So basically, a few weeks ago I changed my thermal paste on my rog strix scar 2 but after that my gpu started to behave abnormally like it stayed on 139MHz when it should at 1443MHz on idle. I opened it up again and saw that the film covering the transistors the gpu dye was not in the proper place. The thermal paste was in between the transistors on the dye. I used isopropyl alcohol with a tissue to remove it as much as I could but it didnt work. I have a question that am I correct that the thermal paste is the reason my gpu is not working properly and how can I remove the thermal paste like should I use a toothbrush or something?

My Gtx 1650 laptop gpu is getting huge fps drops, i owned the laptop for a whole year there slight fps drops only but recently i noticed HUGE fps drops when i play any game i usually get 500 fps with mods in Minecraft but now i only get ~200 (no i did not update my mods and i did not touch any settings) and the same for other games i play, the only thing i did is update drivers (a few weeks ago) and the fps drop started a few days ago can anyone help me with this issue? tried everything i can, even lowering the settings of the games i play doesn't bump the fps much only like 8 or 10. At roughly the same price, I can get an MSI laptop with RTX 2060 6GB VRAM or an Acer Nitro with RTX 3050 4GB VRAM.. Is going last gen worth it for extra VRAM ? (gaming, productivity)

Hey guys, I just got a laptop with an RTX 3050, but when I tried some games, they did not work too well. I got an average of 5-6 fps in Fortnite, and like 20 fps in Valorant (on medium-low settings). I'm pretty sure it's because my laptop is using the integrated graphics for some reason, but everything I'm doing doesn't work. I set my default GPU to the 3050 in NVIDIA Control Panel, nothing changed. I downloaded the correct NVIDIA GPU Drivers and some Intel Graphics DCH Driver, also nothing. So I did a local reinstall for Windows, and I still have 20 fps in Valorant. I'm definitely sort of worried, and am pretty stumped. (I have the HP Victus 16-d0013dx) Thank you

Alright, so recently a friend gave me his old gaming laptop which has an mxm-b 3.0 GPU slot. The current GPU is a GTX 880M, but it has been crashing games unexpectedly. While looking for a replacement/upgrade, I came across this ebay listing which is for a "Tesla Drive PX2" video card; this was what powered the Tesla's self-driving computer back in 2016. What I'm trying to figure out is if this GPU is actually usable for gaming, graphical editing, etc. It looks just like the other one in terms of form factor, slot type, and where the post-holes are in the pcb. I just don't know if it's one of those cards that can't actually output graphics, like some (barf in mouth) mining-focused cards don't. Anyone with info on this, please let me know if you can!

So I've had this laptop for about a few years now and it has a GTX1050. But when I go to update the graphics drivers it brings up an error saying that drivers failed to update, I think the drivers may be corrupted. Also I can't restore the drivers to a previous version because my laptop "had to be factory reset" to fix some other issues, or at least that's what a teacher at my school said would fix everything but it didn't fix everything, and I also lost some files and game saves. What do I do to fix my graphics drivers?

Summary Specifications of NVIDIA's upcoming Ada RTX 40 Laptop GPU lineup have now appeared. The supposed specifications seem to indicate up to 200 W TGP including Dynamic Boost for the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Laptop GPUs (with boost clocks well above 2 GHz). GPUs from the RTX 4070 down the stack can be configured between 115 W and 140 W (+25 W) TGP but with the RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 also having 85 +10 W options. Quotes My thoughts I posted a story on Wednesday showing the Core i9-13900HX Laptop CPU beating three desktop CPUs in Geekbench 5. Someone joked around saying that CPU with a turbo power of 157W should be paired with a 300W RTX 4090 mobile part. Well, here, we're not quite at 300W yet, but 200W. If you were to get a 13900HX equipped laptop with one of these 4090 Laptop GPUs, you're looking at around 350W of power for the CPU/GPU alone. I can only imagine the size of the power brick on these next-Gen laptops. The mobile RTX 4090 will also have desktop RTX 4080 silicon, so performance is going to be faster than a desktop RTX 3090/3090 Ti. This is very impressive in my opinion. Laptop gaming has really come a long way. Now the only thing left to do on these Laptops is to improve the cooling solutions somehow, to allow better noise levels. Because it seems year after year they are already able to continually pack more power into these mobile machines. RTX 4080 Laptop GPU to feature 7424 CUDA cores, 42% faster than RTX 3080. Quotes Sources https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-laptop-gpu-to-feature-7424-cuda-cores-42-faster-than-rtx-3080 https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/compute/6137883 My thoughts According to this leak, this 4080 mobile part is 25% faster than a desktop RTX 3070. That puts it (the mobile 4080) at about desktop 3080 Ti performance.

So recently I traded my gaming desktop for a Sager NP9773 / Clevo P770ZM. It has plenty of power except the GPU. I was wondering what my upgrade path would be and how I could do so. I've built literally tons of desktops but I've never done a laptop before and just don't want to forget an important step. i'm looking to spend between $200-$300 on the GPU upgrade. Any suggestions? Hey everyone, I have an alienware 17 with a gtx 765m and from the get go it hasn't really ever worked right. When running any game or software that would use the dedicated gpu instead of the integrated the application would close and NVidia would pop up and say kernel failure. Now after reinstalling all new drivers the laptop goes into the blue screen of death. Any help?

Hello, (Sorry in advance if this is not in the right section or some other related subject) So I have a question. I realized that a lot of laptops now a days have a 4K screen. But sometimes the GPU can't support 4K, such as a 960m 2gb. Or can it? I honestly don't know. So I'm looking for answers; Why do Laptops have 4K screens if the gpu is not powerful enough? Or am I wrong and can almost any gpu run 4k? and is a 960m 2gb even enough for 4k screens.

So I have this sorta old laptop I had for a couple years. At the moment, it works pretty fine despite it being old. The caveat's with this laptop is, as I mentioned, it is somewhat old. It has an AMD processor with integrated graphics. The one I have is pretty bad. I plan on building my own custom PC in like a year or so, which will be my primary machine. For this, I plan on looking at every single part I buy carefully, and try to get them for the cheapest prices. But once again, this will take a while, so for the time being, I plan on using my current laptop until then. In my case there is no point in buying a new laptop because I plan on getting a custom build PC soon, so I might as well use this current laptop by then. I don't really do gaming on this machine, mainly because it can obviously hardly run anything. Now I am considering connecting a GPU externally to my laptop using the EXP GDC Beast device. I want to connect something at least similar to a 1060. This will no doubt be time consuming, and may not even work. In order to do this, a spare Wi-Fi adapter port must be present, and be plugged in with the wire hanging out of the bottom of the laptop. I believe to access the Wi-Fi card in my laptop, you have to take the thing apart from bottom and the top. If you have an express card in your laptop, you can use the beast with the express card cable. My laptop does not have an express card port. But would it work if I had a USB to express card slot (https://amzn.to/2W5NroS)? Would something like this work? So if I have that adapter in my laptop, along with everything else connected, would this method even work? Would this idea of using the EXP GDC on my laptop even be a good idea? What do you think?

Recently i found out the nvidia MX130 is a rebranded version of Nvidia 940mx. My laptop had 940mx, well, it died.Repairs say it needs to be replaced. So now im thinking if i have to replace, why not upgrade to mx130! if they are basically the same gpu it should be possible, right? can someone clarify? its a asus k401u i5,8gb,512ssd and yes, the repairs said the gpu can be removed by applying heat and the also talked about replacing some connecting balls below the gpu.

amd radeon r5 m330 External GPU not working
Faisal96 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi guys, I bought a "Lenovo IdeaPad 350" two years ago, it has an internal Intel HD 5500 and a dedicated AMD Radeon R5-M330. Now I'm not expecting much from either of them in terms of performance, but my problem is whenever there is any graphical load on the system, only the internal GPU seems to work, despite the fact that both of them are recognized by the system (I checked them in Device Manager) and has updated drivers . Even when I'm running games or doing some video editing. So I'm thinking that maybe I could get more performance in games or other graphic-demanding applications if the external GPU is running instead of the inboard one, what do you think guys?- 5 replies

I'm currently looking for a laptop that is light weight but has enough power to handle my lightroom and photoshop workload. Portability is really important to me but obviously I have to sacrifice some performance on the graphic side if I want something really portable. I was wondering if any of you guys are currently using a laptop with Intel Iris Plus Graphics for photo editing/graphic design work? If so, what has your experience been like and have you encountered any issues? Thanks!

So like the few before me, I have a few slight problems with my egpu setup with my HP Envy 6t 1200. @GoodBytes @Firearm2112 help pls I have my desktop gtx 970 hooked up through my EXP GDC adapter to my laptops wlan slot running at pci-e 2.0 x2.0. I can extend displays and all kinds of settings work fine, even games and the gpu are acting normal ONLY when I use the video output of the physical gtx 970 to an external monitor (gpu gets limited to around 70-90% usage lol). When I make the external monitor "my main display" all games and such work fine, but when I use the laptop's screen as "my main display" it seems to use the intel hd4000 igpu in the i7 3517u. The laptop also has a dedicated amd 8750m running with hp drivers (only ones that make it work) as well as the newest Nvidia driver for the gtx 970 (both installed). There are also no device manager or resource conflicts. I have tried: (reedings verified with multiple windows of gpuz/fraps + reboots inbetween) External display=main; No disabled devices; games run off gtx970 External display=main; Disabled 8750m; stopped ccc; games run off gtx970 External display=main; Disabled hd4000; Games run off gtx970 External display=main; Disabled both 8750m + hd4000; stopped ccc, Games run off gtx 970 Laptop screen=main; No disabled devices: games run off hd4000 Laptop screen=main; Disabled 8750m: stopped ccc: games run off hd4000 Laptop screen=main; Disabled hd4000 + 8750m, stopped ccc, games run off something (worse than hd4000) Laptop screen=main; Disabled gtx 970; stopped nvidia processes; games run off 8750m So far I have only tried one program that supposedly manipulates what gpu renders what where that is called Lucid Virtu. I have no idea what it does/is doing but it runs games better than hd4000 but worse than either the gtx 970 or the 8750m (both laptop screen and external monitor as main displays). Maybe since the bandwidth of the wlan slot is so limited that when you try to send display information through it in addition to actual rendering done on the gtx 970, it is just too much of a bottleneck? How can I get my desktop gtx 970 to render games/everything on my laptop's internal display?

Greeting everyone, I would like to make thread about mobile new generation 9XXM from Nvidia. Here's some info from internet (sources at bottom) and I would like to make discussion about it. GeForce GTX 900M series will be named: GT 940M* GTX 950M* GTX 960M* GTX 970M GTX 975M GTX 980M (Spips in October) *No info about them at this moment About GeForce 9XXM series This generation will be based on GM204 chip. Probably this chip will be in version GM204B and still 28nm process. This generation promises desktop class gaming and 980M/97xM may be capable of gaming beyon 1080p. But main WOW is in power consumption, because Nvidia announces that this Maxwell generation is able to run on battery (100W) and also lower thermal output. y And there is new update in technology Nvidia Battery Boost which was used in 8XXM series. This technology hold 30+ FPS and hold it at this level if you need to. For example if you play FPS you need more FPS (lol - first person shooter, frames per second) but if you play strategy or some static game you dont need high FPS for static scene. With Battery Boost works new updated Nvidia Experience with plugged and battery optimalization settings. Anytime you can play game higher than 30 FPS (I would say 60 FPS in 980M) and on battery you can still manage quite long game time. In compare to Kepler, this Maxwell generation has from 1.5 to 2 times faster NVENC video encoder (from 6 to 8 times the speed of playback). Pure Video Feature Set E decoding should go from 8 to 10 times better thanks to cache and memory efficiency. But still H.265 is not fully hardware supported for decoding, so is used hardware and software mix for decoding boost instead. 970M and 975M GTX has core clock of 954 MHz and it should be able to operate at 954-993 MHz. It has 6GB memory and according to all data I've read 975M is going to have higher core and memory clock or in my opinion 970M would have 4GB memory and 975M 6GB - this is just speculation. But stil 97XM version has slower memory bus it's 192 bit, but still outperforms all curren mobile cards. In compare to 980M is 20% slower. Release date is unknown. 980M Has 8GB memory as 880M and same memory bus - 256 bit. Core speed is nice 1032 MHz and boost is up to 1098 MHz. This performace is capable to play on highest settings on 1080p at 60FPS. TDP is unknow but probably is going to be around 100-115 W. And there is some crazy result 980 vs 980M Two way SLI. 980 got at Fire Strike nice 10415 and 980M SLI (yes its SLI, but hey it's laptop card) got awesome 13181. 980M SLI is totatly 1080p 60 FPS Ultra settings choice, probably nothing you throw at it gonna stop it bellow 60 FPS. Videocardz.com said that from unknown reason 980M SLI is insanely greater than 980, scaling is 95%+! "Whether this is just a well written driver or a new technology for mobile GPUs, we do not know yet.". 980M is going to be shipped in October.
