Hey guys, I am building a cheap old server for a project, and I can't seem to get the right CPU coolers. The motherboard is a Dual Xeon e5-26xxx compatible Asus Z9PA-D8: https://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/motherboards_asustek/161373_2245_draft.jpg. This board has standard LGA-2011 sockets. I've tried several LGA-2011 coolers, for example: https://gelidsolutions.com/product/rev-5-tranq, but it seems that all of them require you to install their own backplate. The CPU backplates on this motherboard are not removable. I feel retarded. The main issue is that the screws that come with the coolers are too thin and/or too long, even though the retention mechanism does line up with the holes correctly. My memory is playing tricks on me. Is this because it's a server board? For example, the screws on this cooler look correct by the shape and relative size: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284658618446, and it specifically says it doesn't come with a backplate because your motherboard should already come with one. Other server coolers look correct too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314677372718. So what's the deal here? Are there two variants of coolers and motherboards for the LGA-2011 socket? Ones that require their own backplate, and ones that don't? I mean if that's the case, that just seems ridiculous. I don't feel like paying $80 bucks for a Nactua, but regardless, how would I know if an LGA-2011 cooler is actually compatible? Is there a specific cooler I need to look for? I don't mean a brand, I mean like a standard which is more than LGA-2011?

So I had an Intel core i7-6700k CPU, which is an lga2011v3 socket. I was excited when I found an Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard at a good price on Craigslist and couldn't wait to start my new build. However, the 6700K CPU does not fit that board. I was confused because all of the literature online says that the RVE is a 2011v3 board. I called Asus customer support and they, too, said it was a version 3 board. I was merely trying to make sure I didn't damage the board or the CPU trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. To further confuse the issue if you look at the board it very clearly is stamped "Lga 2011", NOT ""Lga 2011v3". I pointed this out to the customer service agent and he kept repeating what he was reading from the online product documentation. It was kind of crazy. I kept repeating to him that I understood what he was saying and that I had read the same product specs straight off from the Asus website but that I was looking at an actual real live motherboard and it was contradicting the official product info. We went round and round, back and forth and he would say he understood what I was saying but kept sending me a link to the Asus webpage for downloads for a board that I didn't have. I wasn't mad or anything, just perplexed as to what in the hell was going on. To be clear, I was a little miffed that I was going to have to buy another motherboard OR another CPU, finish the build and then sell the components that I didn't need, OR buy both a 2011 compatible CPU AND a 2011v3 compatible motherboard, and case and RAM and GPU etc .. So of course I go all in. I mean, who wouldn't?? So...long story...I thought that I was done with all of that until a friend was telling me I should've gotten a Xeon E5 2960 V2, which is supposed to be an lga 2011 socket type. But I just saw on Wikipedia it's an lga 2011v3 ??? I mean, WTF!!! These are simple questions. Is this CPU a 2011 or a V3? Same with the board. If they have different architectures and the CPU doesn't fit the socket then it's one and not the other. End of story. Why is this so hard for Asus and Intel two get this straight and why do I seem to be the first and only person to have encountered this problem?!? C'mon, people!!! Let's get it together!!! I swear to God, if I buy that Xeon CPU and it doesn't fit I'm going to be pissed off the entire time I'm building yet another computer that I don't need I mean this is getting ridiculous. I've already got four effing setups. I DO NOT want or need another computer!!!

I have looked for YouTube videos and I have looked on the American MegaTrends website, but I do not see any way to use these files to update the BIOS? If I CAN get this updated, can I actually expect this to speed-up the startup time to the POST screen? I don’t even know where to start with these BIOS files…

Heyo So I bought this Chinese mini ITX X99 board for a project I'm working on, and it claims to have an LGA 2011-3 socket (see attached image). However, all the googleing I can find says that those cutouts in the pin array are exclusive to Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge EP CPU's, which are the LGA 2011 socket, not LGA 2011-3. But, I bought an i7 3930k CPU for it, just to see if a LGA 2011 socketed CPU would work (It's a Sandy Bridge), but no, the keys are different. As they should be if it was a true LGA 2011-3 socket. But LGA 2011-3 socket CPU's don't have the pin cutouts, as far as I can tell. See attached images to look at what I'm talking about. The first one is the "LGA 2011-3 Socket," the second is the i7 I have, and the third is an actual 2011-3 chip (a Xeon E5-2530 V4) Bottom line, I need help figuring out what exactly I have and what I can do about it.

I have an Envinda X79-6M Motherboard (LGA 2011 - 0 ) and an Intel XEON E5-2690 CPU. It looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/2tYkWXX For the CPU Cooler, it comes with a plastic ring (looks a lot like AMD style) and four plastic screws. They look like this: https://imgur.com/a/upF7tXK -- I have a SYY 120MM CPU Cooling fan - ( S5-120-B ) - I bought it here: https://www.amazon.com/SYY-Heatpipes-Premium-Hydraulic-Bearing/dp/B098JHS395 The CPU cooler says it works with the LGA 2011 socket, but I see absolutely no way that this CPU Cooler will connect to the motherboard. I have no idea what is going on here. What am I missing? Do I need an AMD style CPU Cooler for this motherboard? If yes, what CPU Cooler will work with this motherboard? I am really coming up empty in my searches. Is there any way to use the SYY 120MM CPU Cooling fan - ( S5-120-B ) ?

I built a computer for my friend today. got it all assembled and when I went to boot it up it kept boot looping. I've tried seemingly everything I possibly could, reseating the ram, reseating the CPU, plugging and unplugging every single thing in the computer, taking out the wifi card and graphics card, and I cleared the cmos. I cant think of anything else I could possibly do. any help? So I'm putting together a cheap workstation PC. I have tons of parts lying around and was looking to get a x79 lga 2011 motherboard from eBay/AliExpress. My question is does quad channel vs dual-channel memory really make any difference? I have plenty of extra processors and RAM so the board just seems like an easy way to go. According to this ltt video it doesn't make a difference. Am I understanding it correctly? -

Hi everyone. My ASUS Rampage IV Extreme bit the dust with socket problems a few days ago. Brought it to a local repair shop and they tried to fix the pins but nothing worked sadly. So I've got a $500 paperweight and need a replacement. For fun I contacted ASUS to get a quote for repair but I am pretty sure it will be astronomical so I'm looking to the replacement avenue first. From what I see there's only eBay listings and some server boards around. My budget right now is tight but I also would prefer to avoid spending tons of money either way. Does anyone have recommendations for eBay sellers or know anywhere reputable where I can get this socket motherboard? Cheers and thanks for any help you can provide. Pour one out for the Rampage 4, poor old guy Edit: I've got 8 sticks of DDR3 so the best replacement would have 8 channels....but that's kinda unrealistic at my price point. but I can hope! -
Hi guys I have a quick question. I have a Pc with LGA 2011 P9X79 Pro Motherboard and an Xeon E5 1620 v2 in i. But i also have an i7-3770 processor lying around. I was wondering if i should switch those up. If so i might have to pay around 1200 SEK (swedish currency) to get the appropriate motherboard for it which is LGA 1155. So here is the simple question. is i7 3770 an upgrade to my gaming build E5 1620 v2 with Gtx 1060 6 GB? Is it any better then it?

I'm installing a x52 kraken aio on my msi z270 xpower titanium. I installed the back plate but I can't put the lga 2011standoffs into the front of the back plate. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hi, I am having some frustrating compatibilty issues, does anyone know how compatible Ivy Bridge and Sandy bridge are? All the documentation says that my motherboard should support myprocessor ( Thinkstations S30 motherboard, 1x8GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800R, Xeon E5-2680 v2 [so Ivy bridge EP] ) however I have since read that there may be incompatibilties. Is there a difference between them? Is LGA 2011-0 Version 1 (sandy) and LGA 2011-1 version 2 (ivy) only? both fit perfectly and pins all line up, cpu is suppported on the spec sheet, although there is a chacne the spec sheet is updated version and the older Sandy bridge variant was removed. Called lenovo, no help at all. IF these are not compatible and one is placed into ther other, is there any chance of damaging the CPU? Can a faulty PSU also damage a CPU? so many questions, sorry, but I'm trying to cover every possible problem for my system not working. Thanks for reading !!

Hi, I was wandering, is there any way you can damage either the CPU or motherboard if a Xeon E5-26xx VERSION 2 was put into a board designed for VERSION 1, and I know these are often compatible but not always, and maybe the BIOS had not been updated to accept the VERSION 2. To be clear they fit physically, perfectly, and all pins line up, and both are labelled as LGA 2011, but some boards specify 2011-0 or 2011-1 Any ideas/experiences appreciated Thanks -

Earlier this year Intel launched the 24-core Xeon E7 8894 v4 for the server platform on socket 2011-1 motherboards. Why would Intel recently be releasing CPU's for a platform 5 years old? Is it forwards compatible with LGA 2011-3 sockets or something?
