Hello everyone, My I5-3330 is starting to be struggling in some games, and I would like to upgrade the CPU in order to get a bit more life out of my ageing PC with the Intel DH77KC motherboard. I am hunting for some kind of upgrade, and today a Xeon E3-1270 v2 popped up locally for around 15 dollars. Unfortunately, from the websites I found, this Xeon is not officially supported, even though others, such as 1275 v2, are. Should I take a risk and try getting the CPU? I have recently had success with putting some Xeons into LGA1156 after BIOS updates, even though they were not officially supported. As far as I know, I also updated the bios a few years back, but since the Intel forums are inaccessible without login now, I cannot confirm this (I am not sure whether I updated the drivers only or also did the BIOS update), so I will wait until you guys help out before wasting a bit more time. But if you have a good source for the Intel bioses, I would also highly appreciate the suggestion. Is there a good chance for this to work, or are Intel boards problematic in this regard? I think the price is not that bad even to try it and resell it in the worst case, but I bet there is someone more knowledgeable here who knows the answer directly. Any help, suggestions, or past experience would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance, and have a nice day!

I found a deal on some hardware and am curious on if my current waterblock for my lga 1155 cpu would work for a LGA 2066 cpu? I see that most blocks look to be compatible, just not sure of the actual mounting hardware. Cheers.

Ordered a super cheap Dell Optiplex 790 motherboard on eBay for $12.99 USD to begin my very inexpensive NAS build. I’ve built a Haswell i5 video editing rig a few years ago using a mobo from an HP pavilion and it worked almost flawlessly. I cannot get this system to POST. No video output direct from motherboard or from pcie DVI graphics card. When PSU is switched on, fans will pulse without shorting the power pins, and 2/3 boards will give a 4 short beep error code. No matter what I do, I cannot figure out what the issue is. I have tried 3 separate motherboards. 2 of which were identical from a Dell Optiplex 790. And one was an Acer motherboard. All use the LGA1155 socket. I have used 2 or 3 separate power supplies that I know work for sure and have worked with other systems just fine. I ordered an i5 and then an i3 both LGA1155 to try to rule out the cpu causing the issue - same with both. I ordered DDR3 that said “server ram” in the title and thought maybe this was the issue.. but then took 2 4GB sticks of DDR3 Out of my working Haswell build to try to rule out the ram. Still nothing. Still just running the cpu fan as soon as it’s plugged in or pulsing the fans with no video output at all. I feel like it’s nearly impossible for three Motherboards, two CPUs, two PSUs, and two sets of ram to not have any combination that works or at least outputs to display. I feel like I must be missing something really stupid.

My Dad has an old Acer Aspire X3995 tower that we'd like to repurpose as a NAS for storing and streaming movies. The problem is that the motherboard is fried and we need to replace it, so I've been looking online for some new boards. According to Acer's spec sheet, the X3995 (back then) had an Ivy Lake CPU, an LGA 1155 socket and a B75 chipset. However, having hung around in r/buildapc for a while and having seen a lot of B450 vs X570 boards, I think that I might be able to get away with an H61 board (as I can't find a B75 board online). Am I correct in assuming that the CPU needs to be compatible with the socket and not the chipset?

This is a quick questions before i pull the trigger, i'm searching for a Micro ATX motherboard for a VR machine. I'm planning to add my old CPU - Intel Core i7 3770K, 1155, Ivy Bridge into it. So far i have only found one motherboard that's compatible (maybe?) And thats: ASUS P8B75-M/CSM LGA 1155 Intel B75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro Will this work? and also will it accept this RAM > 8GB Corsair DDR3 XMS3 PC3-12800 I'm a bit worried because the CPUs kinda old and micro atx has only just because more commonplace, so maybe I'm missing something important and it won't work. Thanks for any help/advice

I found a motherboard from a https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m91p/specs/ for cheap Is there any problems using this motherboard for a cheap gaming system? I don't plan on overclocking but if I could that would be cool. Is there any thing I should worry about with OEM mobo? Also is a i5 2400 good enough for gaming (I think I found one for 30 AU) Thanks, Hugh

Well, I'm making a new build and have some doubts about CPU cooling. My current build (the relevant parts, at least) consists of an Intel I7-3770K (LGA 1155), mounted on an ASUS P8H77-M Pro; I'm currently using an Akasa Venom Voodoo to cool the CPU. It's about 4 years old. I will upgrade to an I7-6700K (LGA 1151) mounted on an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming. My doubt is if the Akasa Venom Voodoo would fit the new motherboard and cpu – since there's no description about LGA 1151 in the manufacturer's info (probably because there were no LGA1151 parts back then? idk) – or should I replace it with a Cooler Master Hyper 212X? I'm not interested in overclocking it or anything, I just would like to keep the Akasa Venom Voodoo because of its looks, as I find the Hyper 212X sort of unappealing. Tl;dr: 4-year old Akasa Venom Voodoo fits LGA1151? Is it worth to keep using a 4-year old CPU fan instead of a brand new Hyper 212X? Also, just ran a 10-min stress test on AIDA: CPU cores 1-4 temperatures averaged between 60-65º, CPU temperature at ~55º (Room temperature ~28º). Thanks in advance for any info.

OK so my friend is starting to do some video editing. He currently has a GTX 950, an Intel I7 920, and 4 GB of DDR2 memory. Im wondering is it more worth for him to buy a new CPU (I have a mobo,ram,psu,etc.). To cut costs I have a Motherboard with an LGA 1155 socket for him to use. What CPU should he use and should he even consider making a new system. Thanks LLT forum people and yeah =P

Hey. I have my main computer which I game and watch youtube etc. So I bought another old pc from a school in my town. The pc is from 2012 and cost me 10€. I got keyboard, mouse and 16:9 monitor with the cables also with it. The computer has mATX MSI motherboard (LGA1155), i3 2100, 8gb of ddr3 1333mhz ram, cd/dvd drive, 500gb hdd and 500w psu. Yes, all that for 10€ (11.6 USD) I changed the 500gb hdd for a 120gb hdd from old laptop as Im not going to need that much space on second computer, so Im going to put the 500gb on my main computer. I don't have the 10€ computer at my home because I left it at my grandparents place because I go there a lot so I would have a computer to do stuff with there. I installed Linux Mint, as I want to learn linux more. The computer had some passive cooled geforce card but I did not bother about it and changed it to quadro fx 1800 that I got for free from a friend. After you have read my life story^^ (jk), I would like to ask what is the best sandy bridge cpu upgrade for cheap? I have been looking for i5 and i7. I would like the i7 more just because it's a i7. What do you think I should get? My budget is max 50-70€ and I do not want any like brand new parts as used will be the best option for this computer. I'm not going to edit any videos on this computer and only gonna be doing light gaming like casual minecraft, css, hl etc. older games for the nostalgia. And mostly this computer will be used just to browse internet by me as I am the only user.

I have an ECS Q77 based machine that just wont start. Fans all spin but I get no video and 3 beeps. Its this one - http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Overview.aspx?DetailID=1457&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0 Checking the AMI BIOS codes and manual it says the RAM is likely culprit. I swapped the RAM (tried 3 different pcs) and nothing .. just 3 beeps. I had a G620 in there so thought I would try an I5-2400 from a working Asrock H71 but no luck. I tried 2 different GPU and without GPU and 2 different PSU (both GPU and PSU work fine with the Asrock system) The 3 pcs of RAM and both CPU work 100% in the Asrock but the ECS simply beeps. I had a look and the cpu pins seem OK but I'm no expert (even after watching the latest LTT on bent pins) Anyone seen this .. got any suggestions ..

Hey Everyone, Just picked up i5 3740 on eBay and was looking for some motherboard suggestions. Looking at what's available in the 1155 family, it really seems to be more "function over form. They are, to put it bluntly, hideously ugly. I was wondering if anybody had a suggestions on a board that will work well, without a lot of crap I won't need or use, but still looks bangin' in my case. Thanks for the help y'all! ~Troptop~

I want to overclock an i5 3570k, should I go with a z68 motherboard with more features for a lower price or a z77 motherboard with less features at the same price? Would there be any difference if I used an older chipset (z68) over a newer one (z77)?

ok so i rebuilt the LAN PC again, now with a MATX motherboard and mostly the same parts, i didnt bother reinstalling windows because of time but the RAM im using is 2x2GB of ballistix 1600MHz CL8 and it showing up as 2x2GB 1036(or close to that)MHz but its only leting me use 2GB, i cant get into any sort of proper BIOS and all i have is a strange setup menue with barely any options.... im not really sure what to do seeing as the slower RAM i used to use but thats now in a PC im selling off seemed to work just fine, i could swap that over but then i would have worse RAM and i kind of want better RAM lol, so if anyone has any idea on how to solve this that would be awesome TL;DR: swapped motherboard, RAM is now only showing 1GB per stick and i cant find a proper BIOS to change things, what do i do? I have an old hp I'm putting together as a simple internet browsing machine for my parents. I bought a new heat sink from amazon that is supposed to be quiet. However, I'm not 100% sure it will work. I'll have to swap the actually fan from the aluminum it came with to fit and this isnt the issue. The issue is that someone on a different ltt board said that I could potentially fry my board. I have absolutely no experience with this stuff so be very descriptive please. Both use the 4 pin plug but that's all I really know. Attached a pic of mobo incase there is a number you can pull an answer from. Thanks guys (and or girls).

Hello. I have an I7-3770 and need a new or used gaming motherboard for socket LGA 1155. I don't have any budget really but would rather have a black coloured motherboard to fit in with the rest of my setup, so far I am looking at the ASRock > Z68 Extreme3 Gen3. Please leave any questions below and I will attempt to answer them as quickly as possible. Thanks, Bullzy.
