Microsoft claims to have gotten rid of Internet Explorer, and yet, some of its rotting corpse is still left over! How do I completely remove all of its remains?

Is it time to make browsers great again? Mozilla says yes. Source: CNET, Medium I don't know about you but browser wars never really made me excited. Remember back in 2010 when Microsoft was forced to respond to the reality that IE users are ditching it in favor of other browsers so they introduced Internet Explorer 9 which Microsoft claims the first browser to do GPU-accelerated browsing to make it fast. But the problem is that, IE 9's rendering engine Trident falls short when it comes to HTML5 compatibility. Now, Google Chrome is the most HTML5 compliant browser Project Quantum is basically what Microsoft did with Internet Explorer 9 up to Edge. Would Firefox 57 really shake up browsers again? From what they're saying, it's JIT compiling and GPU acceleration although anyone can correct me on this. What? Why? Hopefully performance and stability is better on Firefox 57. I encourage everyone to read the CNET article. But from the looks of it, Firefox is playing catch up with Chrome. Firefox 57 is also the update which will introduce multi-threaded processes just like Edge and Chrome. Hopefully they'll add sandboxing too. IE 7 I think was the first browser to do sandboxing by leveraging low privileges to the browser. Google Chrome implemented it better by sandboxing every tab opened so that if one tab crashes, the rest of the other tabs will remain unaffected and they even sandboxed Adobe Flash and other browser plugins. "Mozilla didn’t just survive. It’s gotten to a better place,” Beard says. “We’re back and we’re ready for the fight.” *Looking at this picture, I think Mozilla ripped off Daredevil's mask.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/01/29/microsoft_internet_explorer_10/ In a move that will shock no one, IE 10 is getting the ax in 2020, along with Windows 7. However, unlike Windows 7, MS will not provide any paid support afterwards. MS didn't port IE 11 to every OS, so some systems were forced to continue running IE 10. Seems like MS has finally decided to make 11 available for versions they still support, in order to stop supporting 10.

Hi guys, so recently I've tried to install an app from third party site, and instead of getting the app, I've ended up with bunch of viruses. Yeah, I know, I'm stupid... So I've done couple scans using different apps, and deleted every single file from appdata, roaming, program files, chrome extensions, etc. that sounded little fishy. I've also unninstalled every newly added app. All in all, I still got 2 main issues that I can't fix on my own. When I use chrome it doesn't show the browser logo, but instead it shows the internet explorer logo and the second issue is, that I can't update windows via the update center in settings. When I try to scan for any new updates I end up with 0x80070424 error code and when I try to install the manually it says the same error message with text "the specified service does not exist as an installed service". When I tried to find "windows update" service in services, it simply wasn't there. I'd appreciate any help, since I don't know what to do now. Thanks in advance. Sorry for my english

I built a system for my future son in law. He was caught this week on his phone looking at adult websites. He is only 15. I was unable to retrieve the computer until about a day later after he got reamed out by his mom. In that time he deleted Chrome and Utorrent from his computer, but they still were present in the Add/Remove programs area of windows. I first did a system restore and that pulled chrome back from the depths and a little bit of browser history but nothing incriminating. Nothing much at all, it seemed too sparse to me. I ran CCleaner, not to remove anything but to analyze. I found a boatload of cookies, but I have no idea how to "read" them to see where they came from. IE had some interesting stuff in its browser history that his mom will not like. Skype had a bunch of stuff she will not like. We've got him nailed for sure but before she drops the massive punishment she had planned she wants to know for sure hes been using his latest Christmas present for ill gotten pleasure. I guess what I'm most interested in doing is to try and determine if he accessed adult sites on the PC as well as his phone. Hey there, I'm stuck. I want to Import my Startlayout in my company to other Windows 10 machines. I have a VM to test it. Everything works fine, except for the Internet Explorer. It won't show in the Start Menu on the other PCs after i imported them. I replaced in the line for the IE the ''DesktopApplicationID="Microsoft.InternetExplorer.Default" />'' to ''DesktopApplicationLinkPath=”%ALLUSERPROFILES%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Internet Explorer.lnk" />''. I have a .lnk file of it in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories. But everytime i try Import-Startlayout -LayoutPath c:\temp\Startmenu_IE.xml -MountPath $env:Systemdrive\ it says me that this is not a valid layoutfile. Can anyone pls help me? :'(

Hi everyone, I'm having some issues with Internet Explorer. If I double click the icon for it, I get the loading circle next to the mouse pointer for a couple seconds, which then disappears and nothing loads, ever. No error messages either. I have looked in task manager and whilst this is happening internet explorer never appears (unless I'm missing it). Things I have tried: Running without add ons/extensions. Running as administrator Disabling internet explorer - restarting - enabling internet explorer - restarting Resetting internet explorer in Internet Options menu Running malwarebytes (no threats) All of the above has not worked at all and I'm at a loss of what to do. This is with a brand new installation of windows 7 professional, with mostly brand hew hardware (excluding RAM and PSU). The PC has 4GB ram and an I3 4170. This problem occurs when no other programs are running so it cant be a ram issue? Please don't suggest other web browsers, this is my fathers PC and he likes his internet explorer 11 (for some reason). I also want to understand what the problem is here. Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Hi, my MS Surface 2 which I use for school always opens the mobile versions of sites, which is really annoying since I always use it with a keyboard and mouse. I almost always use my Surface in desktop mode, and rarely go into the windows 8 style start screen. Most sites have a button which allows me to change to the full site, but it would be great if there was a way to make it open the full site automatically. Anyone know how to do this?

So I recently been having a windows issue since I reformatted . My Microsoft Explorer doesn't work. As soon as I open it up it stops responding, cant do anything and get then get the "internet explorer has stop working a problem cause the program to stop working currently windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" Interesting thing is SKYPE doesn't open up either. same resaults. When I try to install flash player on the pc doesnt download. it runs in the backround and stops all processing. I had to install adobe plugin for firefox to get it to kinda work. but now this is effecting my gaming too. I just recently bought final fantasy reborn from steam due to sale and its not working.. Im thinking this is all leading from the same issue.. IS my windows 7 fucked up?

Read title... I have been having problems with Chrome. Sluggish browsing and constant freezes. (Especially on this site, each page needs a couple of seconds to load. I have 16gb of RAM and nice computer. I think it may be all my extensions, or Chrome... or both.) So I'm kinda in the market for a new browser. Or I may stick with Chrome. I was gonna ask which browser I should go with, but I think a thread about everyone's preferred browser is more interesting. Fire away! Good Morning Guys and Gals, Hopefully a fresh pair of eyes is what I need for this as I am stumped. At my office we seem to have some kind of virus that has spread across multiple devices on the network, both windows and IOS based. On desktop devices we are getting a pop up that says the following: 5/7 computers in our office appear to be getting the message. Since coming in today it also appears that now my iPhone and iPad are also having a similar issue however instead of the flash pop up they are re-directing to random pages on the app store. For reference below is a list of sites that trigger the pop up. http://www.kaspersky.com/ (PC Only) http://www.theverge.com/ (PC and IOS) http://imgur.com/ (PC and IOS) http://avg.com/ (PC Only) http://speedtest.net/ (PC Only) AVG and Malwarebytes have both come back clear, I have reset all browsers and gone through my installed programs and not found anything. Any help or advice that you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Dan

Today Microsoft launched RemoteIE, it's a cloud based solution to get Internet Explorer on other Operating Systems than Windows. For webdevelopers who develop on Linux and OSX and want to make their website compatible with Internet Explorer this is great news. Instead of making a dedicated virtual machine, you just login and download the app and it connects to the Azure cloud platform. There are some drawbacks: You'll be logged out after 10 minutes of inactivity. A session can only last up to 60 minutes, after that you need to log out and log back in. It will only work with publicly available website, so your localhost development environment is off limits. The perfomance isn't the same, there is no gpu acceleration. I think it's a good move from Microsoft to release a way to view their browser on a different operating system. Since I mostly develop websites on Linux, I found it irritating that I needed another computer/virtual machine just to check if a website was compatible with the different Internet Explorer versions. Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2964358 (and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-27249695 ), although I have written it up myself Microsoft has released an update for IE today which fixes the major security flaw discovered earlier in the week. It is update KB2964358 and is "Important" (clearly very important because it has not been released on a Tuesday). The update applies to IE 6 through 11, and is supported on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 upwards. When XP support was discontinued, there was a lot of discussion as to whether this would happen. The answer is clearly yes, which is a good thing for all of those IE users, but it does appear to show that Microsoft will be forced to commit to supporting IE6-8 and XP for general consumers for a while to come, albeit only the critical vulnerabilities.

Hello everyone! Don't think this has been posted here before, but... This is a batch file I found and use to remove the toolbars, bloatware, general crap from computers (and also some of the preinstalled packages that come on dell and HP machines). It doesn't check to confirm if the program is installed, just runs a quick uninstall command, if its not installed then it doesn't really matter and it just keeps going. *** Each program removal is covered by an ECHO command above it so you can see what's being removed and were in the script it happens, if you do not want to remove any of the programs, just remove the ECHO and any lines below it until the next ECHO Also it's fairly easy to add your own uninstallers, should be fairly self explanitory when you see the code! If you're not familiar with batch files, just copy the following code into notepad++ (normal notepad will do.....) and save it as something.bat with the file type set to 'all files' Source: I use Google Chrome allot but I have used IE11 quite a bit to find out that it isn't that bad or is it just me? Why are people complaining about it so much? It is responsive and simplistic which I admire and I am pretty sure other people do too. For the average user, can someone point out why it is so bad?

Microsoft just released a short anime on their Internet Explorer YouTube channel called "Internet Explorer: The Anime -- feat Inori Aizawa" (click link to watch). Internet Explorer-tan is called "Inori Aizawa" and there isn't really much more to say. You will be able to download a special version of IE11 with a skin of the new mascot in the near future. Post on the official facebook page: Download page (no links up yet) Test it out if you use IE9 I should add that this is not the first time Microsoft does something like this. With the launch of Windows 7 they announced "Nanami Madobe", their cloud server software Azure has its own -tan called "Claudia", Sliverlight-tan is called "Hikaru" and Windows 8 has two mascots called "Madobe Yu" and "Madobe Ai" (as in, UI). There are a few more but you get the point. There have been unofficial OS-tans for quite a long time but it seems like Microsoft likes the idea and will continue to make official ones for their products. And here is an image of her:

Internet explorer now has an anime-styled virtual mascot/icon/figure/personification thingy. It even comes complete with a transformation suit up/magically change clothes cut. I couldn't keep a straight face this is so tryhard, but I can't really think of a way they could implement something like this without it being cheesy. Though it will probably still be able to draw in a few people that don't particularly mind IE (it's not terrible) and have an appreciation for this type of art style. parallel thread: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/73013-microsoft-unveils-official-ie11-tan-called-inori-aizawa/

Hello there LTT, I was clicking around on my new PC earlier (this being the first time I've ever used Windows 8.1), and I discovered a way to almost entirely disable Internet Explorer. I'm not sure how many of you know how to do this, but I've never heard of it before and I spend a fair bit of time on the internet. STEP 1: Open up Control Panel. Make sure it's showing All Control Panel Items (it should either be on Large Icons or Small Icons - change this in the top-right hand corner). Go to Default Programs. If you have StartIsBack (which is great btw), you can open the Default Programs window right from the Start Menu: STEP 2: Click on "Set program access and computer defaults" STEP 3: Click on the "Custom" drop-down menu, and uncheck the "Enable access to this program" box next to Internet Explorer. Click OK. That's it! Just to prove to myself that IE was hidden away, never to be used again, I ran a quick search in the Start Menu: Yep, it's gone. Just to clarify, it's not uninstalled - I'm not sure if you can even uninstall IE - but it is basically gone forever. It won't open again at any point unless you go back and check the box (as detailed above) again. Hey, out of sight, out of mind, right?

Ok, so I've suddenly started having some weird issues with both internet explorer and mozilla firefox. Normally my pc can handle my usual browsing of having a youtube video taking up one half of the screen, and another (Never both at the same time, but i've tried both FF and I.E.) window open browsing computer parts, these forums, and usually several other tabs. But in the last 2 or 3 weeks I have noticed a weird slowdown on opening of pages, opening of the windows, yesterday internet explorer refused to go to www.google.com (seriously), kepting saying "navigation to page canceled", not to mention the now nightmare-ish lottery that is getting youtube video's to play (linus, adhesivewombat, other stuff, its completely random to specific video's) endless loading to eventual error message there, and today youtube video's will play, but are choppy as hell, even with lowest resolution youtube has, and fully buffered. I know its not my ISP because I have a 10Mbps connection. (I re-downloaded skyrim yesterday in about 2 hours). This is a less than 3 months old install of windows 7 professional. When the issues occur I open task manager and according to the performance tab I am running at about 30% load on the cpu, but it goes up and down alot (down to about 17%), and I'm only using about 3 to 4 gigs of ram. My cpu is an AMD a10 fm2 5700 3.5ghz (4.0 turbo) which has always seemed solidly powerful for what I paid for it). I have a 120 gig samsung 840 evo SSD as the boot drive with just a few games on it (its got 53.6 of 119 gigs free still) and a 1tb wd black 7200 HDD that has like, 855 gigs free as well. Finally I have an EVGA gtx 660 ftw edition, an asus f2 A85-v pro motherboard, adata 1600 ram, and a corsair h110 with two noctua 140's and two corsair 140's. WHAT DO?! Something's dying.... I just feel it. Edit: Oh, I am not having any trouble in game. Other than bf4 pissing me off and not having enough ram and vram to mod the crap outta skyrim. I am running skyrim in ultra, and bf4 on medium because it looks like crap in ultra on this monitor[yet skyrim looks fantastic]
