Hi! So, I want to have my gaming PC running on my office (one of the rooms in my house) while at the same time being able to use it from the living room (plugged to a tv) and my bedroom (on a different monitor). I have all 3 rooms connected with ethernet cable and my idea was tu use a HDMI KVM I found on amazon: https://www.amazon.com.mx/gp/product/B099F2T3MS/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=ALXO6XP10HK6H&th=1 It basically connects a transmiter to my PC using usb and then uses the ethernet cable to connect to a receiver. The receiver has HDMI out put and USB ports for mouse / keyboard. I wanted to know if this is a good idea, or maybe there's a better way to do this using the existing ethernet cable I have setup? The goal is to be able to game on the living room and on my bedroom (just in case there's people on the office).

howdy friends, been a while since I built a PC (used Macs for a while), and it’s time for a new computer (mostly video editing, gaming, and maybe light streaming) and a return to the Windows world. I have 3x thunderbolt-only displays (the old LG 27” first gen that doesn’t fall back to USB-C, and they don’t support daisy chaining) on my desk for work, and am hoping I can use the same ones for my new build, of course running the graphics through the GPU. Im having trouble finding out the best way to get this setup built—which MOBO (and/or upgrade card) would support 3? In a perfect world I would be able to basically KVM my setup and use the same peripherals for both systems with the flip of a switch. Any suggestions or experience you can share is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Budget: $2500-$3000 USD Parts: MOBO: ??? thunderbolt card?? GPU: 4080 Super (already ordered) CPU: 13900k or 14900k RAM: 32GB DDR5 Cooling: 360mm AIO

Hello, I’m hoping you guys can help. LTT talked about Wendell's KVM switches at Level 1 techs and I'm really interested in the L1T KM Switch with mouse roaming but I had a few questions about it. 4-Port KM Switch with USB 3.2 Gen 1 Mouse Roaming Function — Level1Techs Store What is the 1 + 3 monitor layout? Does the KM work with removeable storage? I am wondering if the KM can handle removeable storage because I found this app called Clipboarder that shares your clipboard across computers using a KVM and removeable storage. Erriez/Clipboarder: Share clipboard between two computers via USB stick or Cloudstorage (github.com) If the L1T KM does not support this does anyone know of a hardware/software clipboard sharing solution that doesn’t require a network connection between the computers? The network for the second computer is isolated from the internet and it’s really tedious to always be tranfering or retyping things especially when it’s a simple line of text like a command. Any help would be appreciated.

Background: I'd like to share a workspace and my existing peripherals for gaming and work. Ideally I'd like to plug in one cable into the work-laptop and start working. Setup/Idea: I tried to illustrate my situation and a possible solution in the attached image. My display and my GPU don't have a USB-C connector. Question(s): Would this KVM switch from i-tec work? Is there a (better) solution for my setup f.e. with a hub?

I've got a question about using a KVM to swap over just one screen from my desktop to a Work laptop when working from home. Essentially I don't see why it shouldn't work but better to be sure first. I want to take my auxiliary monitor i use for my home Desktop and be able to freely swap it between my work laptop and desktop depending on when and where i need the extra monitor. I don't need to switch my keyboard or mouse. I know i can just swap the HDMI cable between but with the amount of time I'm finding swapping would be nice it makes sense a button on my desk would be beneficial. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I have a work laptop and my personal laptop. Both are Lenovos and I work with a dual monitor setup, exchanging the thunderbolt cable when I want to use one over the other. I'm wondering if there's a KVM setup that'll work with my existing docking setup (Lenovo), something like two thunderbolt cables going into a KVM then into the dock. Does this exist? Or is there another way of accomplishing this? It'd be nice to toggle between both setups easily. Thanks

I have gotten myself a relatively cheap KVM switch for working at home, only problem is I got my Laptop (MSI GP 66 Leopard) after the switch and it only outputs in HDMI. But the KVM switch I got only takes DP inputs. I tried using HDMI to DP cables, but contrary to the names, the signal only works one way (DP -> HDMI), with multiple devices even when directly PC to monitor. So does anyone know of ANY cable / adaptor that actually works the other way around? Would really like to know if thats possible or I just wasted my money.

I'm looking for a way to pass a HDMI signal from my PC to a TV thats located in a separate room, as well as mouse/keyboard signal back to the PC over a single cable as shown on the attached drawing. I'm hoping to find a way to pass signals back and forth over a single cable, ideally Ethernet, but optical would be fine as well. I know I can achieve this functionality using a KVM, here are several constraints however: There are 2 walls between the PC and TV, and max outer diameter of the conduit I can put through those walls is about 22mm, 25 if I'm lucky. Budget constraints: max abount I can spend on the device is about $100 US. I'm willing to consider buying used. I'm looking for some tips and suggestions on what KVM or other device to use, hoping that theres somebody on this forum that had faced similar problem before.

Any recommendation for an affordable KVM switch that has PiP or PbP HDMI or DisplayPort Doesn't have to be as crazy as a 2x2 PbP, like the Aten CM1284. I have a 4K on portrait whose display I occasionally wanna share with my work setup, but it never came with either PiP or PbP. Affordable - <$200 CAD (or around it) Making assumptions as my 4-input HDMI KVM switch cost me $100

I bought a KVM switch that can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5WPR68H It is supposed to have USB-A 3.0 ports and DP 1.4 to support my 1440p 144Hz monitor (laptop is only 60Hz, but I moved it down to 1440p as well to avoid any possible scaling issues when swapping with KVM). The KVM switch has USB-A ports and only DP for video. My desktop only has USB-A ports, but both DP and HDMI for video. My laptop only has USB-C ports and only HDMI for video. See the issue here? The KVM *will* connect to my desktop with both USB-A and DP cables. The KVM will *not* connect to my laptop with a DP to HDMI adapter. The KVM will *not* connect to my laptop with a USB-A to USB-C adapter. The KVM *will* connect to my laptop if I connect a USB-C hub that has USB-A ports on it, but that's less-than-ideal because it's a lot of extra bulk on my desk. I've attached a very professionally drawn diagram to try and explain visually. Now I know there's an identical HDMI version of the KVM switch that I got. It is $20 more expensive, however, so I just went with the DP one assuming my HDMI to DP adapter would work. I figure it would be better to look into a $20 "active" HDMI to DP adapter that could potentially work and just buy that, instead of returning mine and paying the extra $20 for the HDMI KVM instead. So my questions is, do my adapters need to be "active" adapters because the KVM can't convert from HDMI to DP and USB-A to USB-C? So something like this for HDMI to DP: https://www.amazon.com/Displayport-Converter-BolAAzuL-Gold-Plated-Connector/dp/B09QHGGZD3/ And I can't even find an "active" USB-A to USB-C adapter, so like do those even exist? Then why would the three or four different USB-A to USB-C adapters I had not work, but going from a USB-C dock to USB-A does work? This is all just a super massive headache to deal with.. I wish software solutions like Stardock's Multiplicity were good enough, but there is far too much lagginess to be able to have a decent work experience, especially if I am constantly in video calls and sharing my screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have been searching high and low for some kind of solution to my problem, but am a bit out of my element, so now I turn to the community for help... I need a 2+ PC KVM that supports PC1 being display port input and PC2 being Thunderbolt input as the only source of video, audio, etc. My desktop is a no brainer, but my work laptop has only USB Type C all around it that are used for charging, peripherals, etc. and all of this is connecting to a 165hz 1440p monitor. Is there such a KVM that can support a configuration something like this, or is there another creative solution I can do to solve my issue? Below is a super technical and very life-like diagram of what is in my mind-brain that I am looking for.

Hi all I'v been browsing for a while now trying to sort a suitable KVM for my setup, but I'm having trouble. I want a simple setup that will allow me to use my desktop, but also occasionally plug in my work laptop via just 1 cable without faffing about with moving USB cables. My setup is: - Desktop PC (For gaming, all your usual connections, including USBC (Though not for graphics card)) - Work Laptop (USB C Power/DP) - Monitor: 2 x Display Port, 1 HDMI, 2 USB A, 1 USB B - Wireless mouse and keyboard (with Logitech lightspeed dongles) My trouble is: While I CAN find a solution that would technically work, I can only find solutions with HDMI 2.0 (4K at 60Hz). I would very much prefer a Display Port outlet from a KVM. I'm concerned I'll otherwise be gimped on my desktop monitor performance. I'm running 3440x1440p with HDR, up to 165hz refresh rate. Alienware AW3423 DWF Note also: While I can also find a KVM with Display Port OUT, these I haven't been able to find with the hybrid input i need (DESKTOP: DP + USB / LAPTOP: USB C) Any suggestions?

Hi so i've been tearing my hair up finding a suitable KVM so that I can switch between my gaming pc and my work laptop. The KVM need to be able to share a keyboard, mouse, USB headset and webcam between the two devices. KVM must connect to laptop via usbc/thunderbolt 4 and charge it at atleast 60 watts. The PC's motherboard doesnt support usbc or thunderbolt 4 so the KVM should have a usb type b upstream cable. Finally the KVM must be able to share its display inputs through the usb type b and usbc to a monitor through either hdmi or display port. I understand that transferring video over usb tybe b sounds a but iffy but I have been able to achieve this with the kvm monitor that work gave me. I have to return it and its 1080p so its not really suitable anyway. Anyway any help would be appreciated. I probably have some serious knowledge gaps that you could help correct becuase im struggling on my own to find a solution.

Hello everyone! I have a problem with my current setup that I guess is pretty common for a lot of people: my new gaming PC is in a small room where I don't really have space to play VR without smashing the controllers (and myself) against the wall all the time. I would love to be able to play with my VR headset (Samsung HMD Odyssey+) in the living room, where I have the space. Also now that I have the new PC with a new GPU (Radeon 7900 XT) I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest! :) I thought of a KVM switch that carries an HDMI signal + 2 USBs could be enough (HDMI + USB for the headset and another USB for a bluetooth receiver for the hand controllers), but I have some concerns... To add more details into my situation, here's a small layout: I have a CAT6 Ethernet cable that connects the router (which by the way is the one my internet provider gave away, probably quite bad) with the PC, and another cable that connects to the living room. So here are some questions I have: Will add a KVM over Ethernet solve the problem at all? I'm definitely no expert, so maybe this is just not a viable solution. If it potentially can, then what about latency? Would VR games be playable at all with such a solution? Is CAT6 enough to transmit all that? The VR headset is 2880x1600px at 90Hz using HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0 in HDCP 2.2 and the motherboard is an Asus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS with 2.5GbE Also, if anyone has a better idea, I'm all open to it! I think I could even potentially put a different cable or install other cables if needed, but that would probably make it more complicated and is maybe an overkill... Thanks everyone!!

The only way I can make my Macbook Pro work with my Thunderbolt 4 dock + KVM switch is if I plug the dock directly to a 1440p monitor. Otherwise, it's just a black screen. Any ideas what's up, and how can I fix it? Even the mouse/keyboard isn't working. Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 dock HDMI KVM switch

Budget (including currency): $250 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 4K 144hz Gaming (PC) + 2 MacBooks Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Trying to get 3 computers working off same keyboard/mouse + have USB peripherals to work across all 3 devices. I have 2 LG Monitors, a Caldigit T3, and two Brydge docks for the MacBooks (one for air (personal) and one for MBP (work)). Been trying to find a KVM switch that supports HDMI 2.1 to two monitors, would be okay with getting rid of the Caldigit if there was a KVM within reason for 3 devices - does not need to be power over USB-C for Macs as the docks have 2 USB C (one video/one power) Has anyone seen a good HDMI 2.1 KVM for 2 Monitors with 2 or 3 sources? IR would be welcome to tie into automation via Switchbot hub. Probably will have all the USB connect to a hub for a single input to KVM. I have only found a few potential options: https://www.easycoolav.com/products/8k60hz-4k120hz-hdmi-21-usb-30-kvm-switch-2-port-dual-monitor https://cklkvm.com/products/ckl-2-port-usb-3-0-kvm-switch-dual-monitor-hdmi-8k-60hz-keyboard-video-mouse-peripherals-switcher-for-2-computers-2-monitors-with-audio-922hua-4 https://cklkvm.com/products/ckl-2-port-usb-3-0-kvm-switch-dual-monitor-displayport-1-4-8k-for-2-computers-pc-screen-keyboard-mouse-peripheral-sharing-selector-box-supports-uhd-8k-30hz-4k-144hz-4k-240hz-32-9-with-all-cables-622dp-4 **Not opposed to DisplayPort

I bought this cheap DP switch, soldered off the button switch so I can control it via an ESP8266 that is hooked up to Home Assistant. The thing is the DP switch just completely cuts off the connection from PC to the other when the button is hit which means all my windows on one monitor go to my second all messed up. Since I'm on Windows 11, when I make the switch back to my first PC all the windows go back to the place they were before which is nice. It's just annoying when I switch my main monitor all the windows get messed up on my second monitor. I was wondering if there are any good DP switches out there that keep a phantom display (I think this is called EDID?) so all the windows don't go messed up on my second monitor? Ideally it's just a DP switch and not a full KVM with USBs and stuff but that's also acceptable if the video can be switched independently from the USB ports. I have a separate USB switch that switches between PCs so I can switch my mouse and keyboard to my first PC if I want to.

Hi all, apologies if this is the wrong category but I couldnt find a more suitable one. Need some advice regarding a hardware KVM switch. I need a solution that will allow me to share two 2k monitors as well as a keyboard, mouse and several devices on a USB hub between a laptop and a PC. The laptop has a single HDMI port and two USB-C ports that can be used for display output while the PC has a single HDMI port and a DVI-D port (I am currently using a DVI to HDMI cable with this port) Both monitors have a HDMI, a HDCP port and a USB-C port for display. I need something allows for cross display (i.e PC1 to Monitor 1 and PC2 to Monitor 2) as well as extended display (i.e PC1 to Monitor 1 and 2) Needs to be able to support 60Hz. 120Hz would be desirable for future proofing. So far the only ones i've been able to find either don't support cross display or are limited to 30Hz. I am not able to use any software KVMs/KVM over IP due to operating system hardening in place on the devices. I am unable to use a hardware KVM which requires software to be installed for the same reason. Any recommendations? I don't have a budget as my workplace is paying for this.

Upon doing a quick Google search I found very little on the topic, the vast majority of posts mentioned using a Monitor. But I don't wanna assume anything, does anyone know if KVM Switches work when using a TV as display?

I'm looking for a hardware solution to use the same peripherals (mouse, keyboard and webcam) and dual monitors for my work laptop and my windows desktop. The laptop has 2 USB-C ports. I've looked online and can't find a single solution (ie. Need to buy both a dock and a KVM switch). Also from what I've read, DP is better than HDMI for NVIDIA GPUs (coz of GSync compatibility) Looking for something between $100-$250 price range (idk if that's realistic) 1. Is there a good option that can have a single USB-C input for the laptop with compatibility with the desktop? If not what's the best dock and KVM switch combo? 2. Is my conjecture that DP better than HDMI correct for my use case?

I've got a few programs like SolidWorks and Blender that I need to run. However, I was curious if running them in a VM using a hypervisor (such as KVM or Hyper-V) would result in significantly slower performance compared to just running that program in a bare metal OS. If it helps, I'll be doing some more advanced simulations (large fluid simulations) and renders that require some higher-quality images (such as SolidWorks Composer, which although not supported works just fine in a VM). I will be using graphics acceleration and, since VT-d is enabled for PCIe, a GPU passthrough would be used to the VMs. I know that it will run slower in a VM compared to the bare metal OS, but I'm wondering if the speed difference will be significant (i.e. will it take something ridiculous like twice as long for a 1 hour render).

Hello guys, I recently went from windows 10 to linux (parrotos) as my daily driver. Although I can use linux for almost 90% of all the things I want to do, there are a number of things i want/have to use windows for. The "windows 10 Pro" virtual machine is installed on my first storage device (M.2) and needs access to my entire second storage device (the HDD). Is there a way to pass my hard drive directly to my "windows 10 Pro" virtual machine? If I edit the XML file from my "windows 10 Pro" Virtual machine like I do with my linux virtual machines I cant find the hard drive anywhere. Information: Linux distro: parrotOs Kernel: Linux parrot 5.9.0-2parrot1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.9.6-2parrot1 (2020-11-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux Virtualization technology: kvm version 5.2.0 First storage device: M.2 512GB Second storage device: HDD 1TB Solution: Linux virtual machines: 1) Go to the XML file of the virtual machine 2) Edit the file like below (change "source dev" to the device you want to add). Thanks in advance.

I have a JideTech 4-port VGA KVM, and I need to extend the cables because the included ones are too short. The connection between the cable and the KVM is a standard male (cable side) to female (KVM side). All I need is a regular VGA extension cable to extend the KVM cables, the only problem is I have yet to find a FULL 15-Pin cable. I have only been able to find 9-Pin cables that they falsely call "full 15-pin". I already had to return a set of extension cables because of this. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an actual 1-1 wired 15-Pin VGA extension cable, because the KVM uses all 15-Pins. Thank you

See "systemctl status libvirtd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. I check both systemctl status libvirtd.service and journal -xe and this is what it comes up with I'm new to linux and I don't know what any of this means please help
