  1. Clevo Custom Laptops What is a custom laptop? It is a laptop in which you have the ability to choose how much RAM to put, to choose between what SSD / HDD or different panels, cpus and gpus. It is also useful to be able to take a barebone without disks and license. What's Clevo? Clevo is a Taiwanese ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) who designs and manufactures its products, gaming laptops or also high performance mobile workstations. Clevo also manufactures barebone cases for other OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and these OEMs fill these barebone cases with the necessary hardware. Most of the brands (Dell, Alienware, HP, Lenovo, Acer) use barebones made by ODM such as Quanta, Compal, Clevo and others. The use of desktop cpus on its products (N3xx, N6xx, W6xx, P7xx, P8xx) is a particular feature of this manufacturer, which also uses the MXM format gpus in the most powerful platforms (P7xx, P8xx). Other OEMs (Dell, Alienware, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Gigabyte, Aorus) use soldered cpu/gpu for their gaming laptops. (here more infos) Clevo does not market its products directly but it distributes them through a worldwide network of System Integrators and Resellers that rebrand them and customize them to the customer's taste. ( List of Clevo Resellers ) System Integrators such as Sager, Origin, XMG / Schenker, Metabox, Obsidian PC, Eurocom are among the most well-known in the world. 2. So I’ve been looking to buy the Razer Blade Stealth for daily driver as I like the looks, form factor and performance (at least for school oriented use). Recently razer just updated the site to include in the product description and choice tab to specify that the 13.3” model uses a dual-core processor. So I was wondering if you guys think this would be significant evidence that they are going to update to the newer 8th gen 8650u or 8550u processors. Especially given that they’ve had significant incentives added for the last month or two, it seems like they’re trying to either decrease their stock in prep for the update or just doing the regular razer thing of including a bunch of stuff with their products. Really looking for insight as I don’t want to have buyers remorse if they end up updating the model a week or two after I purchase a dual core model.
  3. hello everyone i have just bought an msi Raider ge63vr specs: i7 7700hq - gtx 1070 - 16 gb ddr4 2400 ram single stick - 256 ssd pci + 1tb hdd - windows 10 64bit i dont know why but everytime i press run as administrator on a program the mouse freezes for a second it happens even somewhere else but i didnt figure out the event triggering this phenomenon actually it doesnt freeze cause you are still moving the cursor but you see the movement blocked for like 1 second and then it gets back to normal showing you where it did go could it be due to the monitor that is 120hz ? by the way i already tried resetting the laptop with windows -> settings -> security -> restore but it didnt work and i downloaded the latest cpu and gpu drivers i just noticed that if i have OBS studio recording the screen, that i was trying to do to let you see with your eyes the issue, the problem magically disappears hope you guys can help me
  4. Hey all! I failed to buy a reliable laptop the past 2 times, where 1 just wasn't a good build (MSI GT70) and my current laptop (ASUS U501UX) has such a horrible display, it's useless for any color work. So I'm hoping you guys can help I'll be mainly using the Office Suite, various Adobe programs (mainly Photoshop) and CAD software (Solidworks). So I'm looking for a laptop with pretty good specs (i5/i7 and maybe a dedicated GPU, not sure how much difference that makes), but especially: - A good display (Full HD is fine, color accuracy is more important) - Solid build (it will be carried around daily, and sometimes used in the train) I would also like an SSD and a HDD, but I understand that maybe only an SSD is possible. It should be fine as I have a portable harddrive anyway. Budget: Preferrably under 1000 euros I am also looking into buying used, so recommending older models is fine too! So far I fell in love with the XPS 15, but it's kind of out of my preffered price range. All suggestions are very much appreciated!!! -Kaasgeelheid
  5. so today i was dissasembling my thinkpad T410 i bought secondhand for 50 bucks because i needed a laptop for studies (dont worry. its not the pc i use for gaming... thankfully). and i came across a weird unused connector on the motherboard. it looks fairly similar to the connectors lenovo used for the keyboard and trackpad. but it wasnt connected... so whats this connector used for? it doesnt seem to be used in the current assembly of the laptop but since it might have a use id like to know what that use is since im trying to get it to be as good at as many different things as possible since its going to be my only way of doing basically anything when im visiting murica in a couple months.
  6. Hello guys! Previously, I planned to buy a PC Tower for my college uses. I'm an Architecture student and I'm planning to use it mainly for Archicad, Autocad, Cinema4D Rendering, and Sketchup. But suddenly my 2011 MacBook Pro start failing on me, the wifi Won't work, The DVD player wouldn't Eject, and now it starts to shut down randomly without no reason. So I changed my plan from buying a PC to a Laptop. Because I need the portability of a laptop, I need a laptop that i can bring to my class, I can ring it to my friend place for Project collaboration, and other. Currently, I'm Considering a Second Hand Alienware 15 R3 with 7700HQ with Nvidia 1070 for 24.000.000,00 IDR (I'm located In Indonesia)/ 2299,00 CAD. Remember, here in Indonesia computer prices are very high a base list Alienware 15R with 1060 can cost 35.000.000,00 IDR. or my backup plan, if the unit isn't available anymore, is to buy an ASUS ROG GL502VM with 1060 for the same price. My Current problem or confusion is the laptop still worth it? or should I wait for Coffee-Lake? My Program mainly uses processors, So processor performance is a very big consideration value. I haven't heard any leak/information for Coffee lake performance laptop processor, but looking at the desktop side there should be a performance bump for Coffee-lake. So should I take the Alienware 15 R3 with 7700HQ and 1070? or wait for Coffee-lake Performance Laptop? Thanks! Best Regards, Adhie
  7. HDD caddy for laptop

Hi, Can anybody recommend a good hard drive caddy for Acer Aspire E15 E5-574g-52qu? It should be such that it doesn't leave any gap for dust and stuff. The ones I found aren't a snug fit.
  8. I haven’t had this laptop for long, but I think I can provide a pretty comprehensive review of what it’s actually like to live with this laptop. Yes there are plenty of reviews on laptop sites that sing the Yoga 720’s praises, and for good reason. But let’s face it. These guys that are reviewing these machines are not real consumers. They’re nerds, yes, but they’re just providing an overview of a laptop they got on loan. They didn’t have to shell out their own cash on this machine. They didn’t have to do extensive research before choosing this one over any other. That being said, let’s get started. The other day, I was shopping around at our local Best Buy for a laptop for school. The standard items were on my shopping list. Not too big, but not too small Good battery life, somewhere around 8 hours or more Half decent CPU for CAD and video editing SSD IPS screen Light weight My dad wasn’t exactly impressed with buying a Lenovo, a company that the credit card fraud analyst had never heard of, but I assured him that Lenovo knows what they are doing when it comes to building a productivity laptop. And oh boy do they. Everyone knows Lenovo for the ugly business laptops with the nipple in the middle of the keyboard, but they have certainly upped the sex appeal of their brand. The Yoga 720 embraces modern and sleek design with simple lines on a nice aluminum body. The build feels nice. There isn’t much flex to the case and they clearly use some high quality materials. The hinge isn't quite a one finger design, but I can't detect any drastic wobble, so that's not bad. And oh my god that screen. Now maybe I'm just so impressed by this guy because both of the panels I've been using on my desktop are okayish TN panels, but this IPS display is gorgeous. 1080p at 13.3 inches gives it a nice PPI, but the colors are just amazing. Only downsides of this screen is that it doesn't get that bright, and it's a touch screen. The fact that it's a touch screen isn't that big of a deal, but I think it's a gimmick. A side effect is that the screen is glossy which of course makes it one hell of a finger print magnet. However, I like glossy screens on IPS panels. I think it makes the colors look even better and allows them to pop even more. The bezels aren't bad either. The top, left, and right bezels are nice and thin, about 1/4" I think, but the button bezel is healthy. But I don't mind that. The fact that the rest of the bezels are so slim distracts from the thiccccc one on bottom and I really don't mind the design. As a side effect, it raises your taskbar a little closer to what you're working on so you don't have to shift your eyes as far I think the pros out weigh the cons on the screen. I can't really complain about all that much. Yes finger prints are annoying, but it just looks so damn good that I can't really complain. Update: I disabled the touch screen in device manager which prevents the screen from freaking out when I want to clean it. I've also gotten better at not touching the screen, but dust and other particles are still very noticeable. Also getting fingerprints on the top bezels is impossible to avoid because there's nothing else for your finger to grab on to to open the laptop. Not that big of a deal, but I still carry a microfiber cloth with me to clean the screen once a week or so. I'd like to move on to this glorious keyboard. Lenovo's extensive experience in business machines really shines through on this guy. The keyboard travel is a little shorter than your average laptop, but just something about it feels amazing. I feel like my fingers are like precision sports shooters, darting around the keys at insane speed with high accuracy. The keystroke is a tiny bit heavier than your average Apple laptop, but the short travel distance allows you to fly across the keys. The backlighting is a nice touch, in a cool white, but I found that on my unit, the J, K, and L keys are noticeably dimmer than the rest. No biggy, I don't look at the keys when I type anyway, and if it bugs me, I can turn it off. The backlit keys have three settings, low, high, and off. There isn't much difference between low and high, but there's a nice, gradual fade between each setting when you hit FN+SPACE to toggle through the modes. It's not a requirement in a laptop for me, but it makes the machine look and feel more premium to see that ever so subtle glow. But like, I can't convey how much I love this keyboard. At my desk, I have a TKL Cherry mx blue board that I've been using for about 5 years. I instantly felt at home on the Yoga's board, getting rather close to my usual typing speed of 75wpm on my first typing test. The keyboard is honestly what sold me on this machine. It's simply a joy to type on. It's not very loud, but it just feeeeeeellllllssss so good. Update: After about three months with the laptop, I have noticed that the backlight is completely unnoticeable in any environment where there is even a modicum of light. In a dark room, it's a nice glow, but the two brightness settings are dim, and slightly dimmer. I think I'll just keep it off unless I'm in the dark and I need special characters or something. Touch typing FTW I am writing this next part of the review after the honeymoon euphoria has worn off. As mentioned in the last update, I have been using this machine for school for about 3 months now. I must say that the battery life is disappointing. As I write this, I simply had my laptop open in chrome for an hour (with four tabs) occasionally browsing the forums or copying a quote from my hilarious econ teacher around once every 10 minutes, then it sat in my bag for an hour, now after about another 15 minutes of use in Chrome, I am down to 75%. That's with power saver on and the brightness at 70%. This is problematic. As I mentioned earlier, the IPS panel doesn't get very bright at 100%, so 70% is just dim. Also I feel that I shouldn't have to turn on the power saver mode to get barely reasonable battery performance. SMH. Yesterday, with a similar load, but with a couple hours of photo editing in Light Room, I made it down to 20% by the end of the day. This laptop uses a USB C port to charge, which is awesome, but you need the 45w power adapter to put any power into the machine in a reasonable amount of time. An hour on a Qualcom Quickcharge 2.0 adapter I carry with me for my phone puts in around 5-7%. Also, I tried charging the laptop of a power bank at 10W and was unsusccessful. The laptop would just not accept charge. Maybe it was the fault of the cable, but this is my experience. It would take power for about 5 seconds, then the charge light would go out and the battery status would read "plugged in, not charging". RIP. Performance leaves a little bit to be desired. I know I bought a thin and light, not a desktop replacement, but the 4gb RAM model was a mistake. I think my expectations were a little high for the 7200u, but rendering in Premiere kinda sucks on here. It's not bad, but it's time consuming. Lastly, why the hell isn't there an SD card reader? Like, not even a micro SD, there's just nothing. That was really disappointing when I brought this and my camera on a trip. Luckily, my phone has a micro SD reader, so I transferred photos to there, then to the computer. I really would have liked to see a card reader on here and a little more I/O, 1 USB 3 type A, one 3.0 type C, and one Thunderbolt 3. A bit disappointing, but I fortunately have't needed more than that. So conclusion time. Overall, I am very impressed with what Lenovo has brought to the table in this mid range ultrabook bracket. While this isn't the top end model, this Yoga 720 does everything I ask of it with moderate competence and looks damn fine while doing it. I probably ask too much of it when I decide it's a great idea to try to get some work done on that video project I have going on, but the it's glorious in the classroom. The keyboard is just such a joy to dance across, and the glossy IPS screen delivers a beautiful picture, though it could be brighter. However, you will have to start carrying the charger, a microfiber cloth, and some USB (A and C) adapters if you want to get some real productivity out of it for a whole day or more. Unless you're one of those people that actually uses the touch screen on a laptop, I recommend turning the touch screen off, but if all of that isn't enough to dissuade you, I highly recommend this machine to just about everyone.
  9. My laptop has had its second hard drive failure. I am done with fixing it. I have 1500 cad (1200 usd) maximum to spend on a laptop. I don't really care about form factor. I will use for video editing and Photoshop, light gaming.
  10. Hey there. I'm looking for a new laptop, but not necessarily a new "just launched" one; anything 2016-2017 is good. I'll be using it for the majority of the time for photo and probably video editing, so a 4K IPS panel would be a priority. I do enjoy gaming, but I've already got a GTX 1080 in my desktop, so anything that can run new-ish games at 60 fps and at 1080p high (not necessarily Ultra) settings is golden. I'm a sucker for the gamer aesthetic, and all the RGB (backlit keyboard is a must). My tentative budget is $1000-$1500 but no more. Many thanks beforehand to everyone who can help.
  11. I am looking to upgrade the wireless card in my laptop and I was looking at the Intel 8265 card but it seems to be discontinued and difficult to buy (in Canada). After doing some research I saw the Intel 9260 was unveiled back in spring of 2017, and was supposed to be released in Q4 of 2017. According to the Intel website, the card has launched but I can't find any information about it past the initial release and specs sheets. Anyone know anything about it, heard any news or sources of where to buy it? Would really like the new features in it (BT 5.0, etc.) Here is the specs page for it, it says it was launched. (To add, the status of the launch matches that of something like the 8th gen i series processors, which you can buy. Which is why I find it odd I can't even find it listed on any sites at all, let alone being able to buy one).
  12. Reccomend!?

  14. Laptops, gaming or not?

Hello good folks! I am face to face with a conundrum, I am in the market of a laptop that can handle the following: Light photoshop (or lightroom) Light gaming (no max settings on witcher 3 for example.) 3D work in autodesk Maya or in the likes. I am however more interested in what personal experiences you people have and where your preferences lie when it comes to laptops. The price in this case is irrelevant as I wonder, what is it about "regular laptops" and what makes them stand out from their "gaming" cousins. From all I've seen so far gaming laptops often comes with more impressive specs at the equivalent price to the "regular" ones. What is it that makes them equal? Are gaming laptops made from shoddy material that break easily? Are they heavy and clunky, hence the price? Perhaps the regular laptops have a more efficient cooling solution? Or maybe gaming laptops have come so far nowadays that they are competing with their no-"ROGBLADERGB" counterparts? I am curious as I can't seem to find any answers when looking at the specs alone, which leaves me in the dark. Also, are ASUS any good nowadays? (I've been warned) Thank you! Regards /Face (Also if you have any advice on a laptop for roughly 1000usd, 14000sek, I would be thankful.)
  15. Alright, I have been looking for a suitable replacement for my beloved MacBook Air, which is dying as I type this. I need a laptop that is capable of 1080p gaming at high settings, but also run CAD like Autodesk Inventor. So far, I have settled on the Aero 15 for its battery life, understated looks, display, GTX 1060, and upgradability. I plan on having XoticPC upgrade the ssd to a 960 evo 512gb. I would like to hear from Aero 14/15 owners on how their experience has been, if there is any throttling, build quality (say what you want about apple, but their build quality is stellar, and i dont want to downgrade too much), how reliable the laptops are, if you've had to deal with gigabyte support, and if there is anything else i should know about the laptop. I would also like to hear from people who have bought from XoticPC, how the support is, quality of service, etc. I know someone will tell me to build a desktop, so I will address that right now. I need a laptop to take to school and for CAD. A desktop wont do that. I need to take the full performance with me. So please, share with me your thoughts on the aero 15 and XoticPC.
  16. Current Shortlist : https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/c/ref=navm_hdr_cart Also is the Quad HD+ screen worth the extra money and processor downgrade on the Zenbook. I am pretty sure all screens will be miles nicer than my old laptop. Any other issues with these laptops? Portability is not key but since it would be used on the lap lightness would be good. Less I/O would be fantastic since I rarely use them and they end up collecting dust and spoiling the motherboard. My Required Specs for further recommendations if any. Primary use : Web browsing and heavy Video watching and some word documents and rarely, light games like fifa 14. Processor : I think the latest core i5 7th or 8th Gen is enough. GPU : None Intel Integrated Graphics is sufficient Internal storage : 256 gb ssd Os: Windows 10 Ram : 8gb Connectivity : Audio port, Wi-Fi AC, Bluetooth, USB 3 and Thunderbolt or USB type-C(Not Required). Screen : 13 to 16 inches, atleast full HD resolution. Quad HD would be cool. Battery : I won't be using it at all outside my house so around 4 hours of battery life is enough but it should charge up fast. Build Quality, Good Thermals and Reliability are important.
  17. Hi, I am a programmer and my macbook pro mid 2009 is dying. I am willing to spend around 1000 usd on a laptop but there are too many out there to decide. I need a laptop that can run vm's, edit videos and a bunch of other things. I would love to get a mac because build quality and battery life is really important to me as well. I don't really game that much, but I would like something that can at least do casual gaming. 21. Anyone know what happened to the Razer Core? I've been looking to purchase one to pair it with the stealth I am getting, but I can't find one anywhere except for a used on eBay for 400 bucks. Even on the Razer website, they are selling refurbished versions only and they are out of stock on those. Did they stop selling them or are they releasing a new version soon? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

  23. ASUS G752 M.2 Upgrade

Hello LTT Fam, My Asus G752 needs a storage upgrade, as the 1TB HDD is nearly full. So, I want to upgrade to a pair of M.2 drives since it can support this and a larger 2.5" HDD. I'd like to know some ways that I can get my OS moved from the HDD to the M.2 drives. I have found a 2.5" M.2 SSD dock that lets you mount two M.2 drives inside of it and convert them into a RAID 0 capable SATA drive, my question is if I can do this to transfer the content on the HDD to this (or at least the OS contents) since I have a dual SATA dock. I know that the docks copy function requires the 2nd drive to be equal or higher capacity than the source drive but I'm not sure if dual M.2 drives in a sata adapter would work as a single drive. If that method doesn't work, I'm open to another idea if anyone has one. Unless it ends up being the only means of doing so, I'd like to avoid a fresh OS install if at all possible, I know that this method would work but it would mean a full reinstall of all drivers needed for the laptop and all the games/extra bunk I already have on the machine as well. Thanks Fam.
  24. I need a 4K laptop for photo editing and to act as a mobile workstation.. any recommendations? cheaper the better preferably but i still want something fairly beefy..
  25. So I planned on using my old laptop till New Year came around but the motherboard died so I am looking for a new laptop. Any laptop available in Us is OK because I have a friend who will ship it to me. Primary use : Web browsing and Video watching and some word documents and rarely light games like fifa 14. Processor : I think the latest core i3 or i5 7th or 8th Gen is enough. GPU : None Intel Integrated Graphics is sufficient Internal storage : 256 gb ssd is enough for me even if it's a had I can switch it out later. More is better if it's cheap. Os: windows 10 Ram : 8gb Connectivity : Some audio port, Wi-Fi ac, any Bluetooth version and a few other ports such as USB 3 or thunderbolt or type-c either one. I don't require Ethernet card reader or hdmi or vga Screen : 14 to 16 inches a little deviation alright. Since I primarily use the laptop for media consumption a good panel with good contrast and atleast full HD resolution would be good. Quad HD would be good. Battery : I won't be using it at all outside my house so around 4 hours of battery life is enough but it should charge up atleast as fast as it drains. Final shortlist: Acer Swift 5 Lenovo Yoga 720 ASUS ZenBook UX330UA-AH5Q
