6 years... my 2500K is nearly a grandpa... but an awesome one! Slightly OC since I got it and never had any problem. But as my girl needs a stable PC and I was planing to upgrade mine, I think it is time for an all new long lasting gaming machine (woohooo)... Basically I already have a gtx970 with currently no need to upgrade caus I can play all my games for now and my girl doesn't need her PC for gaming in first place - but I am also planing to get a 1070 maybe later this year. So if she will use mine, I want to have a new one that will last as long as possible. What do you guys think? Would you say 4c kaby is enough or go with 4c/8t kaby? Do you think 6c/ht will pay off considering "future" advanced tech like Vulkan and dx12 or is it a too lang way off? OH and: As AMDs Ryzen sounds really nice, you think I should consider one of them or better wait till we know more about them? Most of the time I am playing Videogames (MMO, FPS) and I want to play games like star citizen (IF it will come out before I die) in future with no "ffs my CPU is not strong enough for this sh*t"-moments. Some of my time I use to work with the Adobe Creative Cloud caus I am a graphic designer but I am not planing to cut/edit/render videos or something. Sorry for my bad english, I hope you all know what I mean and please don't kill me for my superficial knowledge^^ Thanks in advice for any help

Hi. Long time no see. Finally, after five years I got a chance to build my first water cooled rig. Before five years I build my first PC after I worked all summer. All knowledge came from Linus. I discovered him when was searching for GTX560ti reviews. Specs wasnt anything special but for me it was something huge at that time. Core I5 2500K (which I got to 5GHz) Patriot Viper 3 8Gb @ 1866 MHz MSI P67A-GD65 (which died after 5 mounth) Asus GTX560ti Top edition Fractal Design Define R3 (little bit moded) SSD - Crucial mx100 64gb HDD - WD Scorpio Black 500gb Corsair GS600 power suply Noctua NH-D14 cooler Logitech K360 & G400 keybord and mouse Logitech X-530 speakers LG IPS236 monitor I don't even remember the first version of that PC because when I got some money I was searching what to change ect. And then PC was put in second place because I met my then girlfriend now wife. Some parts I sold because life is a b**** but some I reused for wives/my PC which ended up with Core I3-4150 and my old 560ti And from last years January I was back into the game. So I started upgrading wives/my PC. First, I upgraded from 560ti to 980ti (I really like ti versions) Then I added Samsung Evo 850 256gb and a month later, another Evo 850 256gb for RAID 0 And now I finally got a chance to upgrade the rest of my system. When I bought 980ti I already started to think about kaby lake upgrade this January but then wild Ryzen appeared. For a moment I thought about Ryzen but when I realised that it won't be out in January or February then it was only one way and it was Kaby Lake. I couldn't wait for Ryzen because from Marth/April I will have other priorities. When I built my first PC I wanted to watercolor it. But life is life and it never happened, but now finally I got a chance to do it. And my little dream came true. I am a bit proud how this build ended up. I know it's nothing special, but for me it is something and won't stop here. GPU block + 60mm thick triple 120mm radiator and PETG are coming soon so this isn't the final build this is just a start. Oh, and one more thing. We can't think of the name and we're hoping for suggestions. Specs: Intel 7600K overclocked to 5GHz Asus ROG IX Hero motherboard Corsair Dominator 16gb 3200MHz Same Asus 980ti strix 2x Samsung Evo 850 256gb in RAID0 Corsair RM750 power suply Phanteks ENTHOO EVOLV ATX GLASS EK-KIT X240 watercooling kit

So, what is your opinion on the Kaby Lake microarchitecture, do you think it's worth and upgrade from last year's Skylake? Personally, I would get a Kaby Lake CPU only if I was building a system entirely from scratch, the performance improvements is simply too little to justify an upgrade from a Skylake CPU in my opinion.

Hi I am building PC and i am planing to put there G4560. I was just wondering, if i should go with B250 or B150 mobo. B150 is roughly $20 cheaper than B250 in my regieon and since i am on tight budged i would like to seve as much as possible. Are there even some noticeable benefits?

I am building in a Thermatake Tower 900, I absolutely love this case, when completed with water this PC may be over 120 pounds or more, case alone is 57 pounds or 61.6 pounds in the dam box. I ordered 4 SANYO DENKI 9GV1412P1G001 fans for the cold air intake. 140mm x 38mm. All intake except for back panel will be a sayno fan, could not put on back panel due to clearance issues with 80mm thick rads. Voltage Rating (V) 12 Operating Input Voltage Range (V) 10.8 to 13.2 Power Rating (W) 55.2 Product Category DC Fan Nominal Speed (r/min) 7600 Maximum Airflow (CFM) 310 Maximum Pressure 2.57inH2O Noise Level (dB) 70 Line Current (A) 4.6 For the water cooling it will be Two loops which is 2 24v PMP 600's with a 400mm bitspower res attached to each one. The CPU, and GPU's will each run on its own loop. The PMP 600 have the highest Maximum Head Pressure I have seen 11m or (36ft) and 20L/min (5.3 gal/min), Tubing will be neatly arranged 1/2" x 3/4" Tygon neoprene tubing. Each 560 80mm thick rad with Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM fans in push pull, push only on bottom of rads near PSU due to clearance issues because the 80mm thick rad. The cpu will be on the Watercool MO-RA3 420 PRO 9 x 140mm push pull configuration with 9 Cougar CFD14HBR 140mm fans. As of right now these are the parts I am waiting for some are out and some are not. The ones in bold I have or have completed. So I've spent many hours and through fine tuning ive got my i7-7700K stable at 5.2GHz at just 1.400v and a -2 AVX offset. It runs Prime95 v26.6 Small FFTs for hours on end at its full 5.0GHz. Temps about 75c max from that. It also runs Prime95 v28.10 Small FFTs at its 5.0GHz offset setting (AVX offset ftw). Temps about 80c max from that. It runs games fine for hours on end.. It runs both prime95's together at the same time at 5.0ghz, happily, for hours. It runs games and prime95s together, happily, though it feels sluggish (no suprise tho). Yet as soon as i load up chrome alongside prime95 the system freezes. I can push up to 1.425v and still the same freeze then some whea uncorrectable or watchdog timeout.. What is wrong?

Hey there I've just started experiencing a problem with my OC and was hoping someone could help. 7600K (4.8GHz @ 1.3V, core ratio @ 4.5GHz) ASUS ROG STRIX Z270H I had my overclock dialed in and stable, great temps. Then loaded XMP profile for my RAM as to set the correct timings. Saved in the BIOS and rebooted, then I see that my CPU is set to 3.8GHz not 4.8GHz. Also in Task Manager my CPU speed jumps around from 1.0 to 2.0 GHz. Went back into BIOS and confirmed baseclock, multiplier, voltage and that it's showing target frequency at 4.8GHz. Back in Windows, same thing. http://imgur.com/a/oXcSo

Intel has just launched their Xeon processors based on the Kaby Lake architecture. These new cpus will be their Xeon E3 12xx v6 line up and there will be 8 skus. Stock clock speed ranges from 3Ghz to 3.9GHz and Turbo boost ranges from 3.5GHz to 4.2GHz. This give about 300MHz to 500MHz in turbo boost clocks, depending on the sku you choose from. Out of the 8 cpus, 2 of them will not have Hyper Thread, and 3 of them will have integrated graphics. TDP between those with integrated graphics and no integrated graphics is just 1w, where igpus have a TDP of 73W and non-igpus have a TDP of 72W. All of them will support features like ECC, vPro, and SGX, as well come with 8MB of L3 cache, and price ranges from $193 to $612 dollars. Similar to their Xeon Skylakes, these cpus will only work on workstation/server based chipsets, that's the C232 and C236. Intel has no plans to make new chipsets for these cpus, so any boards that wants to run a Kaby Lake Xeon, must have the latest bios update, and these is also support for Intel Optane Technology. On the consumer side, Intel Optane, only works on the new 200 series based chipset with KabyLake. On the workstation/server side, with a Kaby Lake Xeon, Intel Optane is supported on the existing C232 and C236 chipset, that was first introduced with Skylake. Intel Optane will be on selected Kaby Lake system configurations, and may only be provided on a OEM basis. http://www.anandtech.com/show/11232/intel-launches-xeon-e3-1200-v6-family Chipset comparison between C236, Z170, and Z270. C236 = Z170 with support for Intel Optane. Z270 = support for Optane on consumer Kaby Lake cpus. http://ark.intel.com/compare/90594,90591,98089

- The ROG gets DDR4 4133 (O.C) - Strix gets up to DDR4 3800 (O.C), Z270G that MicroATX one, up to 4000 (O.C) - TUF and Prime Z270-A at 3600 (O.C) - All runs SLI and CFX at x8/x8. Last x16 slot is still limited to x4 even though Z270 has extra lanes - Only 6 SATA ports - AURA RGB Lighting - Support Intel Optane - On the back, you get your typical I/O like gigabit lan, usb 2/3/3.1/Type C, and PS/2 Combo. Wifi and BT on selected models. e.g. Strix Z270E has and Strix Z270F does not Maximus iX Formula Maximus IX Code Maximus IX Hero Strix Z270E Gaming Strix Z270F Gaming Strix Z270G Gaming TUF Z270 Mark1 Prime Z270-A http://wccftech.com/asus-z270-motherboard-lineup-leaked/

I know the mobile chips have already launched on laptops but we haven't seen any desktop chips besides leaks here and there. How long til desktop chips launch? I'm looking to upgrade from a i5 4690K which runs great except the ports are feeling a bit dated and the performance for VR seems a little worry some with the recommended specs for Serious Sam being an i7-6800K (7700K should perform about the same).

Will the 6600k work on Kaby Lake mobo?
SpyingAround posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey guys, any information about if the 6000 series cpu's will be forward campatible with the new mobo for Kaby Lake cpus? I know the kaby lake processors are backwards compatible, but does that mean forward compatibility fpor the older cpus too? -
Super O, SuperMicro's consumer motherboard division has revealed some of their new boards for Intel KabyLake. The boards runs on socket 1151 with Intel 200 series chipset, and they got 4 models to choose from. 3 of them are ATX and 1 is MicroATX. I recently got an i7 7700k to replace my 4790k that died. I have a corsair h100i v2 240 cooler. I am able to get the CPU up to 4.8Ghz at 1.2, and never see 90 degrees Celsius. Should I push for more, or should that be the limit?

Fresh off the new wan show.. with ROG saying they could be made compatible but are locked out... why do you think older 170/270 cpus would be locked out of being put in the new 370 mobos? Especially since you basically cant get your hands on a new 8700k anyway so placing the older 6600k in there as a place holder until stock arrives for coffeelake would be nice

Hey all, sorry about the random influx of annoying CPU questions but I want to make sure I make the right choice so, the i7 8700 (non-k) is being sold in my local store for about £10-15 more than the 7700k side note: the prices in the store are identical to online prices so while this seems weird the 8700 is actually cheaper at my local store than it is online I intend on getting a new motherboard anyway due to mine lacking a lot of features I would like so whether that is a Z270 or B360 doesn't matter too much My question is essentially just which one has the most horsepower (taking into account 7700k overclock) thanks

Hello! Okay so these are my system specs atm: CPU: i7 4790K (Not overclocked atm) MB: MSI Z97I AC Mini ITX RAM: 8GB 16000MHz Corsair Vengence HDD: WD 1TB Blue I want to upgrade to a M.2 SSD on the board as it's faster than a SSD can be but would need to change my board to the ASRock Z97E-ITX http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/z97e-itxac/ OR Should I take this opportunity to upgrade to a i5 from Kaby Lake (as that's what I would be able to afford) or should I stick with my current build? TLDR: My options are: 1) Keep system as is and add a SATA SSD 2) Upgrade my MB and get a M.2 SSD 3) Replace CPU, RAM and MB and add a M.2 SSD? Thanks!

Introduction of Speed Shift v2. CPU reaches peak performance 10-15 milliseconds vs 30 milliseconds on Skylake Intel updates OPI 2.0 to OPI 3.0 Current Skylake NUC M.2 runs at x4 Gen 2, even though it supports x4 Gen 3 It's limited to that for stability reasons A bios updated has been released to fix that, but only limited to just a specific PC Vendor Rest of NUC builders are on their own Kaby Lake will run M.2 at x4 Gen 3, except for Core i3 7100U Y will get 10 gen 3 lanes and U will get 12 gen 3 lanes http://www.anandtech.com/show/10959/intel-launches-7th-generation-kaby-lake-i7-7700k-i5-7600k-i3-7350k

Hi all, I currently run an i7 920 overclocked at 4GHz so am way behind in technology. I have decided to wait for AMD Zen (Rysen) before deciding which CPU to go with because it looks promising so far. However, I heard they are only going to be supported by Windows 10? Is this true? If so, why? I like Windows 7 and would prefer to keep it over 10.

Hello, My current build consists of: Asus Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition An Intel i7 4930k CPU 4x Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM 2x GTX 1080 with HB SLI Bridge I am planning want to go 1440p surround in the long run. (Just a side information) Is it worth for me to upgrade my build into: Asus Prime z270-A Intel 7700k with 4x DDR4 RAM (my options are limited with Corsair Vengeance DDR4s) a) Even if I don't go 1440p surround and go 4k? b) If I go 1440p surround? c) If I have the money, just to see an improvement in my system? This is a new post in a long time, please don't thrash me if I give deficient or missing information. Thank you for your time. P.S: I have Corsair H115 Liquid Cooling system, if I change my CPU after cleaning the out of the box thermal paste, how much and which paste should I apply?

PCGamesen and Hardware Unboxed just released their reviews of the 7700k, and it has confirmed what most of us already knew: that Kaby Lake offers zero IPC boosts over Skylake. None, not even 1%. They ran both processors at 4.5ghz, and ran multiple tests, only to come to that very same conclusion: My thoughts on this? Well, I've been preaching this very same information on the forum for a few months now. We saw no reason to believe any IPC boosts back then, and now we have our confirmation. While it's disappointing for Desktop users (especially those that own Skylake chips already) it is still pretty exciting for mobile users. The more intelligent Turbo Boost will likely aid in battery life, and higher clocked SKU's with the same TDP envelope is always welcomed on platforms that traditionally do not allow overclocking. At the very least, we can look forward to Skylake-E with AVX512 on the horizon. Hi all, Not new to PC issues, so normally be able to resolve these sorts of issues myself, however run out of ideas. New build - the system is having issues POSTing. New chipset, could just be having release day issues... - Win 10 PRO 64 - Asus Z270-AR - Corsair Vengeance White LED 16GB 2x8GB 3200MHz C16 (XMP) - Intel i7 7700K - Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - Seasonic Prime 850 - EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ------------------- - System intermittently fails to boot from cold boot. - System fails to reboot effectively - sometimes taking 10-15 seconds to see Asus splash. - Does not display BIOS menu when POST fails. - Not a display issue as OS is not laoding (drivers not loading for Xonar STX) - Issue may be related to XMP OC for RAM. - Tested with all-core enhancement ON and OFF. ------------------------------------- Troubleshooting: - Reseated RAM - are in A2 - B2. - Loaded failsafe defaults. - Reset CMOS - Attempted to update BIOS, will need to re-attempt, no BIOS info on site just yet. Feel free to share any ideas - will be running memtest86 tonight. Thanks! Matt
