Hello, I‘m new here. Looking for some decent quality Headphones for a child’s head/ears. Nothing crazy but comparable to the ATH mx50 maybe. I already found the JBL JR310 but I have very little hope in terms of sound quality tbh.

Hi, I am looking for advice as to whether to buy a tablet or a chromebook for my kids. My budget is £200 and the main uses would be for SeeSaw (app used for their school work. The app isn't available on Chromebooks, but you can access through the website.), and YouTube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Trying to find the episode, or a clip- it wasn't reuploaded to LMG Clips though (kind of surprisingly, I really expected to find it easily as a clip reupload) so it's hard to find. In the episode Linus discussed how he and Yvonne manage their kids' tech/internet/videogame etc consumption. One notable point he made was about not giving his kids a phone until they prove their maturity and trustworthyness by going a certain amount of time without telling any lies/fibs, and just demonstrating that they are responsible. It must have been a 10 minute long discussion in total, and I'd love to find it again as I was really able to get behind their philosophy around this part of parenting, would love to watch it again and show it to my SO among other people. Especially as it's coming from such a techy family, and even more so coming from Linus, THE tech guy! If anyone remembers approx when the episode aired, that'd be a great start as I can sift through the chapters from the episodes of the time. Even better if you remember the exact episode! Tyvm all

Hey there, I'm looking to build my daughter a cheap PC to run some learning games and teach her typing (shes 5) I'm in Canada and can get a q6600 for 25$ on eBay, I was just wondering besides looking for a LGA 775 socket mobo. Should it have any other features? does it need to say it supports core 2 quad? some of the mobos I looked at don't specify and only support DDR ram. She's currently using a PC with Athlon 64 x2 4000 and its just really slow and laggy.

I have to say one of my most loved games as a kid was the first videogame as a kid. The game was SSX Tricky. I was introduced to it when I was about 4 and from there I started to understand and grow up with videogames. What games were your guy's childhoods?

OK so I've been working on learning PowerShell and as it's Daddy weekend I decided to show my kids some fun things that you can do with PowerShell and naturally it didn't work... Lol What I'm trying to do seems like it would be pretty basic but I'm either making it too difficult or missing something. Lol The goal is to have a script or text file that I can enter my children's information in to like this: #Daughter's Information $daughterInfo = @( $firstName = "Sarah" $lastName = "Marshall" $birthday = "October 12th, 2006" $gender = "Her" ) #Son's Information $sonInfo = @ ( $firstName = "Shaun" $lastName = "Marshall" $birthday = "January 30th, 2010" $gender = "His" ) On the second script I would like to write-Host and then write out a bunch of text that will list all the information from the first script but I want to just be able to change one thing so that it pulls information from the correct area. [In PowerShell] Please Select a Child 1. Sarah 2. Shaun [Here you would choose a child, Let's say I chose Shaun] Write-Host "This is some information about $sonInfo.FirstName" Write-Host "Full Name - $sonInfo.firstName $sonInfo.LastName" Write-Host "$sonInfo.gender birthday is $sonInfo.birthday" [PowerShell Output] This is some information about Shaun Full Name - Shaun Marshall His birthday is January 30th, 2010 So obviously I want it to list out more than that but if someone can show me the basic way I should be able to figure out the rest (hopefully) Lol I did Google but I wasn't sure exactly how to word the search... Thanks, Ryan

I think about 4gb ram 500Gb storage maximum I have problems choosing a good and cheap processor... The big question is what processor should I choose thinking of windows 10 (sorry for bad english) Do you recommend buying a motherboard with and already installed cpu?

So I have a 10-year-old daughter that is really getting into computers. She tore apart a laptop and successfully put it back together and I would like to show her a little programming in C# that is something fun for her. I have seen the tic-tac-toe game that you can make along with the ping pong game and those aren't bad but I would like to have a tutorial that we could follow along that's something a little more in-depth. I was thinking about finding a tutorial for something like making an old Super Mario game (I did find one tutorial for this) but I just wanted to know if anyone knew of anything else out there. I think she'll really find this fun and when she gets everything written I think she'll absolutely love having something that she created herself. It's Daddy weekend so I think this would be a good project for us. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have done some googling but all I could really find was that simple tic-tac-toe game or advanced 3D games in Unity and that Super Mario-like game. Thanks for your help! Just finished watching yesterday WAN show from Italy, yeah when it's live it's kinda night here. So what about a video on how to setup a phone for kids usage, i found really interesting Linus' notifications on everything happening. It would be very helpfull for parents/older siblings (yeah I am +18 from my sister and she won't go out till 30s ! ? ).

Budget (including currency): ~$300 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: My kids play Roblox games and may need to do home schooling on it. They have saved $300 so far. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Would be easiest to order online due to living in the country and quaratinne. I have diminished lungcapacity.

So I want to build a PC for my niece and nephew, they are aged 12 and 8 respectively. I figured out what sorta hardware to use given my budget and I thing I nailed this part down to the sweet spot My problem is that I do not want just to give them a blank box capable of gaming and browsing etc. This is going to be their first computer (they used computers but for example their fathers etc) I can not make one for each because I am budget limited but I would like at least to make this one as fun exciting and educational as possible. But I dont have the slightest idea on how to start.... I mean is the best one can do to add a bunch of educational software (in that case which do you consider as the "best" from you experience) Or are there any desktop mods or scripts that can transform their experience and show them the ropes on computing (like for example the kano kit ) Generally advice me with whatever you think will be useful to make this first computer a memorable experience for the children both in terms of fun but also in educational value. And if you dont have time to explain how you would set up such a thing at least copy paste some links with useful material anything is welcomed! I thank you all in advance.

So I know that this topic is not tech related but the General Discussion thread is place that people can post anything right? So I am not a parent myself but today at the Biology class we learnt something that might help a lot of you! So I am a high school student and today at the biology class we were talking about brain's nerve cells. So at a point our teacher told us that at the age of 1-6 is when the human body start creating a lot of brain nerve cells and that we should know that when we will become parents. That's because (she continued ) the more stuff young kids get to wrap their head around at those young ages the more nerve cells they produce which can help a lot on rising the person's IQ and having stronger nerve cells links. Things like getting your kids to the zoo seeing how the animals act on different situations, showing them something that will make them think more in order to understand, going on trips and to different places etc. helps a lot on creating more nerve cells and increasing the person's IQ. So yeah I am sorry if that was kinda un-related but I hope it helped out some of you. Hope you are having a wonderful day folks

Folks of the wise community that be LTT... I have purchased my 5, and 6 year old kids Alienware Alpha computers. (https://goo.gl/photos/DVmjoYVa6UaRfR7u6) These have been wonderful little devices and handle all the games I can throw at them just fine. Yet one of the compromises of this machine is lack of standard audio jacks. Thus finding headphones that work with it well severely limits the selection. My kids live and breath gaming online with their cousins and each other. Whether it be Minecraft, Gary's Mod, or Team Fortress 2 my kids love being able to group chat/call with the gameplay. So I've been using the Logitech USB comfort headsets. They are cheap say ($20-30) but they are brittle. Kids are rough with things and they work fine until the kids sit on them by accident or pull them off their head aggressively. I'm tired of buying cheap plastic headphones. Looking for something more robust. That can bend and flex with the kids neglect of the headsets. I bought USB Audio Adapter with 3.5mm Speaker/Headphone and Microphone Jacks and tried that approach as well. They USB plug doesn't deal well with the cord being tugged at all, and break really easily. The sound quality is waaaay worse than the other options. I'm willing to re-approach any of these approaches and wouldn't even mind a bluetooth option if the battery life is stellar. Sound quality coming second to durability... please say someone out there has found a decent headset that can fit my needs?

In the last wan show Luke told he is never going to have kids... why?!? He would be an awesome dad in my mind... He has more daddy material vibe than Linus... Linus looks like an toddler compared to him... Luke is not mature, he's an forever young male adult always a mischeafous child deep down inside. So what is the backstory to no kids for Luke... this makes me sad. I want to see Luke juniors =) The would certainly look awesome as well. Why Luke, oh god why? Are you sick... dyeing? Cancer? No... no........no... but i digress... as this is a mess of a thread.... nothing worth... dead.

So during the April 24th edition of WAN show, Linus was telling us about his plight that is screaming children on a packed plane. I thought I'd share this discovery with him and y'all. So when my daughter was 10 months, we were flying to Mexico. While my daughter was being good (thanks in part to breastfeeding), the kid directly behind us, not so much. However, the couple that was sitting directly in front of us, who were obviously seasoned travelers, offered the kid noisy kids (and my daughter) double lollies. And by golly it worked wonders! We talked with the couple in front of us after and they said that every trip they go on now they pack a number of them specifically for that purpose... and from now on, I will too. For those that don't know, a lot of kids have troubles clearing the pressure in their ears on planes. That's why they say to chew gum and stuff on planes because it helps by getting you to do the things that relieve the pressure. Sucking on candy does the same thing. On top of that, kids get bored *really* easily... and candy generally makes people happy... so its a win-win.

Looking for recommendations for educational and/or wholesome games or otherwise interactive media for 5/6 year olds. I haven't the slightest idea where to begin. I somewhat recall something like turtle academy when I was in elementary school rocking the schools 286 5.25" floppy 10" CRT with maybe 8 whole colours and no HDD. Though I think its a bit advanced for my niece at the moment (next month maybe different, her braincase is starting to explode). And yes I'm asking mostly because I'd be okay with being the kewl uncle that gets left in peace when the 3ft mobile noise maker gets dropped off to wreak havoc and spread germs at my place. PC preferred. phone & tablet apps too I guess, but...I'm not keen on sharing those toys...

Safe Search Finallly Google officials are in talks in developing a Kids safe version of their ever popular search engine , The site is mainly aimed for Kids that are 12 & Below, The News Comes courtesy of USA today with an interview with Googles VP of engineering, who is being tasked with leading Google's upcoming initiative to make their suite of products, from Gmail to YouTube into a more kid friendly user experience. beginning next year 2015 the tech giant plans to create specific versions of its most popular products for those 12 and younger. The most likely candidates are those that are already popular with a broad age group, such as search, YouTube and Chrome. Google will make them safe for children 12 years old and younger and give parents tools to oversee their kids' actions the Google search engine isn't remotely the same as an adult's. (nope duh) Controversy may well follow in the wake of Google's drive. While tech companies are always seeking out new markets, which in turn expand their user base and ultimately drive up revenue, traditionally kids younger than 13 have been off limits. company expects some controversy over the change, but that kids are already using Google's non-kid-friendly technology. Pavni Diwanji VP google What also is being worked out are the ways in which parents will be able to oversee their child's interactions with Google's technologies, perhaps limiting usage to set time frames. "We want to lay the foundation right, and then make sure every single part of Google is great for kids. They are the future, so why not give them the tools to let them create it." Pretty exciting news imo, Google haven't yet announced which specific items they are working on or the timeline line only that the search engine & browser & it's current active services such as google chrome , image search & YouTube are confirmed, What are your thoughts on this? Post your comments & rants down below.. So i got the hearthfire DLC and dragonborn about a week ago. And i immediately built the house in the background (Windstad manor or something) Then i defeated miraak and got bored enough to adopt two kids. A day later the courier shows up. Gives me a letter. AND NEVER LEAVES  Is this a common bug? Or did i just get the only hearthfire dlc where the courier is a kiddyfiddler?? Even if they are just bits of code and a bit of texture i just don't feel right letting the kids play outside Will i still get letters and stuff if he slips and explodes in a massive fireball? Is he even killable? And since i've started a thread i might as well ask if you've had any creepy things happen in games (that weren't supposed to happen)

...and before you guys call the cops, here's the story: After several months, I finally managed got to clean my desktop (sig) this afternoon. As I bought the computer out to the garage, I noticed kid in his bike with his younger sister (around 7-8 yrs old) were playing around. So, I began doing stuff then those two kids noticed me. The boy walked up to my home's gate and said, 'nice PC!', I smiled and before I was able to say 'thank you', his little sister asked aloud: "IS IT CROSSFIRE?!". I was shocked and couldn't believe what I just heard. Then I finally managed to answer: "no, I don't have a second card..". The girl just said, "ahhhh my brother's pc sucks". Is there an app in android/iOS called "crossfire"? Heck, I never imagined a seven year-old girl would ask me about a graphics card, let alone ask for a DUAL card solution! hahaha.. nice weekend!

Hi all, My dads came to me asking if i build him two gaming computers for ~£250 each. I told him that its going to be an incredibly tough job, as you're most likely looking nearer the £500 for a machine thats worthy of gaming but he wants me to go ahead with it anyway and do my best. Luckily enough i have 2 7850's which i was just about to sell so i said he could have them for a cut price at £50 each. This is what i have so far, can anyone offer any suggetions to get more performance for the price or even make it cheaper for similar performance as its currently costing £320 per system http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/list/215839 Cheers
