Budget (including currency): Whatever is worth spending, but not stupid Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Topaz AI, Photoshop, Lightroom Other details https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/6yWm6r Friend of mine who does photography asked me about building him a new system as his current one (4690k) is really struggling, and he doesn't know about PCs himself but he knows I've built a few personally. He's pretty set on getting something new as hes had his current system for a good 8 years or so and wants something that can last another 8 years, hence this list possibly being overkill? I don't know a ton about these programs, mostly just going off their minimum/recommended requirements, but if anyone has suggestions on what to change and what these programs benefit from, that'd be appreciated. If we can keep the budget around £1400-1500 that'd be great, he's pretty happy to spend more but only if it's worth the extra. Also if it can all be from amazon that'd be good too cus logistics (having one place to RMA a dead stuff if need be, etc) Edit: forgot to mention he already has a few hard drives that we would simply stick in this system, he has mentioned about getting some more for futureproofing tho but not essential right now, also the case is one I already own from a previous build so we can just reuse it

Budget (including currency): $400-$500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Filmora video editor, photoshop, lightroom. Other details (Have case NZXT H510, old BFG PSU (550W NOT INSTALLED),): Hi everyone I am new here, I'm 17 and looking to upgrade my 2015 Asus M32CD desktop, specs are: intel core i5-6400 @2.70GHz, 12GB ram, 2GB AMD FirePro GPU, and 1TB hybrid HDD(boot drive) plus more HDDs and an old samsung SSD (128GB). Video editing is slow and choppy even at 1080p and if pushed too hard crashes, In photoshop selecting and masking even small areas takes 20-60 seconds and even longer sometimes, and in lightroom selecting and applying presets can take 1-2 minutes. This is not ideal and I wish for a faster option that can also handle some 4K; not any RAW video just basic 4k from phones and my canon M50. While having these programs open task manager showed CPU 86-100% Ram usage 80-100%, and power consumption was High-very High. I presume that for video editing I need a better CPU and for PS and LR I need more RAM? If y'all don't mind could you help me find the right CPU, RAM, and possibly PSU? My budget is $400-$500USD. I have a NZXT H510 case laying around, a new coolermaster cooler (don't know model number), BFG BFGR550WGXPSU, and all my existing HDDs and SSDs. I suppose I might also need a new motherboard for new CPU. I run Windows 10, and have two 1080p displays with a third when I need it ( in the future I wish to ad a 4K display). I thinks that's all the info. Again I use this for Photoshop, lightroom, and video editing along with simple tasks like documents, YouTube, etc. I originally wanted a laptop but found the price to performance ratio too high (the Dell XPS 15 lives only in my dreams). This is not a gaming PC the only thing I play on it is the 2005 Star Wars Battlefront. I will be using this for work as a Head Media Director at my local summer camp as well as personal photo/video projects. P.S. I also use an old alpha networking adapter for wifi and wish to upgrade in the future. Thanks you

My wife got a Dell XPS 13 9380 at the beginning of 2020 to do photo editing, almost exclusively in Lightroom. In 2022 she went from Windows 10 to 11. Over the last year-ish its really started slowing down though. It takes like 2-3 full seconds to switch from one photo to the next inside Lightroom, which is borderline unusable. Is there anything I can do to speed this thing up?

Does anyone know of a way to zoom out when cropping in lightroom CC I don't mean changing the crop but seeing the whole image as i need to screenshot it.

Hey guys, so I'm fairly new to this part of the internet, and I want to buy a laptop that can run ProTools, Logic Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro. I am currently operating on a school chromebook and do not have access to any of the above mentioned programs at home, only on school equipment. my audio engineering teacher strongly recommended buying a macbook, and think this is a fine idea, however, I am having a very hard time finding one that has the minimum specs at my price point, I have about $800 saved up for a laptop, and I just found a refurbished 2017 macbook pro with an intel core i7, 16gb ram, and 512gb storage. It seems to fit all my criteria, its only $770. Is there anything I should know before making this purchase? I trust the seller, have gotten excellent refurbished stuff from them before. I don't really care about having an awesome laptop, I just want some thing that can run the things I want to learn how to use. Thanks guys!

Budget (including currency): $1200-$1500 Country: USA (near MicroCenter) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: lightroom majority of the time. New game titles AAA games. FPS titles. Light video editing (4K) Other details: My friend got a video card for me so Ill pay him for it. (RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB Founders Edition). I also need a motherboard with WiFi or wifi card. Hard drive space is very important for me. I want a 1TB NVME then have maybe my secondary harddrive be at least 6+ TB. Lots of raw+jpg that I want to store on it. I have my eye on the 5600x.. like I said I'm near a microcenter and he is near one I can definitely get my hands on it eventually. I also don't need RGB if it saves on money. I was able to get a 3080 and 5600x today.

Budget (including currency): 3700 USD (including monitor, excluding other peripherals) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: Anno 1800, CoD, LOL | Photo edditing: Ligntroom, Luminar, big backup for photos in RAID Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello internet strangers! I'm assembling my first custom build (which I intend to start doing by the beginning of 2021) and would like to share my thought process for both receiving improvements suggestions and helping whoever is also trying to define their own build. I would love to hear your thoughts on the parts I'm selecting - do you see any compatibility issue, any individual performance concern, anything you would rather buy a cheaper version with a similar result, ... I'll walk you through my rationale and needs, but if you want to jump straight ahead to the list itself, here it is. The complete part's list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JLdycT [ ~$3700] for PC + Monitor [ ~$1500] for Miscellaneous Rationale: - I want to future proof myself by buying good parts since I'm (a) building from scratch and (b) I'll build while I'll be in the US and after a few years I'll have to move - i.e. future hardware upgrades would be way costlier. - I'm a gamer (no shit Sherlock), meaning: I need a good graphics card; DRAMS with good speed and low CAS (low latency after all); A good CPU (love to play Anno). - I'm a photographer (it's a hobby that I take seriously) and I love to post-process heavy raw images later on, meaning: I need a good amount of memory space and also a proper backup (in raid) - cloud could get really expensive when you have 5TB+ ; I need a fair amount of DRAM memory, 32GB will set me back, but since I don't edit videos (usually), 128GB seems unnecessary; A good processor. Since I don't render digital images or 3d models I shouldn't need an $800+ threadripper CPU, though. Parts discussion: [$550] CPU: Since I need a combination of CPU performance and gaming, at a fair price, I decided to go with AMD. Given the latest news, I believe the 5900x should be available by January, and would future proof myself offering great performance, so that's my pick: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-5900x [$300] Motherboard: I need a motherboard with good power delivery (amount of phases and its quality) since I will be overclocking the 5900x and likely the DRAMs; Future-proofing is important to me, so I wanted PCIe gen 4 connections and an x570 chipset; I intend to use at least 6 SATA ports, so that's a boundary as well (well, not quite... I could expand my # of SATA with a PCI-e SATA adaptor, but that could constrain my RAID capabilities in addition to adding cost and complexity); I wanted at least one USB 3.2 gen 2 connector - Will make my life easier when transferring photos from my camera; I don't care for RGB, actually I rather not to have it (sorry RGB folks); I may be constrained on internet cables where I will be living, so I want a WIfi-capable MOBO - with good bandwidth to allow for proper gaming. With all that I decided to go with the one that is cheaper at the time among these two: - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GcfFf7/asus-rog-crosshair-viii-hero-wi-fi-atx-am4-motherboard-rog-crosshair-viii-hero-wi-fi - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CLkgXL/asus-rog-strix-x570-e-gaming-atx-am4-motherboard-rog-strix-x570-e-gaming [$150] CPU cooling: I'm using and overclocking a very strong CPU so a no-stock cooler is a must. Since the pc may eventually have to travel, I was inclined not to use an Air cooler (A NH-D15 would be quite heavy, putting tension on the MOBO in the travel). Also, the big and potent air coolers have a narrow RAM clearance (32mm for NH-D15) which would restrict me on the RAMs -- I'll be using 4 DRAMS, more on that later. So, for a non-RGB guy, looking for performance and price, and for an AIO water cooler, that's what I plan on going for: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JfVG3C/nzxt-kraken-x63-9817-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-rl-krx63-01 [$300] RAM: As I mentioned in my needs, I needed to go for 64GB+. Also, I wanted a good CAS and frequency (something over 3400 Mhz and less than 18CL). Also, I decided to go with 4 sticks rather than 2 for three reasons: Price; 4x16 usually outperforms 2x32 in gaming I don't believe I will need to add more memory at least in the next 7-8 years, so I'm fine with not having spare RAM slots Once again, I don't care for RGB and at that point I decided to go for a white-themed PC, so I decided to go with 2 sets of these 2x16 memories: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9y848d/crucial-ballistix-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-bl2k16g36c16u4w [$907, yes I know...] Storage: Again, I have two big needs: fast access storage and a huge capacity for backups. [$162] Fast access: I went for the EVO 970 1TB (for the operational system, games, and editing programs). I feel that the 980 is way overpriced for the additional performance, while the difference from the EVO970 to other 1TB NVMe options is bearable - Actually, I'm not 100% sure of it, I may change for a cheaper NVMe... what do you think? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Zxw7YJ/samsung-970-evo-plus-1-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-mz-v7s1t0bam [$351] Daily usage storage (mainly my photos and files): I decided to get a mix of performance and cheap storage: 2x 2TB WD Blue SSDS in RAID 0 configuration - I know these WD blues do not have great speeds, but I think having them in RAID 0 and using for photo and other files should be enough. The total 4TB is a must though, I need ( 3TB+) https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Mtprxr/western-digital-0-25-2000000rpm-internal-hard-drive-wds200t2b0a [$392] Backup: I wanted to go for something with a virtual memory of 8TB+ and with RAID (not raid 0). Originally, I thought of having 3 HDDs in RAID 5, but my MOBO doesn't support the RAID 5 setup. Thus, I decided on a 4HDD Raid 10 setup (which is supported by the MOBO). With that, having 5400RPM HDDs is more than enough (remember, backup), since the RAID 10 would also speed them up. Even being in RAID I didn't want to go very cheap and compromise on reliability, so I decided to go with 4x 6TB WD Blue (in RAID 10), rather than the cheaper barracudas (which have a higher Annual Fail Rate) https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Z2HRsY/western-digital-blue-6-tb-35-5400rpm-internal-hard-drive-wd60ezaz [$700] GPU: I think this one was a no-brainer for me. I want a very good GPU for gaming and future-proofing. However, I won't be playing on 45" 4K monitors, so I decided to go with the RTX 3080, and for aesthetics and benchmark results I chose the Founders edition: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RnDkcf/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-10-gb-founders-edition-video-card-9001g1332530000 [~$150] Case: I had a few preferences here: Mid-tower (Having a full tower could be annoying when moving in a couple of years); Good ventilation is a must, low noise levels are preferred; At least 4x 3.5" bays without having the HDD showing between the MOBO and front panel; White color preferred; USB 3.2 gen 2 in the front. With all of that, I decided to go with the https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bnzkcf/phanteks-eclipse-p600s-atx-mid-tower-case-ph-ec600pstg_wt01 I love its aesthetics, the fact that it supports 3x140mm fans in the front, 3x140 in the top, and 1x140 in the back, and checks my other boxes. It also performed very well in benchmarks for acoustics and cooling capabilities. In addition, love the fact that all my storage would be properly hidden behind the MOBO shield or beside the PSU. [$205] PSU: My bare minimum is a 750W due to the RTX3080, but that being said, I wanted to future proof myself and go two steps more (+200W) thinking of upgrading after ~5-6 years without having to change the PSU - these things last an eternity. Not to mention that having a few Watts more would allow me to overclock without a heavy conscience and would put me in a good point in the PSU efficiency curve. Also, I don't believe I'd ever been SLIing, so no need for humongous Wattages here...In addition to that, I went for strong brands and 80+ gold at least. Looking at the prices I chose https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nQJkcf/corsair-hx-platinum-1000w-80-platinum-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020139-na which right now is $205 so I think it's a very good price. If its price increases, I would go for the 1200 W version which is $250. [$92] Case cooling: These were my guidelines: All 140mm fans (allow for better noise levels, which was one of the factors for picking the case); I wanted some white light coming from them in the upper-back part of the case; Having the sum of inflow CFMs being higher than the outflow CFMs sum. The case comes with 3x140mm non-led and non-PWM (3pin) fans. I intend to leave them all in the front, however, I saw that they are not very strong/efficient -- unfortunately, I found very little data for them. Would love if some could provide numbers on them. With that, I decided put the radiator (280mm) on the front in a push-pull config, while having one of the 140mm slots with only the stock fanThat would allow me to have 5 inlet fans in the front, but with a non-extraordinary individual performance. To balance it I decided to have 3x140mm in the rear/top of the case, having decided to go with the https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ycH48d/corsair-co-9050046-ww-970-cfm-140mm-fan-co-9050046-ww With that, I would have 3 strong outlet fans vs 5 average inlet fans, which certainly would give me a very good airflow in terms of displaced volume, and hopefully a positive pressure environment. In addition, it would complete my white but sober build. Also, I didn't want to put any outlet fans in the top-front position of the case since I believe it actually acts against the cooling efficiency (exhausting cool air before it refrigerates anything). [$300] Monitor: I'm still thinking a lot about this one. I'm already a little over budget so I didn't want to spend too much, that being said, my minimum specs from what I think would suit me (and I could be very wrong here, so please comment on that) are: 144Hz+ 2K+ 27"+ Low response time G-sync With all of that, I found this, which seems to be a very good cost-benefit: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/LFRzK8/acer-xv272u-pbmiiprzx-270-2560x1440-144-hz-monitor-xv272u-pbmiiprzx In addition to all of these main parts, I also picked some smaller ones, but I don't think it's worth mentioning. For the full list of parts, please visit: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JLdycT My main open questions: - Should I save money on my main NVMe using a $100 Crucial P5 or so? - Do you have data on the Phanteks stock fans? - Is 27" too small for gaming? I also think that going too big would make me have to move my head a lot while gaming, so wouldn't be ideal, but maybe a 32" would be a better sweet-spot? Would you have any specific monitor suggestions around this price range? Comments are very well appreciated! Hope I also help someone with their thought process. Best

Hey everyone I am looking for a new laptop for doing photo editing using Lightroom and photoshop currently I use a surface pro with 4gb of ram and a i5 7300u it is alright but definitely struggles at times and is annoying to work on the screen is good at least. What I need from the laptop is for it to easily be able to run whatever I want keeping in mind that may at times want to have other things open in the background as well ads photoshop and Lightroom. It needs to have a good colour accurate screen and have decent battery life as I will be using it daily any suggestions is greatly appreciated and i know it wont be cheap so there isn't really a budget thanks again.

Hi, I do photography when I travel abroad and i've been struggling with some hardware choices to make to backup/edit my photos on the go. I know my way around PC hardware pretty well, but never had the need for a laptop. Now I'm starting to think it's the better choice. I passively watched some LTT videos in the past about laptops so I kinda know that to be aware of. I need something slim, screen FHD is fine (avoid extra costs) around 15" to be compact. A good and large trackpad and a keyboard that holds up. No need for an i7 or tons of ram, I only plan to use it to browse, transfer files and do some Lightroom and Photoshop, but I don't want it to get obsolete too quickly. Also at least 1 USB type a port, 2 would be better. I know my description points me towards apple but I want to keep it PC. (So yeah maybe whats a good macbook PC equivalent ?) I'ts a pretty open question, but if you could give me some brands/models pointers so I have a starting point, I would be grateful. Thank you !

Hi, I have usually used my PC which I thought was my dream machine for everything from Gaming to photo editing and I was really happy until recently I had a lot more photo-shootings and was forced to stay away from home for a longer period of time. Also I don't do much gaming in the last couple of months. The Games I play and might want to keep playing are all of the Tomb Raider's, NFS Heat, Titanfall 2, Skyrim (with only a few Mods) and older stuff like NFSU2. to be clear gaming is not a must! Dual boot with Ubuntu Studio or Endeavour OS is basically a must for me. Prioritys are: -a nice display with a good color accuracy and either 100% DCI-P3 or 100% Adobe-RGB -a fast processor either Intel or AMD no ARM-stuff -32GB of RAM(if soldered) or 16GB if the laptop is upgrade friendly. -portable and not too heavy -backlit Keyboard -(fast) SD Card Reader would be preferred Price Range up to 1700EUR. Unfortunately as much as I love my Surface Go 2 it's simply too slow and the display is in some cases a bit small for serious work. My plan is to sell my setup and maybe my Surface Go and get a Laptop. Any suggestions for what to buy? thanks Philipp

I am looking for a set up that will be mostly used for heavy Lightroom and Photoshop work, and light video editing, mostly at 1080p with the hopes of smooth editing. I will also be sharing this with my girlfriend so she can use it to play sims 4 on. I already have external saving stations and solutions in place. Main goal is smooth experience for the Sims 4 and non frustrating video editing experience.

Hi All I am currently looking for a suitable alternative to Lightroom and was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions? Looking for something with a perpetual license instead of a subscription based one. Need something that has the ability to create pre-sets, a file managing system (Though basic is fine), batch-processing if possible and also the ability to add a signature to photos upon export. I have two options currently, which are listed below, but I am open to others as well. Please note though that I am trying to get something under 100 USD if possible. Some of the ones I am currently looking at: On1: https://www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/ Affinity Photo: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/ Both are on sale, hence they are tempting but I'd like more opinions especially from those who used it, or if there are other better options on the market. Also put a poll up as well. Thank you in advance! :)

Hello, does anyone know if a more modern GPU would make my experience improve in Ligthroom and Photoshop (only photo edit, not video). Intro: So yeah, Lightroom is either poorly coded or power hungry, but bottom-line: on a budget/old system IT IS SLOW! So I want to surprise my wife with a new build, and throw the old DDR2-system out the window. 1. Budget & Location Budget is R20 000 - R30 000 (which is about 1500 - 2300 USD with an exchange rate of 13.2 R/USD at the time of writing this). I am located in South-Africa and the best retailer and parts I have access to (not limited to) can be found here: http://www.pcint.co.za/en/components , But no Noctua fans Parts that I aim to carry over from the previous build include an 8TB Seagate archive HDD, 4TB WD HDD, Samsung Evo 250 GB SSD, Thermaltake 700W PSU, PS2 Keyboard (if possible), USB mouse, USB WiFi, USB Printer, USB monitor calibrator, USB card reader, USB Cam, and DVI monitor. (need a lot of external USBs for new build) 2. Aim Aim 1: LIGHTROOM PERFORMANCE!!! (Adobe photo editing). Not a lot of 'Photoshop-ing'. Exporting and rendering previews can be run overnight (that is what she does on her current system), but she needs more performance during general tasks while editing, while having waaaay to many tabs open in a browser, and possibly running iTunes as well. (Windows system) Aim 2: Longevity. Careful consideration of parts allowed her current system to last more than a decade (with the exception of SSD and HDD upgrades), I would like the same for this one. I.e. Intel optane ready, USB 3.1 type C etc. The i5 7600 might be cheaper but the i7 7700K might be still fast enough a decade from now (stuff like that). Aim 3: Quite. Working alone from home, with no AC in the office, all you hear the whole day is the hum of the computer fans. No gaming. (Well... I would love to, but this is mainly for her work.) 3. Monitors Only one 1080p, but with longevity in mind the system should be able to handle 2x 4K monitors. 4. Current plan and motivation: Corsair 600Q Inverse ATX Full-Tower (Quite) Case - 3x AF140L (140 mm Airflow optimized, low noise) fans included - R 2745 (208 USD) [I like the formal look, 4xfront usb and fan control, enough space inside for upgrading to water cooling or whatever in the future] Asus ROG series Z270 Maximus 9 (iX) Hero MB - R 4845 (367 USD) [Like the many USB in I/O, includes USB 3.1 type C, 2x M.2, Z270 Chipset - which is relatively new, etc] Intel i7 7700K - R 5699 (432 USD) [After a lot of research I've come to the conclusion that Lightroom doesn't really use more than 4 cores, also the X99 chipset is older as well as the 6th generation chips, and would be a lot more expensive build. CoolerMaster Hyper 612 V.2 Air Cooler - R 827 (63 USD) [low noise at under 20db, can be used without fans for a passive cooling, figured the 600Q has got good enough airflow already] Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4-2400 Kit(4 x 8GB) Lpx with low-profile heatsink - R 3989 (302 USD) [So here I'm very unsure about memory size and speed, the MB spec says: "4x dual channel DDR4-4133(O.C)/2133 with XMP support up to 32Gb" Does that mean I can OC the RAM from 2400 - 4133, or do I OC the MB from 2133 to 2400, or can I run the 2400 at 2133, or is it better to just buy the 2133 RAM for about 13 USD less????? GPU - No Idea!!! - I just know that I want one with only one fan exhausting to the back of the case, not one of those with 3 fans, and should be able to handle 2x 4K monitors.. Suggestions? 5. Conclusion Please advise on build compatibility, do you think a have a good set to meet my aims? RAM? GPU? Thank you all in advance!!!

Hello all, A year ago I built my first PC and at the time I was only interested in web-browsing and YouTube etc with the occasional session on games like Shellshock Live, which aren't very intensive. I decided on an A10-7870k with 8GB of 2400Mhz Ram.Since then, I have taken up photography as a hobby as well as shooting short videos for a blog @ 1080/60 which are around 10 minute videos which on my PC take around 25/30 mins to render. As I said, my PC does ok but it does get a little sluggish especially when using Lightroom and Photoshop together or when rendering 1:1 previews in bulk. I am hoping to start taking many more photos now summer is approaching and in terms of video, that could go either way.I'm heavily considering the i5 7600k as I mostly do photo work but I'm also considering the i7 6700k just in case I ever need to work on more complicated videos which again, may or may not happen. I'd be happy venturing into OC'ing a little because it looks interesting to me and some extra performance is always nice. My CPU will be complemented with 16GB of 3000Mhz (or other?) RAM and an appropriate Z1/270 motherboard. My dilemma is spending the extra money for the i7 now when I don't really need that power today but I might 12 months down the line and don't want to spend more money upgrading again.I am of course aware of Ryen 5 coming soon but for now I'd like to focus just on the two (or anything else equally as good for less money)Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: If i were to get the 7600k for example for lets say 70% photo 30% video, could I still get good results with that CPU and would it be a noticeable improvement in speed etc over my current APU? How much on top of the 7600K would the 6700k be in the above scenario considering the £100/150 price difference?

I already posted this in the monitor section, but thought I might get a more relavant audiance here: Name your ultamate screen for photo work, please motivate (budjet options also welcome).

I've been going to a friend of mine's and using his old copy of Lightroom to do my RAW image processing. I would like to get some software of my own, but don't want to spend an outrageous amount for a permanent license or subscribe for $10 US a month. I'm really just an amateur photographer, so I don't see spending money on software I may only use once a month. What are the good, cheap alternatives to Lightroom? Everywhere I go, it lists so many, and so I don't know which really are the best overall. Once again, I'm not looking for some big professional suite. What I find myself doing most is using the brush tool to process things in small areas, as well as adjusting white balance because I never seem to get that right when I take the shot. I like Lightroom's ability to do those sorts of things easily while not being limited. I also enjoy the ability to add graduated filters and the like.

Hello everyone. My brother has asked me to help him put together an editing PC. He also plans to do a bit of streaming on it but not for gaming. I am not a video editor myself, so I asked him what software he uses so that I can best help determine what parts he needs. Primarily he uses Adobe Premiere Pro and Lightroom. I was originally going to throw together something Ryzen based with a 1060 6GB (or maybe just a 1050ti). However I've been poking around and I've learned that Adobe and Lightroom benefit from single core clock speeds depending on their use case (thus favoring Intel). I've also learned that Adobe has several effects that are CUDA accelerated and that something more like a 980ti would be more useful than a 1060. Now I'm struggling to really nail down just what the kind of performance difference I get between different parts. Here is what I'm considering. CPU: Intel - Core i7-7820X 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor ($659.99 @ Amazon) OR Intel - Core i7-7700k 4.2GHz 4-Core Processor CPU Cooler: ARCTIC - Liquid Freezer 240 74.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($81.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock - X299 Taichi ATX LGA2066 Motherboard ($280.99 @ SuperBiiz) OR ASRock - Z270 Taichi ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($225.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung - 960 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($279.99 @ B&H) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.89 @ OutletPC) Case: Fractal Design - Define C ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.89 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home Full - USB 32/64-bit ($102.89 @ OutletPC) Monitor: Dell - U3415W 34.0" 3440x1440 60Hz Monitor ($670.00 @ B&H) What kind of speed difference is there between a 7700k and a 7820X really? I mean synthetically and on charts clearly the 7820X but in reality, how much actual time - in seconds or minutes, are we talking about in terms of ability to encode and handle workflow? What kind of GPU should I put into the system? 980Ti? 1060 6GB? 1050ti? If I threw in an 1800x and a B350 mobo would it be appreciably slower? He'll be doing content creation in 4k, mostly short videos for things like Youtube. However, having never done something like this, I really don't know just what kind of value I'm getting for the listed parts. I'd like it to be less expensive if possible, but I'd rather not sacrifice performance in the name of being cheap. In other words: Where's the sweet spot for Adobe and Lightroom? Gaming is not a concern here at all.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post to get most views/better responses vs the software section. I'm looking for potential alternatives to Lightroom since it seems to me it gets slower with each version and I'm over it. One options looks to be ACDSee that I can do a trial for to see how I like it, but I'm curious what others may recommend. I'm not a pro and just use Lightroom for organization and management (ratings, color labels, smart collections, etc.), exporting, and some basic touch ups. So I can potentially go down to a cheaper product. I used be a Mac user and used iPhoto, but had issues at some point that made me migrate to Aperture. Then to Lightroom after Aperture got discontinued. Ideally the alternative can read the xmp metadata I saved from Lightroom, in particular ratings and color labels. I presume saved development stuff like cropping, etc. won't import but that's fine. Ideally the alternative can also save the xmp metadata (e.g. to the original file if it is say a jpeg) in case I want to ditch it for something else down the line.
