1950 24 Port managed switch: Nortel 5520-24T-PWR Wifi: Linksys Archer C4 (or C9 i can't remember I know its an ax router for my VR) 1G dummy switch: TP-Link 8-port 1G My main question is regarding the PFSense router and the managed switch. Currently, the router is set up immediately after the ISP, followed by the managed switch. I am unsure if this is the best arrangement, or if it would be better to swap the positions of the PFSense router and the managed switch. I understand that the PFSense router serves as a firewall, securing my network from potential threats, while the managed switch helps distribute network connections to various devices. I am looking to optimize both security and distribution efficiency in my network. If anyone could lend their expertise or experiences with similar setups, I'd greatly appreciate it. Any other advice or suggestions on my current network setup would also be very welcome. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance! Best regards.
  4. My usage is gaming, game stream broadcasting. Online a lot of the times. Have only a handful of wi-fi devices. I've been through many tp-link routers. Ideally would want more value for money.
  5. Actually, it was probably my Linksys switch, though somebody replied to a post I made on Mastodon and said they had seen other reports of this happening, so I'm not sure who to blame at this point. So anyway, I have the official Steam Deck dock from Valve, and use it quite a lot. It is hard-wired to a Linksys SE3005 un-managed switch that is mounted behind the television. This switch provides hard-wiring capability for the TV, desktop PC, Steam Deck dock and my Nintendo Switch dock. Last night I was using my Deck docked in desktop mode with a wireless keyboard and mouse. I had Firefox open and was using it to watch a YouTube video, but I had left the video paused for a while, while I did something else. The display had went to sleep, but the Deck itself was still on and active. Eventually I decided it was time to go to bed so I walked over and just unplugged the little docking cable from the Steam Deck, then used the hand-held controls to shut it down. About 10 minutes after going to bed my daughter came in and said that Plex on her kodi box wouldn't play the next episode. I told her it was probably just the Plex app being finnicky and to just exit Plex and try again. I didn't hear from her again and I went to sleep. At some point later, about 4:30ish in the morning, I woke up to alerts from my phone; e-mails from "UptimeRobot" informing me that Plex, Nextcloud, etc. were down. At this point, I thought maybe it was just an automatic reboot, since I have the server set to automatically install system updates and, if a reboot is required, perform that reboot at 4-something in the morning. But, it usually reboots so fast that uptimerobot doesn't have time to notice, so I did think it was a bit odd so I waited for 5 minutes or so and then tried to ping my server; nothing. So, I got up, walked in to where the server and router and such are to check on things. The server itself was fine, but the router was not. All of the link lights were going crazy and I noticed that my phone had disconnected from the WiFi and even though the networks were visible, it kept trying and failing to connect. The server itself was unable to ping the router, despite being hard-wired directly into it. Pings mostly failed, or IF they succeeded, it was several seconds worth of latency (not ms, full seconds). So, I power cycled the router. When it first came up everything was great, for about 5 seconds, then it crashed again. That's when I brought my laptop in and hard-wired it to the router so I would have a GUI and a web browser to use for troubleshooting. Next I thought that maybe somebody was trying to DDoS my server, so I powered off my ISP's modem. Still no good. Next I thought, maybe it was some kind of a fluke or configuration error with OpenWRT. I flashed the thing with OpenWRT years ago, and have upgraded it in place once and kept my old configurations, but got a warning about configs being incompatible between releases and had to do some fiddling with some settings to get things working again with the new firmware. So, I hit the factory reset button to clear OpenWRT and reset it back to its default state. (Still OpenWRT, just not configured at all) That still didn't fix it. It was good for about 20-30 seconds, then it went back down. Then I had the thought, maybe it was one of my devices causing issues. So I unplugged everything except the laptop I was using to troubleshoot and power cycled the router, and, everything was fine, and stayed that way. Reconnected the internet, waited, then the PiHole, waited some more, then the server, waited some more. Then I connected the cable that runs to the living room. Boom, dead. Whatever the problem was, it was something to do with the living room, so I unplugged that cable again and went into the living room and one of the link lights on that switch was going wild. Weird thing is though, the TV, Switch and desktop PC were all powered off and the Steam Deck was physically off its dock and in its case. But the link light that was blinking was the one for the Steam Deck's dock. I unplugged the cable from the back of the dock, waited 5 seconds, then plugged it back in and the link light came on and stayed solid, but wasn't blinking any more. Went back to the router, plugged that cable back in, all good. All I can figure is that for some reason there was data in transit at the exact moment I pulled that cable from my Steam Deck, and instead of just letting those packets die out and dropping them, either the dock (how much logic is really in the official dock from Valve?) or that switch, or some combination of the two, entered some kind of an infinite loop and launched a denial-of-service attack against the router. I also power cycled the switch, just to be safe, and since the last backup I took of my configuration for the router's OpenWRT install was with a previous version of OpenWRT, instead of restoring that config and then trying to fix it again, I just decided to spend the next half hour manually reconfiguring everything from scratch in the router, and then made a fresh backup. I also enabled a few more options like "SYN flood protection", configured the firewall to drop all "invalid" packets, etc. so that hopefully, if this happens again, maybe it will stay contained to that switch and not take down the whole network. Everything has been great since. It's not totally clear to me exactly what happened, but I just thought I would put this out there, perhaps as a cautionary tale. I uploaded a short YouTube video describing the whole thing:
  6. I'm having a couple of issues with my network, and I have been unable to find any details on how to resolve it. First, let me explain how my network is set up. It is setup fairly poorly, but it mostly works. Our default gateway is a Linksys LRT214 Gigabit VPN Router, that then connects to a unmanaged switch, which breaks it out to an old wifi router which is used as a wap. From there I then have a line that leads to my room (which is quite close). That line ends into another unmanaged switch which connects both my Cisco routers, a couple of 2911s, and my computer. Attached to my first Cisco router is a switch, on a subnet (192.168.33.0/25) that my NAS and a pi hook up to, and my second router for future use (through 192.168.33.248/30). The biggest issue I'm having is internet connectivity in the 192.168.33.0 subnet. It can access the broader internet, but it has a major problem with dropping packets. The packet loss only happens with internet packets. I haven't had issues with packets getting dropped on the local network. I have the routing tables set correctly, and I have added a clause to the Linksys router's ACL to allow packets through from 192.168.33.0. It seems to be intermittent, so I'm not sure what the problem is. The second issue I'm having is with cables. I've made some cables to do cleaner runs for my router, but my Cisco equipment will not establish links over the cables. I thought I wasn't terminating it correctly, but all of our other equipment does work with it. I've made sure auto MDIX is set on my Cisco gear, and I've tried using the correct cable (straight through and crossover) where needed. I have also made sure that my cabling can do the runs. I'm not sure what's wrong, so any help would be appreciated.
  7. Hi there! So here's my current setup: Linksys MR9000 router, 3 WHW03 nodes (Living Room, Hallway & Upstairs) and my ISP is Virgin Media M500 (500+ down, 36 up). The connection goes Hub 3 -> MR9000 -> Living Room -> Upstairs & Hallway So if I'm in the room with the router, I get roughly 500mbps on wifi, which is freaking awesome, but the nodes get around 150 (the hallway is the furthest away and gets about 80). The most important node is the upstairs node which is where I work and wired directly into the node along with my PS5. Is there anyway to improve the speed of an individual node? I'd like to get above 300mbps on the upstairs node since that one would benefit the most from the higher speed. I've heard of powerline adapters and was wondering if I could use these to boost the nodes performance.
  8. I installed DDWRT on my linksys e2500 and while poking around I found this setting labeled "link Aggregation on ports 3 and 4." I'm pretty sure that means I can effectively use both of those interfaces together in order to double the bandwidth going to one device but I'm unsure if that's correct or if any configuration needs to be done on the device itself to take advantage of this. Also why are my only options in the drop-down menu "no" and "trunk", no clearly means don't do that but what does trunk mean?
  9. So this is a weird problem. Around a month ago or so we had a heavy electrical storm that fried my previous Netgear router (modem is completely fine). I couldn't find a similar model Netgear when I went to replace it so I had to get a Linksys. I've tried googling the problem but most people just say "check your pc's settings and change it so it stays connected when asleep". The thing is, with my old router I never had any issues with WIFI disconnecting if my laptop fell asleep. With the new one something strange happens and I can't figure out why it does this, I'll connect it to the network, let it go to sleep then when I wake it up It says that I'm still connected to the network but there is no internet, every time after this i have to fiddle with turning WIFI on and off (on the laptop) and disconecting/reconnecting to one of the 2 hotspots until one lets me connect. Honestly it shouldn't be a big deal because I can eventually connect but this is getting really annoying.
  10. I'm looking for a reliable mesh system for a two storey building with a stone ceiling. It should be fast and reliable enough for PvP gaming upstairs. I have a cable modem downstairs at the moment, but possibly upgrading to fiber in the near future, so a bit of future proofing for the system is a plus. I'm looking at Linksys MX10 (AX5300 x3) and Netgear Orbi RBK853. Every review seems to find one or the other significantly less reliable than the other, many stating connection breaks and speed drops, etc and no two reviews seem to agree on anything... Good reviews seem almost nonexistent, really. Any recommendations for one of these or something else?
  11. Hello, as the title indicates, I have a Linksys WRT1200AC router. For the past two days at around 8PM, my router has reset itself to factory default settings. I've been able to recover the router and restore it both times. What could be causing this issue? Too me, the regularity of the problem indicates a software issue. The router automatically updates so its firmware is modern. I've also not seen any evidence of any malicious devices on the network. Every device in the network map is mine or a family members. I recently configured an OpenVPN server on the router but that was week ago, the issues started within the last 2 days. I don't see why the issues would start now. My options seem limited but I have not been able to find any recent documentation for a similar problem and Linksys does not have support forums. Looking for anyone with a similar problem. If replacement is the best option, should I buy another Linksys router? Up until now I've loved the thing.
  12. So, I have an issue that I've not seen before. I recently got a new Linksys router (https://a.co/d/3XCzorJ) and one problem that I found was that certain apps on either my or my partner's phone wouldn't load some of the content. We've noticed this happening with Twitter, Reddit, Amazon, and HBO Max, but any other app like YouTube and Facebook seem to have no issues. This seems to be an issue with the WiFi and not with a wired connection. Should I contact support, or is there something I can do/change? Any help is appreciated -Turtle
  13. Hello everyone, I have a strange problem I am hoping someone has run into before. My gf and I both have recent Iphones and we are having an issue with my Linksys Altas Pro 6 system (model MX5503) where the phone shows it is connected to wifi but has no connection whatsoever. It doesn't give a "no internet" message on the phone either, as if everything is fine. Restarting the whole wifi system will solve the problem for a while but it comes back quickly. Restarting the phones does not help. Other devices seem to have no problems. Troubleshooting steps so far: I returned the entire system and got a new one, and set it up from scratch. Same problem. I talked to linksys support and they suggested I run the channel finder, but that does not seem to have helped either. I have no mac address filtering or blocking, I checked. Giving the phone priority in the linksys app doesn't seem to help either. I'm pulling my hair out here, no idea what to do. Anyone know of this issue and what to do? More troubleshooting steps? Thanks!
  14. Is it just me or is TP Link as a brand severely underrated? From their Switches, to their CCTV Cameras, to their Wifi Mesh Pods, they seem to get a bad name for some reason Can anyone spread some light as to why? I've used netgear, linksys and TP link stuff in my home before, the TP Link stuff has smoked them both, from a price point, to a features point and a quality point
  15. I live with my parents in our family home. It was rewired about 15 years ago but no eathernet was put in. Power line is extremely unreliable due to the length of cabling in the house. The house is approximately 10000 Sqft on two floors with stone walls as thick as 1m. This is a long term project that I will be pursuing over the next year to improve the reliability and coverage of the network in the house. I currently have a Linksys wrt 3600 running the entire network but it only covers the centre of the house leaving about half uncovered. I have ruled out a wireless solution, how should i approach a wired solution.

    Mesh Wifi

My Linksys WRT 3200acm which I've had since early 2017 has given up. I am not sure how to go about replacing it, I need WiFi coverage of 10000sqft (the previous router did not actually do this but an upgrade is due). I am intrigued by the ubiquiti access point solution but this will require wiring and I cannot get an electrician till lock down is over. The other option I am looking at is a Mesh wifi system, either the Linksys Velop or the Netgear Orbi. I require more than the max of 3 access points that each of these come with. Is it possible to have 6 of one of these systems in a mesh? I have thick walls (some exceeding 1m) which I am worried will stop an effective mesh if anyone has any experience could you let me know how it works?
  17. So the story is short, My dad works as a Internet/Phone Service Tech. His co-worker gives this to him because he has no use for something like this. (Neither do I. I don't have a ISA Bus on anything) So, Here's some pictures of it. [PS, is this post in the right area?]
  18. So I'm looking at the LINKSYS LRT224 VPN router and have a two questions about it. 1. How would I set this up? 2. Is it a partnered vpn service or can it be used with various vpn services I'm currently using Mullvad VPN service and have been for a very long time now My current Internet Service Provider is Eir located in Ireland. My Ookla Speed Tests average around 9ms ping 72 Mbps download and a 18Mbps upload LINKSYS LRT224 VPN Router: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-LRT224-Business-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00GQATRAW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493660960&sr=8-2&keywords=linksys+vpn+router Looking forward to your answers -Nuclear
  19. My problem is with using my Linksys E8500 and using the Verizon G1100 as a bridge for FIOS TV. I was able to get it to work just fine on Friday by releasing the DCHP lease, then plugging the cable from the ONT box to my router. I then changed the G1100's IP address to 192.168.5.1 and distribution range as the guide I read suggested to prevent interference with the router handing out LAN IPs in the same range as the G1100. Everything for FIOS TV works just fine doing this (except the mobile app for recording shows but I don't care) When I first did this everything worked just fine. I was getting a solid 850 down and 900ish up wired and a PC two rooms over from the router was getting 600+ down and 800 up on my E8500's 5GHZ WiFi. I noticed yesterday that now that Pc is only getting around 200 down and 150 up, while my wired connection from the E8500 is now getting 370 down and 200 up. I decided to test the incoming connection from the ONT box directly to verify I was getting the 800+ down and up speeds and sure enough, I was. I also plugged that cable into the G1100 to test that as well and I can get the full wired speeds from it. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with Verizon continuously renewing the DCHP lease, but since I'm no expert in networking I wanted to know what others more versed in this matter suggest.
  20. Hello all, First post on LTT forums! How exciting. Anyway, I'm pretty new to networking, and setting anything up beyond a home wifi network is a bit daunting, forgive me for any ignorance. However, I've recently developed a need to connect a device to my home networking via wired ethernet and it has no wireless capability for some odd reason (philips hue bridge); range is not the issue. So I've tried a number of things from things I've learned here. First I used a dedicated wireless repeater with ethernet ports that was loaned to me, but I had to return it when the owner moved away and, while it could be unrelated, my roommate and I did notice slower than normal internet speeds and other problems. Again, no idea if the repeater and internet issues were related. After that I used my own powerline adapter that I had sitting in the basement. This worked to connect the Philips Hue Bridge to the network, but I couldn't keep this set up since the powerline adapter made one of the power outlets on my wall unusable, and outlets are at a premium in my room; I needed to plug surge protector strips in. Now, my plan is to use another router (Linksys WRT1900AC) in bridge mode to connect the Hue Bridge to the network. But since I'm doing that, and my router has four ethernet ports, why not plug in more devices like my desktop PC and perhaps another computer? Will giving them this wired connection be more stable when it's still running to the wireless bridge? Will doing this affect my internet speeds at all? Should I just leave my PC and laptop on wifi and only connect the Hue bridge? Thanks for any and all advice! I've gotten so much conflicting information on bridge and repeaters, so hope you can help me out!
  21. I'm looking to buy a Linksys WRT 3200ACM to replace the modem/router we're currently renting from COX. Also planning to pair it with a Linksys CM3016 cable modem. Just looking for a few second opinions on all of it. 1. How's the routers default GUI? Should I install DD-WRT on the router? I've never had a chance to play around with it myself before but I've heard good things about it. I also can't stand when i can't adjust certain settings like on my current rented modem (almost everything is hidden or locked down). 2. Are these high gain antennas worth it for me? I live in a medium sized 1 floor apartment, the router will be towards one end of it. I know these will impact vertical performance but i don't need that, since I only live on 1 floor. From what I know they work well, but my apartment isn't exactly huge (little over 800sqft) so I'm not sure the $80 for 4 of them is really worth my while. Not to mention they're comically large. 3. On the subject of the modem. I have the Cox preferred 100 package (100mb/s advertised, actually getting around 130mb/s). Will I notice a difference and should I bother with getting the higher tier CM3024 or should I just stick with the CM3016? 4. Any other suggestions? I'm open to anything really. Thanks! -Ken
  22. so i have this Linksys wrt 1200ac and i decided to flash dd-wrt beta 3 on it. long story short i flashed it and ever since i flashed it my wifi goes down sometimes or it says the wrong password mostly on the 2.4ghz so i have to reset it every time and since dd-wrt doesn't make firmware at least twice a year to update i decided to go with open wrt but the problem that i have is when i choose the OpenWRT img or even the stock img it reboots back to dd-wrt so i researched a little bit i found that there is a special firmware someone made just for this but the link is dead so now any suggestions on either going back to the stock firmware then flashing OpenWRT or just on the dd-wrt or any other way would be extremely helpful. http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-MVEBU/ddwrt-linksys-wrt1200ac.bin
  23. I flahed my router Linksys EA6300 with DD-WRT in addition to no internet connection, everytime I reboot the router (cutting power) will simply turn the router into a brick, with no green power light, but lan port lights turns on. Unless I do a 30/30/30 Hard Reset then the router becomes accessible through 192.168.1.1 but have no internet connection. I have tried flashing the router with its orginal firmware and an updated version of ddwrt but everytime it reboots itself it bricks, and when I hard reset it, it remains to use its current firmware. My problem is that every flash when the moment it reboots it wont boot up therefore not completing the firmware upgade and remains the current firmware What can I do to fix the reboot and no internet connection problem? if Not how do I revert to the original firmware?

  25. Hi Guys, New to the forum. Need an AC router with wired gigabit connections and reliable operations. Have a budget of max 6000 INR (Yes, I am from India ) or about 100 USD. Thinking about Netgear R6220, Asus AC58U, TP Link Archer c7, Asus RT-ACRH13, TENDA w1800 R and Tenda AC 15 ac 1900 (A little above my budget though). Would love the advice of someone who is knowledgeable about these. New Suggestions will be appreciated as well. Info about my setup: I use iPhone 7 and AW 17 R4 with Killer 1435 card. My flatmate has MacBook Pro 2016, Mi 5 and iPhone 6S. We also have an XBOX. ISP gives about 100 Mbps speeds. Current router is DLINK DIR 605 and it gives the maximum speed of about 65 mbps generally even through wired connection. Thanks in Advance Cheers
