Does anyone know how accessible an Oasis is when it comes to 3rd-party books? I currently have like 600 Epubs (that can be converted if necessary) on my computer, but I'm unsure how much of a hassle it is and how well books obtained outside of their store work on it. On another note, should I use the Kindle Oasis or the Samsung Tab A8? A family member bought me both because the Kindle they were trying to get me had shipping issues and wouldn't arrive in time for Christmas, so they picked up the Tab at a physical store to try and substitute instead. Any help would be appreciated, never used an E-reader "tablet" before.

Hey Linus, I challenge you to fit ALL of Wikipedia onto a kindle. Believe it or not, Wikipedia has all of it's articles available for download (as of June 2015) on this 3rd party website The Rules - You have a $1000 budget - External Storage is allowed, but it has to be flush (like a micro SD expansion slot on an S7), no external drives or anything like that, and you can't make the case bigger or use any wireless drives. - Internal Storage upgrades are allowed as well (cramming in an SSD or upgrading flash within the case). - You need to be able to access all of the books without any network connections or Bluetooth. - You must use the most up to date version of Wikipedia available if there is another. - The table of contents isn't required - It can be in the form of more than one book, if putting it in one book would take forever, but someone has to be able to scroll through that list in under a minute. - Bonus points if it isn't slower than an Apple 2 running Crysis 3 at max settings - Bonus points if it can run Crysis afterwards - The total weight can't be more than 750 grams - It has to be portable afterwards - The internals can be modified to open up space, as long as any replacement parts are at the same level or better than the previous, and the battery lasts at least 30% as long as the original device while reading. - You can use an off the shelf case for the kindle, but keep in mind the weight limit - You need to be able to use it as a kindle, so no firmware flashing or anything of the sort. If the lovely people down in the comments have any ideas, Ill be happy to add them in. Thanks and have a great day!

Japanese media PC Watch reported, that Amazon will launch a "Cartoon/Manga Model" of the Kindle PaperWhite in Japan, which said was focusing on comics and art . It has 32GB of internal memory, 8 times more than the traditional 4GB of regular Kindle. Besides the mass storage, this special Kindle will have a few additional software features, like "rapid page turn", which is 33 percent faster than the traditional page-turning effect on regular Kindles, or the ability to skip pages at a rate of 7 pages per seconds via a ”press and hold“ gesture, and a two-page spread layout for viewing pages side-by-side. In the press release, Amazon JP stated that these new software features will be available to other Kindles at the end of Oct via software update. This special version is now available to pre-order on Amazon JP for 16,280 yen ($157), or 12,280 yen ($118) for Amazon Prime members, which is 2,000 yen ($19) more than the regular Kindle PaperWhite. Also this model is available on WiFi models only. For those who live in other countries, unfortunately it seems this model will be Japan only. http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1025288.html (in Japanese) https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/press/pr/20161018/ref=amb_link_79891249_1?pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=FET9F9H5Y0B3MAQHPMN9&pf_rd_t=2701&pf_rd_p=365263849&pf_rd_i=home-2016 (in Japanese) http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/10/18/13314932/kindle-paperwhite-manga-model-announced-amazon-japan http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/a-kindle-for-your-manga-amazon-launches-32gb-paperwhite-for-japan/

So I happen to have this brand new Kindle Fire 7" from Amazon that I got less than 2 weeks ago. It just seemed to randomly happen. It hasn't been dropped but if it was, it has the child protection case to protect it. It's not the invert color option in the settings, it's not overheating. I did a factory restore and the software is updated. Do you guys think that its a hardware problem? If so, then I can just return it through the Amazon 90 day warranty. I just wanted to make sure if there was anything else I should try before getting in contact with Amazon.

So, I have an Amazon Kindle Fire. It's nice; however, the issue is that its very limiting. Is there a "better" way of rooting it so that it can be an "Android" tablet instead of limited by Amazon firmware? I want to use it in conjunction with my PC, however, I'll need MS Mobile Office and some emulators that are on Google Play Store but not Amazon. My phone works, but the tablet is bigger, and I'd rather have the larger screen to work with while also not draining my phone's battery. Any guidance would be great. I've seen stuff online, but I don't want to grab the wrong software and brick my stuff out of the gate. Thanks in advance.

Hi! I've been thinking about the Kindle paperwhite for weeks as a holiday gift to my SO. It's either that or the first hard bound book of Saga. She's into fantasy literature but she's read most of it already (I wish she was lying so I have more gift options but alas, she's legit). So she reads more from little publishers nowadays (or that's what I think she's doing) Anyways. How's the Kindle? Is the book selection big enough that they also have -underground- stuff? I wish I knew the authors she's reading but I don't. Sad. Anyways, I hear you can load PDF's into it to read and annotate (highlight). How does that work if the PDF file has graphics? She's a masters student so she does quite a bit of academic reading too I'm bothered whenever she uses a LCD screen to read her PDF's and eBooks. She already has bad vision and the LCD screens aren't helping.

Hello Internet! My new place has no space for shelves, so the option of buying an ereader is getting stronger. I'd be interested in a good ereader for about € 200, one that's good displaying PDF and all kinds of ebook extensions. I would also like downloading ebooks directly and not by connecting it to a PC or laptop with an external internet conection. I have heard that Kindle is the best brand in the market but it can give compatibility issues. I accept suggestions! Thank you very much in advance.

recently got an old amazon kindle and would really like to change it's OS so that it feels snappy and also so that I can use and download a wider variety of stuff(kinda like how it is on android where you can download virtually almost any app via google play or as an APK). I would like to know how to do it and also what OS to use. (side-note:Would phoenix os work?).

Hi everyone! I was looking to buy a tablet for a friend of mine, as he has a lot of down time during work. He likes to watch a lot of anime so I wanted to help him out. I was looking to get the new Kindle Fire HD8 that just came out as seeing he'd only watch stuff or check facebook I thought it would be perfect. But then I also came across the Tab 4, which is a lot older but looks like is much more powerful and it has the play store. What do you guys think? Any recommendations are appreciated!

Hi guys I'm new here at the community, allthough I've been watching a lot of Linus tech tips on YT. I really love the tips and tricks and it seems to be a nice community with lots adn lots of knowledge. With that said, here's my problem:... I have a Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2 which is stuck on boot, I can't get past the "Tree of life" bootscreen, I don't even get a progress bar that seems to load... It is just the picture with the child reading underneath the tree... And that's it. I have seen the charging icon with a battery a flash and charger illustrated, but as soon as i try top start it notrhing happens. Neither soft reset, hard reset or anything else seems to work. Does somebody here recognise this problem? Any tips & tricks on how to solve it? Best regards Niklas

Over in the UK, Amazon seems to be releasing a new tablet on the 30th of September. It looks like this: Minus the stupidly large bezel, I don't mind the size. It's priced at a cheap 49.99(GBP) and it will have access to the Amazon Appstore, which isn't that far off Google Play. Amazon's Notes Beautiful 7" IPS display (171 ppi / 1024 x 600) Fast 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and rear- and front-facing cameras Amazon Underground: All-new, one-of-a-kind app store experience where thousands of apps, games and in-app items are actually free -- including extra lives, unlocked levels, unlimited add-on packs and more Prime members can stream thousands of Prime Instant Video titles, access over 800,000 book titles, thousands of audiobooks and over a million songs Prime members can download thousands of Prime Instant Video movies and TV shows to watch offline anywhere Enjoy more than 38 million songs, movies, TV shows, books, apps and games Free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with Fire devices. Hi, I need to choose an ereader/general use tablet to get a special someone a present. Which one should I go for? The Amazon Fire HD 6 or the Kindle Paperwhite? The Kindle is better for reading I know but the HD 6 is more versatile. Which one?

Good news for those who still read.. Kindle has a new update for the device & it's really a solid update, with this update it introduced Family Library function, which finally makes e-books from Amazon more like paperbacks in that they can be shared freely between family members. You’ll get the chance to link two accounts to a device, which can include a spouse or partner, rather than having to share a single account across devices. The two paired accounts can also jointly supervise and control up to four child’s accounts too. Also other new feature : Word Wise For readers learning English and children learning to read, Word Wise makes it easier to understand more challenging books more quickly. Short and simple definitions automatically appear above difficult words, so you can keep reading without having to stop and look up a word. To see the various meanings the same word can have in different contexts, just tap on the word to quickly bring up a card with definitions, synonyms, and more. You can adjust the number of definitions you see with a slider, dialing them up or down as you learn and grow your vocabulary. Kindle FreeTime Unlimited For as little as $2.99 per month, kids get unlimited access to hundreds of hand-picked chapter books and early readers, all curated for age-appropriateness, so parents don’t have to spend time and money guessing what their kids will enjoy. Expanded X-Ray for Books X-Ray now makes it easier to explore as you read quickly flip through all the images in a book, and use the new timeline view to easily browse the most notable passages. Deeper Goodreads Integration Goodreads on Kindle now allows you to easily share your reading progress updates, add books from your Kindle library to your Goodreads shelves, and see your friends’ updates, ratings and reviews when looking at a book on Goodreads. About This Book See information about the book as you start to read, including its place in a series and author information, plus mark it as “Currently Reading” on Goodreads Enhanced Search Makes it even easier to find what you are looking for by combining and previewing results from your Library, Goodreads and the Kindle Store on the same page. Pretty solid update imo , something more of a solid usable update These features will be delivered automatically as part of a free, over-the-air software update in the coming weeks which will be done automatically or if you're impatient & you want to do a manual update to your kindle head over to this link below : (Secure Verified original link) www.amazon.com/kindlesoftwareupdates http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200529680 Please leave your thought & comments on this or leave a rant down beloooooooooooooooooowww Bonus: Link: http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=176060&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1989870

So here is the situation, i wanted to root the kindle fire HD 8.9. i used the backup and restore method but silly me thinking i had pressed restore, went and unplugged it half way through (very embarrassed to admit that). it ended up being that i had a kindle that was extremely laggy and did not load things correctly and some text was blurry and glitchy. At this point i decided to flash a different ROM onto it and all was going well i follew the steps correctly and the flash was "successful" according to the program. I proceeded to turn on the kindle and it was stuck on the kindle fire logo ( the one that's before the OS loads up). I don't know what to do about it.Would getting a new motherboard work ?

Amazon is working on a new Kindle Smartphone which will be manufactured by HTC. A new leaked document shows that the upcoming phone codename "Project Aria" will launch in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America (they didn’t mention Canada) and will run a modified version of Android similar to the one featured on the Kindle Fire HD this means that there won’t be no any Google services or Google branded applications on the device, Amazon is even implementing its own App Store. The device is expected to launch late 2014 but Amazon is very worried on the amount of content that will be available in countries outside the US. I have rooted and installed TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) and FFF (FireFireFire) and the Google GO Launcher on my Kindle Fire. Then I used it for a few months. All of a sudden at random it would keep shutting down and booting in TWRP. I messed around seeing what I could do and then out of nowhere I went to shut it down and I get a horrible message! There is no OS installed are you sure you want to reboot? I had no recovery and no OS and nothing. So I look up a few things on the internet and decided to flash the old stock OS on it. I did so and it took off TWRP and FFF and EVERYTHING the worst part is that I STILL don't have an OS. It will just show the stock Orange Kindle Fire logo on it. I'm not sure what I did to it! If you need anymore information about my problem please just ask. I'm willing to tell you anything that you need to know. Thanks for all the help you give me!
