I grew up on the mid-1990s WD Caviar HDDs, and I'm wondering if there's anything that's louder at boot and data access, of that physical size and with that connector/protocol. I prefer HDDs that are quiet spinning, but loud at accessing data.

Hello i have an advantech SBC PCM9375F and USB pins look like this (see picture) it is just opposite of a normal usb header on a motherboard. Does anyone have any idea how do i deal with this? I need this usb to be used as a boot device because my main disk or ram is corrupted in some way It is an industrial computer and the only other storage option is a IDE 2,5 inch male out made for IDE flash drives so it is useless for HDD unless i find a converter which i cant.. I also cant troubleshoot the IDE flash drive on another computer because of the same problem it has a female connector Im happy to hear any advice or new information thank you in advance

I've been troubleshooting an old dying Windows XP laptop and tried to use one of these adapters to test the 2.5" IDE hard-drive on my desktop: https://www.microcenter.com/product/463322/vantec-ide-sata-to-usb-30-hard-drive-adapter I plugged it into the USB hub on my keyboard and as soon as I powered it up with this adapter it started clicking. The next time I plugged it into the laptop it was dead, unable to find the OS. It had been working fine in the laptop for months. Do you think this adapter damaged the drive, or was it just a coincidence? The drive was probably at least 15 years old after all. I want to make sure I don't damage anything else with this adapter. I have an old Plextor CD Drive that I want to use for low-speed burning, and I would hate to break something else.

Hi, I need to use my old IDE drive tomorrow, but I can't find a cable for it. So my question is: Is it necessary to connect all of the 40 pins on the drive and motherboard? Are some of them just optional? Or do I need to connect all of them? PS.: I have no idea how IDE drives work so sorry for such a dumb question.

It's not often that you see tech companies care for so long. But when it comes to gaming, ASUS takes things seriously. "Republic of Gamers" (ROG) is their gaming-focused sub brand that provides the enthusiast with gaming motherboards, graphics cards, headsets and so on. There's even a backpack available for your ROG notebook. And their enthusiasm is not limited to present-day technologies. Today, ASUS revealed their new ROG IDE cables. John Trent, ROG representative, tells us: "We want enthusiasts to be able to build complete ROG setups. The technology is outdated, but hell, we released ROG SLI bridges not to long ago. We don't care." ASUS claims that these special cables can achieve transfer rates of up to 170 MB/s by the use of ultra clean and smooth copper, taking gaming to the next level. However, installing the cable the right way around is important. "Every cable, before receiving the ROG logo, is installed and tested for performance to determine the best direction of installation. Once it's determined, they print the ROG insignia on the motherboard side of the cable." And consumer feedback appears to prove them right. In many online shops, the cable was sold out only a few hours after release.

I learned to code with Komodo years ago, I've moved on many times since then but still have fond and painful memories of it. But hearing it's going Open source as well as it's forums may be closed down. Thought some may want to know. https://news.itsfoss.com/komodo-ide-open-source/

Heyo! I am in the midst of a Simracing wheel-rim DIY, and my Arduino/Coding skills are lackluster. I'm using a ATMEGA32U4 for a Porsche 911 gt3 cup button box + shifters. 10 push buttons, 2 paddle shifters and 2 encoders. = 16 outputs total as the encoders have 2 each. also want to solder a DIN connection to the board, and havent looked up how to do that yet eather. where i am stuck at is that i found a sketch that works from pin 2-10, 14-16. so im missing 1,11,12,13. the visible buttons on the board are 2-10,14-16, A0-A3. so im guessing i need some code to set up A0-A3 as normal pins. also i need code for the Encoders to be correctly red. atm they dont work propperly, (dont work as an individual puls every time i switch position). here are some pictures to feast your eyes on. Any help would be much apprichated! Brg Roth

I need an IDE to USB 3.0 (or 3.1) adapter with power. I'm having trouble finding one that doesn't have awful reviews. I was originally recommended the "Inateck USB 3.0 to IDE/SATA Converter Hard Drive Adapter with Power Switch" 30% of the reviews resulted in returns due to frequent problems: Incompatible with Windows 10, Doesn't recognize IDE / won't power IDE, & Prone to immediate failure. Any recommendations? I have a HX4R hotswap for diagnosing SATA drives @ home, but I need something that works with IDE and is mobile.

I've got several 250GB IDE HDD (2007 Samsung Spinpoint) that I plan on putting in an array as backup recording for a security camera system (high writes, low reads), the problem is that the 2x Jmicron JMB 36X based cards that I have only support 2 IDE HDD, and limit them to only 60MB/sec (aka USB 2.0 speeds) despite using an 80pin cable)-even in a RAID 0 array with a second 250GB HDD, and 2x 200GB SATA 1 HDD (which sustain around 85MB/sec on my LGA775 and 1150 motherboards) so they are useless for more than ODD. Are there any particular cards that would actually allow the HDD to run at their full speed?

So first of all what I am asking is if I can have help with this. My Arduino code: #include <SPI.h> #include <Ethernet2.h> int led = 13; String POST = ""; String SET = ""; // Enter a MAC address and IP address for your controller below. // The IP address will be dependent on your local network: byte mac[] = { 0x90, 0xA2, 0xDA, 0x10, 0x8B, 0xBF }; IPAddress ip(192,168,1,179); // Initialize the Ethernet server library // with the IP address and port you want to use // (port 80 is default for HTTP): EthernetServer server(80); void setup() { // Open serial communications and wait for port to open: Serial.begin(9600); // start the Ethernet connection and the server: Ethernet.begin(mac, ip); server.begin(); Serial.print("server is at "); Serial.println(Ethernet.localIP()); pinMode(led, OUTPUT); } void loop() { // listen for incoming clients EthernetClient client = server.available(); if (client) { Serial.println("new client"); // an http request ends with a blank line boolean currentLineIsBlank = true; while (client.connected()) { if (client.available()) { char c = client.read(); Serial.write(c); // if you've gotten to the end of the line (received a newline // character) and the line is blank, the http request has ended, // so you can send a reply if (c == '\n' && currentLineIsBlank) { // send a standard http response header client.println("HTTP/1.1 200 OK"); client.println("Content-Type: text/html"); client.println("Connnection: close"); client.println(); client.println(""); client.println("Jack's Arudino"); client.println(""); client.println(""); client.println(""); client.println("<h1>Control Jack's LED</h1>"); client.print("<form method=get>"); client.print("<input type='radio' value='0'> Off<br>"); client.print("<input type='radio' value='1'> On<br>"); client.print("<input type=submit value=submit></form>"); client.print("</form>"); client.println(""); break; } if (c == '\n') { // you're starting a new line currentLineIsBlank = true; } else if (c != '\r') { // you've gotten a character on the current line currentLineIsBlank = false; } } } // give the web browser time to receive the data delay(1); } if(SET == "on"){ digitalWrite(led, HIGH); } else{ digitalWrite(led, LOW); } } So when I run this code, I can connect to the web page 192.168.1.179 and it all works, but when I click, lets say the off box the LED switches off for a second and then comes back on. Like what is this magic? So I am asking for help to sort this out so the LED will actually turn off, and also my next step after this will be to make it so when I type say '192.168.1.179/?0' it turns the LED off and when I type '192.168.1.179/?1' it turns the LED on. This will then lead me to making my own Android app. Thanks

Hey guys, So I was wondering. I am about to get a PSU for a retro PC that I have but I need a hard drive. It didn't come with one (for obvious reasons). Is there any good alternatives for a 3.5" IDE HDD? I don't want to waste money buying one that might die soon. Are SD to IDE adapters worth it (etc.)?

So I have been teaching my self C for the past couple weeks during free time between classes, but I have yet to use a desktop IDE/Compiler. I have instead been writing my short little test programs on repl.it , and while it works well for simple stuff, I want to move on to something more complex. Which IDE do you recommend me using? I would use visual studio community, but does it support C?

I'm looking for the best free IDE and compiler for the Mac that has C++ support. I want to get back into learning C++. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I was using Visual Studio on my Windows machine for a little while and I discovered that I was just using the trial version and that it's paid software with a free student version. I'm not going to bother going to Microsoft to prove that I am indeed a student, so I want to know about any alternatives.

I'm on 3rd semester at my university and up until now we were just programming on java using eclipse or netbeans, but now all of a sudden a teacher told us that if we want a 100% on her class we have to make an app for android about her class, the thing is, while learning how to use android studio I wanted to try to add values to a matrix (an array of 2 dimensions, idk how you guys call them in your countries, that's why I clarified), normally this is very simple but I don't know how to make an edit text box add or ask for another value until the matrix is full. the most I have gotten to work is a simple addition and subtraction using edit text boxes i would really appreciate some help.

Hi everyone, So, I'd like to buy a laptop in late-September/early-October for about $400. I know, that's a tight budget, but I'm currently 16 years old, and my parents aren't going to finance it, and that's the money I have. So I mainly do development in these languages/environments: Android Flutter Java(FX) Dart Unity or Unreal (not currently doing any development in these, but I want to try them when I have the time.) My main IDE is IntelliJ Idea, which I am running on Linux. As for distro, I am kinda used to Ubuntu based distros, and currently running elementaryOS, but I am trying other stuff as well. But if the laptop can be "Hackintoshed", that would be the icing on the cake. I won't be doing gaming on this laptop, I have my desktop for that. I need the battery to last at least about 4 hours, but ideally more. Having USB-C would be a benefit, but not a requirement. The laptop should have (at least) 8GBs of RAM, since I have a bad habit of using a ton of Chrome tabs while developing. Having an SSD would also be a huge bonus (otherwise I need to buy one separately). Second hand is certainly an option, but I live in Hungary, so factor in EU pricing and shipping, not US. I am not afraid of upgrading the RAM or changing the hard drive to an SSD, but I'm going to need to factor that in the cost as well. I am also not afraid of doing weird stuff (eg. buying a Chromebook and replacing the OS on it.). I know this is a lot from such a tight budget, but I hope there are options. So what are your recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Unless I've missed some news somewhere along the line, SATA development is limited by the way it interacts with the CPU. USB has overtaken it for raw speed, so why are we still using SATA as our main drive interface for large numbers of drives? Scenarios exist where we need more speed than SATA in numerous SSD's in the same system. While NVME / PCI-E interfaces fill the gap for small numbers of very high speed drives it seems like a stop-gap while we wait for something better than SATA for traditional drive mounting. SAS can go faster but neither are specifically designed to leverage the design of solid state storage... Cabled NVME where massive PCI-E bandwidth is available? Imagine a connector where Linus can actually leverage the full performance of an array of high capacity SSD drives for a new high speed server project!! Discuss. Enlighten me

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble. I need to install Windows XP on my HP Pavilion 13-a013cl. I'm using XP SP3 and nLite to slipstream drivers. I tried slipstreaming some basic SATA drivers, but setup didn't detect my drive. I haven't had much luck finding the mobile chipset drivers. I'm running on Intel Core i5-4210u on this machine. Thank you!
