So I, and I assume quite a few other people have the problem that my computer will exit sleep mode to do scheduled tasks like running a backup script or performing a system update. And when it's done, it won't go back to sleep. This means when I'm on holiday and away from my computer for a while, I seem to always come back to a computer that has been on for nearly the entire time, I've been away. It's a waste of power and probably a little bit of a fire risk too. But of course, I don't want my computer to go to sleep if I'm using it OR if I've deliberately left it on to download some large files or to run something that I need it to be running. My idea is to have some kind of "Smart Sleep" Where, after being inactive for a certain amount of time (I'm thinking 2 or so hours), it will check itself if it's actually doing something. (Let's say CPU usage is over 10% or if more than 5 Mbps of data is being transferred) If these criteria are not met, then it will put itself to sleep, but if it detects that it's doing something and probably should stay awake, then it won't. I wonder if this kind of thing exists. I don't think I would be the only one looking for something like this

I am thinking of starting a YouTube channel upgrading and moding old pc's I find in the e-waste and maybe selling them and stuff, I was mostly wondering if anyone had any video ideas or would be kind enough to tell me what they would like to see in my youtube videos, I'm willing to put in a lot of effort with editing and moding. -
Hi I got an Amazon Voucher for 150€ as a little present from my co workers, and wanted to buy something with it. I have a house full of stuff already, ssd;hdd;ram;cases;servers;laptops;tablets;nas;phones;microphones;cameras;speakers;rgb light strips;wifi ap;headset;bluetooth headset;mechanical keyboard; I cant think of anything to buy there to be honest, its a shit store, but having the voucher already activated on my account I have to spend on something, or else my pocket starts itching so any ideas on something useful like a self stirring cup or idk , anything that has at least purpose

I'm kind of new to this area, I managed to grab a 3080 and now my 60hz 1080p monitor feels sad. Im looking to get a 144hz monitor with gsync thats atleast 2k. want it around 27" and im not a fan of ultra wide but if its neccesary ill make an exception. I was just hoping you great people might be able to lend me a hand. Much love in advance

So I have a slight problem/ nonproblem. My bosses keep giving me their old PC hardware. I love it for the most part as I used it to build my wife's current streaming rig and in general some upgrades to both of our setups. Here is a list so far of everything I've been given. So I was searching the web for a little while to find my bang for the buck laptop and i found the "Acer Extensa 15 (EX215-22-R4E7)" which is not available yet but somewhat "cheap" to preorder in my country compared to what else is available. Hi! So today I've finished spray painting my mouse (Chillblast aero rgb gaming mouse) and I can't get over how damn good it looks now I want the community to give me a rating of the mouse on looks /style and colour combo. This was my first time actually spray painting so I want everyone's ideas and tips and improvents I could do for future preferences. I'll give you an original and after. I spray painted it because it will fit my white keyboard and my Japanese blossom tree desk mat! (Also the mouse hasn't been reassembled but the shells are there with the base)

So recently I found this: 3.00GHz E5450 Quad Core QC Intel Xeon Processor SLBBM SLANQ And i was very interested to see if I could make a budget little gaming pc with this CPU. Does anyone know a mobo that supports this? And one with a PCI slot for a budget gpu? Id like to see what I can do, any advice or tips?

Hello, that is my first gaming pc that I am building and I really need some help! I just want to check if this "configuration" is any good for the pc to run games at 1080p without issues. I am mostly playing Rainbow 6, but planning on getting some other games later on. before buying this system can anyone tell me if it is any good and if you have any other recommendations I am happy to hear them. Hey Linus Media Group, and everyone else who may be reading this, i have a few interesting ideas for videos to go on the LinusTechTips channel. 1st i think you guys should have another (updated) ultimate studio tour and let us know who works with you now because theres a lot of new people i have no clue who are 2nd I think for your next scrapyard wars, you need to do a crossover with certainly austin evers (he seems to really like your scrapyard wars, and he even tried to imitate it) and someone else such as bitwit or marques brownlee or someone. You need to be in teams, luke has to work with austin because that would be really funny to watch and linus with whoever else is there. Message to the LTT crew: I have been subscribed to the Floatplane Club for little time, but I have learned to love it. But there's something I would love to happen. What if this becomes really like vessel? I do understand your servers might not be able right now, but could you imagine Jays or Austin also posting early content here?(or any other tech youtuber) It would be a tech enthusiasts elite club, with far more members. There could be exclusive content, and other cool stuff. It's just a cool idea

So I have a contact that works for a little private school that could use some slight PC upgrades for their students (I've seen them, a lot of their current PCs are circa-Compaq era and I/Os are starting to die). They don't need a lot of power from them (apparently as long as they can run Rosetta Stone and some word processing program). Any suggestions on how to make these as affordable as possible? Edit: they would like to upgrade 66 computers, and their school head would like some extras so 75 is the goal.

Hey guys, this is my first post/topic in the LTT Forum. (Thus I hope I am posting this in the right thread). If you could customize your own rackmount case for free, what kind of a case would you have designed? (size in units, focus in terms of cooling ->performance vs. silence etc.) I came up with this particular topic after bingewatching some LTT videos, and came across the "Personal Rig Update" series for Linus's customcase by Protocase (the one designed by Taran, which can be downloaded as a cad file on protocase's website btw), and am genunely curious how you envision your ideal rackmount case and what it would be used for primarily. Many would probably go for a watercoolingcompatible case as Linus did, but I have never been particularly fond of aforementioned cooling option. Purpose: Studio (Sound- and Videoengineering, Editing, Encoding etc. -> connection to various rackmounted studioequipment) & Gaming Cooling: Mine would be completely aircooled (all 140mm fans and the dh15 cpu cooler by Noctua), Height/ Dimensions: At least 6U, so i could install up to 6 fans in the front and the back on low RPM. Design (& Sounddampening): I think I would try to imitate Fractal Design R5's design (my favourite case), including the front design with all the noise dampening both inside the case and the front door, with the same side-swappable mounting capabilities for the latter. I would also apply dustfilters to all fan-cutouts. (No windows/ glass). I doubt that anoise level of <27 dB can be achieved with this many fans, but that's still tolerable for me.
