I love collecting console games, retro, modern, etc. However I have a few concerns and am curious about possible improvements to the set up. You can see the wires, they're decently organized, but not fantastically plus the sheer quantity of them makes it hard to manage. Any ideas on how I can better manage/hide these cables, even if I should make a change in the shelf/stand I have a lot of retro consoles and a major concern of mine is that these electrical components are very old and because of that I don't trust them to be hooked up to power without my supervision. Currently I use a very large power strip which has a switch that I turn off whenever I'm not home and using a console in the set up. Is there a better way to go about this? Is there a better way to store the controllers, especially the wired ones? I worry that the wires are degrading as I wrap them around themselves and have noticed that they start to twist and take that shape permanently. I like things to appear fairly neat and be easy to get in and out. Any ideas? My original Xbox and Xbox One S need new feet however I haven't been able to really find any, someone know where I can find some? Is there anyway to protect my purchase in the case of a fire? Perhaps I could convert the physical library to digital in some cases and continue to use the discs for as long as they're available? I'm also looking for possible improvements to my desk set up and am curious if any of you guys have any ideas. I don't want to purchase a new desk as this one was quite expensive, but it has some size constraints and I was considering a few possibilities. A second Apple Studio Display. I always had duel monitors when I was a PC person, I've since switched to Apple Silicon for the time being. I love my Apple Studio Display, but I'm considering purchasing another identical model. The one concern is crowding my desk. I'd like to maintain what I call a messy minimalistic approach, there is also the concern of making my one wire set up a two wire set up for hooking up one of my Macs and reducing easy access to them. I'd like the server to be more hidden, but it runs Linux Mint so not everything is accessible in the terminal. I do tend to do most things via the terminal allowing SSH to be a great solution for most of the time. Is there perhaps some remote monitoring applications (free of charge preferably and not requiring an online account) that I could employ to maintain desktop access when required without needing an additional legacy monitor? I use the server to host my Valheim and Minecraft server. Should I adjust the storage of the lots of retro computers and parts I have? I use these for repairing/maintaining retro machines and am working on making some videos in regards to the equipment I have. I'm really hoping to minimize the cluttered look. Notes about the photos: I keep my RGB strip, Time Machine m.2 and usb dongle on the back of my Apple Studio Display, I've also recently added a USB SuperDrive (don't worry I didn't buy it new as that would be a total rip off). I have two Macs in vertical stands, one is my main machine an M1 Pro 14" and the other is an old Intel Mac from 2019 that I use only for Windows and playing some games that are only available on Windows. I use the shelving and platform to my right when facing my monitor to repair machines and stop tools and some software. The beige shelf stores more hardware and to the left of me in the photo is another hardware shelf. The legacy monitor is for my server and I'd love to retire and discontinue daily use, keeping it around only as a spare. Looking forward to your guy's recommendations.

Hello, I recently developed a program, currently named 'Windows MP3 Player', inspired by the lack of media players across all platforms, with the ability to restore your playlist whenever you open the program again. It will resume your full playlist; your revert history (songs you changed); your watch folders; plus the song you were listening to at the exact time where you left off (minus 3 seconds). I built the program for myself initially, however it turned out really well so I plan on releasing it to a wider spectrum. However, building it for myself means that I only built whatever I need, and I haven't received any feedback from others in terms of what might be missing. It's been a while since I built this program, so I am going to rebuild it with additional features and improvements. Which is why I'm posting here. Please note that the program version is 2.0.0.0 Alpha, meaning that it is in the Alpha stage of development - it is nowhere near complete, and there are potentially features which do not work or are missing. Also, there are certain known ways to crash the program, for example by playing non-mp3 files, which can be by selecting an 'All Files' filter when adding/replacing files. This is intentional, and it is up to the user not to crash the program. Windows MP3 Player can be downloaded here if you wish, or you can provide feedback simply from the screenshots below. I will also include brief explanations of some features that may not be as straight forward to understand after each screenshot. Screenshots: So there you have it - the whole program. Please inform me of any bugs you find, or any features and any aesthetic improvements you feel should be added.

I've found a 4c/4t CPU titled AMD Eng Sample: 2D2204BGMCWH2_33/29_N, I believe that this is similar to the 12c/24t leaked benchmark thanks to the name of the sample, here are the results: Im not sure if these are legitimate results but they are impressive when thought about that way

Hey, Currently looking to build a new PC. I have been upgrading parts for years but since the new generation cpu's requires a new mobo aswell I figured I'd just upgrade the whole rig to be able to sell my current system as a whole. Primarly going to be used for gaming on 1080p, and may look into 1440p gaming in the future (screens are still quite expensive as I want 2 of them). Wanted to check if there's nothing major i'm messing up, or if you guys may have any suggestions for better alternatives. I think it's worth if it's a bit more expensive, if the it's a great gain for what I want to do (2060 will never run 1440p? 2070 will, that would be worth the upgrade). Besides gaming it's used for design software such as AutoCAD/Revit, which currently runs smooth already so not to worried about that. Rendering isn't really happening alot, so mostly just drawing (no need for a better cpu/gpu purely for faster rendering) Games I play currently Tom Clancy's The Division 2, also running smooth but settings are quite low and backgroud programs cant be run. I can't run a youtube video on my 2nd monitor while playing division 2 for instance. I like to play games on a decently high fps 60-80 on 1080p but with 1440p in the future that might also mean 144 hz. I tend to play City Skylines aswell, which really had issues the bigger the city got mostly due to RAM/CPU for what I understand. I'd love to play on high/ultra graphic settings but if I do decide to get 2x 144 hz 1440p screen I wouldn't mind turning that down to get a decent framerate & value out of the new monitor. The budget I have about 1500 euro's purchasing the parts in the Netherlands, the parts I currently choose sum up to a total of about 1200 euro's. There's some room for upgrades, if that would be worth it for 'x' reason. Intel Core i5-9600K Boxed € 275,50 MSI Z390-A PRO € 124,90 MSI GeForce RTX 2060 GAMING Z 6G € 409,- Thermaltake View 27 € 55,95 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 € 111,01 Samsung 970 EVO 500GB € 119,99 With the total being around 1200 euros. May add a CPU active cooler, not looking to overclock but it can get really hot in my room and for the price I'd say that's worth it. On top of that currently I have a PSU of 550W, may look to buy a new one but looks like its enough for the setup. OS windows 10 will be on the 970, combined with the Samsung 860 EVO I currently use to install programs/games on. Do you guys see any problems, or have any input to improvements? I know 32 GB of RAM is (a little) overkill, however compared to the 16 GB I currently have running at 2300 Mhz that is something I won't have to change for a long while whilst getting good performance with designing software which benefits alot from RAM as far as I know. What I have most doubts about is the CPU and GPU, I looked into the Ryzen 7 2700x but since im going to use it mostly for gaming I have been told the SC speed of the i5 gives me more benefit. Besides that also the RTX 2060 seemingly isnt worth upgrading to from my current GTX 1060. I think 2070 is to expensive, and i don't really like buying a 2nd hand 1080 Titan used for bitmining or something.

I want to purchase the parts for my new pc soon, and wanted to make sure everything was compatible, or if there were any improvements that could be made. I have chosen Core i5 9600k - 278€ Gigabyte Aorus Pro WiFi - 198€ Noctua NH D15S - 79€ G.Skill Trident Z 16GB 3000MHz - 134€ EVGA RTX 2070 XC Gaming Black - 549€ (+10€ shipping) EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GQ - 89€ Samsung 860 Evo 500GB - 84€ NZXT H500 - 93€ Asus MG248QR 24” 144Hz 1080p - 255€ Windows 10 Home - 126€ Total (without Windows): 1,769€ Total (including Windows): 1,897€ RTX 2070 includes Battlefield V and/or Anthem, and the monitor includes Black Ops 4. I currently live outside of the US, therefore some deals or prices may not be the same here. I am aware that the RTX 2070 is a bit overkill for 1080p gaming, however I do plan on buying a second, 1440p monitor a bit down the line. Are there any improvements anyone could think of?

Build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Kirtz/saved/gxCZ8d (Thank You @brob) Note - In the build, I've Put down 3 "Akasa Vegas MB Magnetic RGB LED Strip Lights" Since the length of each strip is 50 CM (65 CM with extensions) and the dimensions of my case is W235xH480xD500, ill need 3 of them for the Top, rear and bottom. Hence the price is rounded off too and other 2 are marked as Purchased. Hello, This is my first ever RGB build so I'm not sure on how RGB lighting connectors work and how many i need to support the amount of lighting I want. My plan is to have the NZXT kraken to be mounted on top with an aura sync compatible RGB Strip to compensate for the bland/non-RGB radiator fans. I'd like to have up to 3 RGB strips, 1 for the top, rear, bottom, and as for the front of the case, i'll replace the included 140mm fan with 2 Corsair - LL140 RGB LED fans (Was thinking of getting a 3rd but I don't want the Fan lights to overpower the LED Strip lights too much). Theme/Goal/Vision - The goal for this RGB placement is for the Motherboard + LED strips + RAM (G.skill Trident Z) + GPU RGB's to be in sync with one another with the use of Asus Aura Sync. The corsair LL fans to be in sync with my corsair peripherals (keyboard + mouse). And lastly the NZXT cooler logo to be standalone not really affected by any other parts (as its the heart of the PC). Main Concern (what this thread really is for) - Since this is my first RGB based build, im unaware with the RGB controls and connections work, especially when there's different branded hardware involved, Compatibility is what I'm really unsure of (i.e. if i need to buy any external/extra parts such as fan controllers or extra RGB/USB headers to ensure everything is connected and will function when done right). If someone can help me by firstly letting me know if this is possible with what i've got set to buy from my PC part picker builder or do i need to buy some extra components to achieve this, and If i do need something else, can you please let me know. Would highly prefer any links given for suggested products are shippable/available to the UK. Any other component changes are welcome and i will try my best to do some research on them before i do make any changes. Thank you to everyone and anyone who helps! (In ADVANCE) P.S - I've included a VERY badly drawn plan on paint in 2 minutes of what i'm aiming for in my build. Feel Free to tell me how trash the drawing is, and ignore the blatant spelling errors, it's a super last minute drawing at 3 AM (British time), but it's just there to get the general idea of what is going in my head. Don't really have a set budget but would like to save some money wherever i can and not destroy all my savings. I worked a lot of shifts this summer for this PC Build! Going to order parts next week (Waiting on the paycheck ) Other suggestions are still welcome!

So, I was thinking today about active chilled water cooling and how to improve upon it. In all of the guides and discussions I've seen about it there seems to be a consensus that a passive radiating section is not at all needed, since all radiators do is return the liquid to room temp and keep the whole loop there. And what we want with our chilled loop is liquid that is below room temp. Case closed. Nope. My theory is that a radiator section, when placed directly before the return to the chill box could actually make the system more efficient. Since there is a marked difference in the temp of the water in the chill box and the water that is cooling the machine, I think it makes complete sense to use a radiating section to cool that warm liquid down a bit to conserve the material that you're using to chill the liquid in the cooling chamber. (most of these I have seen use ice, so that is what I am basing my theory on) I would love to hear the communities thoughts on this!

So I recently "downgraded" to windows 7 from windows 10, as some game that I had were having very odd issues, that seem to be fixed now. While the majority of improvements in windows 10 I can live without and prefer not to have like the touch screen optimized portions of the OS, there are things like the task manager that i would love to have in windows 7. I know there are stand alone apps that look identical to the windows 8/10 task manager, is there any way to get them to replace/ override the stock windows 7 task manager, so I can acess it like normal.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Brentfisher71/saved/xL8p99 <------- My planned upgrade. All the things that are labeled as purchased and have a $0.00 price tag are already purchased and are currently in my pc but the others are all things that I am adding as an upgrade. I do not have a very big budget. It is just as much if not less than the parts laid out in the link. I just want to confirm what I'm getting is adequate. I am a heavy video/photo editor and I am also an animator. I also enjoy hardcore gaming from time to time.

Any improvements for this build?

Need confirmation from the pro's for my new build!
RoyalPC posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I plan on building a new gaming pc, now since this will be my first ever build i'd like to be sure that i picked the right parts for the PC. I'd like to be sure that all my components will work with my motherboard and if I maybe can make some improvements here and there in the components in the same price range. I figured this is the best place to find out! All links are redirecting to tweakers.net. Please bare in mind that I plan on using this pc for im hoping a couple years to play games like csgo, h1z1 and cod on fairly high setting on a decent fps. I live in Holland (Europe ) so prices may difference from other country's and continents. The parts I picked: - GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G. Priced at: €255.- - CPU: Intel Core i5 4440 Boxed. Priced at: Priced at: €182.- (Stock cooling) Not planning to overclock. - RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00CEU (16GB). Priced at: €83.- - SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB. Priced at: €100.- - Internal Drive: Seagate Desktop HDD ST2000DM001, 2TB. Priced at: €78.- - Motherboard: Gigabyte G1.Sniper B6. Priced at: €89.- - Disk Drive: Samsung SH-224DB Black. Priced at: €20.- - Power Supply: Corsair CX500M (500W). Priced at: €70.- - Case: Sharkoon T28 Green. So, i'm thinking of upgrading my current system as more up to date games are running slower and slower, being a gamer myself i want the best performance possible without breaking the bank when it comes to gaming at 1080p. I personally think an upgrade to my gpu and cpu would be the best course of action but some more experienced advice about what to upgrade and what to upgrade to would be very helpful. I have listed my parts below with links to them on amazon. I Still want to stick to AMD for my Cpu for their price, and Nvidia for my Gpu just for personal preference. The objective of my build is to be able to play all new titles at 60-80 fps at max settings. Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AMD3 Cpu: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Gpu: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (Gigabyte) Ram: Corsair Memory Vengeance Low Profile Blue 4x4GB DDR3 1600 MHz (16GB) SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB Storage Drive: 1tb Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 PSU: CM BQT L8-630W PSU Pure Power

I am planning on ordering these parts today but I want to know what you think. This is my first build, and it will be used for gaming almost exclusively. The CPU is overclocked to 4.3GHz and I have about £150 on top of this to get everything (inc. OS etc.) as well as any improvements. Thanks http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/TehDragonGuy/saved/F3Vbt6

Okay, this is my first review, and I will be doing it for Windows 10... When the WAN show archive went up yesterday I wanted to become a Insider. So I did, and here are my first experiences. The thread will be updated if I didn't cover something and will be updated for some older game benchmarks. So, lets tune in, shall we? THE INSTALLATION The Installation via USB was hard enough... Now you wont see the (Press any Key) message pop up... A normal Windows 8 logo will pop up or your manufacturers logo, depends... Don't take your USB out! You will know if it's booting into the installation because it will take longer than normal boot in your current OS! (If you have already installed version of Windows 8) The installation starts and you do the same steps as in 8 or 8.1, but weirdly it doesn't ask for the code they provided you... if you're on USB and it does a first reboot reboot, let it reboot, go into BIOS and change the boot order back from USB to HDD, or you will just loop the installation which can corrupt your boot loader. This time there will be a black screen for a longer time, and a Windows 8 logo for a longer time... When it boots it will setup things and then you need to type in your email, and this time you can't bypass this (I couldn't) This makes sense, when you go into Hotmail you need to provide them another email address from now to use it (for backup purposes) and they even ask you a mail you provided in the Hotmail for activation purposes.... Activation goes like this! 1. Email here 2. Password here Click next 3. Secondary email you provided in Hotmail while becoming a insider Click next 4. Code they will give you on your secondary email PUT HERE! Click next It should activate everything now, and you're ready to go... It automatically installs a generic NVidia or AMD driver in your system FILES, FOLDERS AND NEW UI! When you boot up after installation, you will be presented with the same desktop as on windows 8... But, HOLY CRAP, THERE ACTUALLY IS A START MENU which reminds more of XP! I won't provide any pictures, if you wanna see you gotta do it for yourself If you already had Windows 8, even if you don't click upgrade in installation (because you want to dual boot just like I did), they will give you the same wallpaper you got on Windows 8, on your desktop... Also the Metro interface still exists, but you need to enable it... To do so: Right Click on taskbar -> Properties -> Start Menu tab -> Uncheck first option... There you go... There is also a search icon, it just does quick searches on bing, when you first use it the message will pop up: "Why didn't you use the Start Menu?" Which made me laugh as hell Third Icon on taskbar manages your opened windows, and HOLY CRAP! WHOLE DESKTOPS... Yes, you can add those... When you add them it just duplicates the first one you have, but you can customize the second one, and leave the first one alone! On your taskbar will also be pinned: Internet Explorer, File explorer that was renamed to "home", Store app and nothing else Everything else is pretty minimalistic... And did I say that the Metro apps (now intergraded in the start menu) don't have to be full screen? You get everything you got with 8.1, but it also suggest what you should install based upon your last OS, which is nice! Also there are animations which are actually cool looking (slight and smooth gliding when opening windows), so you won't need to turn them off! Also the Window borders are thinner which you can notice from my other photos DRIVERS, HARDWARE DETECTION All the hardware is properly detected, drivers for them are preinstalled, but the newer ones seem to be working fine... SPEED In daily use I noticed that it is a bit faster than normal, but, I will also have to do some light gaming on this (pretty weak laptop) INTERNET EXPLORER It is very fast, and sturdy, good for watching videos, playing flash games, but the software from this forum doesn't cope well with it... In fact I'm using it right now and you cant Quote, change the size and color, but everything else tends to be fine! DUAL BOOTING Dual booting is nice and in fact you can dual boot 8, 8.1 and 10 no problem, but it uses either 7 or 8 boot loader... (7 uses ASCII and 8 uses actual GUI) Even tho there is one weird thing, it says (recovered) next to the name of the older OS... EDIT: Dual boot menu doesn't always appear and can't find a possible solution for the problem... So multiple restarts required for 8 or Techinal Preview boot... GAMING This section is coming soon... Okay, had some time with the new Windows, and gotta say, the gaming performance is pretty good... And another thing i noticed is that heat output of the laptop is so much less defined... I currently tested on games like: CoD4 and Burnout: Paradise City. We all know that the new games will run well on the New Windows, but the older games are always the problem... The FPS was better... Before Windows 10 I had 10-30 FPS but now I have from 30-60 with drops to 15 when multiple cars are crashing and such... CoD4 was never hard to run... Mod on custom mods like Zombies and Deathrun with custom or not custom map I always keep above 30 FPS, but most of the times I get 250 lock if playing Deathrun servers... Next games to test: GTA: SA MW3 or COD2 TF2 NFS WORLD... For now, my grade would be 8/10, speedy, sleek, nice... But it all comes down to gaming, or it will be the same thing as the old pal windows 8, except with start menu BUGS AND GLITCHES The new Windows has some bugs! It will sometimes freeze, and the Explorer will sometimes glitch, requering a whole restart of computer or ending the bugged process, things sometimes don't open, but it almost never crashed, which is nice since it's only in Beta! Windows will automatically provide you with questions for feedback which you can answer on the fly... If you are experiencing a glitch just report it to Microsoft, still this is a very nice OS!

Currently I see that Steam OS can only games, play games and do game related tasks. But the technology behind that seamless streaming is so good that I want it to be able to do more. I don't want to use Third-Party Apps, or other extensions. And I don't want to have more systems connected to my TV. I want a machine that can do all the streaming for my house. For movies, shows, music, pictures. I want to stream from mobile devices without the need for anything extra. I want it built into the OS. While I am at it, I also want it to be the only extra machine I need. I want to be able to have one machine, and stream to every TV, maybe through a dongle but I want it do do everything for everyone. DIFFERENT STREAMS. Netflix on one and game on other, phone picture streaming on other. I want it to be my Media Machine, my Game Streaming Machine and my NAS. I want to build a Steam Machine and have several drives and the Steam OS will have functions for NAS use. This way my games, movies, shows, music, pictures and anything else is safe. Aside from using computers for individual use. I want the Steam OS to have every functionality there is. I don't think Valve would lower the quality of game functionality but if they are going to make a TV box, then I want more than that to justify it. I want it better than XBONE in terms of functionality. And I want it built in, no developer method (Linux so open-ish). Is this the perfect set-top box? Do you think Steam OS will ever be this perfect? They will probably have the movie/music streaming options later since its a no brainer.

This is not quite a repost of http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/195853-intel-broadwell-information-intel-core-m/. That was general info/big picture. Here's an article on exactly what is improved in Broadwell, and it's pretty sweet for scientific computing people, cryptographers, virtual machine users, and more! http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-14nm-broadwell-y-core-m,3904.html ^To any moderators. This is a bug in your forum. I pasted a Tom's hardware link over a LTT link in the editor, but it redirects to LTT still. The same link is reposted below. The biggest improvement is the floating point multiplier, where multiply/divide instructions used to take 5 cycles and now take only 3. And here I thought Intel couldn't much improve their already vastly superior FPU (compared to AMD's). I'm still gonna hold out until Cannonlake at least, but DAMN that's sexy! Here is the tweet. [i will embed the tweet when I figure out how.] I mean, tbh, this seems somewhat intuitive and a "given". In that if they already have Mantle in BF4, it should be portable/usable in all Frostbite games. I just thought it was a cool thing to consider. All Frostbite games have a natural advantage when using AMD over Nvidia now. When we look at future benchmarks for these games, remember that. Just remember, this will be true of any other developers who use Mantle in the future. So, it's more of a 1 time development cost, since Mantle is modular (you can use one part without using another, a game doesn't need to be designed purely for Mantle to use Mantle). So I don't think the whole "they have to learn a new language" thing for devs matters.
