I'm in a bit of a pickle. I don't want to pay more than I have to but I'm really concerned about how to upgrade it. I find out I have M471A2K43CB1-CTD Samsung 16GB SODIMM. I found same model from a internet vendor yet I'm a bit concerned about if it can lead any problems when I install it. I haven't bought it yet so I want to ask If it could lead to any problems. If it can I would prefer buying a 32GB set from a different brand. What do you think?

I've gotten a hand me down Hp Probook 450 G4 on my hands with an i7 7500u 250Gb SATA SSD, and 8Gb of ddr4 2133 MHz ram, My question is does it make more sense to get a 500gb-1tb NVME drive or get an additional 8gb of ram. Some context: I am a Uni student and not rarely do i find myself with 10+ tabs open while looking things up, but I also like to play lightweight games on the side such as Terraria, Minecraft(modded as much as i can get away with), WoW classic, League of legends etc. And I've found myself running short on both ram and storage lately, I will likely upgrade both, but which should I upgrade first given that money is kind of hard to come by right now. P.S. The reason i want to get an NVME drive as opposed to a SATA one is because i have a spare Laptop Hard drive but not a spare Sata slot to plug it in to.

I have a 3-year-old laptop which is slow bluescreens 3-4 times when I sign into it. I am planning to wipe it, upgrade the RAM and hopefully put an SSD in the disk drive slot? You see my laptop has a slot in the side where I could put a disk drive in but instead, I want to put an SSD in its place so I can have a 500GB HHD and a 120GB SSD For OS. Don't Disk drives run on SATA the same as SSD's? So this will Work?

Hi guys, I'd like to start out by saying I know nothing about building PC's and really anything about PC's in general. A couple years back I bought a MSI GP70 2PE Leopard gaming laptop to mostly play World of Tanks on. When I bought it it was a huge upgrade and made it much more fun to play the game at decent settings and frame rate. Now, I can hardly play the game at any decent setting/frame rate combo. I have the I5 processor and 8gb of ram. These are great and have never had an issue with games or running ARC GIS and Photoshop. The nividia 840M is my biggest issue. I looked into upgrading it and from what I have seen that is out of the question which is a shame. I also looked into overclocking for a short term boost, but it sounds like nividia has removed the ability to overclock "M" GPU's. If anyone has any suggestions into milking some more performance from this laptop it would be appreciated. If not, I will attempt to sell it to get some basic 15" notebook to use for notes and browsing YouTube & Netflix so I can invest my time and cash into building a Desktop. Currently I have begun playing with the idea of building a PC (with a friends help since I know literally nothing). My budget would be under $800. I would like to be able to run ram intensive programs like ARC GIS as this desktop will likely double as a workstation when I enter the workforce. I would like to be able to play games at 1080 at decent graphics settings. I do not know if this price range would allow for me to run games like Far Cry 4 at ultra in 1080 or not since I have heard things saying yes and some saying no. Like I said before, I do mostly play World of Tanks and I assume nearly any current $800 desktop could max this games graphics in 1080. What has peaked my interest is the XFX RX 460 card recently reviewed. Would this be something that would be good for this price range of build? Also would it be cheaper to buy two older cards and run them in SLI? I am planning to try and get as many of the parts as possible for this build on Cyber Monday to hopefully save some money as I am a nearly broke college student who needs to pay for textbooks and ramen noodles. This price would need to include a display and keyboard which do not need to be flashy but simply do the job. If any of you have done recent builds of this price range or have compiled build lists recently I would much appreciate it. I just know I need to buy the basics (GPU,CPU, motherboard, HDD, and case) and do not know what I need to buy past that. So any of the smaller bits needed would be helpful also so I do not run into issues with this when I begin to build. Any help would be very much appreciated, Neil

Hi Guys, I have a HP Omen 15-dc0022na. I'm looking around at external GPU enclosures and it's really not clear whether the enclosures I've been looking at are compatible with the Omen. The Razer Core X seems to be the best lead but I know they're pretty hit and miss as to whether they'll actually work with 3rd Party Brands. Any recommendations guys? Many thanks, John

So I'm planning on buying this ASUS laptop and it comes with a single 16gb stick of ram. Dual channel is ideal for gaming so I'm planning on also getting an extra 8gb stick of ram that's the same speed, and I was wondering if it was compatible. I know sometimes system manufacturers will try to lock stuff down to only use their ram for some reason so I just wanted to confirm that this would work before I waste money on ram I can't use. Thanks!! How viable is it to buy a new motherboard for around $700. And swap it with a laptop with the same chasis. Since dell xps laptops have the same chasis for like 3 years this seems a good option. Anyone got experience with this ?

Hi, I am new to the forums. I have a really old laptop- a Samsung NT300V5A-A16B. I think I got it in like 2011 or so. It's running a Pentium B950, 8GB of DDR3 ram @1600mhz (originally had 4GB), and a painfully slow HM641JI hard drive. The laptop was extremely slow, and I mean really! It took 40 minutes to load into Windows and for all the icons to load. Opening a browser took 5 minutes. And if that's not enough, it also overheats. Since then, I've done a factory reset and cleaned the laptop. It still takes 10 minutes to load Windows, and a minute to open a browser. My parents want to use the laptop, but it is way too slow. I was very sure the hard drive was the problem, so I went ahead and bought a Crucial MX500 250GB SSD. Now here's a plot twist: The laptop screen is cracked and I cannot access the bios. The bios does not output to the TV via HDMI nor VGA. Normally I would plug the Windows Installation Media flash drive into the laptop and install Windows that way. But I have no way to boot from the flash drive since I don't have access to the bios. So instead, I used one of my other systems to install Windows onto the SSD. It went perfectly fine. I took the SSD out of the system and installed it onto the laptop. I booted it up, thinking it'll boot up fine. But no, for some reason the laptop screen turns on for half a second, goes blank for a second, and repeats. I have no clue why. So instead, I used a Sabrent 2.5" SATA Drive to USB 3.0 Adapter to connect the SSD to the laptop. I see output on the cracked screen, but there is no output on the TV. I tried using HDMI and VGA, with no success. At this point, I am completely clueless on what to do. Did I do something wrong? What should I do? Is there a way to display the BIOS to the TV? Or will this whole thing not work? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hello everyone, Thanks for coming to this post!! ( Need some Help) I got old Clevo laptop, and want to upgrade it to the max. ( i know it's not worth it), but its my loved machine and it runs grate even today, only GPU power is low. In the Bios as motherboad name say: P170EMx Clevo Specifications at this monent: I7 3720QM 16gb ddr3 and Nvidia Quadro 5010M 4GB I checked a lot of forums but there is old post... some said that upgraded perfectly with gtx 680m and some say that is working with gtx 980m mxm 3b but post from long time ago. and on some sites and ebay i saw mxm 3.0b cards going as new like gtx 1060 6gb. So my Questions: Where i can find bios updates for my model? ( Clevo website is a bit messy and dont show bios as downloadable think, only some old drivers. Any knoledge about clevo or my model and mxm graphics card upgrade? what maximum i could get. Its confosuing befouce of mxm 3.0 3.0b 3.1 plus dont know how much my bios can support it. Plus power delivery And what Cpu could i get? as 45W i can get i7 3840qm but i saw there is i7 39xx EM or something like that but 55W tdp. Will it support ? Thank you for your help everyone. Hopefully i can lvl up some knowledge and upgrade my laptop safely.

Does anybody know if you can effectively upgrade the GTX 770m in a Toshiba Qosmio X-75 for a GTX 780m? The Qosmio uses MXM 3.0B for its dedicated graphics, so physically a 780m should fit, but I was just wondering if anyone has tried it or would know how to find out if it would work. I'd prefer not to waste the $180ish on a 780m if it isn't gonna work. I've looked around for information about this, but so far I haven't found any concrete evidence.

I have a Dell G1700 series lap top that came with a 128GB SSD boot drive. after some issues where the drive was to full to update windows I started looking for an upgrade to the boot SSD this lead my to talk to my schools IT department were they told me that I had a NVME compatible M.2 port on my laptops mother board. I then some time later was looking at my computer's part specks and found that the computer has a Sata SSD installed. after this I talked to Dell support and asked what SSD i could buy to upgrade my laptop. after giving the laptop's product code the support staff informed me that I could install an NVME SSD via link to the Dell store page. with this information I then purchased a Intel NVME SSD from new egg. now that I have time to swap out my old boot drive for the new one I looked into how it could be done and learned that I would need a USB to M.2 adapter. while looking for one I only found adapter that serviced one SSD type or the other. I don't want to end up bricking either the new SSD (it is under a return policy until January) or my laptop. do any of you know any thing that could help me. TLDR I have a Dell 1700 both Dell and my schools tech support say that I can use a NVME SSD the laptop came with a SATA SSD (as per the dell website, what it reads as in the settings, and general from factor) I have not found any dual compatible M.2 adapters (IE compatible with SATA and NVME)

I own Samsung NP300E5X. Just upgraded from HDD to SSD, but for some reason my SSD using half the speed its capable of. [ ''A word about SATA compatibility as well: SATA III is required for proper Samsung SSD performance, and if you have a SATA II mainboard then you can expect much slower speeds. '' ] In the Laptop specs it says that it has SATA III.... So why am i getting Half the speed of my SSD?

I currently have a Dell Insipron 7460 that has a SanDisk X400 M.2 SSD (SD8SN8U-128G) will an Adata SX8200 Pro M.2 NVME SSD (ASX8200PNP-1TT-C) work with my laptop?

Hello, fellow LTT enthusiasts. First post here if that's not cringe. So I have this old Toshiba Satellite L655D laptop from 2012, which came with Windows 7 and is now dual-booting between Linux Mint and Manjaro, both on the internal 320 GB hard drive. It has 3 gigs of RAM, and I'll probably have to upgrade that pretty soon, but that's not the point of this post. The problem is, I am looking to use Android apps on this laptop, either through Anbox or by triple-booting Android-x86. Anything Android-related requires a CPU that supports SSSE3 protocol, which the AMD Athlon it came with is incompatible with. The motherboard has an Insyde h2 bios, if that makes any difference. Is there a reputable site to buy/sell older laptop processors with filters as to which protocols they support, and if so what would be the price range for something like this? Many thanks.

I have an Acer Aspire 5733-6838 (http://tinyurl.com/omfxule/) which if I go to the computer properties says its an i5, when it states that it is a i-3 on the front of the laptop. Any way I am faced with a difficult decision since I am outgrowing the laptop I need something more powerful. Should I upgrade this laptop heavily, or build a desktop? I could upgrade the laptop by buying one of these (http://tinyurl.com/jvhugqf) since I dont have a GPU in this laptop, or a slot for it, and I would also get 4 more GB of ram, a total of 8 GB. I have a friend with a spare GPU who will sell it to me for 10 bucks, since he doesn't have room in his PC to put it, and he heard about my delema and wanted to get this GPU off his hands. He hasn't told me what GPU it is, because he can't remember, and can't exactly find it for some reason, really I don't know how he could misplace a GPU, but whatever. In total, this would be around 80 bucks. I my friend can't find his GPU, I will probably buy The other option is to build my own pc, with around a buget of 400 to 700 bucks (if he can't find the GPU, it will be 700. I am not exactly rich, but I do want a powerful gaming rig. If my friend can't find his GPU, I have my eye on this GPU (http://tinyurl.com/ojd78qj) which is 300 bucks. I know how to build a PC and have done it before, so thats not a problem. I really hope you guys can help me out with my problem.

First! background info so everyone can use and promote a standard lingo when talking about mPCIE cards Now, these are not unique to just mobile though, some desktop MoBo's have these bad boys to enable some hawt abilites (uber caching, nipple hardening fast OS). But, yea, it's mostly about one of the very few things mobile computers users could use to improve their marginalized systems (Hugs my poor HDX18) But there are somethings(OKAY! many things) I don't understand for the life of me about, whatever's going on here. 1 - Why are NAND's sooo much moar expensive on PCI PCB's then those on mSata PCB's? Are the mPCIE's PCB's made from the souls of dead children? 2 - When mPCIE came out first, why are we using mSata naow? Wasn't PCI better before? isn't it still? Won't it still be later? 3 - Seriously, why the hell are mPCIE SSD's so expensive? 4 - What's all this controller business when talking aboot gen1 mPCIE? HP won't tell me what's up with my HDX18-1378ca / Quanta 3610(as per PCWIZ 2013). Been searching for 2 days, my google-fu must suck >.< 5 - Why aren't there more graphics cards in laptops using this? (ooops that's a bit of a different gripe, but...) I wants something like this http://www.renice-tech.com/product.asp?classid=130&id=110 I've no idea if it would work in my HDX18, AND, it costs more then my rent, or a brand new pewdur (pewdur - a derogatory term used by awesome ppl (just me) to discribe new PC's that are kinda crap on arrival) Anyone know of any mPCIE's, full height or half, that are priced by people whom occupy our realm of mere mortals? Or hell if you know some technical info inregards to mPCIE, please comment to enlighten me!
