Hi everyone, first time posting here sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I'm currently using a Hexgears X-1 (the original Kickstarter one I got from a friend) + a Microsoft Ergonomic Wireless Mouse. I want to get a new mouse & keyboard now that I'm getting more into PC gaming & was looking for advice on what brands & models are considered good in terms of comfort, value, etc. I don't really play anything super competitive but want something that will be comfortable when playing FPS games like Halo, Apex & Destiny, as well as when playing RTS & turn-based strategy like Halo Wars, Civ, etc. My hands are average to large size for a 5'9" man and I can't really say what grip I use with the mouse I do have, but I know I don't hold it the way the ergonomic shape tries to encourage me to hold it. I was looking at the HyperX Pulsefire Haste since it's lightweight & I like the cutouts so my palm can breath a little while playing for a long time. Is this considered a good mouse or is there a better value/better quality option I'm overlooking? For keyboard, I'm looking for something a little clicky, but not as loud as my X-1, with RGB & Bluetooth + wired so I can swap it between my work machine and my gaming PC as needed. I'm not sure, but I don't think I can swap the switches on my X-1 unfortunately. I was looking into the world of mechanical keyboards but don't think I have the budget right now for these $150+ kits, as cool as they are. Any suggestions or tips for where to start researching? Happy to do my own digging and decide for myself but as a total noob to this space I'm not sure what's good and what's bad or resources to get started. Thanks so much for any tips and for reading this far!

Looking for a lightweight and usable OS for my old laptop. I had upgraded it to an SSD not long ago and upgraded it into Windows 10 from windows 8 but it does not seem to like Windows 10 much as it just bogs down on the CPU a lot even when im not doing anything. I am looking for an OS that runs fine on a 5 year old AMD laptop with 4 core 2ghz AMD cpu and with 4gb of RAM. I only plan to use Discord and for light video and media browsing. Is there some kind of OS out there that does not take much tinkering with and I can get it up and running easily?

Hey everyone, I have been lugging my 14 liter mini itx around the world for multiple years, but every time it is simply too much of a gamble in terms of the hand luggage weight, because of portable monitor, speakers, Oculus, mech keyboard, etc. Never have I ever had even my massive backpack weighed, but the stress before a flight, and of course the possible financial ramifications, are just too much, especially with this cursed pandemic. And so I've long dreamt of having the option to 'cut up' my setup if need be, for transportation purposes. https://www.quietpc.com/st-fc8-alpha Would this be able to take care of an underclocked 1700x if I slap a fan or two on the outside of the case? For example I currently have a single industrial 3000 RPM noctua fan, and it makes my 2070 XC Ultra at 120% power limit sit at 55 celsius max in the Mantis Plus case. Extremely noisy, but I'm only after portability and good temps. The case is rated for 65W, and they say it should be able to do 90W too. What if you add two 120CFM+ fans to the outside of the case though? I know the aluminium fins are thick and few, but yeah. The reason for this is that the case weight is 2.5kg, and it also acts as a heatsink, which is great in terms of saving weight. This also means that when travelling, I can feel completely safe knowing I have nothing of value left back at the appartment/hotel/etc, as I can just lug the GPU and 6 liter case with me if need be, and leave the PSU/gpu dock at home. I'd then either buy a cheap GT710, or not, and just use the GDC EXC Beast for m.2 egpu, or even just direct PCIE connection with an external PSU (will buy a dell laptop brick if I go the m.2 egpu route). This would essentially cut down on almost 4kg of weight. And with the imbecilic 7kg limits now implemented by many airlines, that would be huge. Any thoughts or am I nuts?

I'm looking for best sounding thin and light laptop (Windows). Are there any thin and light laptops comparable to or better than Apple Macbook Air, sound wise. I see very few reviews actually comparing the sound on the laptops. So I'm not sure which one to pick. I just need thin and light laptop which sound better than Apple Laptops or have similar quality. If there are multiple options, I'd like to compare display and battery life, but sound is priority. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hey you guys on the forum. I work as a software developer in Germany. I've been living in a rural area with very limited internet access (6 Mbit) for a very long time. Thankfully the situation changed now that I have moved. I love gaming and especially playing multiplayer games with my friends over the internet. With such a small internet connection, you often have a bad ping or connection loss. Even the smallest download (Windows updates or Steam) in the background can ruin a round. So I wrote a lightweight application to monitor the connection quality of my internet in the system tray. You can see at a glance how good the Internet quality is to find out if the problem is on your side or somewhere else. This is what the app looks like: Like I said it is a very lightweight application which uses 0%-0.4% of CPU on my 6700k and about 5 MB of RAM. This is what the settings menu looks like: I hope it is particularly useful for those who have bad internet. You are welcome to download and use it free of charge to monitor your connection quality. You can download it from my google drive LINK. Just unzip it and run the PingerLite.exe. You can double click the tray icon to enter the settings menu. Sincerely yours Ciwo

Hey! I am in the market for a new laptop. This is what I want: 13-14" screen (15" in a small form factor would be ok as well) at least 8GB of RAM 6 hours + battery 256GB SSD decent design lightweight I will mainly use the machine for Video Editing (1080p) and Office/Webbrowsing/Netflix. (The ideal machine would be a XPS 15 but it is too espensive...)

I'm looking for some laptops to suggest my 'mother-in-law'. She wants a lightweight computer to work (she's a teacher, so she'll be using Office mainly). Preferably not too small (at least 13'') and needs to run Windows (i.e. VS Chromebooks). Her price target would be around €600 / $640 USD / $835 CAD (purchasing from Europe), but not strictly. Can you guys give me some reccomendations? Thanks in advance.

The laptop I am currently using is a 2013 MacBook pro dual booted. It is a 15inch with a i7 and iris pro graphics. It works perfectly well for what I need it for which is school work and its eh at gaming. It runs most of the games I play. But there are a few which I want to play but I can't. I am going to University in the fall and I am studying pre-med. I want a laptop which will be light and easily portable, lighter than my mac which is about 4-5 pounds, something that is great for a student (considering a surface because of the pen for note taking), and can play all modern titles. I want to be able to play mk10, destiny 2, overwatch, dirt rally/4, ESO, and Elite Dangerous. What do you guys recommend I get or what should I do?

I would like to know what is the best gaming laptop for gaming, not bulky and nether big but the best. Also displaywise wether I should get matte display FHD or QHD 4K glossy. I would like to add to this‚ that Linus did not review the new Razer Blade of this year and that if he could please do so now because I need to know as well if it's ok to buy your laptop on Amazon.

So, I am currently building a completely non-budget desktop computer. See here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/R9sR8K But that is beside the point, I still want to have a touchscreen laptop. I currently have a touchscreen Chromebook, that I dropped and killed the touch capability. I also don't particularly like ChromeOS. My main computer right now is a 17 inch laptop: http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/z-series/z70-80/ (mine is a variant with an i7-5500U 2.4Ghz dual core w/ hyperthreading and a GTX 840 M gpu) I hate that damn Lenovo now. The chassis is horrible, the screen looks nice (apart from the dead pixels) I have had to send it in for repairs twice, and It doesn't play games good. I am honestly done trying to game on laptops. What I really want is a under $1000 Laptop with a good touchscreen and a 1080 screen that has reasonable color accuracy. I am not sure if anything like this exists. I was hoping to stay below 15 inches, and I would prefer 13 inches. I would prefer it to be a 2 in 1, but that isn't a must have. I am planning on looking into this myself, I just wanted to see what this forum had to say about it. (honestly if the inspiron gaming 7000 had a touch screen variant I would buy it instantly) Dedicated graphics are not required. This is more for workstation/ watching videos / standard internet browsing purposes. I would prefer a 500 GB + SSD, If I have to go down to 256 GB I will. Spinning storage is a no go. Sorry for my potentially bad grammar/ sentence structure. plz help this is my chromebook: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/models/laptops/acerchromebookr11 (I have the 2GB ram version) ~Adam (right now I am SUPER upgrading my hardware while I have a job - I am going back to school full time at the end of August) (I am also planning on buying a mirrorless camera and other things going forward.)

Hi everyone. Today, I, as a person who don't really know much about laptops, will share an output of my wishful thinking process with you. TL;DR: read bold and underlined text only. Story goes like this: Many people including me want a good built thin and light all-rounder machine with a dGPU. As a matter of fact, such a setup will generally include a x700 hq cpu + 10x0 gpu and they will cause overheating in that body easily. Results vary from throttling to short life expectancy. Another problem, most people, don't include me this time , won't even need that much processing power in an expensive package to begin with. A mid-range cpu would be enough for them. They just don't care about FPS or stuff like that; only want to play their games at good settings if not max and expect their game would be playable with those settings. So, a weaker processor could do the trick for them. I know there is 7300hq inside of some laptops. But that one still has a TDP of 45w which means it also causes overheating. Well, obvious solution is upgrading the cooling. But I think there may be another way similar to but not hopefully as bad as Max-Q approach. As you know, Intel will increase core count of the ulv processors. So we will see 4 core low voltage cpu's shortly. Do you think successors of i7 ulv's will have enough horsepower to be exchanged with 7300hq or even 7700hq - which isn't really needed but people inevitably ended up with? 7567u for example, has a great single core performance (4ghz turbo) and it's TDP is around 25w I think. Not so weak, eh? Maybe they make a new convertible or 2in1 with one of the stronger 4 core i7 ulv's and put a 1050-1050Ti 4GB or 1060 inside? 1-2 TB3 port, 8-16 GB RAM and one more empty slot, a good pen, two storage slots and we're good to go. Just wishful thinking. But you never know, maybe they will do it. If one can wait long enough So, what do you think? Could such a processor drive a 1060 without being too much of a bottleneck? And without any overheating if put in today's machines?

Hello all! I am an upcoming college student and will be studying Computer Engineering next year. As such, I am in need of a good windows laptop that can run AutoCad Electrical with relative ease. Here are my priorities, in no particular order: -Powerful Needs to be able to perform well in AutoCad Electrical. -Lightweight Less than 4 lbs, please. -Good Battery At least 6 hours battery life, preferably more like 8. -Good Build Quality I know I won't get MacBook quality, but I want something sturdy. -Decent I/O As previously stated, I'm not getting a MacBook. At least 2 USB ports. -Touchscreen I'd like to interact naturally with my devices. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Here is a link to AutoCad Electrical system requirements: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-electrical/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-AutoCAD-Electrical-2017.html

Hello! What are the lightest laptops available (less than 2kg/4.5 lbs) with low/mid tier gpu such as mx150/250/gtx1050/ti/1650/1660 etc. Gaming is certainly not the priority and decent battery life (5h+ without gaming) is expected along with subtle design. (no accent colors/gamer-ish chassis) So far I've considered 2 options; MSI PS42 Modern 8RA (1.2kg) pros: 8565u/mx250/16gb/512nvme/1080@60/white backlit kb/fingerprint/full sized arrow keys! great port selection and 50wh battery cons: questionable build quality/kb flex/thermals(?) Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502DU (2.1kg) pros: 120hz/much better specs. prolly better cooling as well and 76wh battery! cons: not exactly light/crappy wifi/soldered ram/no biometrics Honestly I don't need this much firepower as this machine will be mainly used for web-browsing, video streaming and occasional gaming (nfs mw 2005). Something with ulv cpu and mx chip with 8/16gb ram would do. Slim bezels and fingerprint reader are welcome additions. *EDIT* Also not into any color sensitive work nor high refresh rate gaming. Weight/Battery life and sleek design is what I am after. Thoughts on the given 2 models are welcome. Other recommendations are also appreciated. Thank you.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and specifically just made an account because I thought this was a great place to ask for recommendations. I hope you guys can recommend one based on the details below. Per title, I am currently looking for a new work laptop. I need one with a long battery life and, while work is mostly responding to emails (tech support), I still need it to be powerful enough because I need more than a few apps running at the same time. My work environment requires me at least two separate web browsers, a notepad (the kind with bells and whistles), a notebook app, a PDF reader, Skype, Microsoft Teams, MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel. Depending on the period at work, I could need all of these running at the same time. Also, I would occasionally need to edit videos for work projects. A lightweight would be preferable as I travel around and could use a lighter one than what I am currently using. Speaking of which, I am currently using an ASUS X455LF with an extra 4 gigs RAM added as an upgrade. It is doing OK, but I have been using it almost daily for over three years and has slowed down despite the upgrade. (It also needs some repairs, but I can't send it out for service without an alternative to use for work.) I went around the city a couple days ago and these were what looked good: a Lenovo 330S and a Dell IN7472. (These are among the recommended by the shop people.) My budget is maxed at US$1000. Thank you.

So, i have a 3 monitor setup at home for my home office. But it gets boring to be at home all day, so sometimes i just sit in a library or a cafe to do work, and the laptop screen just isnt doing it for me. I was wondering if there are any light weight high res screens out there that i can carry with me? It can be wall powered, i dont need it to be Battery Powered. There were a few old ones linus reviewed, but even the new ones are WAY to pricey.

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop which is very lightweight and has long battery life, other than that I want it to have a SSD drive and fast CPU, no GPU. My budget is preferably 500$ but if it is worth paying more 750$. It's not timesensitive so if any good release is planned in the future I'll consider it.

Total budget and country of purchase: UK, up to £400, ideally 250-350, willing to go second-hand/ refurbished. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Would ideally like an edge to edge display and decent battery life (>5 hours) How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is very important, less than 1.5kg please Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Realistically has to be windows, but I may partition and add an Ubuntu partition. Happy to install windows myself if you know a way to get it cheaper Do you have a preferred screen size? As per weight - probably has to be smaller, 13" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. would ideally like to do Adobe lightroom, but understand this my not be feasible - I have a higher powered desktop for gaming. I would use it mostly for web browsing, emails, coding - In python - for data analysis, no machine learning however. I have a high-powered desktop I can use for any really demanding tasks. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad) Touch screen ideally - but not a deal breaker. If RAM or Storage is low then I am happy to upgrade it myself - if it is easy to do so. Thank you in advance.

Good afternoon LTT forums, This is my first post in a long time, its good to be back. I am a university student at Concordia starting this winter, but I've recently gotten an internship that deals with large code projects in web development. My dual core 4gb RAM Macbook Air isn't cutting it anymore. I need some recommendations for a laptop, here are my preferences: -Good keyboard, don't really care about trackpad that much since I often bring a mouse around with me -Lightweight (I have back problems) -I need at least 16gb of RAM -A good CPU, I play CS:GO and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance (remember that game??? ) -Good battery life -RELIABILITY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. I NEED A LAPTOP THAT WILL LAST ME ALL OF UNIVERSITY Issue is... I have to work around 1000$ CAD.So that's 758$ USD... I am quite at a loss right now, I don't know anything about laptops! Does anyone have recommendations? Thank you

Hi everyone, I am currently looking for a laptop. While thought I had my mind made up, I'm currently having lots of doubts regarding this purchase. I'm an engineering student constantly on the move, so I don't own a desktop PC. Currently using a 6yo Clevo laptop with a 4710HQ + 860M, but it's way too heavy for me to fly or travel with. I am looking for a new laptop to compliment my work (lots of CAD and CAE software used - pretty big models too). I'd love to get the best I can for less than $1000. but I know these will be extremely heavy and thick. So I'm looking for a machine that should be able to handle the modelling work I throw at it with ease, while being extremely thin and light. Ideally 14" would be perfect, but I know it's hard to find a laptop with a GPU for this price and size, while retaining good performance. So I'm currently looking for 15" options and I'm sure these will be portable and light enough for what I'm looking for. I don't play any games whatsoever, so that's a non issue for me. I just use lots of Inventor, Abaqus, FEMAP, SolidWorks and NX. Should I be considering a smaller laptop (XPS 13 or something), and since I don't game will run fine my software, or is a GPU essential for me (then I'll go for 14"-15"). Obviously looking for a bit of advice and suggestions, and more importantly the best laptop that you think would fit me. Completely open to refurbs too! Thank you so much! :)

Hello, fom a time now I am searching for my first laptop and new battle partner. This is the point, I'm a web developer and also Sys Admin, I travel so much and i want something I can carry in my bag but I dont have so much money. I also play games, not AAA and not as usually as I wanted to but, I play WoW, LoL, Fortnite. Sometimes I play a game that is more power hungry like Assasins Creed(old ones) but I don't expect the Ultra 4k 120fps, for me with 1080p60 low/medium is okay. So i was thinking "Why not just buy a laptop now and, maybe in a few months buy an external graphics card enclosure?" , and thats limit my laptop choice to those with thunderbolt 3. As Sys admin I need at least 16 gb of RAM for light virtualization. About the CPU, something with the new 8th gen CPU will be ok maybe with an i7 will be great but an i5 is ok too The size and weight i think 13-14" is the perfect size and nothing over 2Kg. My options right now are : + Lenovo ThinkPad T480/T480s + Lenovo X1 carbon (expensive) + Dell XPS 13/15 (I know is not in 13-14" but is an option)(expensive) + Dell Latitude 7490 <---My top option right now Options that are not in the list and why: - Razer Blade : Not so good support in my country; expensive. - HP Spectre: Impossible to buy in my country online store, and I can't find 16 gb configuration in amazon. - Macbook : price/performance. - Huawei Matebook Pro : Not in my country right now but is the perfect choice! I will install Fedora 28 to work and maybe dualboot Linux/Windows just for games after I buy the enclosure. So, what do you think guys? Which is the best budget Thunderbolt 3/8th gen/Light-side Laptop If you have more options please tell me I want to expand my choice list. Edit: Matebook X Pro added to options not in the list.
