Hello, I'm troubleshooting my grandpa's PC, and there's this really weird issue, where the screen freezes and rectangles appear on the screen, then after some time, it restarts, and the cycle continues with random times in between failures, I think it could be a cpu issue (as the computer has integrated graphics instead of a gpu) could anyone help me troubleshoot it?

would it be better for me to upgrade to an atx or micro atx motherboard? (Sorry, I forgot to give reasons for asking) I have a motherboard that is not fully compatible with my rx 6400 amd gpu (though this doesn't entirely matter in this question) and want to know if I should upgrade to an atx or micro atx (It isn't out of personal preference, since I have a mid tower, and is mostly for most "effective" at keeping cool and all that) and, while I want to spend as low as effectively possible, is most worth it in general. for ram I could just carry it over and I have a 3 3600 ryzen cpu that will be replaced with a 5 3600 along with the purchase of the new motherboard.

So I just used the windows media tool thingamabob to install a fresh copy of windows home 10 pro and went through the set up without a windows key because I was going to do it later but, and much to my surprise, when it was all said and done, there was no dreaded watermark. Yet, when I went to the windows activation settings it said I did not have a key. This is my first time building so I have no idea if this is normal or not. I'm asking because I already bought a key and can't return it. Will I still need it? Anybody know anything about this?

OKAY so i have a SSD its a few years old now, but it is lightly used. Sandisk SSDA120g IT shows used 30GB, 80gb free in windows. I attempt to add 72.7 gigs worth of files on it. it gets to 35 GB, tells me that the destination drive is full. I look it shows 128MB free I verify the file contents that copy over as 35g(according to file properties when i select all of them, not in any folders) Delete said 35g as selected shows 80gb free. Tried two diffent computers to see if it was something with the windows install. Reached out to tech support and they said "huh, thats wierd"

Whenever i leave my laptop open for like 20 mins without touching it all of the applications start to look like this .... I just have to Restart the apps to fix it or my Laptop if it happens often enough. my guess is its a problem with the RAM but I'm not sure. Any ideas what the problem could be ? Hi, sorry for this wall of text, I will really appreciate it if you read thoroughly and have an idea as to how to delete a simple desktop shortcut link. Mods, I don't know as to what extent I can show my file pathways, but I'd need to at least reveal some parts of what comes after C:\ or D:\ as to find hope to solve this... predicament. I wouldn't be posting here if I could find the solution using Google to this situation that I am in. I will detail what has happened, and what I have done so far and what things I've noticed. Afterwards, I will be giving instructions as to how to replicate my said situation, if someone isn't bothered enough to run it in a VM or actually try it out for themselves. I am forgetful, so I tend to save my passwords in browsers and DO NOT USE A PASSWORD MANAGER like a dumbo, I know, but it makes it easier for me. I also have documents that I wish to safekeep so aside from having it backed up in cloud storage, I also have it backed up in a separate drive, so no worries there. I DO, however, not wish to do a fresh install of Windows. Why? I do not want the hassle of setting up everything I had on my system that was setup lmao. What I'm worried about is, deleting Program Files folder and it possibly killing my machine. But it's not what you think. I used to have a 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD System Storage setup, labeled C:\ drive and D:\ drive respectively. Now, the Desktop is located and stored in the C:\ drive, but since it only has 120GB of storage, I relocated the Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Documents "System Folder"s to the D:\ drive. I do not recall setting my Documents system folder with file path C:\users\*****\Documents as the default system folder or any of the sort, all I know is, I right-clicked on it on the side bar in Windows File Explorer, you know, when you double click on This PC, clicked Properties, went to the Location tab, and moved it into the D:\ drive. No subfolder, just the D:\ drive. One day, I decided to copy the files in my C:\ drive, the 120GB SSD into my documents folder because.... well because I was stupid and had nothing to do? I'm fairly sure I had a reason for doing such action but whatever it was, it was stupid. That or the system suddenly DID decide to make the Documents folder as the default system folder, somehow replacing C:\ drive? but STILL keeping the Local Disk (C:\) drive and I mean, there was no problem there. All was well and good up until the dreaded day of the HDD beginning to fail came. I sensed it was beginning to fail because of frequent hiccups in my system and bought a 512GB SSD (it's all I can afford). The plan was, use EaseUS Disk Copying software so that I would just have to set that up, plug in the new 512GB SSD which is gonna be the new C:\ drive with the 120GB SSD to be the D:\ drive, and then have everything up and running. Everything IS up and running. Until I tried deleting a desktop shortcut. That's when I knew something was up because an error message popped up saying "C:\users\*******\Desktop no longer exists" even though it DOES. IN THE NEW 512GB SSD. The "Documents" System Folder is now named as "C:/" and somehow, any file that I make in the Local Disk (C:\) Local Disk Folder is now ALSO duplicated in the 'fake' "C:\" that is actually supposed to be named "Documents". When I try deleting the contents of the Fake C:\ Local Drive folder - yes, Windows somehow doesn't see through the fakeness that a Documents System Folder is pretending to be and somehow BEING the real C:\ 512GB SSD drive - it RENAMES the ACTUAL C:\ drive into "Documents" and at this point, I just give up. Is it duplicating files and taking 2x the amount of space? or is it just one thing but not really? Is this quantum computing? I'm so confused, please, I JUST want to delete a desktop shortcut url. Thank you ; u ; -------------------------- Instructions to possibly "replicate" the situation. 1. Relocate the destination folder of Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Videos, and Music to D:/ drive, which is a separate real life hard drive by.. well I think you know now but by right-clicking on the folder on the Windows File Explorer side bar, clicking Properties, clicking Location, and replace C with D in "C:\" 2. Copy the contents of the C:\ into the D:\ drive 3. Relocate the "Documents" folder by Right-clicking on it on the sidebar in Windows File Explorer, clicking Properties, clicking Location, and replacing "C:\users\****" into just "D:\" 4. Use a disk cloning software, whatever you have, set it up so that this new D:\ drive is a copy of the C:\ drive 5. Try removing any of the desktop shortcut links. If it works, then I guess I'm screwed here -------------------------- TL;DR I cannot delete desktop shortcut urls because apparently, there are two C:\ drives, one is the real SSD one, and the other is a fake one, a System Folder disguising and being identified as a C:\ drive

SO after such good reviews from Linus i really wanna get a IFIXIt pro tech toolkit, but i have been looking through the amazon reviews, and they are not great ( ordering from there for the free shipping) So i am wondering is it just people writing whatever, or is something wrong with the amazon Kits and if so Should i buy directly from their websites then ?, Cause according to these reviews, they say its poorly built, and like terrible materials used and the kits are poorly put together, and such , so i am just wondering if any of you Own one, what do you suggest i do ?

So this question really extends to all PC parts, but is mostly about GPUs. I basically want to know how someone can just know any graphics card. Like if I asked someone here how good the GTX 960 is, they would already know how good it is, what games it will be capable of running, what it's compatible with, etc. How? Honestly, how can you know so many parts? Is it just from years of experience? And how can I get to a point where I can be this knowledgeable about PC parts?

I was wondering what would happen if you just painted your motherboard. Like you just took a can of red spray paint and had a fun time lol. Or your CPU as well. And I don't mean the boring top side. I mean you painted the bottom part. But also, like, still painted the top as well lol

I built this system two to three months ago and have had problems since day one. It stutters when starting programs and crashes whenever I try to game on it. So I sent my motherboard back to the manufaturer and they gave me a new one; The problem persisted. So I got Prime95 to see what the hell was going on. Whenever I stress tested the cpu on its own everything was fine but as soon as I added the RAM into the test cores started to fail. That didn't satisfy me so I went ahead and disabled SMT to see if that would fix anything, but again they kept failing. I went in search for some new RAM, Confident that it was the issue, I install it and my system doesn't post I get 3 beeps per DIMM and then 8 more beeps. I searched everywhere but no luck to what that means. Should I just send The CPU back? I have a nzxt kraken x52 240 liquid cooler. And with it comes a 4pin fan splitter. It splits the one 4pin connector into 4 fan connectors. I have the nzxt fans and my noctua fans plugged into it. A few hours ago one of the noctua fans started to ramp up for no reason, and only the one fan. I checked the cam software and the fans were only 30%, still the noctua was way louder and at more rpm. So i opened the case and i touched the wires on the fan that was loud, and it got quite again. This happened 3times and everytime if i moved a tiny bit on the GPU wierdly enough the noctua fan went quite again. Why does this happen ? Its so strange. Im not even sure wich threads i should post this.

Hi! For months I have been wanting to have wifi on my rig but the one that I have sucks for real (Range is short, not even suitable for browsing the web). So, I saw this https://www.ebay.com/itm/112470704703 and this https://www.ebay.com/itm/142086820752 . But will they have VERY long range? Because I need bigger range. Or the Converter and a realtek card (Got out from Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBY). Thanks a lot, and I hope I get replies; unlike my troubleshooting rig thread ;-;. Edit: Posted links for view.

Hello, I have 2x 4GB DDR 4 Kingston Hyperx ram. every time i play a game gtaV or PUBG my game closes and i get a error windows is running low on memmory, i checked with taskmanager on my second screen and it said ram was 80% while i was playing pubg. So i ran the windows memory diagnostic and it was 100% complete with no errors found. all my temps are good. is my ram just broken or am i forgetting something? this started happening 1 week ago Sunday it was working fine Wednesday I was going to game again but it kept giving me this error. Also i don't get this error when playing CS:GO or Rust. I put the ram in different ram slots but my PC didn't boot so i put them back in 2 and 4.

Hi! I, wandered a question that well, let's face it, it's kinda stupid. So my question is, Why do low settings give you more fps? Especially AA. I wonder why jagged lines gives u more fps instead of the inverse. I know you maybe saying: "Dude, thats so stupid. Low settings = profit" I just wanted to know why and how. Thanks in advance.

So what I want to do is buy a GT 1030, maybe it isn't good for price/performance but I still need it, temporarily. My question is would it bottleneck on a Intel Pentium G860 CPU(bad idc looking to upgrade that's why I'm here so people can help me) I don+t really know if it will bottleneck because the CPU is bad and not that bad for that kind of GPU. What's your opinions? I really need all the information!

So Microsoft says the specs for the Xbox X are "6 teraflops of processing power and 12GB GDDR5 graphic memory" would this actually beat my pc. My specs are a I3 6100 3.7GHZ, 8GBS of DDR4 ram and a RX 460 4Gb.

So from what i have known more cores is not all that helpful for gaming, but for my build especially i wouldnt put a gpu higher than a 1070 with a 7600k , maybe a 1080, but what i thought is that with like a 1080 ti or titan xp at 4k you can get bottle necked and more cores can actually help, so in those cases a 7700k would be a wiser choice, is this how it is or is the performance gain from extra cores minimal to none ?

I'm almost done with my budget 700$ rig. but i don't know what ram to get. i do know i want it to match my color theme (green\black\white) NOT CHIP LOOKING. but i don't know what size ram i should get. what I'm expecting to do with the pc build is lots of gaming, and a decent amount of streaming and video making. so for a pc that's doing all of that, what size and or amount of ram should i get. i also need a power supply of course, on pcpartpicker.com it says the rig is going to use at least 250w yet i feel i should use more than that, tell me if I'm right and if so what should i get. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jqs7Gf for storage i thought it would be simple but i heard some storages are bad even though they might be the same amount. and if so please tell me what i should get (remember I'm on a budget so cheapest would be best)
