Hello friends, I need your help with a difficult choice regarding a projector. I'll explain in more detail. I am part of an art association that manages an ancient salt warehouse (15th century) in Venice. We are activists who participate in the life of the space totally voluntarily, and our association has been active now since way back in 2007. Money and equipment have always been tight, but in the last year we have managed to save a little treasure to finally make a well-deserved upgrade to our projector. Now we come to the tech tips. We need a 4k video projector, laser, with good color spectrum fidelity, and that can possibly fit within a budget of 1.5/2.5k euros. At the moment our screen on which we project, has a size of about 400 cm in length, for a diagonal of approximately 180/190 inches. we will prefere to use a ceiling mount, so no laser tv or Ultra Short Throw. Mainly the projector will be used for film projections, in very low light conditions ( the space can be easily darkened) or presentation or events with a little more light, but no sun light in the space. obviously a more professional solution would have fulfilled our needs easily, but being a Nonprofit organization and living in one of the most beautiful, but unfortunately expensive cities in the world, there is not much left to invest in equipment. also as a complication, not all models are available in Europe. For example, I had my eye on the BenQ HT4550i, but it seems to be unavailable in italy at the moment. so these are my choices of projectors available on the market ( and relatively off-the-shelf. I need it for an event in 1 month) : Optoma UHZ66 LG CineBeam HU710PW BenQ TK700STi Hisense C1 what do you think? do you have any other suggestions, tips or solutions to offer? I leave attached a photo of the space. If you need more data or details, please do not hesitate to ask! Thank you in advance for your help! Ciao Davide

I'm designing a PDF. While nothing has been mentioned to me about scale, a part of me can't shake the question of efficiency as cost cutting. Saving on ink. In my mind and thus reflected in the design, I've swapped out most of the black with greys, turned all the colours into pastel versions and swapped out black text for white where the contrast against the pastels colours is still great enough that white is seeable. From a bright intoxicating blue to a grey with a shade of blue. Is this all in vain? Well the trying to save on the ink part, cause pastel colours definitely make the document easier on the eyes. Are these changes worth it for the ink, 10 sheets on a slow day and 100+ on a busy day (A4 and A3 sheets), or am I literraly saving a penny or two a year by going light on the colours.

Hi, My family have a sheet metal company and I wanted to try laser/punch my own case as some sff cases like the velka are hard to get due to delivery fees I have been searching online but most itx and sff cases are for 3D printing. I was wondering if anyone had done something similar already and what options they had found? I’m interested in the designs such as the velka 3/5 as well as the some of the more ali express cases like Acat s1 or the sgpc k39 TIA

Currently, I'm using a HP LaserJet Pro M102a which is a Black & White Laser printer and nothing more. However, I'm sorely missing having scanning functionality and colour printing would be much better at home than going to some shop and paying an exorbitant price. I've heard raving reviews about Brother Printers and I'm in the market for one, I'm not afraid to look for used ones as well. The printer should have: Scanning Functionality (dealbreaker) Colour printing (dealbreaker) wireless (optional, would be nice to have but not necessary) laser (ofc) I thank ye in advcance

I own a 60W C02 Laser from China. As the technology increases we see more of this technology becoming more affordable and widely available, like GlowForge. I know your team has some machinist and maybe they would love this idea. Im looking for alternative routes to keep my laser cool. It is already liquid cooled as most are, however, it is archaic tech. Most use "water chillers" some use a bucket with distilled water and freeze packs. I think maybe since water cooling PCs are hit or miss, maybe the gaming community can use PC parts on an industrial laser to keep it water cooled to spec. Would make for a great episode, plus your guys get something cool for the shop and then someone with proper equipment knowledge and ability to explain why or why not this would work can answer my question, it is possible? Or at least build an RGB GAMING *said in linus's gamer voice* c02 laser

In Norway, salmon farming is a multi billion dollar industry. The salmon are cultivated in closed off areas out in the sea. However, among other threats to the fish, there is a little animal creating havoc: The sea louse. Yeah, you read that right: Salmon can get lice. And just like on humans, they feed on the fish. To combat this, a Norwegian company called Beck Engineering, a company with expertise in ocean farming, has developed an underwater drone to combat this issue. Yes, a freaking underwater laser drone shoots and kills the lice, as the fish swim past, not noticing anything. No manual check of the fish, no stress or harm to the fish. A fully automated laser armed killer drone. The US army just collectively bust a nut! Source: http://spectrum.ieee.org/semiconductors/optoelectronics/licehunting-underwater-drone-protects-salmon-with-lasers http://www.stingray.no/page/6001/Optisk_avlusing What I think: This is some next gen stuff right there. A freaking underwater drone armed with a laser, that shoots moving targets on living creatures. It's pretty damn awesome. Surely it will improve the health of the fish, and in the end result in higher quality food as well.

Hey guys. I'm thinking of getting a black and white laser printer in the near future, as the prices I have to pay for ink for my current printer are outrageous. I've heard that toner is more economical in the long-run, so I'm hoping to save some money. My budget is in the $100-200 range, so I'm not looking for anything fancy. Printing is really the only function I need, but scanning capabilities would be a welcomed addition. I'd also like the printer to have duplex printing capabilities (the thing that automatically prints double-sided). Since I don't spend my free time looking at printers, I don't know which brands are reputable and which ones I should avoid. If someone could inform me about the reputability of printing brands that are out there, I'd appreciate that. Thanks!

Looking into the issues of Mamba vs G900, the resounding issue that really makes the difference seems to be the sensor on the Mamba being, well... Terrible. We know that Razer uses a perfect sensor on the newest Deathadder, optical rather than laser. Has anyone heard any rumours about them bringing out a 2017 Mamba with that sensor? What are the chances? Is it possible to get LTT's Edzel in on this thread to give his two cents? Even better, do you think we can persuade the LTT crew to use their inside influence with Razer to at the very least make sure they know there are people out there (Many people, google it) who REALLY WANT THIS?

In an article I first read on Engadget then followed up on Phys.org, researchers at Macquarie University have provided a method for combining multiple lasers into a single beam to multiply the power output. From the Phys.org article: https://phys.org/news/2017-04-star-wars-superlaser-longer-sci-fi.html https://www.engadget.com/2017/04/03/scientists-develop-death-star-like-laser/ I can definitely see some of the applications for this, especially if as the article states, the diamonds rapidly dissipate the waste heat, allowing for multiple low power lasers to operate in a more rapid procession. Of course this also means that any 'Rebel Scum' out there may need to watch out for rogue Space Stations ... Have to say this is another case of why I love science!

Hello all, I was thinking about cutting a large square out of my pc case's side panel. My school's DT department has a laser cutter and I could most likely get the cut done to near free. I was wondering any consequences or potential risks which could cause issue. How easily is it done and should I do it? I don't own a cutting saw or anything so I couldn't do it myself Thanks for any help Will

I just watched the Pixel 2 review and noticed the Lasersaur in the background! I want deets, when did y'all start the build? How is it going? What do you think of the software? Also check out the build of a Lasersaur some friends and I did at the Dallas Makerspace in 2015: https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Lasersaur_Laser_Cutter

So in a few months I'm going to be doing a build in an NZXT s340 Elite, and I am currently taking an engineering class, in which we have access to laser cutter and such tools and machines. The teacher has told the class that glass can be engraved, and I don't see why tempered glass couldn't be as well. So I'm wondering if anyone has engraved a tempered glass side panel successfully that came out well. Thanks for the help.

I'm into my editing and competitive gaming, and since I started both of those, I was gifted a Razer Mamba Tournament Edition to use, letting me spend previous cash I had saved on new PC parts. Recently I've come into an issue where I assume, dust or hair is causing my mouse to spaz out when lifting up, and occasionally just not register anything at all for a brief moment. This is super frustrating. So I'm curious to how everyone stops this/prevents dust etc from affecting the laser.

So I haven't bought a mouse in years, over 5 years I've been using the same mouse that I bought. It's some Gigabyte extreme laser mouse. It's really worn out and I want to replace it, but to my surprise I can't find laser mice anymore. I mean I can, but they're very rare. What happened? Years ago laser mice were the best, the most accurate, the highest dpi, dpi changing on the fly, etc. Now I can only find optical mice which back in the day where decent at best, most were barely any better than the ball mice. Did the optical technology caught up to the laser one and even surpassed it or lasers are just to expensive so everyone just went back to optical because it's cheaper to produce?

Hello, I want to know which is more worth it from an efficiency and stability standpoint: laser printer or an inkjet with an ink tank system? Which type of printer has a greater tendency to break down more often or which one has more maintenance issues? I plan to print lots of text files and pictures, not necessarily photos, its actually graphic novel quality pics (so cartoonish) and I'm expecting to print large volumes of prints. Thanks

Hi guys, I just want to know what the difference is between the Roccat Kone XTD laser and optical, what are the cons and pros

New laser technology promises a future of fiber optic speeds thousands of times what they are now. Using "Terahertz Quantum Cascade LASERs" and a new modulation method data throughput could theoretically improve dramatically in coming years. These lasers have been around for a while but were limited to more theoretical or scientific use with the limits assumed on the application of their beams. It was just too difficult to work them to the same level as far lower frequency lasers. Apparently most of the fuss is over the new method of modulation. Terahertz is a very tough frequency range to modulate for communication. but a new method has allowed them to verifiably and consistently modulate and pulse the lasers in a way that will allow vastly accelerated transmission of coherent data. Which could theoretically allow super fast long distance trunk lines. I would like to see more work done on this, super high frequency EM radiation has so many theoretical uses I really wanna see practical and commodity uses for these advanced technologies

I need your help looking for a color laser printer. I would like laser over inkjet as I would save money and frustration. Does anyone have any suggestions? I prefer the brand Brother as I have never had any trouble with them. I am looking for an ALL-IN-ONE. I was unsure where to post this topic so forgive me if it should be somewhere else. Thanks in advance.

I am having a time trying to find a PS/2 Laser mouse. I like the idea of it interrupting my CPU instead of the usb variant constantly being checked on by it. I would like to game with it. I also don't want a ball underneath that requires cleaning. Thanks in advance for any good leads!
