Hello everyone I’m new to this forum and i know that what I’m about to say is a bit old and everything but this is very important to me because i want all my saved OS/Data as save as they can be so I’ve had my LGA 775 PC running for awhile just fine and i recently decided to upgrade it so it could be a better temporary solution until i get a gaming build and an actual modern powerful PC so i started with the RAM it’s DDR2 but it only had 2GB so i bought unbuffered RAM 2x4 RAM sticks for a total of 8GB it worked fine but then all the troubles start from the CPU upgrade unfortunately I didn’t take precautions when it came to this but anyways i bought a Modded Xeon E5450 didn’t do any bios updates or anything but it already had the sticker adapter to convert 771 socket into 775, I installed it and replaced thermal paste everything was correct but afterwards my PC just started spinning with no display then I thought to myself okay it won’t work with my board so I’ll put back the old dual core CPU in, just when i did that my PC starts for 3 seconds then shuts off never posts and keeps going like that for a loop my PC is a DC 7800p Convertible Minitower the weird part is i tried almost everything including resetting the CMOS, replacing the battery with a new one, RAM is already new and known to be working also my motherboard light turns on all fans spin, error peep codes can sometimes trigger, Power supply works as well all of this tells me that my motherboard is in fact working so why isn’t it posting? I even bought a Quad Q9300 processor which also does the same thing the only difference is when i put the Unsupported Xeon back my PC stays on but with no beep codes or display now the question is what can i do to finally get it back to work on an original LGA 775 CPU?? im lost for ideas kindly someone help thanks!

Hey I recently got a new Dell server board for lga 771, but I need some coolers for the dual xeons (e5405), does any one know any cheap coolers, preferably under 15 dollars. Thank you for the help also does anyone know the PCIe gen used for that socket type.

What is the best and fastest cpu for the lga. 775/ 771 socket? I want to make a htpc / emulator build and I would like to have a Decent amount of cpu performance for pcsx2/ dolphin. Overclockable would be nice.

hey guys so i have a thing for old hardware and so my lan pc currently runs a gtx 480 watercooled with a q6600 2.9ghz. id like to use the 2nd identical 480 ive got (same aquagrafx480 block) and run them together because why the hell not i like the look of it. now i have the opportunity to get an Asus striker 2 ROG board for cheap and i really want it so i'm thinking of pairing that with some form of lga 771 xeon because current Q6600 is admittedly bottle necking 1 480 but screw the price of the high end C2Q's. this projects gonna be slooooow to finish because i have to buy a big ass power supply *fun* with my small amount of cash but for me it will be totally worth it even though i have an already much better pc (although with how much trouble its been giving me i might end up parting it out to fund this sli 480 rig xD) so anyway i found an E5504 for $10 (AUD) $10 and i also found an x5650 for a little more so does anyone know which is the better cpu and also if someone could give a list of the best xeons for the job so i can hunt the used market for them as well that would be fantastic. like i said before this pc is just thing i want to do i actually enjoy gaming on the single 480 q6600 pc more than i do my main far better pc idk why maybe just because its nice to see old hardware play games it said not to be able to but im rambling so yeah best lga 771 xeons give us a shout guys. Hey guys so im looking for a Xeon lga 771 for my Asus striker 2 formula and GTX 480 sli lan party pc becaus ethe current Q6600 woul bottleneck a single gtx 480 and the high end 775 cpu's are ridiculously priced so i found 2 different x5460's. one was totally normal however the other cpu had 2 notches cut out of it to fit straight into the 775 socket without the need to cut out the socket tabs that normally stop the 771 cpu going in the 775 board. is a dual LGA 771 the same as a single LGA 771???

just saw a video online on how to go about making a xeon processor work with lga775 i bought two of the motherboards mentioned in the title i checked to see if they were compatible with the x5450 and it says online that they are can anyone confirm this though? cheers

So I Have 2x X5460 clocked at 3.16 ghz and intel s5000pslsata motherboard. Is there anything I can do to overclock the cpu?

Hi, So I'm building a new pc for a friend on a budget, and I've decided on the parts: a Xeon X5450 modded to LGA 775, a GTX 550 Ti, but I'm not sure about the RAM; Does LGA 775/ That modded Xeon/ basically will that PC work with ECC Registered RAM or do I need regular DDR2, as its a lot cheaper for ECC RAM where I live. Hi, I need help: I spent dozens of hours searching for a dual socket lga771 motherboard that has a pcie x16 slot and does not require a proprietary PSU, or that i can find the power supply for cheap. I'm in Canada, and have a small budget: 70CAD for the motherboard and 20-30 bucks for a PSU (that's why I'm going used). I already have two Xeon E5420's, got them for 10 bucks. If it isn't worth it, tell me a better alternative (I would use the PC for emulation and gaming in general, I already have a graphics card)

First, would the xeon work in this mobo asus p5ql-e (with 771 to 775 mod) also what is the best xeon I could put in it, instead of Q9650 that I was going to do before I found out about the 771 to 775 mod.

so ive got 2 spare setups: LGA 771 X5460 modded to a 775 mobo and 8Gb of DDR2 (4x2gb) and A8 5600k, 8gb DDR3 (1x8gb) on a fairly decent overclocking Asrock mobo (cant remember model number right now) now the reason why i'm asking which is best is because i'm giving one of these setups to a friend so she can play some less demanding games (yes she will be getting GPU probs a 750ti or equivalent). I've used both setups in the past and overclocked both to as far as i could take them before limiting factors kicked in, X5460 @3.9 before ram max FSB kicked in and The A8 just got too toasty for me to be comfortable with but both yielded decent improvement from stock, if i remember correctly the X5460 performed better but i cant remember as i was using them at different points in time and that's why i'm asking here, does anybody have any actual evidence of which performs best? I've seen posts in which people are saying the X5460 is up there with the i3 2120 which i know for a fact is still very capable (friend of mine is running one in his main rig) and ive seen posts saying the A8 5600k is sort of just behind the i3 2120 so im just looking for evidence or first hand experience from people on which is best performing. NOTE: by less demanding games i'm referring to like: Half Life series, Doom 2k16 (which i know for a fact can run on a Q6600), life is strange Cheers.

Hey guys, just got my hands on this old server with dual 5110s @1.6 and I see some of the quad core X54xx and similar are running around 3.0 with twice as many cores. Just wondering which, if any of the quad core Xeons on the LGA771 socket would work.

Hey guys so i just finished building a spare pc out of some parts ive collected over the years which consists of: GTX 480 X5460 Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3R 8GB ddr2 800 now the problem is basically that the temperature for the X5460 isn't being read correctly by the bios or in fact most programs except for Aida64 which is confirmed to work fine even when the bios shows the wrong temp, the reason for this is because its an lga 771 cpu in an lga 775 mobo. the cpu is being shown by MSI afterburner as running at 80c in BF1 but actually when you check Aida64 its only running at 65c but i'm pretty certain that it's being thermal throttled because it isn't performing as well as it should (yes i'm aware its an old cpu but its not working as well as it's been proven to) so I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a way to disable thermal throttling since the CPU isn't actually overheating its temps are just being read wrong. by the way, this is with a F*ck off big tower cooler installed and yes it's been re-seated many times and tested to be the same each time.

So guys i have an hp workstation xw6400 with two xeon 5150s. The thing is they're slow and i am building a new computer but i wanna save this one from the bin. So i wanna place 2 Intel Xeon X5450s on their place. The question is will they work? No hate please!!!

I got this machine for free, with a Pentium E6500, no RAM, an NVidia GeForce GT 310 and no hard drive. The Vostro 230 with its compact chassis is powered by the G41 chipset, and features Gigabit Ethernet, 6 USB 2.0 ports, 5.1 Surround audio, a DVD drive and a SD-Card reader. You can pick these up for about 60-100 USD used, although the price heavily depends on the condition and the specs of the system. Intel Xeon E5420 The minimum CPU for GTA 5 is the Core 2 Quad Q6600. Our E5420 is one generation newer, and 100MHz faster, so it should have no problems playing the game. The CPUs 80W TDP should be no problem to cool for the stock 95W cooler. This CPU has been sitting on my desk for way to long, so it was about time for it to be installed in a system. You can get LGA 771 CPUs like this for around 25 USD. 8GB DDR3 1333MHz Although the minimum requirement for most games these days is 4GB or less, having 8GB is a nice luxury, especially if you want to have more than two tabs open in Google Chrome. 8GB was what I had in my RAM bag, and it happens to be the maximum amount of ram supported by the Vostro 230. You can get used OEM ram like this for around 20-30 USD. Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7750 2GB DDR3 I picked up this GPU at the local hardware store. The Radeon HD 7750 is based off a cut down version of the Cape Verde core. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon R7 250X with its 640 shaders, the Radeon HD 7750 has 512 shaders, so we can expect performance not to be too far behind the Radeon R7 250X. In addition, the Radeon HD 7750 draws all of its power from the PCIE slot, allowing us to use the stock PSU that came with the Vostro to save some money. I payed 600kr (approx. 70 USD) for this card new, but you could probably get a better deal on the used market. WD Blue 1TB This drive is nothing special, but it does its job of being the main storage device in this machine well, and I already had this drive lying around. Drives like this go for around 20-30 USD used. Total price (estimate): System: 60 USD CPU: 25 USD RAM: 25 USD GPU: 70 USD HDD: 20 USD Total: 200 USD I only purchased the GPU for this build, the other components were components I either got for free or already owned. Build: The build process was fairy straight forward, with the only major hiccup being the enormous amount of dust in the system, but after some dusting this was a non-issue and the building process could continue. The cooler was more than adequate, with temperatures never exceeding 55c during my testing, while staying very quiet. I was able to overclock the Radeon HD 7750s core to 950MHz with the power limit on +20 for good measure using MSI Afterburner but the memory on the other hand did not want to be overclocked at all. Hi im thinking of doing this mod, coz i saw a guy with x5460 + 960 getting massive improvement in CPU intensive games like CSGO. Right now i have Q9400 ( does not matter how far i overclock it still bottlenecks ). That mod is also cheap but the strip on the processor i cant find in my area, Im thinking of just putting tape on those specific points. Will this work? Also i dont have xeon processor i also looked all of them but im confused which one would be perfect for ASUS p5k-V motherboard. Please see the specific points of processor which im thinking of putting tape on. Thanks

I was looking what Linus did in his "Buget Gaming CPU" video, and I decided I would like to try this method of cheap CPU. The price is atractive, but couldn't find any information about those PCIE slots, and if it would work with someting like AMD R9 290/290x. If anyone knows anything about those components, it would be nice to suggest best option.

So I happen to have two Xeon 5440's laying around, as well as 32GB DDR2 RAM, a dual CPU, LGA 771 mobo, and a case and PSU. The one thing I'm missing to make a pretty awesome server is a couple coolers. Does anyone have any LGA 771 coolers that I could get cheaply?

I am building a PC either in the next few months or for Christmas, I have a PC on lga 775 platform, and I thought that I could buy a cheap x5460 or x5450 Processor and pair it with an GTX 760 and 8gb's of 800mhz DDR2 RAM using some mods (there is a tutorial on the forum). I would overclock this CPU and expect to gain performance in the neighbourhood of a fx 6300... Would my gtx 760 get bottlenecked or not? This seems very appealing since my whole upgrade counting in a new PSU would cost 200 bucks... Specs would be as follows: X5460 (or x5450) LGA 771 Xeon CPU Asus Am p5kpl-AM EPU Motherboard with 771 to 775 adapter (not included in the price) 8 GB Crucial 800MHZ DDR2 RAM Corsair TX650W PSU GTX 760 OC (not yet sure which brand) ASUS VentoAB case (I don't know if those even exist anymore) Seagate Barracuda 500GB Any help appreciated.

So, I have an itch for hardware tinkering and I want to build a second PC. But the one caveat is that I don't want current-gen components. I don't know why, but I've always wanted a CPU from the Core 2 Quad range with a motherboard, but I don't have an understanding of the chipsets and CPUs that will be able to help me make the proper choice. I'd really like a Core 2 Quad with a motherboard that can overclock and has DDR3 support, as I don't have any DDR2 laying around. Also, I would like to get a fairly priced cooler to go along with it. I am in the US of course, budget is set around $120 hopefully. What I need more than anything though is a crash course on the chipsets and SKUs of the time and what is worth the money, thank you in advance. Doing a little bit of Googling and I've only seen dual LGA 771 with DDR2 compatibility.
