Seeing that people are still choosing Windows and OSX over Linux/GNU even after the W10 "spyware" etc, what would they have to do to make Linux rise to the top? Excluding what linux could do better and what game developers could do, what would Apple and Microsoft have to fuck up to make more people switch?

Hello guys. I wanna order some pc parts from Mindfactory.de and the site asks for my personal VAT ID. It's a reliable site, but this was weird. Can someone explain to me the situation? I'm living in Greece btw. Thanks for your time.

https://www.overclock3d.net/news/software/wolfenstein_ii_the_new_colossus_will_support_fp16_rapid_packed_math/1 So here's where things get interesting. Given that it doesn't appear that nVidia will have anything in the high end console space within the next 3 years what happens as more and more ports are optimized for AMD architecture?

source: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1323084 I really hope other developers get their heads out of their collective asses and never use this shit again it took time, but Denuvo got cracked in the end and Doom was one of it's "victims" - DRM doesn't prevent piracy, it hurts sales ps: Doom Update 5 was released yesterday https://steamcommunity.com/games/379720/announcements/detail/585862749595357814 but there's nothing in the patch notes relating to this DMR change --- hearsay on why Denuvo was removed from DOOM:

Hello everyone. Today I ran into an error that won't let me update my Z390 F8 BIOS. I want to update it to F10 since it has got a new optimized update for my CPU. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios I've downloaded the bios update from my motherboard website and put in the FAT32 quick formated USB which is put in 3.0port. Once I find the update in the BIOS, I proceed to install it and it gives me this error (BIOS ID CHECK ERROR). Any tips what should I do?

Game Critic Uses Brilliant Workaround For YouTube's Copyright Bullshit My apologies if this is the wrong forum area, and if it is, then will an admin please move it. Also, I did a few searches and didn't see this topic already posted.. So when competing claims are filed, no adverts are run on the video, very clever! Hopefully more people will do the same and Youtube will take notice and fix their broken system. Source

Source: Mashable It looks like Iowa will be piloting a limited program in which a number (Mashable reports hundreds) of it's licensed drivers will be able to use a "Mobile Driver License" on their smartphone in place of their usual plastic card. This brings up a lot of questions for me. Like how secure is this? Where would these be accepted? How much money could this save and will it net a positive environment impact? What if your phone dies and you have no other way to identify yourself? Would this be more of a backup for someone that might have lost for forgotten their wallet and/or identification. There are some environmental and administrative benefits. Obviously the DMV wouldnt' have to print as many new or replacement IDs. In the US people under the age of 21 typically have portrait oriented ID cards and overs have horizontal ones. Things like this and a persons address, height/weight/hair and eye color could easily be changed digitally without need for printing a new cards or carrying one of those annoying change of address slips with you. A number of items have all ready moved in this direction including proof of insurance cards, flight boarding passes, membership cards, etc... I remember working at grocery stores in college and having to deal with international students that didn't want to carry their passport and ID around with them everywhere so they brought blown up photocopies of their identification in order to try and be able to write checks. This seems to be a natural progression forward into the digital age. How long before we can (hopefully optionally) just have chips embedded in or arms?

I guess, I look young. People think I'm 14 or something. Whenever I go to the bar or the casino I get Id. They then act like I have a fake id and test it. Its really annoying. I even get id at the mall of all places. Seriously I'm 27 now. I don't know what to do. I grew a beard and had my hair out long. Even then they ask for id. People ask me how is high school lol. I graduated 9 years ago. Oh well lol. LinusIdTips. Anyone else have this problem? My friend never gets asked to show his id and he is my age.

Qualcomm has gone and perhaps created a far better method of fingerprint detection for phones than what is currently being used - ultrasonics. Better resolutions AND the ability to have a sensor anywhere on the phone and not just in the place of the home button or what have you. Good development for those among us who use the tech and perhaps a good way to make it more accurate and secure so it is worth using. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9029/qualcomm-announces-snapdragon-sense-id-fingerprint-scanning

Okay guys so I posted on the /buildapc reddit here - http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2qrui2/discussion_a_marketplace_for_custom_builders/ I said: Hey guys, I do a lot of custom PC building and such, but it's a pain getting clients, especially when you have to do all the legwork yourself. I was wondering if you guys would be interested in a site where people who want custom PC's can list their price range and location and people all around the world can offer to select parts and build a PC for them, then ship it to them. This way, everyone can have a chance to build and sell a computer, enjoy the work they do on it, and see someone use it with a smile on their faces. People would basically bid on the chance to build a pc by changing the parts they'd use or by lowering their profit margin or offering free shipping or something, and the buyer would ultimately decide who they want to build the pc, then they'd deposit some money and use a 3rd party like escrow or something to hold it until they are happy with the finished product. Users would handle disputes on their own, and if they get escalated, a member of the resolution team could step in. TL;DR: Do you want a site where you can offer to build custom PC's for people and get paid to do it? EDIT: A lot of people have been concerned about quality of the product. I was thinking of an ebay like rating system for builders or a verification process and verified builders get priority when applying to build a computer for a customer. There was a huge response from the buildapc community and I wanted to hear your two cents on the idea. I've responded to I think every single comment that was posted on the original reddit thread so if you have something similar to say that was already commented there, unless there is something huge the commenter was missing, there's no need to re-post it here but thanks for the thought. To elaborate on the original idea above: I worked with a custom PC building company for a year or so back when I lived in the US. I built and shipped a ton of budget machines, and occasionally a nice one I got to have fun building. A lot of people are in the market for PC's, but they go to dell.com, see the deals, and see a cheap computer and think "Oh I'll just buy that cause it's probably gonna work for me I think." If they get what they need then cool all is good for them, but if something breaks, they're stuck in a bit of a rough spot where limited warranties and poor technical support are super discouraging. This marketplace will offer personal support for the computers you buy, offered by the builder of the computer so if anything they built might break, they know how to fix it and can work it out with the buyer. When people don't know what it is they need or how much they should spend, they tend to overspend on something superfluous, or underspend and get a crappy machine that won't last them more than a year (people selling Celeron computers in 2015). With a marketplace like this, buyers can say what they do on their computer, and their price range. Builders can offer different configurations and prices to sway the buyer to make a smart choice. The buyer will instinctively look at the cheapest offer, but with verified builders offering a more sensible build, it may push the buyers to make a wiser decision. Instead of guessing at what your needs are, you've now got a panel of (supposed) experts at your beck and call trying to get you what you need at a competitive price. Legal issues with the site concerning liability will be dealt with later, but the basic principle would be that a verified deal is one made with a verified builder and a buyer and we take some more responsibility, where unverified deals are made with unverified builders and a buyer and place the burden of law on the buyer and builder more heavily. Builders can get verified either by submitting an application with a processing fee, or by completing a certain number of builds as an unverified builder with happy customers. An idea came up to do all the purchasing of parts through the site with partners like Newegg and amazon and NCIX so buyers know how much the builders paid for the parts and can make sure the builders aren't running off with the money. Finished products can be verified on the buyers end when they receive the machine by running a speecy or some other program and submitting the results to the site to confirm they received what they had ordered. That's all I can think of for now. I'll be watching the thread and actively replying to anyone with any questions or suggestions or just words of affirmation. Thanks!!! - Eric TTG P.S. - Anyone wondering about the upkeep and cost of the site, I replied in depth on the reddit thread. - I'm a full stack web developer with lots of experience making sites for businesses and clients and I've got a whole lot of background when it comes to this stuff so designing and building the site will be all on me. Site hosting is done easily through Amazon Web Services. I've got a lot of credit in my AWS account thanks to amazon being amazing and they offer tens of thousands of dollars in free credit to startups with ideas they support. The site will generate revenue by taking a small percentage off of each sale and possibly by offering premium builder status for verified builders who would pay a fee to get verified and that fee would cover any kind of verification costs we might have. TL;DR: Would you be interested in a marketplace where people buying computers can say their needs and custom builders compete to build a computer for them that suits their needs best?

ID-Cooling has shown off this new case which is another super small, compact ITX cases. I know lots of people like their rigs bigger, but I personally love the idea of a tiny little case that is an absolute powerhouse. Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/id-cooling-mini-itx-compact-gaming,26994.html#xtor=RSS-998 The case is very barebones holding a single slot GPU, Mini-ITX Motherboard, not-too-massive-but-still-decent-sized CPU cooler and one 3.5", one 2.5" drive. The front IO only has to USB 3 ports and no 5.25" bay or slimline optical drive either. The main feature of the case being the aluminium panel that runs the length of the entire front of the case. I'd like to see this same case but with a straight brushed aluminium front rather than a painted one.

It is with great sadness I report that Classic Game Room, a YouTube channel that has been around since the dawn of YouTube, has left. For reasons related to the Content ID Claims that YouTube has been making Mark from CGR HD released his final video today December 12, 2013. The video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8kIrsw8-io I am extremely aggravated with the stupid Content ID Claims. I understand that they must happen, but doing this to the point where a channel has to close up shop and move. YouTube needs to get it's sh*t together.

Since there is a post on explaining your user name. I want to do a spin off on it by talking about how you choose your profile picture. Please spread the word so it can be pinned next to explaining your username. I will start. My picture shows my favorite person Victoria Justice. I loved her since her major beginnings in Zoey 101 and though her show Victorious. I will follow her in whatever she does. Her Music, Acting, and dancing amazes me. This picture was when she was doing a PSA announcement with ATT about texting and driving. Here's the Video Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk-qtZxD6-w
