Current smart tv isn't very smart since it was based on vewd OS, basically it's mostly used for YouTube now, and the advertisements are getting more and more annoying. Raspberry Pi 3B+ with just 1 GB of RAM is still able to run minimal KODI. YouTube add-on from within KODI has no ads, but has problems of it's own, will not go in details. I don't know if I can really blame it for slowdowns when everything we watch is online content that relies on servers and my own router. Android does offer more options, but how much RAM would one need for it to be responsive? Shield only having max 3 GB of RAM, that's the same amount as my 12 year old laptop. From my experience android uses more RAM compared to win 7( phone uses almost 2GB with nothing launched, while win 7 around 600 MB) . Will $3000 laser projector perform worse than $150 android tv box device with 4 GB of RAM? Projector I am considering: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08FXN1SVR?th=1 The details they provide is a joke, floppy for crying out loud... I assume bright enough laser projector might be used outside in the fresh air, that's a plus during summer heat wave. I don't care much about widevine certification, because it's no good for non English content anyway, and I am trying to improve experience of users that don't speak English(my parents). Having official google play services support would save a lot of headache on the other side, so that's another reason not to order from China. I wouldn't buy new TV, when I got nowhere to put my old ones, yes multiple, already. I might get both projector and a tv box, if someone can suggest great device that ships from within EU. And I don't trust wireless too much, so device better have RJ-45 port. I know alternative is downloading a ton of content and running local media server, but that's only good for classic good stuff that you know you will want to watch again.

Is there support for kodi with floatplane? If not would the dev team be willing to open up a developer api so someone could add support?

Hi I'm looking in to the option of using a NAS like the "Synology Diskstation DS216play" as my storage device for all my local movies and TV shows. As of now I am just using a 2TB external HDD plugged in to my TV which I use to scrape my content to the app Kodi. So my question is, would it work with just plugging the NAS in to my router then access the NAS wirelessly over my home network with kodi without any stuttering or lags? or do I need to also run an internet cable from the NAS ti my TV? how much of an impact does the NAS have on the performance as well as my network speed? it says on their website that it will handle 4K content. My internet is a steady 100/100 Mbit/s fiber connection.

My head spins on this build for a while now... i kindly ask for suggestions on this. i've seen and searched some builds on youtube, in other forums, and the very nice (but almost 2 years old) build on linustechtips. although i'm a pc->console->mac->linux-guy, i was never really into pc-hardware-builds. but i repair everything on my car and can use a Dremel... I'm not shy to ask a workmate (pc guy) to help me wiring everything, but he's not the one who can calculate my amount of power, since he's got no clue when it comes to emus... I'm sticking to the given advice in the sticky: Location: Germany Budget: reasonably priced, but not limited. (i think we're more space- and watts-limited here) Aim: 1. I'm looking for a machine, that can emulate at least every or most console(s) featured in Emulationstation (up to Wii right now, but i could live without that one in particular) in a very natural and pleasing way! At least i want it to run MKs and MetalSlugs flawlessly. Since I would like to have a video preview on every game, maybe some of you would rather recommend hyperspin. 2. It should also be capable of Kodi without a hassle. That is the HTPC-part, or let's say BTPC, since that thing might be used for gaming in the bedroom. 3. It should also be used as a PC/Linux Elementary/or virtual machine via a seperate SSD or USB or boot partition to maybe flash a phone or every task that needs to be taken (which is the case once or twice a year). But it's daily use is to play games and videos. 4. maybe (but not a must) Steam for non-high-end-games... Monitors: Just a 42" or a 60" TV for now. Space: my greatest concern is to fit everything into the standard 1985 NES-case. I'd like to build it on a platform and just slide the case over or around it. I have a case, that is a bit roughworn, so i'm looking to paint it either in original grey, or in high gloss black, just to match it to other hardware. i think the case is the critical part, when it comes to power consumption restrictions of cpu and gpu. i don't have a problem with an external power unit. Peripherals: i'm considering fancy retro-looking, but wireless, Controllers (NES form or maybe SNES form if available) for switching through the menues. or at least a PS4-controller. i also saw a little gadget that makes it possible to use the original NES-controller which is converted to usb on the inside of the case (but that might be useless when having a wireless controller) Hardware-Presets: I might want a Mini-ITX-board with full M2-compatibility, since i want the preview-videos of every game available to load fast while browsing through the menu, i plan on putting them on a M2. The roms itself will be on an extra HDD or SSD. It's more about quality than about quantity. Also latest Intel-CPU, a Geforce-Graphics-Card, and a good pile of RAM. So: can this be done? what does it cost me? what parts do you recommend?

The European Court of Justice this week ruled that production of Jodi Boxes is now illegalmovies or any sort of media without the right holders' permission is ILLegal NOTE: Just a small update. Streaming movies has always been illegal anyway. Streaming really is just as bad as downloading movies. Example with Kodi streams are downloaded into a temporary file. I see this more as a statement that attention will be brought to the matter of media streaming content that is illegal and that action will take place.l Now owning Kodi itself is NOT illegal. Kodi's main purpose was to stream your own virtual library content. If the content belongs to you it is perfectly legal. However, if you use a third party addonthat allows you to view movies then that is copyright infringement If you know someone who streams movies or any sort of media for "free" please inform them about this UPDATE I'd like to sincerely apologize for my false information. I myself was misinformed about this situation. This law is not against watching Kodi streams but to prevent Kodi add-on box production. I cannot apologize enough from my mistake. This post is going to be privated in the morning to save myself the embarrassment. I apologize for my mistake. I should have done more thorough research on this matter. Really sorry guys Pdf document http://curia.europa.eu/jcms/upload/docs/application/pdf/2017-04/cp170040en.pdf

My cousin had an issue with the his computer locking up while streaming on some sites, also occurred on sites with auto playing video adds. He tried to reinstall windows, and then he asked me to fix it up. He also complained the system was very hot and it did thermal shut down on him a couple times I also set him up with kodi I've narrowed it down to the GPU Saphire Radeon 6870 I can reliably recreate the freeze up, but I can't figure out why it is happening or what could be doing it. The issue I have scene: The computer will freeze up. The image on the screen remains, the system is still powered up, numlock does not respond mouse does not move and so on. Kodi 17.1 there is no picture or audio when the video loads but the counter is moving, Relevant Specs: AMD 965BE Asus M5A88V-EVO corsair vengeance DDR3 2x4gb Saphire Radeon 6870 Corsair TX850 PSU For trouble shooting purposes: The system was full of dust, it was bad. I was surprised he didn't fry the cpu or gpu. FIrst thing I did was blow out the dust I put new thermal paste on the CPU I reinstalled windows updates and most recent drivers for everything on the system, issue still occurring I replaced the power supply issue still occurring reinstalled windows again this with the bare minimum updates to get Kodi 17.1 working and a latest gpu drivers, issue still occurring Tried older drivers still occurs I put R7 370 in the system, ran Kodi 17.1 it worked perfect, ran some furmark, prime 95, for over an hour system is perfectly stable I put the 6870 back in run furmark and prime 95s all around test for 2 hours system is fine no issues. Start up Kodi 17.1 system freezes or there is no picture or audio when the video loads but the counter is moving, When you try to move forward you get a frame with video then the system locks up. Kodi 16.1 works perfect no freezing, I let youtube play videos for a hour no freezing. He has it back and will let me know if it continues to happen and what sites it is happening on. What I would like to know is this. Is there something in the gpu or on the pcb that relates specifically to video pay back that may have been damaged by over heating that may be related to how some video codecs or programs interact with the hardware decoding of the video??? That the only thing I can think of. Since it appears to work perfect with version 16.1 of kodi I'm wondering if its a new standard or something.

My old home server died recently and i'm looking to build a new one. Last one ran for 7 years and I'm hoping to get as many years from the new one. mITX form factor with @ least 4 HDD. Uses: Kodi server, host small website, and pc backups. Current thought is running Ubuntu wit the three HDD in a JBOD with zfs file system for redundancy. My question is, does anyone see a problem with my current thought for the build. Anything I'm missing, or thats overkill? I recently have had this problem with my samsung laptop, where when i watch Kodi the audio begins to stutter and finally either stops working completely or hangs up on one spot and makes an annoying repeating sound. I first thought that it might be my laptop speakers, but i plugged in my apple earpods that otherwise work and it still did it. This leads me to believe that it is a software issue. I have checked all drivers and they are up to date. I also use this laptop to talk in a teamspeak lobby and it doesnt seem to occur then. So that would mean that it is Kodi's issue then. But when ever it makes the repeating sound it doesnt matter if Kodi is open or not, the sound does not stop until the laptop is completely shut down. I ahve tried everything to my knowledge and i dont know where to go from here.

I'm writing this as much for personal future use as for anyone else who needs it - I did this once before, then forgot how I did it and wasted half an hour trying to piece it together again. So without further ado, add the repo to your apt sources by adding the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://download.osmc.tv/dev/gmc-18 gmc-18 main get the gpg keys: wget http://download.osmc.tv/dev/gmc-18/pubkey.asc sudo apt-key add pubkey.asc update your sources: sudo apt update install kodi: sudo apt install kodi Enjoy!

I found a floatplane kodi plugin on github: https://github.com/MrWolvetech/plugin.video.floatplaneclub I installed it and its dependencies on a RPi 3 that I have and very promptly ran into a bug, so I wrote a fix: https://github.com/MrWolvetech/plugin.video.floatplaneclub/pull/1 It works rather nicely. Why doesn't floatplane talk about it?

1. Budget & Location €300, not including drives for storage. Belgium, best supplier of parts has been amazon.de in my experience. 2. Aim (& 3. Monitors) This is my first build so I have no idea what I'm doing. I want to run Kodi for a 60" HDTV, so I'm looking for 1080p video over HDMI, sound is with a Bose setup so I'm assuming HDMI is fine for that. I'm disregarding 4K playback because I figure swapping out the CPU & mobo when the time comes will be cheap. Please disabuse me of this notion if it's retarded. Not sure if being able to play 4K sources at 1080p would come at quite the same premium? Priorities: Smooth 1080p playback Silence Small / low power Main purpose would be watching series and serving as a backup server with NFS, 4-6 storage drives. It would be great if I could run party games like Overcooked and Gang Beasts and some emulators but definitely just nice-to-have. 4. Peripherals I'm comfortable running linux. Wireless keyboard's a must and PS/WII controller support would be nice if emulators are an option at all. 5. Why are you upgrading? Currently sideload Kodi on an Apple TV but it's too involved for the rest of the family to do this so this hinges on me getting around to it and I don't until we decide to watch someting and it's inconvenient. Don't have a backup solution yet either so that would require a new machine anyway. 6. Current plan Followed this guide resulting in this €324 build: HTPC 1 However, the case is too small for the amount of drives I'd like, maybe 6+1 drives is an unrealistic expectation for small form factor though. Build supposedly supports 4K and the psu is seriously overrated so maybe I can go cheaper? This doesn't include any cooling whatsoever and I'm not sure about bluetooth (for keyboard), no idea if this is a problem though. Went with the cheapest item from the first brand I recognized for ram, drive and psu. Followed this other guide resulting in this €361 build: HTPC 2 This one includes a passive cooler but I'm not sure it's compatible with the cpu I picked (the one from the guide was €350) also not sure the mobo is suitable. The case fits 6 2.5" drives if I understood correctly so that gives me 4 storage drives (want to use Raid 10), ideally it'd be 3.5" drives but I'll take what I can get. Both these builds are over budget though so I'm looking for some recommendations, especially about cases that take 6x3.5" + 1(any size) system drive and psus that could take the full system load without roaring. I'm flexible when it comes to form factor, going up to atx if it's a way better deal size is very much a want but not a need. P.S. Please, no RGB whatsoever, light pollution is almost as bad as noise pollution ; )

Okay I'm at my wit's end. How the heck can I build a computer responsible for home automation. Pre requisites, must be small, must not require more than air cooling, must be 3 1/2 inch thick - up to 24 inch height - max 14 inch wide. Touch screen, transcode minimum of 3 mpeg streams at once with power to spare. Blue ray drive. It will be running Kodi and Linux. How can I make this all work together? I know I need processing power but how can I get it small enough to be installed in a wall hidden....

Hello. Had/getting rid of a crappy Roku 2 X-D and am trying to Install Kodi, LibreELEC, or something similar however I run into the massive issue of "It's all no longer supported because 32-bit is too old". Well call me old fashioned and wanting to use my hardware laying around instead of just letting it catch the dust bunnies. I have an HP Thin Client with a 1-core atom x86 processor with 4GB of RAM. I'd really like to put it on a stick because I don't have any adapters for my hard drives laying about, nor IDE SSD's. I know I could just throw something like Lubuntu or PuppyLinux on it, but I would prefer something with super ease of use as this will go in the living room for my mom. Having plugins/add-ons to expand it like Kodi would also be a massive bonus. Thanks in advanced for any help. PS: I don't want to use the older 5.x versions of LibreELEC or Kodi because the plugins wouldn't work.

We all knew it was inevitable and it's finally here. A dealer of Android TV Boxes is pleading not guilty to three charges brought against him. Brian Thompson of the UK is set to appear in court October 27th. This is the first ever prosecution that relates to the sale of Android TV / Kodi devices Brian told press: “I’m just standing up for myself - I’m going to fight it.” I'm quite curious to see how this turns out, as I have been a big fan of Kodi for awhile. The ruling on this case should set a precedent for the future of streaming of this caliber. Hey! Looking to build a cheap HTPC for Kodi, the highest res. content I would be outputting (is that the right word?) to my TV is 1080p. My budget is around £60. Due to the budget, I was thinking I may have to (although this may not be a bad thing) get an Android TV Box. Could someone recommend me an android TV box for £60 (or under, preferably) that would be efficient in running Kodi or an HTPC which could do the same? Thanks!!

Ok i got an amazon fire TV stick with kodi loaded on it. At first i was impressed with the selection, but that trailed(On kodi). I just have a few questions that I can not seem to find any good answers for (Mainly with kodi being on fire TV stick) Is their any way to have a favorites list so i don't have to go through a maze of pages to find a show and episode (like Netflix or Hulu)? I don't really know if this is kodi or the actual hardware but a lot of the shows I have tried lag pretty bad(By the way my router is literately less than 3 ft from the Fire TV stick)? How would i load skins to kodi being kodi is not on a physical PC, and maybe a few recommendations for skins that work well with the fire TV stick. I am not having any problem with the software on the fire TV it is just specifically the kodi app on it. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello LTT community, I recently started planning on a tiny HTPC for my FullHD TV. I will mainly use it with Kodi Media Center but also for surfing with Chrome and streaming some games via Steam InHomeStreaming and a Steam Controller. I also wanted it to be future proof aka being able to play 4K videos if possible. I will also hook it up to an existing sound system together to some other stuff so I need either optical audio out or coaxial audio out. My receiver does not have HDMI in and the optical output of the TV doesn't seem to be 5.1 (but rather only 2.0 for some reason). The Intel NUCs seemed to be what I was looking for but they have only HDMI out (except for the older ones which have optical audio out). I need your help because I'm afraid to go either overpower or underpower. I did already build my first PC so I have some kind of builder experience. THANK YOU very much, sincerely, Mattia_98
