Hey There, I'm having trouble with my computer when I boot it up. For a good month or so now when I have been booting up my PC my BIOS settings always get reset, my PC doesn't post, and then I have to press the reset button to get it to post and I have to put them back in every time and then my PC then goes through into windows. Now this week, the problem has been getting worse, where I get up to the point where I have to put my BIOS settings back in, then sometimes it just goes through to a black screen (no error codes), sometimes it posts and is loading into windows then shuts itself off again and boot cycles, sometimes the PC has to repair itself, sometimes it just doesn't post at all. I have tried resetting windows 10. My motherboard is an Asus Crosshair VIII Impact, and I have windows installed on 2x Corsair MP510 480gb SSD's in RAID 0 (I know its stupid but I only use my computer for games and I wouldn't be too bothered if they kick the bucket and they lose everything). My problem then becomes two-fold. I understand that my BIOS settings not being saved is a CMOS battery issue and needs to be replaced, however in this particular board, the battery is heat shrinked into a plastic cover, when I cut the cover off, the battery connectors have been like soldered onto them and I'm not sure how to replace the battery, therefore does anyone know how to replace the battery on this motherboard. I have attached photos of CMOS battery. I have submitted an RMA to see if they can change the battery. Then my booting issues, why do I have to press the reset button to get it to post, why do I boot cycle and it shuts itself off randomly after it has posted, and why is my computer just being dank really lol. Would love to hear any suggestions or if anyone has had these problems before. Thank you

Greetings. How much of an impact does your antivirus have on your boot time? I moved from AVG's free version to Avast's free version, and was curious as to how much time an antivirus would add to the boot time if it was enabled as a startup process. Is the 'BIOS time' indicator in the corner of the startup menu an accurate representation of this? Regards, Aereldor.

Greetings. I use Logitech Options to change the pointer speed of my mouse, the direction of the scroll wheel, and the function of the gesture button. I need to have this happen at Startup, which is why I have Logitech Options on Startup. However, the tool has an enormous startup impact, with no less than sixteen sub-processes, several of which are duplicates. Is this normal? Have any other MX Master users experienced this? I've already reinstalled once. Regards, Aereldor

AMD CPU pins bent inside socket due to impact
Jogi6 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So, I was asked to check a pc that was damaged by some sort of impact during shipping So as long as i'm working with Computers i've never seen one of this. And i'm not sure if it's even possible Apperently a AMD chip pins were bent inside a socket maybe becouse of impact. And the impact was massive. CPU cooler was dangling, and my first thought was that he was unlatched, but then I saw Motherboard has bent. Next i've taken the cpu out of the socket and noticed that pins in one corner (top left corner where the gold arrow is) are slightly bent. And the CPU is going smoothly in and out of socket, but on the other boards cpu can't sit in socket. And i can't believe that CPU socket is also bent somehow. As i sad the impact was massive GPU dented a heat pipe by hitting the FCH (chipset) cooler. What is your opinion on bent pins??? -
Story - Every now and then I hear,see,...(interact) in one way or another the reference to LTT somewhere by someone. Just thought to share where did I saw it as to people can experience same. Hello, this is my first post here so I hope I'm not doing it completely wrong. I am in the process of configuring a new system for myself, and this will be my fist complete build from the ground up. I have done excessive research on almost everything but can't find an answer to my last question: Which M.2 Slot on the Crosshair Impact (Expansion Card) is directly connected to the PCIe connection of the CPU and which one is routed over to the X570 Chipset on the board? I want to use a single PCIe Gen 4 SSD and don't want to stress the Chipset just because I don't know better. Also, there would be a small (but not noticable) hit to performance if I would use the chipset-connected M.2 slot. The only hint I found was at the Asus website (picture attached) but it does not clearly says what I want to know. I already had a phone call with the german Asus technical support team, but they would not even get what I wanted to know ("yes, there are two M.2 slots ... both are PCIe 4.0") - really frustrating experience. I am in desperate need of a definite answer to this question so this does not haunt me anymore Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Hi Linus. My soon-to-be 17 year old son Nick (aka Nerdy Nick by his mum here) has been following you since he was about 10 & idolizes you (your talent, your ideas & esp your humor!). About 5 years ago, I remember him pleading with me to take him to some convention you were having in Canada. At the time I found that very amusing, but over the years I have seen what an impact you have had on his life. Yesterday, I found a letter he wrote to you about 5 years ago, but for some reason he never mailed it. The letter gave me an idea. That idea being... for Nick to meet you in person as a surprise for his upcomimg Aug 23 birthday! ! Any chance you are in the states this month (or anytime for that matter) & could possibly squeeze a few minutes of your time to make one amazing young man very happy? I know its a crazy idea, but I'm a mum who loves her son crazy & would love nothing more than to show him that love with something that he would find totally crazy. I'm also looking to find something extra special for him this year, as we lost Paul (Nick's dad & my husband) to cancer last year. Please let me know your thoughts and thank you for being such a positive role model in my son's life. Sincerely, Nick's Mum

Does any have a ROG board and uses the bios settings to control the fans? The issue i am having is i cannot define the lowest duty cycle for a fan, if i enter a value which is lower than defined it just changes back to the value. I have be left very confused and dont understand how to overide this. Please dont recommend AI Suite the version which comes with the board for me just fails to work and is buggy. PS its not my pic but looks exactley the same.

I am fixing to run three lines of Ethernet to my Living room from my Current switch. I am unable to run the cables inside the walls (Double wide Mobile home FML) so a surface run is my only choice. I am trying to figure out what I should use to hide the wires and make it look nice. I was just wondering if I used a metal conduit or Raceway, Would it impact the performance of the Ethernet cable? Im currently running Unshielded twisted pair.

ok so im looking at doing a build this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZF7yMp im gonna put it inside the ncase m1 v5... already ordered it my question about the 980ti hybrid... would it be possible to modify the card by removing the rad and hose and adding my own tubing to it so that i could use the pump that is on the card to run a full custom loop? basicly i want to open up the 980ti and use the mounted pump as a system pump for a single 240mm rad, full coverage block fro the impact, and obviously the video card, do you think the pump is strong enough for that? would i still need an external res for fluid, or could it be a full closed loop inside the case?

When it comes to overclocking the Maximus VIII Impact can do so via BCLK and is capable of going as high as 400MHz BCLK, but that also depends on your cpu and cooling solution. To help with such a high OC, the board comes with a Power Impact III, a daughter board mounted vertically, that house the full delievery power system you'll find only ATX boards For this power daughter board, this board isn't the first to have it. Other Asus board has it too, like Z87i Deluxe, Maximus VI Impact and VII Impact. $249.99 at newegg Going from a ITX to a fully size ATX board, the other board from Asus ROG line up is the Maximus VIII Extreme. The board was talked about before, a few months back, but this time Asus has the official specifications. Hello I am currently searching parts for my Mini_ITX Gaming PC in a homemade case. I want ("need") to use the Shadowrock LP from BeQuiet due to space constraints. BUT, is this cooler compatible with the new Asus Maximus VIII Impact. I'm worried that the heatsink will collide with the Soundcard. I REQUIRE ASSISTANCE! pls.

Before I say anything else, yes I do have 669 Mhz RAM which came free with my toaster. Anyways, I plan on upgrading to 1600 Mhz RAM, but how much of an impact will it have on my gaming performance? I play games like CS:GO, Killing Floor 2, and LoL. Will it bump up my fps a lot (like 10-20 frames) or just a measly 3 frames? Thanks.

So looking at the asus impact viii and it has a u.2 nmve connection on board but not an m.2... wtf is the point of a u.2 slot when ssds can get close to the speeds of an m.2? Is there a u.2 to m.2 adapter? Please someone just explain the whole point on the u.2 connection.

I'm starting a new watercooled mini-ITX Build in the EVGA Hadron Hydro. And now my question is which of these mainboards I should use, I've read a lot of reviews and overall they seem pretty equal BUT there are a few reviews where the Z97 Stinger failed (corrupted BIOS, slow response, instability etc.). I would favour the Z97 Stinger since I want to stick to one brand and the Hadron Hydro would look better with all parts beeing from EVGA. Since I'll be OC'ing I would also like to hear some feedback from people who are using these boards. Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm from Germany but i love LinusTechTips and its community, so i decided to ask for help here So please excuse bad English, if necessary. My problem: I bought an Asus Maximus VII Impact motherboard for my new ITX built because of its features, and cause i had good experience with Asus yet. After i had everything put together and did the first boot, everything worked fine. I haven't done a fresh installation of Windows, just kept my SSD with windows already installed (also on a Z97 Mainboard). I use a switchable power cord to turn off all the devices like PC, monitor, speakers etc. This can also be switched over internet via an Arduino i set up myself, so i can turn on my PC from wherever i am and connect to it via VPN. Thats why i set the PC to turn on after AC power loss in the BIOS, that worked fine with all the mainboards i had so far. The Maximus also turns on when i switch the power on, but everytime i do that, it starts updating "iROG3", whatever that is. The exact massage is: ________________________________________________________ iROG3 is updating. Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent system bootup failure. 15% complete ________________________________________________________ This takes about 2 hours, then reboots and boots into Windows just fine. But when i then turn off the power, the next time i turn it on again, the same problem occurs. If i leave the power turned on, and just press the power button to start the PC, everything works fine. I have read about this problem many times, but often it's about a loop always starting the update again after 100%. In my case, after the update is completed, the PC boots into windows normally. The reason why i opened another topic is because there was no real solution, and this might be a special case with the power switch thing. I did various BIOS updates, i had 2601 installed by default, then updated to the latest 2801, no change, then downgraded to 2701 and back to 2601 again, the problem always stays the same. After BIOS Updates, it also updates iROG1 and iROG2, takes about 1min each, but not iROG3. Does anyone have an idea what i can do? Or does anyone have the same mobo and can reproduce the problem? I hope this can be solved somehow, so i don't have to remove the MB just for RMA. My specs: Asus Maximus VII Impact Intel i5 4670 Corsair XMS3 16GB (2x 8) 1600 Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 2x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Corsair CS550M In Win 901 Case

For example: Ok so lets say i play GTA V and have 100fps, then i start streaming. Will my FPS get down or streaming is fully CPU/RAM job. This is really important for me to decide something. And if it impacts the GPU too how much it does ? ( for example: from 100fps 50fps ? ) Thanks in advance ! Hope i explained myself correct !! ( BTW ITS MY BIRTHDAY !!! )
