I live in house from the 1960's in Sweden and we only have old coax into the house. Our ISP (Tele2) gave us this old Sagemcom C2 router that really is a nightmare: every settings is for some reason locked down so you can't change any of the settings, it's running an old outdated software version and you can't update it, it runs really hot for some reason, we pay for 300 Mbit/s but only get ≈100 Mbit/s etc. Our ISP tells us it is supposed to be this way with this router and that everything is fine. Is anyone aware of a modern router that has a coax input? The outlet. The cable. The router.

Good afternoon LTT Community, I come to you looking for some guidance I'm looking into purchasing a server for my medium / small business in order to act as our Quickbooks Desktop hosting server and be able to access it anywhere, I'd like a server to be able to handle at least 30 simultaneous RemoteApp users running Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise as well as 10 users on the local network. I'm familiar with running shared access on a local network from a regular pc, but deploying this kind of solution is completely foreign to me and I don't know where to start, specially when it comes to the equipment since I want the operations to run as smoothly and reliably as possible. Budget is not a limitation but I'd want something that could suffice my current demands and with upgrade options for the future. Looking forward to the replies, Thanks!!

In my quest for a G-PON to RJ11 and RJ45 converter, I came across the UISP Fiber XG on the Ubiquiti site. However, it seems to only support RJ45 and not RJ11. Given the necessity for an RJ11 connection in my setup for calling purposes, I'm reaching out to the community for recommendations on alternatives or if there are other products that fulfill both requirements. I've attached a picture for your reference. Your expertise and advice, especially if you've encountered a similar situation, would be immensely valuable. Thank you for your assistance!

I'm in the process of setting up a security camera system for my new house and could use some expert advice. I'm considering going with Ubiquiti, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to the technical details. Here's what I have in mind: 1. 1 camera for the balcony 2. 1 camera for the parking area 3. 2 cameras facing outside the home Total 4 cameras running on PoE 4. Wi-Fi extenders/mesh running on PoE to cover areas with weak Wi-Fi signals My house has LAN sockets in every part, and I'd like to keep the footage recording locally. Could you please help me with: - What specific Ubiquiti products should I consider for this setup? - Do I need to pay a monthly subscription fee to Ubiquiti after purchasing their equipment, or is it free for a lifetime? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

We recently upgraded to fiber optic cabling to our house and the speeds are amazing but since then I've been having some problems. The symptoms are as follows: Only problems are with LAN WIFI works fine (every device with LAN connection has the same experience) When powering on device it shows that it is connected to internet but when trying to access any website it will load indefinitely (but won't show in browser that there is no network connection) While on the device it says I am connected when I check connected devices in the router settings it does not show anything until Only thing we have done to temporarily fix the issue is restarting computers, unplugging and re-plugging lane cable, and rebooting the modem. It will also randomly through the day just stop working but if I am downloading something it will continue to download; or in a call on my pc I can still hear the other client, but they cannot hear me. This happens until after about 5 minutes it starts working again. Before the fiber and new modem nothing like this happened which is why I am inclined to think that the modem has an issue. After a bit more testing I found that the internet stops for all LAN devices when I turn on my own PC, and the other devices will lose internet but also still say they are connected in the bottom right. Things I've checked: I've run an antivirus Checked the cabling running from my pc to modem (still recommend and idea if you think its the cabling) Network reset has been run and no change. How can I fix this

I have Cat 6 wiring in all rooms of my house, but my router has an RJ-45 port for internet and an RJ-11 port for telephone. Since the router is in the bedroom, can I connect an RJ-11 cable from the router to the RJ-45 wall socket in the bedroom, linking it to the living room's RJ-45 socket? From there, could I use an RJ-11 cable to connect to my telephone? In essence, I'm wondering if my telephone will function properly if I use an RJ-45 cable in between of an RJ-11 cable in this setup or do i need any kind of adapter of specific cable for this if yes; Then where can i buy it?

My brother once told me that he'd host lan parties back in the college days (UBC) where supposedly Linus would attend ( and someone else whos name I'm pretty sure is Jake ). Does anyone have any information to prove or disprove this story? I am pretty sure these parties were in the early 2000s.

I have airtel xstream fiber (AOT-4221SR router model) I am having concerns regarding continuous exposure to RF/ MW all day long, I got a LAN cable and want to turn off WLAN/ Wifi from router. But I am unable to do so by logging into router. The checkbox is greyed out. So I called my ISP, technician on that end were able to turn it on and off. But I want to do so myself. He tried to give me access but was unable to. I may frequently want to turn it on and off and will have to call them. That's the only option for now. I have tuned down the bandwidth for now from 40/80MHz. But I am unable to turn down transmission power. As I make it 20% , it turns itself to 100%. Other services let customers do it.

Hey! Without changing anything or going into any internet/router settings my connection in games started breaking. I tested with different games so it's not a one game issue. For example, in Fortnite I can run around and play the game like normal before all of a sudden the connection is lost and I'm sent back to the main menu. The same thing happens in Discord when in a voice chat with friends, all is well and then it lags without any warning. I'm connected via LAN from a WiFi extender (Speed Home Wifi - Telekom), this has not been an issue for about three years now. What is strange to me about this is that at no point does my internet connection break. I can load websites, watch videos, etc. I even had Fortnite going in the background and as I was browsing around and the game "lost" it's connection while everything else loaded without an issue. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? Maybe someone knows a diagnostic tool I can run or something? I'm really confused and it's very annoying. Thanks in advance and please feel free to ask any questions that might help you to help me! :)

I'm sorry if this has been explained elsewhere, but I haven't had luck finding an answer. I recently purchased a home (late 1980's construction) and have RJ11 (telephone) jacks in most of the rooms connected with traditional 2-pair wiring (NOT Cat5/6). With the move, we disconnected our landline and now have no use for the telephone jacks, but they are conveniently located where I would like to have network connections. I understand that traditional telephone wiring was 2 pair instead of the 4 twisted pairs in Cat5/6. Since LAN connections only use 2 pairs anyway (as was kinda referenced in the "There's no way this works - Debunking bogus Network Splitters" video a few months back), would it be possible (if the lines are all dedicated runs and not loop connections), to convert the runs to ethernet by matching the pin connections on either end of the runs with their respective male/female RJ45 connectors or faceplates? I've seen some articles saying that it isn't worth it because you can only get 10 Mb/s over telephone, but they use the same conductors in both cables (just more twists). Has anyone had any luck with this?

Background: As the resident 'gamer' at my current job I got asked to help with the new gaming center we will rent out for birthday parties. I'm a gamer that had built a couple PC's but I've never delt with LAN or some of the other detials. I need Help! Here's the vision: 6-8 gaming PC's in the same room for lan and online play. Simplicity and control is key here as there will be kids from early Elementary school to High School using these systems. My idea was to have wired controllers coming from each system so that kids will actually know what to do. ***(I was thinking of possibly having the PC's in a seperate mechanical room like Linus and running fiber optic?? This would prevent tampering and reduce heat/noise)**** Questions (Answer as many or few as you can, I need the help) : Any problems with my current vision? What kind of network setup would I need? (router and switch type things) Is there any really good software I could use to simplify and lock down these machines Do I have to make individual Steam acocunts for each machine, and buy individual game copies? Game reccomendations (espically for the littler ones) How would you execute this?

Hi all, I have been watching the LTT live stream recently and saw Linus do 6 gamers one CPU and thought about giving something similar ago myself just on a much smaller scale, ie two computers one chassis for a LAN event. The unit I have was used in an industrial setting but they retired it earlier this year and I bought it for cheap to make into a home lab but I haven't the time or knowledge to make it a home lab server but I thought about using it when I go to LAN events. Obviously the idea would be to run a virtual machine off the server and add in some external graphics cards for the display and gpu stuff needed. Does anyone know if one this is even possible with a hp proliant dl380 g7 and two could I run more than one machine if this worked. Thanks

Hello. I'm wondering if anyone can help me with with any troubleshooting on latency from my home network. I've been noticing a small lag spike when watching videos on my pc and later when I was playing games with a buddy, I was getting a more noticeable effect. Playing Halo MCC and Infinite specifically I would see a message saying "packet loss" and when we would try and load a new level on MCC he would desync and then no longer be on the same game as me but on the same level. Just a few moments ago I decided to do some troubleshooting and well... Problem; I have bad packet loss while keeping very good ping. Troubleshooting Done So Far; As my system was newly built I checked my drivers by installing Armoury Crate and let them update it to keep it hassle free. No improvements when running ping tests. My router was using PFSense, checking and applying the update from 2.6.0 to 2.7.0. No improvement. Ran ping tests from PC to Router, no issue. PC to Google and Router to Google, same issue. Image Below. Is there anything else on my side to help find out, if not fix, the issue or do I need to talk to my ISP to go any further? Thank You in advance.

This is a weird one, I can't even figure out where to start in figuring this out. Hello everybody! I recently started having issues with my network, specifically my LAN connected devices. My network is set up the following way: Outside fiber -> Telekom fiber modem -> FritzBox 7590 (router) -> ca. 10m (~33ft) CAT5e LAN cable -> TP-Link TL-SG105 -> 2 PCs and a wired WLAN-AP. Tl;dr (for details, read the rest): I randomly lose LAN connection to my router. I can sometimes get it back. When I get it back, I sometimes still can't reach the router or the internet. Surefire way to fix it is rebooting the router. Have no clue what is going on. I should mention, the cases I'm describing here are not all one event but multiple events where sometimes one of the solutions I tried worked BUT there was one event where I did everything in the described order. Here it gets weird: When I walk out of my room I directly walk past the switch. It's on the bottom of a shelf with the LAN cable running underneath the shelf. When I come back to my PC, I've lost LAN connection. Further, the line coming in on the switch shows up as disconnected. So, my first thought was, maybe the cable and the super janky LSA connector I use to connect the end of the cable coming out of the wall to another cable that then goes into the switch slightly moves when I walk past it (this building is about 90 years old) and there is a bad connection. So, I pulled it apart, confirmed it works fine with a multi meter and put it back together. Issue persists. It's also not guaranteed to fail when I walk past it. Instead, it fails randomly. Next thing I did was log into the FritzBox with my phone to see what it can tell me. LAN shows up as disconnected. I go and just change all the ports. Go from port 0 on the FritzBox to port 1 and shuffle all ports on the switch. LAN shows up as connected on the FritzBox again but no devices. Weird... I check my PC and it tells me, no internet access but LAN is connected. Even weirder... I'm pretty much at a loss and start throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. /ipconfig renew is the first thing I think of, and it tells me the DHCP-Server isn't replying. But I can see that something assigned an IP to my PC. I change the port speed on the FritzBox from 1Gbit to 100Mbit and boom, my PC shows up as connected to the FritzBox, but I still don't have internet AND I can’t reach the FritzBox from my PC. So, renew again, I think. Still no reply from the DHCP-Server. What?! Switch the port back to 1Gbit and nothing changes. PC still shows up, still can't reach the FritzBox or reach the DHCP server. Only thing left that I could think of, is reboot the FritzBox and now everything works fine. A few hours later (I've walked in and out of my room multiple times now) I walk out of my room and come back: LAN connected but no internet access. Huh? Try to reach the FritzBox with my PC, nope. Log in with my phone, LAN connected but no devices. I just, what? I know enough about networking to know that I know nearly nothing and not enough to even begin figuring this out. I know a thing or two about wires, wiring and how important shielding is to know that the LSA connector is jank but works fine and isn't affected by the floor subtly shifting when I walk past it. If pulling on the cable (dw, I'm not yanking on it) to get it out underneath the shelf doesn't affect it then why would walking past it? Beyond that I have absolutely no clue what is going on. I did run the cable my self and there are no points where someone could walk over it or even damage it in any way. What I'm saying is, it's done right. Any help in diagnosing the issue or even fixing it would be much appreciated. English isn't my first language if there are any points where something isn't clear, I apologize and please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. Thanks in advance, Zero

Greetings, I hope someone can assist me with an ongoing network issue. I own the ASUS XG-C100C NIC and it is installed on an MSI X570-A Pro Motherboard (CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X). I am running Windows 11 22H2 (Build 22621.1702). Unfortunately, I am only able to achieve speeds of up to 4491.86 Mbps down and 1691.08 Mbps up. I have a 10 Gbit/s FTTH connection at home. My ISP sent one of their technicians to my apartment, and he conducted measurements using my Cat6 cable, which is directly connected to the 10 Gbit/s port of the router/fiber box. He was able to achieve up- and download speeds of around 8 Gbit/s. To troubleshoot the issue, I tested the same NIC using Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.1 by creating a bootable USB. Surprisingly, I received significantly higher download and upload speeds - almost 6 Gbit/s down and 3 Gbit/s up. Additionally, I tested another NIC (OWC - the same one that Linus bought for his home system, I believe?) on my system and obtained very similar results. I could really use some advice on how to fix this issue... thx

Hello all! My computer recently started losing internet connection (kind of) intermittently. I say kind of, because windows still thinks it has internet, and any page that I'm already on doesn't stop working, it just stops loading new pages. At first, I thought it was my built in ethernet port on my motherboard, since I also have issues with some of the usb ports on it, and I think the USB controller on the MB might be going bad because plugging in one device sometimes causes the others to stop working. Since then, I purchased a PCIe ethernet card and the problem is still present. My PC: ASRock x370 Killer SLI/ac Ryzen 1700x NVidia 3080 Founders edition Realtek 2.5g lite PCIe LAN card PCIe USB 3.0 card Windows 10 pro, up to date, recent fresh install Also probably relevant, I use Edge for web browsing. I've tried wiping the cache, doesn't seem to help. Any ideas are appreciated, I'm about to lose my mind and wipe the drive again :D

I am fairly new to networking, but I just moved to a new place and have been having trouble setting up my NAS server. My goal is to have my NAS pc in the basement which is where the ONT is located and have it plugged directly into the switch down there. The setup down there is fiber -> ONT -> switch -> MOCA adapter (basement) -> MOCA adapter (office) -> router. My issue is that when I plugged my NAS into the switch it did not appear on my network. And when I plugged my laptop into the switch it said it was on a different network than the one the router is on. I do not know if this is something that is caused by the MOCA adapters or since the ONT also serves the other unit in my building if that could be causing the issue. Any tips on troubleshooting or things to try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I want my ethernet back. When the system is shut down, the ethernet indicator lights on the port show that a stable signal is being received. Immediately after pressing the power button, the lights turn off and don't turn back on until the PC is off again. Troubleshooting steps I have already tried: 1. Different cable - This cable and port on the router work fine. 2. Bios reset - Didn't do nothing. 3. Network reset - Didn't do nothing. 4. Driver update - Didn't do nothing. 5. Driver re-install - Didn't do nothing. 6. Unplugging it and plugging it back in - Didn't do nothing. 7. Bios update flash - Didn't do nothing. (Probably still good though) 8. Windows update - Didn't do nothing. What else is there for me to try??? This is incredibly inconvenient. I am using a MSI Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard and I cannot get the Ethernet to work. I've installed the correct drivers and Windows (8.1) still tells me that the ethernet isn't connected. The cord and router are fine. But I went into my bios and saw that Onboard Lan Controller is enabled, but I am not sure what LAN Option ROM is. If you can, please explain to me what that means and if it can help my situation at all. Thanks!

I've never really paid attention to file management on Android since I seldom use phones to deal with stuff, but right now when I have to, it's a nightmare looking for good file explorers, good ones require you to pay and you sometimes they have ads that get in the way. Can anyone recommend a good file explorer, paid ones can be okay if it's good. Also, is it possible to have a publicly available folder on my phone?

Sorry for the title, didn't know what would be the best fit for this. I get right into my question: I have a VPN server listening on 10.145.30.2 (10.145.30.0/24) I have a Lab-Server listening ob 10.145.50.6 (10.145.50.0/24) I have my DNS (Domain Controllers) on 10.0.0.3 & 10.0.0.4. Both the VPN Server and the Lab Server can freely access the DNS and a nslookup works indefinitely fine (both NETs are allowed via Firewall). Now here is the mysterious problem: When my friend connects via VPN to my VPN-Net and gets a 10.145.30.x IP, then after some seconds his nslookup requests fail and the DNS server gets listed as UnKoWn instead of the actual dns-name. He does a nslookup to the LAB-Server. ---> All Traffic is passed through my net, once connected and authenticated via RADIUS. However the VPN-Server itself has no problems with DNS and nslookups at that time. If I change the Subnet (the VPN-Server can assign IPs from to the client) to the Lab Net (10.145.50.x) then everything works fine indefinitely . Just not with the VPN-Net. LAB Net is VLAN50 VPN is VLAN30 Apparently my firewall settings for the VPN Net are now identical with the ones from the LAB net. So I can rule out a FW issue here. Is there anything else I can check? Friends CMD (when connected to VPN): https://gitlab.com/openconnect/ocserv/uploads/c7d66e008050c4617afa340a29ac7ef5/image.png My CMD: https://gitlab.com/openconnect/ocserv/uploads/630a0bc305663821f700c055ab650d5a/image.png VPN-Server software used is ocserv on Debian. Works well except from the issue above. I already opened an issue at their gitlab but it got immediately closed stating it's a client issue... ocserv gitlab issue I created if that could be of any help: https://gitlab.com/openconnect/ocserv/-/issues/395

I have 2 wifi routers, Archer AC1200 one for upstairs, and TL-WR740N / TL-WR740ND one for down, both are from TPLink, so the settings' ip are same i.e 192.168.0.1. So, when I hooked the new router in my pc, it shows the settings page for the new router, but when I removed it and put back the old router, chrome remembers the new router's page and tries to open it and it can't (screenshot below). I can get around it by using Incognito mode or other browser (or probably even clearing cache, which I wont). Thats well and good, but my intent is to connect all of the routers using Ethernet, so how will I open either because the Newer model's settings page will be opened, probably. Is there any workaround for that, can I maybe change the ips for either routers? I'd rather not use ethernet, instead I'd use my old one as 2Ghz wifi repeater for my new one without any ethernet, but if my routers can't reach each other, I'd have to resort to using ethernet. (our house is old and the walls/ceiling are very fat around 15", wifi have trouble getting through) Thanks

Im looking to extend my net to upstairs, the length from bottom to upstas is probably around 90 meters. I did google it, it said it the no disturbance limit is around 90-100 meters, but then how does the main net wire from post to my house come without any "electricical" disturbance, it's way longer than 100m (there's a copper wire and a fiber as well). I also don't know much about Cat5,6,7, etc. All I know higher is better lol I want to buy this wire FEDUS High Speed RJ45 cat6 Ethernet Patch Internet Network Computer Gigabit Category 5E Cable/Cord/Wires for Modem, Router, LAN ADSL (100 m), recommend me wires of 100m if my choice is not good. Thanks!
