I have an i7-8700 CPU that normally idles around 35 degrees C. As soon as I open up google chrome, the temp spikes up to 55 degrees at 60-70% utilization and then drops back down. Is that normal CPU behavior? I dont think the CPU should be using that much of its power just to launch google chrome?

I dont know if this is an issue or not but every 1-2 seconds on a balanced power plan my cpu jumps to turbo speed. changing maximum processor state to 99 percent makes the same thing happen but instead it just keeps jumping to base clock speed rather than the turbo clock speed. So when it's enabled every couple of seconds it jumps to 4.28 and when disabled the base clock speed. This occurs even when Im just looking at my desktop and all I have open is this HWinfo64 to check it. It's an i7-8700(non-k) Is it normal to constantly jump up like this?

Herss my system. Processor: Intel Core I7-8700K Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS X HERO (Wi-Fi ac) CPU Cooler: Corsair H150i Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32Gb(2x16Gb) 3600Mhz Graphics Cards: 1 Geforce GTX 1080Ti Storage: Samsung SSD 960 Pro 2Tb m.2 (O.S. and Programs), 2x 2TB Sata Drives for data. Fans: 6 LL120 RGB Corsair fans I have a 1200 Cooler master Watt PSU Here's the deal, built it from all new parts almost 4 years ago. Ran fine until a couple weeks ago, and just went black. Powers up fans and lights and such, just no POST. Thought maybe is was the Proc, replaced it with matching. Nothing. Went to replace the Motherboard today and found that the PSU cables were literally welded to the MoBo. So now I am wondering, should I get a bigger PSU? Or do you thing the PSU, just freaked out? Thoughts?

During loading screens my CPU temperature shoots up by a lot. On average in game -- the CPU is 40-50 degrees. However; Say I boot minecraft; and in the time it takes me to get to the minecraft start screen, the temperature had to be getting into the 80s before lowering back down. So what I did was lower down the VCORE 1.15. So temperatures now only get to 65/66 during loading. MSI afterburner tells me the cpu is using 70-100 watts of power during that time of loading. The TDP of the CPU says its 65 watts. I applied fresh thermal paste back in October. is there something going on with my CPU? Hello, So about 3 years ago I bought a HP prebuild gaming PC (OMEN 880-p1xx) since I don´t have any experience in PC-building. After some time I got a harddrive error which sometimes caused my OS not to start up or (if it did) run very stuttery (sometimes it worked just fine). After exchanging (and upgrading) my M.2 i still got the same results which led me to believe the Motherboard is the issue. Since the warranty expired I´m now looking to replace the old motherboard (HP 8437) with the ROG STRIX B360-G GAMING. Is this a reasonable replacement and would you guys recommend doing a motherboard swap without any previous experience in PC-building? Thanks for your help!

My actually temps are like 37-44 while gaming sometimes rising to 50 before going back down. When it idles its 28-29 with spikes up to 45. Is it safe to keep gaming with this cpu? I dont want to really decrease the lifespan. It only ever got close to the 90s in prime95 and none of the games I play push the cpu that hard at all.

Hi guys, so I've been reading online about load line calibration and how it affects overclocking so my question is what would happen if I turn my load line all the way down to 1 on my Asus tuf b360m-plus motherboard, I currently run an i7-8700 undervolted at 1.115V manually but in games like rainbow six where I leave frame rate uncapped my temps are spiking to 78-82c and my current load line by default is set to 7(max) I've always thought something has been up with my board after I got the 8700 because it ran fine with my i3-9100 and all the reviews of temps were quite low. So just wanted to know if drop my llc could I reduce temps and still be stable?

Hello everybody. I am planning on upgrading my PC for since I got 1440p, 144Hz monitor and my GTX 970 won't cut it anymore. But I am thorn apart between CPUs for this resolution as it is more intense on GPU rather than CPU and do not want to waste money as the holidays are coming. I will mainly game on the computer and probably won't do any content creation. I am trying to chose between Ryzen 5 1600, Intel i5-8400 and Intel i7-8700 and do not plan on overclocking as overclocking requires much more money for better board, cooling, PSU and I don't think the extra cost is worth it for just few frames in 1440p. I made the below 2 builds. Please give me your thoughts. Note: I have not included SSD as I already have one. Hey guys. I need a peace of advise and some additional information. Bought 1440p 144Hz Monitor, but need a stronger graphics card since the 970 won't do 100+ FPS in most games at that resolution and upgrading to 1080 is near. However when I am at it, I was thinking of buying a new system (current one in the description) and I am wondering whether to buy Ryzen 5 1600 or i7-8700. I don't need a K version cuz that means a lot of extra expenses such as overclocking PSU, Motherboard, cooler and the price just gets greater and greater. My question is, do you think if the i7-8700 is going to be worth it as I lack information about it. Thank you in advance.

I'm planning to build a kinda "budget" PC and I'm hesitating on the CPU between the AMD or Intel CPUs. Both are slightly the same priice ($10 diff) I'll use it for both gaming and some productivity (nothing heavy) Can anyone give a reason to pick one over another? Ryzen 7 2700x Or the Core I7-8700

Hi, yesterday I was building new PC with my friend. And I found weird difference between temps of our same CPUs. His brand new i7-8700 is ~15C cooler than my exactly same i7-8700 (two years old). So: We are using same CPU We are using same cooler (SilentiumPC Fera 3 HE1224 v2) with same fan. I am using MX-4 paste, he using MX-2 I am using Zalman Z1 with 2 IN and 1 OUT fan, he is using Fractal Design Define S with 1 IN and 1 OUT fan. Both tests were made in 25C ambient and from cold start Both tests AIDA64 CPU+FPU Stress for 5 minutes Friend's CPU temps after 5 minutes: 71C, 70C, 64C, 59C My CPU temps after 5 minutes: 84C, 83C, 84C, 86C Both CPUs jumped to given temps almost instantly and stopped there for rest of the test, So what is wrong with my CPU? Conditions are almost same. I doubt that case making so big difference even in cold start.

So, I've been building computers since 1990 - professionally in the early days, before I moved on to more interesting jobs - I still know how to get a good contact with the CPU cooler, and in all the systems I've built, I never had a CPU going to 100 C, when its not really doing much. Not even one of Windows more annoying services spiking CPU load massively has ever caused me a problem in 28 Years. I've never gotten a system back from a customer because of overheating, its been a non-issue. I don't even want to know what will happen when I run a real load on it, like a synthetic benchmark, it'll probably leave a crater Details: - Non-K Intel i7-8700 with a Thermolabs LP53 cooler and a Noctua A9x14 PWM fan - obviously no intention of over-clocking this - I got it because of its rated 65Watt TDP. - 600W Gold rated Corsair SFX PSU, 32GB Corsair DDR4-3200 RAM, 1TB Sandisk NVME M.2. - ASRock Z370 Fatal1ty - even without overclocking, I prefer the higher quality, cool and stable running components used on boards designed for over-clocking. - GPU not yet installed - gotta get the CPU under control first. (Or maybe CPU will run cooler if it doesn't have to render?) - I had first built this into an HDPLEX 65W TDP (max 95W) rated passive case, where it exhibited the same issue, which at the time, I blamed on the case and proceeded to switch to the current case. - Just having the system on and sitting in the Bios screen, CPU temps are 49 C and main board temp is ~38 C - This is my first time using an ASRock board - used to be a Micron customer for main-boards and when they stopped, switched to ASUS. But ASUS Z370 ROG Mini-ITX board didn't have Thunderbolt, so I got ASRock this time. Questions: - Reading on the internet, I find there's a lot of people having issues with this processor - has anyone been able to get it to throttle before it reaches the boiling temperature of water? - Is there a way to set the main board to slow it down, under-volt it? - Is it possible to disable ASRock's ability to have multiple cores run at full boost (a capability I wasn't aware of, and I don't know if that's the default) - I can't install a bigger cooler and I can't install an AIO either, there's no room, and at any rate, it seems to be a problem with the CPU not throttling itself...?

I have a very cheap motherboard (ASRock B360m-hdv) and want to get one that will suit my system better. I may also purchase a 2070 in the future for this new motherboard. What motherboard will be good for an I7 8700 and gtx 1060 6gb (possibly a 2070). I don't want to spend lots but I don't want to cheap out. I am fairly new into the pc world and would appreciate your help. I'm using i7-8700 and 1080ti. HOW CAN I PUSH THE GAME TO WORK ALL ON GPU INSTEAD OF CPU ?? I do stream and my Games always use too much CPU usage ( around 50% ) so then when I stream, CPU Usage always goes up to 100% , Causing the games lag and stutter. There's a Guy in the forum showed me his setting and his CPU and GPU Usage, CPU only 10% , GPU 100%. I've tried his same exact setting but still sit around 50%. And not only PUBG , All different game like LOL, R6S, Paladins take around the same CPU usage, never got stable 60-70fps ingame. I've tried every setting possible, used NVIDIA control panel, ... Help me with this one please. Many thanks !!

Hi guys, I'm looking for a powerful but simple and affordable gaming PC. Something without much going for it. This is what I'm looking at so far. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($298.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: Gigabyte - H310M A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($55.35 @ Amazon) Memory: Team - Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($139.99 @ Newegg) Storage: ADATA - XPG 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive ($97.99 @ Newegg Marketplace) Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Turbo Video Card ($709.99 @ Amazon) Case: NZXT - H500 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.50 @ Newegg) Power Supply: SeaSonic - EVO Edition 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($44.99 @ Newegg) Monitor: HP - VH240a 23.8" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor ($109.99 @ Amazon) Keyboard: Redragon - K552-R KUMARA Wired Gaming Keyboard ($33.99 @ Amazon) Mouse: Redragon - M602 Wired Optical Mouse ($14.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1565.77 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-07-10 06:37 EDT-0400 Rationale CPU: I wanted an 8th gen i7 CPU. Would've loved an i7-8700k, but I feel that it's a waste without a z370 board. Also, it doesn't come with the cute intel stock cooler. Motherboard: Cheapest motherboard with M.2 Slot Memory: I really don't like the look of this RAM. I prefer something that's color white, or something without an enclosure or heatspreader (green RAM). But this is the cheapest 2x8 RAM so it's here. Storage: I wanted something really simple. 2.5" SSD or HDD complicate things a bit with their wires and real estate space. So I went for an M.2 SSD. Video Card: I love blower style cards. And would've actually preferred the FE. But FE isn't available on Nvidia anymore. This Turbo one doesn't look that bad, and it's white so it would blend well with the chosen case. Case: I super love the aesthetics of the NZXT H500. And simple square cases in general. If anyone could suggest something that I might like, then that would be great. Note: I've already looked at the S340 and the S340 Elite. I hate the S340 for the easily scratched window. And the H500 seems to be better than the S340 Elite. Power Supply: I just want something that doesn't explode and is fully modular. SeaSonic has been around for a long time. So they probably know how to not make things explode. Monitor: I just want 1080p@60hz, IPS and has built in speakers. This one fits my description, and actually looks kinda good. Keyboard: The Logitech K840 is actually what I originally wanted. It's a simple mechanical keyboard, but the Redragon is cheaper. I don't like the K552 Non-RGB due to the red font. So I'm choosing the other one. Mouse: I want the Keyboard and Mouse to be a pair. So I'm choosing a mouse from the same brand. Note: I know that a 1080 Ti is wasted on a 1080p screen. But I'm going for something like having a V6 Camry. You have a simple elegant car and a powerful engine that you probably won't get to utilize very often.

I came across a situation that I do not understand so I thought I would ask here to see if anyone can help me out. We built a PC with the specs below as a workstation PC:System 1 - CPU: i7-8700 (stock cooler)MB: ASRock Z370 Pro4RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4X8GB DDR4 2400GPU: GTX 1060 6GBDrive: WD Black 256GB M.2Case: Corsair Carbide 200RPS: EVGA 500WI was watching the temps using HWINFO and noticed that even under medium use I was seeing thermal throttling. With just a few applications open, the temps were around 30 deg C. If I ran a Prime95 test, it would take about 1 minute and the CPU was at 95 deg C or more and thermal throttling. Good airflow was a thought I had as to why we were having the issue. There is only a 120MM fan in the front and a 120MM in the rear. I added two more 120MM on the top, but that didn't change much. When we needed to build another system I did some research and decided a different case was in order as I wanted to improve airflow, but also get a case with better dust filtration. The specs for this system are listed below.System 2CPU: i7-8700 (Cryorig H7 - thermal compound applied in a line)MB: Gigabyte H370M D3HRAM: Corsair Vengence LPX 2X16GB DDR4 2400GPU: Quadro P1000Drive: WD Black 256GB M.2Case: Fractal Design MicroATX Define Mini CPS: Corsair TX550MI also bought an extra 140MM fan so the setup is a 140MM and a 120MM in the front, a 120MM in the back, and nothing in the top. After building this system out I tested thermals and was quite pleased. Temps were around 30 deg C with a few applications open. The difference was under Prime95 I was seeing a max temp of 58-60 deg C even after 10 minutes of solid running. I was quite pleased and thought it was due to the Cryorig H7 so I purchased another one and installed that on the first system, and also applied thermal compound in a line. I was rather shocked to find that temps just climbed right past 60 and after about 7 to 8 minutes I was up at 95 deg C and thermal throttling again. So much better, but still not the same. Now I was really baffled so I dug into the differences.System 1 got a 1392 Cinebech R15 score. System 2 got a 1301 Cinebech R15 score.System 1 max voltage is 1.445 and max clock of 4.6 GHz. System 2 max voltage is 1.269 and max clock of 4.3 GHz.I went back and looked at the motherboard specs as that is the main difference that matters (in my mind) between the two systems. I cannot see any major difference between the two. I know the Z370 has overclocking ability but with a non-k cpu I didn't figure that would matter. My main question here is how would I have known up before purchasing that I would not be hitting the full 4.6 GHz with the H370M D3H motherboard? Is there a way to change this? Any other recommendations for going forward?

I have a i7-8700 cpu on a Asus ROG Strix H370-i itx motherboard. The cpu is cooled using a Master Cooler AIO liquid cooler. No matter what I do the cpu only goes up to 4.3 GHz instead on the advertised 4.6 GHz. Can someone explain if this is normal and if so, how do I see that it does in fact go to 4.6. Thank you for your time.
