So in my laptop (Lenovo legion y520) I have and intel i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHZ, for integrated graphics I have intel(R) HD Graphics 630, For a GPU I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, the problem is when gaming if i pull up my task manager to check my performance I see that my integrated graphics are chugging along at around 60% but my actual GPU (the GTX 1050 Ti) is running at 0% usage. For some reason it seems that my graphics card which should be quite decent is not running at all. One of my friends said that it might be disabled in the BIOS but I don't want to mess something up. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? Attached is task manager when I am running a game.

I currently have the Gigabyte Z170X UD5 TH motherboard. It has two thunderbolt III ports in a form of USB type-C. I would like to use my iMac as a monitor, but the mac only has two thunderbolt II ports in a form of a mini display port. if I buy this adaptor from apple, would it work? http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter? If it does, can I use the power of my dedicated graphics card of my PC instead of its integrated graphics? iv tried connecting my iMac and my graphics card directly using a mini DisplayPort to display port adaptor but it didn't work. so now the idea is that, what if I could connect my imac to my motherboard via thunderbolt and use the power of my graphics card.

Hey everyone, i have a weird question, hopefully solvable. I have a dual monitor setup but i lack a second (DP) cable for my GTX 970 so i have one HDMI in the card and one HDMI in the motherboard. my question has two parts. First, when i play games, does having the second display with onboard graphics on decreases performance and if so how much could that be ( my CPU is i5 6600 and when i play games i have little to no apps running in the background ). And second is there a way, to turn off the display with the onboard when gaming with the discrete one ? Thanks in advance.

Im looking at purchasing either a 1080p or 1440p monitor, 24 or 27 inches, with a preferred response time of 1ms and 60hz+. I need it to have good colour accuracy for what I can purchase at the £150 and under mark plus have good clarity. So far I have found this monitor which supposedly has some of the best colours for the price, not to mention the great aesthetic xD https://www.ebuyer.com/752687-lg-24mp88hv-24-full-hd-ips-neo-blade-iii-monitor-24mp88hv This seems like a stupid question however seen as my processor is a J2900 (ivy bridge) it's integrated graphics are far from the best and are lacking in many ways. I hope you can clarify if the integrated graphics will be able to handle smoothly 1080p video playback etc and possibly if 1440p will work. Thanks in advance, any monitor recommendations are welcome! Hope you can make sense of this - it's 4am xD Lex.

Hi, Sorry if this kind of problem has been posted before but I've been unable to find cases siminlar to my own. Recently I suffered a power surge resulting in my PSU and GPU (Corsair VS550 and EVGA 750ti) being bricked. I've since replaced the PSU and have attempted to utilise the iGPU to no avail. Also please note that I have attempted to use the internal graphics in the past prior to the power surge and it had not worked then either so I know the power surge wasn't the cause. I have uninstalled the previous Nvidia drivers with DDU in safe-mode, but upon installing intel HD graphics drivers I am met with a black screen both immediately after installing the Driver and upon starting the computer right after passing the BIOS with my screen saying "no signal". I have attempted this several times with both latest and older drivers. Within the BIOS I have set Internal Display Output to iGFX and the Internal Graphics to Enabled. My old GPU is not in the system and I am using my graphics tablet as a monitor as my main screens cables are not supported by my motherboard. The graphics tablet is connected to the motherboard via Display Port. System Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Z270X-gaming K7 RAM: 32GB of Klevv Cras PSU: EVGA 650BQ OS: Windows 10 64bit Monitor: Wacom Cintiq 12WX Thanks in advance

Hi All I am trying to find any information regarding the operation of Intel integrated Graphics operating in Flex Memory mode. there are obvious proofs and substantial evidence that having dual channel memory operation increased the performance of an iGPU as the memory interface to the iGPU is now 128 bit, rather than 64 bit in single channel. With the advent of DDR2 can Intel Flex Memory operation, which is as follows (from the Intel processor specs): "Memory is divided into a symmetric and asymmetric zone. The symmetric zone starts at the lowest address in each channel and is contiguous until the asymmetric zone begins or until the top address of the channel with the smaller capacity is reached. In this mode, the system runs with one zone of dual-channel mode and one zone of single-channel mode, simultaneously, across the whole memory array. Since many modern laptops come with a fixed amount of soldered ram on the motherboard, say 4 gb adding a soDIMM of RAM is not only highly necessary (as 4 is too little for any sort of medium use in say chrome and Win 10), but will also result in gains in iGPU performance of 10-25% depending on application, as it now has a full dual channel 128 bit memory interface instead of the 64 bit that it had with just the single channel soldered on board memory. However with modern apps and programs (Chrome, Windows, Photoshop etc.) needing so much RAM, it would make sense to just up the capacity of the new soDIMM to say 8 gb, resulting in a system wide capacity of 12 gb. Now according to Intel, that is divided so that the first 8 gb (soldered + half of the soDIMM) will run in an interleaved dual channel configuration, and the last 4 gb, will be operated in single channel. Which area of the system memory will the iGPU use? Will it run in single or dual channel bus width? Will it report transparently to the computer? (ie. report correctly that the iGPU might be running at 64 bit bus width, even though the memory controller tells windows that is in dual channel mode? In otherwords, will upgrading a laptop with 8gb, instead of 4 gb have any effect on the expected gains in graphics power? Kind regards Mike

Hello. i recently just built a new pc, however i don't have my graphics card yet. i have a 144hz monitor (kogan 144hz freesync) to be exact. i was wondering if a can run my monitor at 144hz through my motherboard, im using a displayport cable, but when i go into monitor settings its only showing me 64hz at 1080p. and yes i do mean 64hz, not 60hz, weird i know. ive tried seeing whats going on with my monitors own settings and i cant find anything, ive looked in my computers settings and i can still only run 64hz. when i turn my monitor on it comes up with a little banner saying "1920x1080 60hz" my specs are: mobo: asus prime z370-a cpu: intel i5 8400 ram: crucial ballistix Lt sport 2x8gb ssd: western digital green m.2 120gb hhd: seagate 1tb hard drive gpu: galax gtx 1070 8gb sniper white (getting in in a month) also i cant get sound to come through my monitors speakers with display port, but it works when i plug my laptop in using hdmi, Cheers, Jack

Hey, so I’ve just purchased a dell xps 13 with core i7-6500U, integrated Intel 520 graphics and I am using Premiere to edit. And I was wondering after watching Linus’s “4K Editing on an ultrabook” video, is cineform totally dependent on a GPU for GPU acceleration? Or would it be still worthwhile converting to cineform even with integrated graphics. Thanks for your help in advance

Hi people of linustechtips, With the new option of using dual graphics with your integrated graphics, I wanted to know if I could use is with a amd apu a8-3870k quad core and a R7 260x. Also can dual graphics be used with non-amd discrete graphics cards? and does anyone have a link to a somewhat accurate list of possible combinations? thanks in advance, Sundur

I am building a machine and I got it all together to find out that it doesn't want to display anything on the screen though the intergrated graphics port. Then I read the box on the processor and it says 'Graphics Card Required'. Does this mean that I can't use intergrated graphics? Do I need to get a graphics card? I am using a Intel Core i5 3350OP LGA1155 for the processor and a MSI ZH77A-G43. The motherboard has intergrated graphics but I'm not sure if I can run that on this processor. Do I need to pick up a graphics card?

When my laptop is unplugged, I have noticed that due to the power settings it: ultilizes the gpu less, and overall performance is lowered. I am fine that. However, today after one game crash on Civ V, it started behaving as if it was unplugged or in a low power setting, WHILE plugged IN and power settings maxed. Here are the specs before I procede: OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit. CPU: Intel Core i5-4200M 2.50 GHz RAM: 8GB Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M The shi**y intergrated graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4600 *I know that the specs aren't impressive, but it runs most games smoothly on moderate to high. Or rather it did before today. Steps I have taken to try to diagnose/fix the problem. 1. Turned it off and on again. 2. Reviewed the power saving settings; All are performance-optimised. 3. Ran virus scan, defrag, reg check, pc cleanup. No issues found. 4. Checked that the high-performance NVIDIA processor was chosen in NVIDIA control panel. Both global default and settings for specific programs were checked for the NVIDIA gpu. 5. After noticing that PhysX > CPU icon was present in one game, I checked NVIDIA CP to see if PhysX was checked for the GPU and NOT the CPU. It was. 6.This prompted me to uninstall the gpu driver. After reinstalling the latest driver through NVIDIA Geforce experience, the PhysX > CPU icon was no longer present. HOWEVER the computer still acted as if on low juice, and the performance of the game I ran comfortably just a few hours ago was still terrible (game = WoTR). 7. Even after running a game, by clicking on NVIDIA high-performance processor, through the context menu of the .exe file, the same performance issues were present. 8. I downloaded GPU Z to look at the hardware sensors wfile in-game. In Watch Dogs, the game lagged out as soon as I left the bedroom (in game), but the gpu load was showing 40-60%, the intel intergrated was about 30%. For the GPU, the capping reason was shown as ultilization, at first but after a few seconds the reason was not displayed. Again, to reiterate, the only time I have seen my games run this poorly was when the laptop was in a low power setting or unplugged. I am baffled at why this has happened. To add more, even browsing the web is slower, the typing has a small lag, and the scrolling isn't smooth, as if there was a high load or a cap, just like when it is in a low power setting. Pwease help :'( I have scoured the net for an answer but their solutions end at 'change to high performance setting' or 'enable GPU in NVIDIA CP'.
