After a reasonably long thread with various parts being changed out, as I did on my home workstation, I am starting a new thread to show the final itteration of this build. It has had 3 different motherboards in it, 2 different CPUs and various other changes so this is the final version of this build - the next work PC will be a scratch build, which hopefully won't be for some time! Like my home workstation, it is totally overkill but will hopefully facilitate some flexibility on the tasks its put to use on in the future. Hello linustechtips members. The past week my pc have been running games very poorly. I build my pc around 2 years ago now, and everything has been running amazing until recently, it seems to only effect my games. My hardware; Asus rog strix 2080 super oc i9 9900kf 8x4 corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200 mhz Asus rog maximus xi hero (wifi) corsair RM750 80+ gold NZXT kraken x52 x2 Samsung 970 evo plus 1TB NZXT h510 I will go into more details now. I have been using csgo to test while my pc has been acting weird, and here is a screenshot for context. The game is in 1440p with settings on low. As you will be able to see in the picture, I have 92 fps, and gpu usage of 95%. This is how my pc have been running every game I have tested such as, league of legends, rust and so on. https://gyazo.com/bedda8376548ab03b3c7277ae2a5ac9a A few days ago, when i booted my pc up and started csgo, my fps was back to it's usual self, as you will be able to see in the screenshot, approx 571 fps with same settings as mentioned earlier. The pc felt normal and everything worked amazing, or so i thought, the next morning when I woke up, my pc was back to acting weird with very low fps, it has now been stuck like that since, and once in a while when I boot it up, the fps in games are great. If you look on the last screenshot, you will also be able to see that the gpu usage is way lower at around 58% compared to the 95% usage in the first screenshot. https://gyazo.com/f99f8ec35f70520fb8da3e1fc68afefd I have been running some cinebench r15 tests, and i get around 2000-2050 in score, which is around the normal for a stock i9 9900k. I have also been running some 3dmark tests, and they also seem to be as they should. I can send a screenshot of one of those, if needed. Solutions I have tried so far; Reset windows Reset bios back to factory settings, and only enabled xmp. Downloaded newest and older versions of bios. removed all drivers for gpu, cpu and motherboard and downloaded newest version and older versions. All thermals are looking fine, from what I can see. V-sync are disabled in NVidia control panel. power settings is put on high performance. I am running out of suggestions myself, for what It could be. Just bought a high end gaming system for constant 240 fps gaming. So with that being said I’m having a weird stutter in games and on windows it almost feels like im getting 80 to 100 fps in games at times. But my fps doesn't drop. If im in windows and i have a tab open, example task manger and i grab it with my mouse icon and move it left to right it stutters when moving it. I have played other games and it still feels like low fps. I updated to the most recent 1.07 bios. I updated my drivers for the monitor and all graphics drivers. I even freshly installed windows 3 times with hopes it would fix it but it didnt. I tried a brand new i7 9700k still the same stutter also tried my 1080ti and other set of g skill ram. Still the same stutter. Also something to note i had trouble booting into windows installer the first time i had to put it into safe mode with clocks the cpu down to .80ghz or so. Then I used luumis overclock guide for the i9 9900kf. I had this stutter on all stock settings for ram cpu and graphics no matter what this stutter wont go away. Hello everybody, Hope your doing well. So my friends and I are going to be putting together a server so that we can host our on instances of games ARK, Rust, etc. I say "server" but really I mean the components that came from my last rig. Currently we already have the mobo, and cpu. A friend has bought me a new power supply, my stipulation was that they help contribute to the cause, the other is up grading his memory and sending his old stock. Now on to my initial question. I have currently been running a TT water 3.0 riing 360 as my cpu cooler, it has and continues to perform well. However I want to upgrade to a newer one mostly because I want to possibly achieve an overclock on my i9 9900kf, even better would be to be able to better cool the gpu a RTX 2080super. The GPU cooling is entirely optional. But i feel like in the few years since i got the water 3.0 possibly aio or sir cooling, I'm really not particular to either, I just want the best option for my cpu. I know that I could achieve the best cooling for both with a custom loop. However, that is not in the budget at this time about $250 - 300 usd would really be the max limit that I'd be willing to spend. Also I've never attempted to setup a custom loop and I'm worried I would essentially be creating a lawn sprinkler in my pc case. Any and all suggestions would be helpful. This has literally been keeping me up at night thinking about it. Also as a side not it would be nice if whatever it is is compatible with asus aura sync. Hi all, I call this a home workstation because I am in no way a gamer but decided to build a beefy system for working at home and some (very) light gaming purely as a technical exercise- I am fascinated by great feats in engineering and the evolution of hardware and software to give us what we have available today. What I have learned is computing at this level is expensive! And I didn't even go "all in" - stuck to 9th gen Intel / not the fastest RAM / not a 2080ti or 30xx / only 2TB storage. So kudos to the gamers who really want the best rig to give them any edge possible. I couldn't ever recall a system costing so much with near-flagship parts in the 90s but perhaps I am looking back with rose-tinted glasses. This is now the final revision of this rig - the poor case has had an i7 3770k & i7 9700f before settling with this latest iteration. So, any further building in the future will be a scratch build. It really is a nice machine - but I ask not what my machine can do for me, rather, what can I do with this machine as it totally overkill for what home/work tasks I would typically do on a PC. I know that whether it be gaming, 3D rendering/CAD, music/video production, sysadmin/coding, web browsing, office applications etc. for the next few years at least, there isn't much I couldn't throw at it and it would struggle. As my daughter becomes more IT aware, if she was to use it for school, games etc. I know she won't be complaining the computer is too slow that's for sure - for now anyway! I decided to have a break from maxing out my home and work machines in 3rd gen Intel spec, and join the big boys’ club. Originally, I went for an i7 9700f CPU but on productivity benchmarks such as Cinebench, I was amazed to see how not having Hyperthreading makes the PC operate slower than an i7 8770! Many have pondered why they left out Hyperthreading on the i7 9th gen, perhaps it was to make a market gap between the i5 and i9, perhaps it was because they had a bad batch and binned them as non HT or perhaps they wanted a break from being slapped around about Spectre-type vulnerabilities? Whatever it was, for this machine I ended up replacing the CPU with an i9 9990kf and I will upgrade my work workstation with the i7 9700f – still a vast improvement over the i7 3770K it currently sports.
