Hey guys, I had the idea of building my own low budget server so I went into the google-jungle to look for a wild low budget CPU, but I couldn´t find a single answer to my question. A couple of friends and me are playing ARK on a private cluster so I had the idea to build a small server instead of paying virtual servers every year.(520€/year) In theory this server should do the same work for less money. And of course there is way more potential to do other stuff then just paying for one game. Someone would say that the energy costs are to expansive, but if I pay less then 500€/year for it I can deal with it. Is there any alternative for more performance or less costs? And which one should I take, finally? Please excuse my bad English I´m not using it very often. Budget (including currency): 400-800 Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: multiple VM, some game servers, maybe TS Other details Dual Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 (6 Cores, 3,5Ghz) 100-200€ dual cpu socket Mainboard 150-200€ 8x8 DDR3 Ram 150-200€ or Intel I7-9700k (8 Cores, 3,6Ghz) 290€ B365 Board?(not sure about that) 70€ 32GB DDR4 Ram, 2666Mhz 150€

Hi Guys, I've been recently thinking of this config in terms of desktop. Does this kind of combination make sense in terms of efficiency of gameplay? I mean i7-9700K + RTX 3090? I found a comparison of it with Radeon VII and with even greater CPU i9-10900K I see the Nvidia + intel accelerate better. Do you have any other views guys? https://www.gpucheck.com/en-usd/compare/amd-radeon-vii-vs-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3090/intel-core-i7-9700k-3-60ghz-vs-intel-core-i7-9700k-3-60ghz/ultra/ultra/-vs-

Hello, I have a problem. I recently bought a PC with RTX 2060 super Aorus and intel core i7-9700k my PSU is cougar and is 650watts and Aorus z390 pro. The PCU has only 8 pin CPU connector, but the board has 8+4 is it possible to reach 5GHz on all cores with only 8 pins and if not, could I use one PCI Express cable?

I currently run a 2080ti with a i7-9700k, should I upgrade my cpu, or is it fine the GPU I have?

So, I recently built a new PC and I’ve had a few issues with it. Here are my specs: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro BIOS Version: F10 CPU: i7-9700k RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z 16 GB 3000 GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Gaming OC SSD: Inland Professional 1 TB HDD: 4 TB Seagate Barracuda PSU: EVGA 750 B3 80+ Bronze I’ve had issues getting into the bios to overclock my CPU. When I boot up my computer, the screen is black for a moment, then goes to the Windows login screen. I’m wondering if it’s booting too fast. I looked up alternate ways to boot into the bios and found that if you hold shift + click the restart button, it will give you troubleshooting options and allow you to go into the bios. When I tried this, it restarted and attempted to go into the bios but instead it stayed black and a red light on my motherboard came on. I believe that this indicates that there is an error when booting. After a short while, my computer booted straight to Windows without ever showing anything on screen. I’m not sure if there’s any work around to overclock without entering the bios or if I should just go ahead and return my motherboard. I also would have another reason for returning it since when I tried to plug in my HDD initially, I discovered that two of the SATA ports on the motherboard don’t work. Does anyone have any advice/solutions?

In my country (Spain), AMD 3700X and i7-9700K have the same price and because I'm building the PC exclusively for gaming I don't know which CPU choose, I am really having a bad time with this doubt. First of all, it's the first time I buy new CPU + motherboard + RAM in my life, and I want it for gaming on ultra the most time possible without feeling that my CPU is not enough for new games, I'm very tired of mi i5-2500 incapable of running some open-world games. THE PROBLEM IS: All the benchmarks in games says that i7-9700K is clearly better because of his 4.8GHz above of the Ryzens 4.3 GHz. BUT , I don't know which one CPU will age better for gaming: ¿Ryzen 7 3700X because of his 8 extra threads or i7-9700k because of his 0.5 extra GHz? I have read that future consoles will be mounted on Ryzen 3000, maybe new games will begin to do more use of threads than now... is it worth it anyway to lose these 0.5 GHz from the i7 9700K? I don't want a Ryzen 3600, I want something to play at best maximum time with a 700€ (720$ +/-) budget. My hopes are that with a high-end CPU I will gaming 1-2 extra year. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-amd-ryzen-7-3700x-review?page=3 EDIT: A user said: what GPU will be in this build then? CPU argument means nothing if the GPU is slow. But clearly the idea of buying a high-end CPU is to only upgrade GPU by time to time

Rock <--------- Me---------> Hard place
Isle-Renner posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey all! I find myself in need of some friendly advice, so please help if you can! Super quick back story, started a build in 2016 and recieved a life changing injury to my back...now it's finally time to finish the build and I'm between a rock and a hard place. Here's why... I've already purchased - Corsair 780T case - MSI gaming M7 Z170A mobo - EK Monoblock for the Z170A MSI mobo 2x8Gb G.Skill Trident Z Silver/Red 3200mhz - EK PE360 rad - Bitspower 250 res w/ EK D5 pump, Bitspower black sparkle pump housing - Singularity Computers (AUS) Res to rad mounts (NOT CHEAP) Now....here we are in July 2019 and I am finally, and barely able to dedicate a bit of cash to finishing the build. What's the problem you ask? The issue I am facing is I have spent hundreds (CAD) on the mobo and ek monoblock, not to mention all the water cooling components not in the form of an AIO, and I am unable to use the newer Intel processors. I would love to buy an I7-9700k, but my MSI M7 Z170a wont accept it. I have been told I can run a I7-7700k if I update my BIOS. Otherwise, I'm looking at buying a new mobo...and having to try and sell my z170a & EK Monoblock, and either buy a new CPU waterblock or scrapping all my expensive cooling gear and yet again spend money on an AIO for another new mobo. Ugh. I'd like to run a RTX 2070 Super if I can get my hands on one, as well as a 144hz 1440p monitor. The PC will be used as my entertainment system, movies and music as well as World of Tanks, Battlefield 5 and a couple other common titles. IS IT WORTH GOING THROUGH ALL THAT!? Or should I just buy a I7-7700k and finish with the gear I've already invested in? Will I be missing out so much that I wouldn't enjoy the new system? Is a new Z390 w/ 9th gen chip nessessary to enjoy a RTX 2070 SUPER or 2080 at 1440p on high to ultra settings? VS Using an MSI Gaming M7 w/ I7-7700k? If you made it this far, I really appreciate your time and any feedback you can share with me. Thanks very kindly. Isle-Renner -
Will the cooler master Hyper 212X air cooler work with an i7-9700k at stock speeds? Also will it fit in a H500i case? Cheers

Hi all! I recently upgraded from a 1080ti to a 2080ti and this has caused my CPU usage to skyrocket in games to the point where my i7 9700k @ 4.9GHz is stuttering. The GPU usage will be maxed out or at least high 90%. I used to be able to stream onto twitch while playing but now when I do with the same exact settings except with the 2080ti in, my stream is super choppy. I used DDU to uninstall all the old drivers and installed the newest drivers for the 2080ti, I've tried turning off HPET. Temps are all fine no higher than 70 for the GPU and 80 on the CPU even under full load with realbench. Any other ideas or tips will be gladly appreciated and if I ned to upload pictures of anything just let me know andI'll post them ASAP.

Hi everyone, This is my very first post here at LTT. It would be great if you could give me some advice, or slap me in the face and wake me up from the dream of buying an Alienware Aurora. I am looking at an Aurora R8 from Dell website. It could be customized to i7 9700k CPU, Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti GPU, 32 GB RAM and 1TB SSD. It costs about $2200 USD before tax. It looks like a pretty good deal to me. I am tempted to buy that mostly because I want something faster, cooler and quieter than my current MacBook Pro 2017 to run my python scripts, edit photos on Lightroom and Photoshop and do other random things. I am not a game player at all, but I do love programming. I've only played Diablo III on my MBP and it is hot and loud AF. I want to use the 2080 Ti mostly to see how good it is for GPU acceleration. So my major question is whether the Aurora is a good computer for general use other than gaming. Before posting this, I quickly searched the posts here and found that the Aurora case was not well designed for cooling. I am wondering how bad it could be in terms of noise and thermal issues. Someone suggested to upgrade the case after the warrenty expires. Does Alienware Aurora have a good motherboard as well? Also, I saw rumors saying that Intel would finally launch their 10nm processors during this holiday season, and I would like to know whether it is somehting worth waiting to upgrade the new processor. Any other Alienware related tip is also very much appreciated. BTW, in case anyone is interested in an Alienware desktop, there is a pretty decent sale on Dell website. One Aurora model has $580 off, plus 17% off Intel game day offer and $200 visa prepaid card offer. This is my first time buying a desktop, and it seems very exciting to me. Check that out if you are interested. Thank you everyone!

Hi guys! So i got myself a I7-9700k and went on to try my luck overclocking it. By the looks of things my chip can reach 4,9 GHz on all cores with a V-Core of 1,38 Volts while remaining stable. Do you guys consider this voltage safe? Or do you think this will shorten the lifespan of the chip noticeably? I don´t really want to go lower on the overclock since i think its pretty pointless then. I could just stick with the standard 4,6 GHz boost on all cores then i.o. Temperaturewise it went up to 90°C. on 4,9 GHz in cinebench (on the standard 4,6 GHz its sitting at around 78-80° C. while stress-testing it. Thanks for your replies in advance!

Hello everybody, im a first time poster here on these forums :) I’m building a new pc and planning the CPU to be an i7-9700k. I know these chips come with a lot of overclocking potential, so I want to take advantage. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with an MSI z390 gaming plus board and overclocking. I’ve seen info where they say it’s good and that it’s bad. That or does anyone have any suggestions for a good motherboard at around $150? I’m not planning to go crazy with the OC but hopefully reach the common 5ghz people have been hitting. Thanks!!

Okay. So I’m planning on upgrading my CPU from a super hot i7-8700k to the new i7-9700k. I know the the cpu is compatible with the motherboard, a ASUS ROG Stric Z370-F, and the socket works and it’s all fine there. But will I run into any issues with bios? Or say if I try to overcloak would I lose some effeciency?

Hey all, I recently built a i7-9700K system on a Asrock Phantom Gaming 4 Motherboard. There isn’t a lot of reviews of this motherboard from reputable sources that I could find but I’m just curious about the VRM solution on this motherboard. Is it a 5 phase design with doublers or an actual 10 phase? Also are the VRM thermals going to be ok with the lack of a real heat sink on the motherboard (there is a really small one on the left side of the board by the I/O)? And will they be ok if I want to overclock my chip to 5ghz on all cores (assuming my 750w PSU and the silicon lottery permit so). The rest of my pc specs can be found on my profile. Thanks

Wonder if Linus can get a hold of one for "review". And just in case you were wondering how much this costs in American dollars, it comes out to $43,015.65, and this is just the starting price. Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU - my current one is i5-8400. I heard 9th gen is really hard to keep temperature low and I can't afford liquid cooling yet. If there are any other propositions than those 3 CPUs then write them down, please. Here are my specs: - Z370 Tomahawk - Gigabyte RTX 2060 (3 fans) - 4x4 GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz CL15 - Silentium PC Spartan 3 PRO (CPU cooling) - Silentium PC Vero L2 600W - HDD 1TB + SSD 256GB ADATA SU800 Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, i´ve noticed that my i7-9700k is suffering from heavy usage - and therefore also temperature spikes when playing CS:GO. Most of the time the usage is hovering around 25-40% and the temperatures are also fine - sitting between 57-63° C. (I´m using the Noctua NH-D15 cooler). Sometimes the usage spikes up to 80 and sometimes even 95% while the temps are rising up to 82° C. Obviously my CPU-Cooler fans are ramping up heavily if that happens. I´ve noticed that this issue also depends on the map i´m playing. On some maps it happens quite often and on others just from time to time. I should note that i´m not running any background tasks while playing and apart from this CS:GO issue, there are no such problems with the CPU when playing other games i.e.. I did also play around with the Graphic-Settings, but nothing changed. I´m getting around 250-300 FPS depending on the settings. I know that such high framerates do put heavy load on the CPU- but that much is concerning for me. Do you guys have any ideas why this is happening and whether it is normal? If it isn´t - are there ways to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my Desktop soon, meaning new mb, CPU, cooler and RAM. I'll probably go with the ASUS Prime Z370-A II for mb and the i7-9700k for CPU. Since the mb doesn't support the CPU without BIOS update I will need a separate CPU just for updating. I'm trying to not have to spend another 120€ for an i3-8xxx.. I read about AMD sending old Ryzen CPUs to those that have a new one for updating. Is there such a offer for Intel too? What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance Ian

Hey, I'm feeling pretty dumb asking this but I'm absolutely stuck. I've got a Asus ROG Strix Z390-F motherboard with an i7-9700K. I wanted to overclock it manually but just can't figure out how to change the core ratio. The field for Core Ratio is just grayed out like some other things like Core Current Limit or Core Voltage Overwrite. I've be searching the internet for quite a while now but couldn't find any information on how to change it. Hopefully one of you can help me with this.
