Hi. I'm looking at a new laptop. It has to have three criteria: Must have an all-day battery (all-day for reasonably regular use where I use Word and internet) Relatively portable (15" screen would be nice) Decent power. I've found many laptops that match up with the first two criteria, but most of these laptops that I'm looking at have a 920M or a 940MX, which is more than enough power for me, however the CPU in more cases was an i5-6200U. It's a dual-core processor with 4 threads, however I'm not sure if it'll perform well for some of the games I intend on playing. I intend on playing games like Unturned, Skyrim, Hearthstone, Overwatch (at a push, not necessary tho), and some other light games. I intend on using other things like Skype, Office, Adobe Photoshop etc. Is the 6200U good for those games, and is it going to last at least 5 years? Thanks, Alpha.

My toshiba satellite a665 (i7 740QM, 640GB, GTS 350M) that contains an i7 740QM (1.7ghz base, 2.9ghz turbo) started clocking at 3192 mhz on one core, which is above its turbo speed, thus being quite interesting. (anyone knows why this is so?) Also, i read that it is possible to limit cpu performance without underclocking, setfsb or anything like that by simply changing a setting in windows. i want to do it beacuse as seen below, i am achieving temperatures of 100 deg C while simply simultaneously doing a conference call and watching a youtube video. my laptop would also overheat while playing half life 2 ._. so if anyone knows how to do that. also does anyone know how to change the fan speed of my cooler fan? (SpeedFan and HWInfo64 does not work) thanks!

Hello. This might have been seen around here before now, but what is the best to really get? Kaby or Sky Lake? Myself have been pondering as I still run a 1155-socket, I'am saving some but I found out that Kaby Lake now is about 50 euros cheaper that Sky Lake at a store here I found in Sweden, as I only gonna buy Motherboard, CPU and RAM. But the motherboard is my main interest there, as I was looking at the TUF Z170 and now the Z270, not sure but I look at the Z170 and I just seem to be more impressed with the older one than the newer one, not sure if it is because the small hidden cute fan or not.

I bought my gaming PC pre-built back in 2015. It came with an msi 760GMA-P34 (FX) motherboard, which was advertised as "Military Grade II". While I was able to use it just fine for high-end PC gaming, there are a few things that I'm not too happy with. First is the on-board audio. Audio coming from the speakers is ok, but if I plug in headphones via the audio jack on my desktop case, I hear static in the background every time I play a PC game. That's why I plugged in a headphone DAC/amp. Second is the low number of ports. This mobo has only 4 USB 2.0 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports, and one 3.0 header and two 2.0 headers, which give me the maximum number of 2.0 ports of 8 and 3.0 ports of 4. Thing is, my case has only one 2.0 port and 3.0 port each, and I have multiple USB 2.0 devices plugged into my PC at once, which is why I have a USB 2.0 hub plugged in. The three 3.0 ports are just fine for VR such as Oculus Rift, but even if I do get a headset, I tend to leave it plugged into the three 3.0 ports because I'm kinda lazy, and I don't want my PC to have cables sticking from the top or front all the time. The lack of USB 3.0 ports is the reason why I have a USB 3.0 PCIe card plugged into the PC, which brings me to the lack of PCIe slots on the mobo. I have my GTX 1060 6GB connected to the PCIe x16 slot and the x4 slot is located just 1 space below, which makes the graphics card cover that slot completely, so I had to buy an extension kit for that PCIe x4 slot and as a result, the inside of my desktop PC doesn't look great. The mobo also has an old-school PCI slot which doesn't seem to be working; I plugged in a USB 2.0 card and the devices that I plugged into it were not working at all, which is why I still have a USB hub plugged in. I've been looking for a new motherboard with the features that I'd like to have, on newegg.ca and Amazon.ca: Multiple PCIe x16 and x4 slots 8 or more USB 2.0 ports 4 USB 3.0 ports USB 3.1 Gen2 No Video-Out Built-in DAC for on-board audio RGB-Out for LED strips But the ones that I saw recently do not support AM3/AM3+ or DDR3. The ones that I saw a year ago did have all of the features and supported AM3/+ and DDR3, but now on newegg and Amazon they don't seem to exist anymore. My PC's CPU is an AMD FX-8350, which is AM3+, and my 16GB of memory are DDR3. The ones that do support AM3/+ and DDR3 do not have all of the features that I'm looking for. So, the only way I can really upgrade my motherboard is to upgrade my CPU to an AM4/Ryzen/Intel Core and RAM to DDR4 as well. And that will likely cost me a lot of money. Really, I just want to upgrade my mobo. I've heard that AMD Ryzen is a huge upgrade over FX. I've been playing fairly recent games (up to 2016?) with my current FX along with my GTX 1060 6GB in ultra settings just fine. Is upgrading to Ryzen worth it?

Hi, there I am planning to build a pc by the end of this year. I was looking at a pc around £500 although if its worth it I would wait a bit to spend more money. here is my original idea. pls, do share your thoughts and what to change. CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 ( Would consider a 1300x or ryzen 5 or maybe even an intel) £73 GPU: GTX 1050 ti ( should I save up for a 1060??) £150 RAM: 1x8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3000 £75 PSU: Corsair CXM 450w £48 MOBO: ASUS Prime B350-Plus £75 Case: Corsair Spec alpha £50 Storage: Kingston A400 120gb SSD (in addition to the 1TB wd Black) £24 =£499(of course pc components prices can change ) What would you change or just generally what are your opinions? thx for reading this

Hi. We all know about all Xeon processors can works with Dual-CPU by adding Xeon motherboard but, what about Intel Core series processors? I think Intel Core i7 8700K needs to work with Dual-CPU mode but this needs new motherboards with Dual LGA 1151-V2 Socket... I expect that from Intel soon... But, what you guys think about that too? I really expect from Intel...

Hi guys I got an old pc with and Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz processor with stock cooler and 6 gigs of DDR3 ram (unknown brand) 1333MHz. And i am wondering if i can put a HD7850 graphic card in the machine without replacing the PSU. The one that sits in the machine at the moment is an old FSP350-60MDN which has an onput on 350watt. I know that the E8400 has an TDP at 65watt, so in my mind that would leave (approx) some 285 watt to the GPU but i am not sure. There will be no OC on the machine and the only purpose for it will be just an video machine, ergo youtube and movies. Should i try with the PSU or should i get another one?

So I'm uppgrading from an old intel core2 quad with 6gb of something like 244mhz ddr2 memory to a brand new intel core i7 6700k with 8 or 16 gb 2400 ddr4. I chose this perticular sett of ram modules because they were white and it fits with my white and blue theme. I'm allso buying a msi crait motherboard because of the colours and there are two variants i can choose from: either the "MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X, Socket-1151" For 1600kr ($1 is about 10kr) wich has 2400mhz as a supported busclock. Or the " MSI E3 KRAIT GAMING V5, Socket-1151" for 1450kr this variant only has 2133mhz as the supported busclock. this is pretty much the only difference I can find betwen these motherboards so if there is something I've missed (other than a couple of more usb ports and usb C on the more expensive version) please point it out. but the main question is does the bussclock matter and will it work if i dont have the right busclock and from an overclocking perspective how important is ram speed?

So I'm doing a little bit of planning here. I've put together a build using the G3258, and I wanna know because I'm eventually gonna have to upgrade from only 2 cores, which i3 I should upgrade to for the best performance. I say the i3 because I really can't afford and i5s but if you have any suggestions for lower end (cheaper) i5s then I'd accept those too. Also, has Intel ever said anything about making a K-series i3?

Hey Guys, i'm new here so sorry if i'm on the wrong place do to this question. Some time ago i bought a pc with these specs: Intel Core i7 2600 3.4Ghz (socket 1555) 6Gb Of Ram 1333Mhz Nvidia GeForce GT520 etc etc etc so, my problem is, i want a new graphic card, but one friend of mine told that upgrade my computer was impossible because the CPU can only use PCIe 2.0 and not 3.0 (i want a cool GTX980), but in this website (https://pcpartpicker.com) that i used to "make" the computer that i want with the CPU that i have and it says Compatibility Check: No issues/incompatibilities found. But in the intel page of the CPU it says PCI Express Revision 2.0 so i'm not sure oh and yes, the GTX980 is PCIe 3.0. I know that i could buy a new CPU and a new motherboard and all that but whyi should i if my CPU is good? Thx a lot for your aswers and Sorry For my english SkoiZz This is the build that i made (the power Suply will not be this one, still thinking about it)

Hi guys, I'm about to start my college education on Software Engineering and I'm also a gamer. I'm buying a new laptop and I've narrowed my options down according to my budget to 2 laptops: HP 14-R010LA(Intel Core i3) and HP-V006LA(AMD A8). Im going to do all of my software work on this laptop and (of course) I'm going to be gaming as well ,so the main question is: Which laptop is better for me?(they're both at the same price)

So I want to know if im being bottlenecked. I play games like Counter Strike Global Offensive and League of Legends mostly but I do tend to play Battlefield 3 and 4 here and there. Some Tomb Raider and H1Z1 rarely but all these games have something in common for my setup. Ill be playing for example CSGO, getting 280 FPS then randomly every minute or so the frames drop 60 or even 70. I get bad frame tearing and leads to my death in game which gets irritating. Set up is as follows. : 2x GTX 770 in SLI. Intel Core i5-2300 being cooled by a Corsair H110. 8 GBS of Corsair DDR3 1333 MHz Ram. Corsair 650W PSU 80PLUS GOLD. Does my CPU bottleneck my GPUs or is it something else. Maybe software related? Please help !
