I have a problem with the fingerprint sensor on my laptop. The operating system behaves as if it does not exist and is not ready to set it. After updating the drivers, OS and firmware got me nowhere, I used Dell's troubleshooting software. In the end, after all else didn't work, I called their customer service, who told me to do the things I had already done. So I reinstalled OS and went to sleep. In the morning, the sensor still didn't work. I called them again, and after a few minutes of exchanging details on the computer, they referred me to local customer service, claiming that they would be able to resolve it. They were miserable. After over half an hour of conversation in which they asked me to change all kinds of settings in the bios that are not related at all and asked me if I even know how to install a fingerprint sensor in Windows, they had to seek help from those who really understand. After fifteen minutes of waiting on the line they said that there was nothing to be done about it and that apparently my computer simply does not have the fingerprint sensor. Of course, after that I checked, and I couldn't find any store in my country that sells it without the sensor, so I called them back, and after a moment they put it on hold, and two minutes later they hung up. The next time they did not transfer me to a service representative. The fourth time I called they answered and explained that there was nothing I could do and I had to go and replace the entire keyboard at their service center at my own expense, even though the warranty clearly also includes hardware issues that require replacing components. Just to clarify, the warranty package I have is the proservice. Does anyone have an idea what can be done?

I have updated the NVME SSD: swapped a HP EX900 500GB (no DRAM) to a Samsung PM981a 512GB (with DRAM). I have benchmarked the Samsung SSD on a Lenovo laptop and got speeds around +3000MB/s. On the Dell I get 1700MB/s and Crystal Disk Info shows "Negotiated transfer rate - PCIe 3.0 x2". The laptop is capable of PCIe 3.0 x4 as stated also "Highest Possible Transfer Rate - PCIe 3.0 x4". Troubleshooting: - Changed in BIOS from RAID to AHCI; - Clean reinstall Windows 11 in both RAID and AHCI separately; - Re-seated the SSD multiple times; - BIOS is using the latest firmware; - All drivers are up to date (checked with Dell Command Update, Dell Support Assist and on the website); How can I make the SSD run at this full speed on this laptop? Has anyone encountered this before?

I feel like a broken record at this point but, I once again am here to ask for support. Recently, I've been looking for a laptop, I have a pc but I find myself looking for something that I can work on since my pc is mainly used for ''wasting time''. The laptop would be used for coding, 3d design and trading (a lot of tabs..). I came across a good deal on a Dell Latitude 5430 with an i5 1245u, 16gbs of ddr4 3200Mhz, 256GB nvme SSD and it also has a neat touch screen. The processor in question has 10 cores 12 threads but only 2 are performance cores. I haven't come across a similar processor in my past and I was wondering if it's still good aka how does it compare to other processors in that price range. If anyone has any experience or any thought, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's the laptop link https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/latitude-5430-laptop/spd/latitude-5430-laptop/gctol5430usvp?redirectTo=SOC Currently on sale for around 700$

So, my school laptop. I can’t believe I’m doing a review on this. This laptop is fine, but not the best. It has a PENTIUM in it lol and it has UHD 605 iGPU, like bruh. Let’s talk about the pros of this laptop. It is decent for school work and can play Minecraft: Education Edition fine at like 8-12 chunks. It’s storage is the best thing lol. It has a 128GB M.2 SSD from Samsung. It is even NVME! It is actually a pretty fast SSD. The model is the PM991. The display is IPS, so good viewing angles, fine brightness for indoors. And decent speakers. The trackpad is not good, but a better one. Now the cons. It’s RAM is 4GB, like bruh. It’s DDR4-2400 RAM. The display is only 1368 x 768, so lower resolution. The webcam, let’s not talk about that. The processor is slow, iGPU is fine I guess. WiFi is, meh. This thing has Windows 10 Education, which is fine I guess. In conclusion, this laptop is good for school, not for gaming. Rating: 6.5/10. Need better processor and GPU!!!!

Hey, guys. I'm in a bit of a situation. So, I recently went and bought a Dell Latitude E6420. It's a laptop I always wanted and I wanted to buy it for a vacation I'm going on literally tomorrow. I was pretty excited as all the parts came in and I was able to finally get it all set up and plugged in! Only, when I went to power it on after installing all the upgrades? I got nothing. Zilch. Nada. The Power LED went on for a second, then went dark again. No whirring of the fans, no LEDs flashing, no signs of life. Nothing. Upgrades are as follows: CPU - Stock i5 ---> i7-2630QM RAM - SAMSUNG 4GB DDR3 (PC3-10600S) ---> A-TECH 2x8GB DDR3 (PC3-10600) Storage - None ---> 1x240GB INLAND PROFESSIONAL SSD, 1x1TB TOSHIBA 5400RPM HDD (replaced DVD Drive) Can ANYONE help me with this? I just want this laptop to work...

SOLVED: I succesfully turned it on with ctrl+esc and then the connecting my adapter. When I tried to turn it off with the button it didn't work, so the button is broken. I'm experiencing a problem with my Dell laptop. If i push the power button it doesn't react at all, it just stays off, I don't hear anything the power light is off and the screen is completely black. The only thing my laptop reacts to is when I charge the laptop, the light will go on then, but i still can't turn it on. I didn't damage my laptop or anything, it just suddenly can't turn on anymore. I already tried this method to try and turn on my laptop, it didn't work. Does anyone know what I have to do now to get my laptop running again.

Hi everyone, I have a Dell Latitude 7400 and I am using with a Dell P2418d monitor and having multiple cables connected to the laptop stated to annoy me so I've decided to buy a docking station for them. I've been searching for some nice docking stations and I found the Dell WD15 and the Dell TB16. These two seem to be great but I wonder if they will work fine with both my monitor and laptop. Altough, I've checked Dell's website to see if these docks support Win11 and I found out they don't so this got me curious if I buy one of them, will they work fine under Win11. So I would like to ask you if could these docks work fine with my devices and under WIn11?

Hi Tech Tippers, I've been trying to setup a mobile broadband connection on Ubuntu 16 on my Dell Latitude E7440, but can't find the correct drivers for it. Setting up a mobile connection does not display any mobile device I can use. I tried the built-in driver manager as well as Dell official site for drivers with no luck. Any suggestions on how to set it up? Thanks in advance - MrUnknown

Dell Latitude e5480/e5570/e5580 with eGPU?
sicily428 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi! i would like a lightweigt laptop with a thunderbolt3 port. i need a gpu nvidia quadro m4000 for my mechanical design so i would like to use an egpu. i'm watching for a dell latitude which have a cpu quadcore i7-6820hq/i7-7820hq. do you have infos about drivers/firmware of tb3 port in dell latitude e5480/e5570/e5580? do you know the compatibility with egpu like razer core, akitio node, powercolor devil box or asus xg station 2? i know that tb3 is x4 in these three models. do you know if somebody has already tried to connect latitude with egpus? -
Hi, I am looking to get a rugged/tough laptop for a trip I am doing in the summer; mainly to backup the photos and videos I will be taking. Therefore it just needs to run Windows or Linux and be able to transfer files. I am on a very tight budget of £100 ($130USD) so I am looking at used laptops. I am also interested in people's experiences with 'rugged' laptops. If there is a better solution feel free to suggest it. Thank you for the help!

In a recent turn of events my hopefully temporary laptop (The dell latitude E4310) may be in my bag for the next one and a half to two years now. It's not a terrible system, with 8gb (2x4) ram and a 120gb Kingston ssd i can stream games from my pc no problem and watch YouTube at 1080p 60 fps without dropping frames. My biggest complaint I've had since i first laid eyes on it was the display. in cheap dell laptop fashion it has a god awful 1024-768p tn display that occasionally makes me want to throw it out of a window. I've seen in multiple YouTube videos that you can buy ips upgrades for laptops and seeing how the latitude and inspiron laptops are pretty common i thought finding one wouldn't be an issue. I was wrong, I've searched every site i know for an ips upgrade without any luck. Does anyone know where i can find one? how would this affect my already abysmal battery?

So I've had an old Dell laptop for school for years now. not fast in the slightest, but the battery is good, the keyboard is nice and it runs Windows 10 just fine. One question I've had since I got the system was about this odd button right next to the power button. Any idea on what it does?

https://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/laptops/matthew-wilson/dell-is-selling-the-first-wireless-charging-laptop-but-the-convenience-will-cost-you/ Dell is planning to release the Latitude 7000 series this year featuring wireless charging technology. The first implementation of this will come in the form of the 12 inch Latitude 7285, which will actually be a tablet by default with the keyboard, which contains the charging technology, being sold as an optional extra. Later down the line they plan to sell the 7000 series as a 13 inch 2 in 1 product with keyboard included. As it stands, the tablet will set you back $1,199, but to add the WiTricity wireless charging tech you'll need to spend a further $549.99 on the keyboard, bringing the total to $1750. With the specs being an i5-7Y54, a 128GB SSD and 8GB of RAM, the price tag for me pushes this into the realm of nonsensical. Is $550 a worthwhile price for simply ditching the wire? And is wireless charging tech valuable in a laptop? I can see it being useful once the technology becomes more widespread, perhaps on trains and planes built into tables, but the way I use my laptop currently (usually in bed) the wire isn't really an issue.

IPS screen upgrade for Dell E7240?
TwentyOnePenguins posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hello there, so, bought a Dell E7240, but the TN screen isn't hitting very high on my list. Its actually quite painful for my eyes, which probably isn't a good thing, hence why I'm looking at replacing the panel. This has been done in the past, there is a forum post somewhere talking about it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/e7250-e7240-screen-upgrade-possibility-fhd-ips-matte.775211/page-7 Anyhow, I've been looking at the LG LP125WH2-SPM1 model of LCD on Ebay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-LP125...REEN-FOR-SALE-12-5-LCD-LAPTOP-UK/381134056408 ). However, when contacting the seller, they claim its not an IPS panel, which is strange to me, since from what I've been able to gather, there is only one model with this number, and its a IPS (AH-IPS). So, I really don't know if I've missed something or if the seller doesn't have their facts straight. Is there anyone here that has tried this, and/or know a IPS screen that works?Any help is appreciated! -
I'm trying to install a mobile networking card on my work laptop (Dell Latitude E7440). I bought the appropriate networking card for the laptop but only two antenna cables fit in the board, the black and white cables. The blue cable connector seems to be too small for the connection on the board. I pulled the SIM card out of my Dell tablet and stuck it in the laptop to see if it would work. The laptop now recognizes the SIM card and see's it's a Verizon Network but states there is no service. I have already tried installing the latest drivers from the dell website. I have installed the white cable on the MAIN connector and the black cable on the AUX connector. The cables were already installed from factory and there was an empty slot for this networking card. I am running Windows 10 (64 bit).

Hey everyone, I've been looking around at laptops as I plan on upgrading from my current Dell Latitude E5470 laptop at the end of they year, but there are some things I'm looking for that I haven't really been told about by any tech review sites, plus I can't try them out for myself as in Australia, many of the more desirable laptops aren't available for demo. I'm looking for a replacement for uni, light video editing may be done, light gaming as well, and I'm looking for something that has a keyboard like the Dell's (I LOVE the typing exerpience on this so anything similar or better would be great) + better battery life (around 7-8 hours roaming the web or watching videos, less is okay, but undesirable). Also money is no object. Thanks EDIT 2: Took off Razer Blade as Gigabyte is just better overall and they're in the same class and took off Dell XPS 15 for thermal issues. Nailed it down to either: -Huawei MateBook X Pro (really like this one, but doesn't have enough ports in my eyes, plus support would probably be bad in Australia, and heard shipping costs are insane) -Gigabyte Aero 15X (has the power, ports and supposedly a good battery life and thermals, just worried about typing and trackpad experience, also no touchscreen) -LG Gram 15 2018 (love the battery life and portability on this, but disappointed by the thunderbolt usage and use of real estate within the chasis. I'd rather have built in graphics or better speakers and have it be slightly heavier at that size) -ThinkPad T480S (new one, don't know too much about it, but looks good. Only initial problems seem to be lackluster screen and just dated look overall in my eyes) Also considering just upgrading as much as possible in the Dell Latitude instead, I wouldn't know exactly what I could do in that regard or whether I should tho compared to purchasing a new laptop so if anyone has any tips, let me know

Ok so I was just wondering about a project that I have been working on for a while . It's a dell latitude e5430 that now has a samsung 860 evo 250gb , 16gb ddr3 1866mhz and an i5 3210m . now the cpu seems to be upgradeable to an i7 3540m and maybe an i7 3632qm . what i would like to know is if this upgrade would be sensible and whether or not one or both cpu's would work or wheter or not the upgrade is worth it. the os is windows 10 pro 64 bit

I have a dell Latitude D830 with a core 2 duo T8300, I want to upgrade that cpu, what other cpus would work on this machine (that are better than the T8300)? I tried looking but found no graphs that compare c2d mobile processors. Thank you for your time.

So I got this Dell Latitude C610 and every single time I boot it I must type a password in order to get through. Currently, I'm using it for installing various operating systems and basically having fun with it. But typing that password each time is a real pain in the ass. In order to unlock it, I need some old password it asks for which nobody knows. Dell support are clueless. Is there anything in this world that can help me get it or bypass it?? I'm not planning on trying to fiddle with the EEFPROM chip. Knowing my luck ill probably fry the motherboard. Whoever can give me some kind of info I would be grateful!

Amazon: http://geni.us/2qSd NCIX: http://bit.ly/1LBfvpw It looks like Dell got a bit sick of me always sticking their laptops out in the rain... So they sent the rugged beast of the Latitude 12 our way!
