  1. So as by the title I'm wondering if 28C is kinda a high temp for an i7-7700K? My setup is as follows: Thermaltake S500 new case- has no a solid metal front and solid metal top with side vents ( I am aware this may be hampering the temps, just want confirmation) 2 - 200mm thermaltake luna 20 fans as intake in front of case 2 - 200mm thermaltake luna 20 fans as exhaust on top of case 1 -120mm thermaltake case fan as rear exhaust 1 -thermaltake 280 Riing water cooler extreme 3.0 ( 2 x 140mm riing thermaltake ) fans set in push configuration under the larger 200mm fans in the top of the case Main reason for asking as that when trying to enable OC / XMP profiling on my asus z270 mark 1 motherboard I get a failure and machine restarts and boots under safe mode which forces me to bring it back down to 4.5. can not exceed this clock speed and ram will not exceed 2133 even though it is 3200 Ripjaws by GSKill. Also getting around 48-50C under full load in Cinebench 20/23 or running Heavyload CPU stressor or Prime95 . Any help pinning down these issues to either help improve my cooling and speed would be appreciated as I use this machine daily and really would like to continue to run it optimally. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ System Specs: Board: ASUS Z270 Mark 1 TUF Board CPU: i7-7700K @ 4.5 Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR4 @ 2133 (as I can't increase it) Storage: 1TB NVME wd black Graphics: ASUS Nvidia 1070TI Power : 850 Thermaltake PSU
  2. So I recently upgraded my cpu from a i3-6100 to a i7-7700k on my B150M-A D3 motherboard. I upgraded to the latest version of the BIOS and bought some DDR3L 1.35V ram (because it’s the only compatible RAM with my cpu and motherboard) so everything should technically be okay. But the problem is that every time I open my computer, my disk goes up to 100% in my task bar (cpu is also really irregular, it can jump from 5% to 45% back and forth) and does this for about 10 minutes but goes down when I’m not doing anything. The other big problem is that when I’m doing something demanding, like playing certain types of video games, my cpu and disk goes up to 100% in my task bar and, for example, my video games will lag super hard while having something like 4-5 FPS which isn’t normal at all because with my old cpu everything was super good. I reinstalled multiple times my GPU drivers and in some games like Overwatch, For Honor, League of Legends everything is going okay. My cpu goes up to 45% while playing those games(which is unusual compared to my old cpu but is still working, I guess). But in other video games it’s really chaotic, like mentioned before. My cpu average temperature is around 40-45 degrees (Celsius). I recently installed my cooler and thermal paste so I don’t think it’s the problem. Also my cpu is running at his normal clock speed(not overclocked) at 4.2 Ghz Last thing, I recently noticed that ,sometimes, my computer turns off and restarts out of nowhere by itself. I ran multiple antivirus and there’s nothing, in this area as well. •What should I do now?? I tried everything that have been said online and nothing changed. Any tips? Which BIOS setting should I apply to make a difference to my current situation ? Do I need to do a new Windows install, will it work if I do it?? And also if I put my old cpu back, is it going to stay like that or will it go back to normal? Specs: I7-7700k Cooler master hyper 212 B150M-A D3 motherboard Gagabyte gtx 1050ti 16GB SP DDR3L 1.35V HDD 1TB (My disk is half way full, like 450 Gb full) EVGA 500w bronze power supply
  3. I am trying to overclock my i7-7700k. System specs: CPU: i7-7700k @ 4.20 GHz (Turbo boost: 4.5GHz) [delidded] Mobo: Asus Maximus IX Extreme GPU: Gigabyte - GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition 11G RAM: 32GB - G.Skill - Trident Z RGB - DDR4 3600Mhz - 32GB (8GBx4) - 16-16-16-36 PSU: Seasonic - PRIME 850 W Titanium Custom Cooling system: Radiator: x2 radiator (520x30x60mm) Radiator FAN: x8 Noctua (120x120x15mm) Pump: EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 At the moment these appear to be the two stable configurations: 4.9GHz Config CPU ratio: x49 Vcore in BIOS: 1.375 V Vcore mode: manual XMP profile: enable (DDR4 - 3600MHz) CPU integrated GPU (iGPU): Enabled LLC: 5 AVX offset: x0 Windows 10 power management: High performance Vcore idle (HWiNFO64): 1.376 V Vcore Stress (HWiNFO64): 1.366 V Vcore idle (measured*): 1.384 V Vcore stress (measured*): 1.371 V OCCT stress temperature (AVX2): 74 °C 5.0GHz Config CPU ratio: x50 Vcore in BIOS: 1.405 V Vcore mode: manual XMP profile: disabled Integrated GPU (iGPU): disabled LLC: 5 AVX offset: x0 Windows 10 power management: High performance Vcore idle (HWiNFO64): 1.408 V Vcore Stress (HWiNFO64): 1.398 V Vcore idle (measured*): 1.414 V Vcore stress (measured*): 1.402 V OCCT stress temperature (AVX2): 66 °C *FLUKE 179 multimeter using the average function and measuring for 1 minute With the 5GHz configuration if I enable the XMP profile or the iGPU I do not pass the OCCT test or the system crashes with a blue screen, at 5.1GHz the CPU is always unstable (regardless of XMP profile or iGPU). Now I'm trying to set a different ratio for each core, in particular I'm trying this configuration: CPU core 0 ratio: x51 CPU core 1 ratio: x50 CPU core 2 ratio: x50 CPU core 3 ratio: x50 Vcore in BIOS: 1.405 V Vcore mode: manual XMP profile: disabled CPU integrated GPU (iGPU): disabled LLC: 5 AVX offset: x0 Windows 10 power management: High performance With this configuration I passed a one hour OCCT (AVX2) test without any problems, but I noticed something odd with the clock reported by HWiNFO64. When the system is in idle I have noticed that the core clocks keep jumping between 5.0GHz and 5.1GHz, sometimes all are at 5.1GHz, other times all are at 5.0GHz, and some time some are at 5.0GHz and others at 5.1GHz. Then when I started a stress test (OCCT - AVX2) all cores were always at 5.0GHz, they didn't touch 5.1GHz even for a moment. Can anyone explain to me what is happening? I would have expected core 0 to be fixed at 5.1GHz and all others at 5.0GHz, why the clocks keep jumping between 5.0GHz and 5.1GHz? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.
  4. Specs: CPU: i7-7700k @ 4.20 GHz (Turbo boost: 4.5GHz) [delidded] Mobo: Asus Maximus IX Extreme GPU: Gigabyte - GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition 11G RAM: 32GB - G.Skill - Trident Z RGB - DDR4 3600Mhz - 32GB (8GBx4) - 16-16-16-36 PSU: Seasonic - PRIME 850 W Titanium Custom Cooling system: Radiator: x2 radiator (520x30x60mm) Radiator FAN: x8 Noctua (120x120x15mm) Pump: EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 I built my PC 5 years ago (specs in my profile), never changed neither thermal paste nor cooling liquid since then, temperatures rarely exceeded 50C (while gaming). Now I feel the need to overclock my system, to improve performance in some games (specifically Valorant, which is particularly demanding with the CPU). I did some tests at 5.0GHz and this is the best overclocking setup I have found so far: CPU ratio: x50 Cache ratio: x42 Vcore in BIOS: 1.415V Vcore mode: Manual XMP profile: Disabled iGPU: Disabled LLC: 5 AVX offset: x0 Vcore under stress (measured*): 1.411 V *FLUKE 179 multimeter using the average function and measuring for 1 minute With this configuration after 17 hours of stress test with Prime95 (Blend mode) I got an error (Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4) on core 1. Now I'm running another Prime95 session with the Vcore at 1.420v Once I find the stable vcore, I would like to switch to adaptive mode (and playing with the offset) to reduce CPU stress and increase CPU life expectancy. What do you think? is it a good idea to use adaptive mode instead of manual mode? In any case after 5 years I think it is time to change the thermal paste, coolant and thermal pads (although the temperatures are still good). I would like to use liquid metal instead of thermal paste for the CPU, but I cannot find information on the material of which the Maximum Extreme IX (bitspower) monoblock is made, I think it is nickel-plated copper, but I could not find official information about it. Can someone please tell me what material is it made of? Also where can I find the dimensions for the thermal pads (thickness, length and width)? Any suggestions are appreciated!
  5. Hello everyone! I'm trying to overclock my i7-7700K on Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3 motherboard. Every time I apply any changes in BIOS, the clocks change there and are being shown by it's monitor but when I boot into Windows, none of the monitoring programs nor the system show any changes (putting the CPU under load doesn't help too). I've tried various methods, tutorials, even the Gigabyte's overclocking guide, clearing CMOS, F7 and F9d versions of BIOS, double checked windows' power plan (is set to performance mode). Some changes show only when I change multipliers with programs such as XTU or Gigabyte EasyTune but I want to overclock it in BIOS. Also my Windows is a fresh install with all drivers updated. Would appreciate any help since everything I've tried was pointless... My specs: -mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z270-GAMING K3 -cpu: Intel Core i7-7700K -cpu cooler: SilentiumPC Fera 3 120mm -ram: G.SKILL 16GB 3000MHz Ripjaws V Red CL15 (2x8GB) -ssd: Samsung 500GB M.2 PCIe NVMe 970 EVO Plus -gpu: GIGABYTE AORUS GTX 1080 Ti XTREME Edition -psu: Corsair CX750M 750W 80 Plus Bronze -system: Win 10 Home (Build 18363.720)
  6. After many years of waiting, I have finally decided to upgrade my software development/gaming setup. It's been many years since I last built a computer, so It'll be great if I can get some feedback on this build. Budget & Location Excluding monitors, peripherals, and storage, I'm looking to spend less than $1200 USD on this build (tax included - California). While this is not a hard cap, there'll need to be some very good reasons to increase the budget. Aim The system will be a hybrid programming/gaming machine. I will be running Linux as the host OS, with Windows gaming done through GPU Passthrough to a VM. I make heavy use of virtual machines, so memory capacity is quite important. I will be using BTRFS as my primary filesystem (without ECC memory). On the programming end, my use cases focus around large memory capacity - I have need for both high single-core performance and large thread count (though not simultaneously). For gaming, I'm interested in a system that can play new games at high graphics at 1080p 60fps for at least the next 4-5 years. The games I play tend to be CPU-heavy. VR capability would be a nice plus. I don't plan on significant upgrades for 4-6 years. Monitors I'll be using two 1080p 60Hz monitors with this build, with a potential upgrade to 2K a few years down the line - nothing crazy. Plan Current Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/RandomBK/saved/PdbGXL Notes on some of the decisions: CPU: i7-7700K Already purchased at $333.24 incl. tax. I plan to OC this hopefully to 4.8Ghz on air. Probably a bit lower during hot Californian summers. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z270M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Low-priced overclockable motherboard with onboard gigabit memory and USB3 headers. Cheap, simple, and fits my needs. Memory: G.Skill Aegis 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Only using two of the 4 slots on the board for the moment - this is probably the only part I will be upgrading in the future, so I want to leave some room for expansion. GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card I'm not entirely sure which 1070 to get, but any low-priced, reliable, 8GB 1070 works for me. I will probably also try to overclock this. Does anyone have experience with the manufacturer refurbished cards on NewEgg? They're slightly cheaper, but are there any issues with them? 7. Good day to all of you guys! Im here again with some stupid questions lol I'm going to build a pc for a friend. What he wants to do with hes future pc is to do some REVIT, RENDERING, AND GAMING. he says that $2000 is hes budget and he has also a few parts in mind which are: GeForce GTX1080 for Video Card Intel i7-7700K for the processor and SSD 850 2.5" SATA III 1TB for storage now, kindly help me with the other parts. or maybe u can suggest a full build tower (the 3 parts must be in that build) thanks guys! i appreciate your help I looked at pcpartpicker but i have doubts that those builds that i saw is capable of (rendering, do some revit, and gaming) so help me guys. thanks again!

  10. introduction Behind many waters, far far away in some land...there was engineering Office. And there few smart people, put their heads together and created ROG hardware for enthusiast and overclockers:) It was more than 10 years ago. LOng time ago until last generation the "Extreme" products were focused for LN2 directly. Others ROG boards could work very well with LN2 also, but Extreme was something more. DRAM switches, PCIe switches, voltage points etc... However, this year in January was presented new series "APEX", which functionally replaces Maximus Extreme. To Maximus Extreme will include other water - literally Apex is motherboard for LN2 with all stuffs inside. Even the original design was so geeks that the motherboard did not have all audio tracks. Because for hardcore overclockers is audio useless thing. Signal interference. But afterall, the board looks like looks and has it audio part SUpremeFX. CHIPSET Let's look at the chipset itself. Intel introduced a trio of chipsets for termination field: Z270, H270 and B250. Simplifield difference is in the number of PCIe lines in southbridge and therefore other support M.2 SSDs (explained later), support for dual graphics cards AMD/Nvidia, the number of USB 3.0 / 3.1, and even according to the manufacturer's plate. But we are focused at Intel Z270 and concrete at Maximus IX Apex general characteristics of chipset Z270 memory support 2400 MHz DDR4 16x PCIe 3.0 lines in CPU extra 4 PCIe 3.0 lines in PCH compared to Z170 Dual Optane support - up to 2x M.2 SSDs NVMe/RAID 10x USB3.0 6x SATA -for APEX, eg. 4x SATA, no needed for LN2 games Note that Apex has dedicated some USB lines for special functions such as keybot. At Z270 chipset u can run two M.2 PCIe in NVME protocol mode. In H270 also (one of the discs working at the speed X2), but B250 has not (one be in mode PCIe, second must be in SATA mode). If you will to use the M.2 SATA disc, you should know that the communication part is shared with certain SATA connectors, it can always check in advance before plugging the system. Generally it can say that Z270 is a modern and enjoyable chipset, where the next 4 PCIe lines are are useful. Motherboard description in theory Although the board is equipped mainly for extreme overclocking, also has benefits for watercooling setups. These are connectors for AIO or for classic watercooling pump and flowsensor and tempsensor of IN and OUT also. Very smart solution. Water cooling is controlled with 3A fan header, AIO has "only" 1A. Connectors are useful Konektory lze použít i traditional way for PWM/DC control. The fans power plan. Now very special DDR slot. It is designed for devices that support installation of two M.2 drives. But why to inside DIMM slot? Better cooling capabilities and commonly better access to hardware components. You can also put on device RAM cooler, which then cool down M2 SSDs alone. At DIMM2 device we can see few vents, those used for air flow, which can supply CPU fan. Second slide. DIMM2 slot is on the board identical to DDR4, but still makes it different safety plug, so that even a beginner can not functionally obfuscate. Finally something about extreme OC :). Special new LEDs are a great innovation with detection of condensation! Very helpful. Condensation is the biggest enemy of extreme overclocking. This motherboard has 13 detection sensors. 3 are near the CPU and others around DIM slots, and PCIe. OC zone of motherboard include buttons start, reset, slow mode, pause, CBB switch, retry button, safe button, LN2 jumper, slot PCIe switch, jumpers for activation/deactivation DIMM slots for DRAMs. Take a look at two white 4-pins for fans, these working at full speed LN2 mode jumper = customized settings for LN2, best way enabled it between -100 až -120 C Slow mód přepínač = switch for CPU working at low C-state (in default 800 MHz), switch off and CPU clocks jump up to maximus (sets in BIOS or in TurboV software). Useful for max validations process example. Pause switch = hardwarová pause, PC is in pause/freezing mode, you can it cool down or heat up in your LN2 pot and after continue in hard load benchmark. CBB switch = no more coldbootbugs :-). Eg. Kaby Lake/Skylake has around the -130 C coldbootbug property. If your CPU got coldbootbug, seems as "dead" (00 postcode), you must heat it up. Detection points of condensation - we already know from the previous paragraph Apex board can also support 3D printing. One bracket, eg for minicoolers for DIMM2 slot AURA is everywhere, APEX is coming with lights. With jumpers you can some of the locations turned on/off or even expand on RGB strips. AURA and AURA SYNC is just what a marketing standpoint moves the world, whether one likes it or not. Despite the software it yourself tune in color, synchronization, backlight modes ... Audio Supreme FX its not only Realtek ALC1220, ALC1220 characteristic at the left and at the right is new SupremeFX, sound signal is more clear. Interesting software, which is bundled on the DVD, however, works only with KabyLake on another PC I failed to install (Maximus VIII Hero). The board can be equipped with individual charm, make your own logo. Motherboard description and accessories On the back of the box are then specification and label themselves boards Apex Open the box with ROG logo inside Accessories: set of ROG stickers small ROG stickers eg. at SATA cables 4x SATA cabels RGB extender IO cover Q connector DVD with drivers Manual discount coupon for the sleeve cables of PSU ROG coaster DIMM2 device for M.2 discs M.2 screws ROG HB SLI bridge Installation pad for processor strip for custom logo backlight The motherboard has an atypical design, where individual corners "stretched" and linking the corners of an imaginary forms the letter "X". It stands for "eXtreme". The basic layout of ATX24 pin connector and 2 x 8 pin connectors are at traditional locations. It is well-marked, which osmipin that is primary and the other is only for LN2. Board dimensions correspond with ATX format, but you will certainly be taken aback that the board has only two slots for memory. Why? Because of the extreme overclocking always achieve better results with less crosstalk, and there's two more than 4 :-). I would say that there are about a millimeter closer to the CPU socket than usual. Even so this board can reach one of the few above 4000 MHz DDR4. Upper right corner belongs to the OC zone. Bottom left corner, then audio. Bottom right corner occupies classic case connectivity while the zone for water sensors and RGB. On the motherboard also find three reinforced PCIe slots for video cards. Fourth bottom is connected electrically with the south bridge (PCH). The actual distribution lines for the graphics card is either: 1x 16 PCIe 3.0 (first slot) 2x 8 PCIe 3.0 (first + third slot) 1x 8 + 2x 4 PCIe 3.0 (first+seocnd+third slot) For PCH are shorter two PCIe 1x 3.0, ex for audio card or avermedia card. Look at the M.2 DIMM card. Put this card inside the DIMM2 slot, the slot is near the DDR4 slots. Electrically connected to the south bridge and the equipment itself can place a pair of M.2 NVMe SSDs. Three RAMs? Not, only 2x GSkill TridentZ and DIMM2 device. Few details of motherboard OC zone, where we find the start button, reset, display post, retry and safe button, special LN2 switches, white 4-pins for RGB LED strips, switches of PCIe slots, DRAM jumper and power VRM of memory circuit. Passive coolers are relatively low, mounting screws only from the top, which is an excellent idea, especially for extreme overclockers. At the upper edge of the board are also connectors for fans, controlled PWM/DC itself according to the connected fan. Here we can see a quartet of SATA ports, OC crazy guys dont need much of it. Furthermore, the front USB3.0 port, and extra power for PCIe (Molex). I circled section of jumpers to activate/deactivate some parts of AURA RGB lights. Also white connectors for temperature and fluid flow in wattercooling systems. The lower part contains from left to right: front audio connector, the second RGB header, TPM port, a pair of USB 2.0 ports for connections, ROG connector I / II connector for OC Panel, fans 4-pins and BIOS switch. Motherboard has two BIOSes. This corner contains SupremeFX audio with the FX1220. Generally it contains a chip ALC1220A, extra system of amplifiers and Japanese audio capacitors. PCB is obviously separated, due to low interference. Note also the main control chip ICs from Nuvoton (opposite the second PCIe x16 slot). On this section are some chips for USB3.1 and HDMI. And then encapsulated chip LANguard, protecting against surges the LAN port. IO outputs are solid. We can find a pair of PS2 ports, which is useful to extreme overclockers. Before them is still button for BIOS Flashback feature (below) and CMOS BIOS button (top button). Following DisplayPort and HDMI, 6x USB3.0, LAN, USB3.1 A + C, audio jacks. Digital power of motherboard, VRMs Motherboard for overclocking is definitely created at a solid level. Let's look at the VRM complex of motherboard. I highlighted in red power circuit for processor cores nad iGPU part. This CPU part has 8 digital controlled phases, without any dividers. Exactly its 8 + 2 (CPU+iGPU). Full digitally controlled, high precision using an IR chip. VR chip is framed in red (small frame). CPU has another part called IO and SA. The power circuit is located under the logo of the Republic of Gamers, I've highlighted orange rectangle. It has two separate voltage controllers (red small squares), one for IO and the second for SA. Power circuit for memory has separate, well-controlled digitally also. It is a two phases-and called it in blue color. The main part of the power circuit for CPU cores is probably the most important. MOSFETs are encapsulated (sorry for my english, how to say it-integrated mosfet+drivers) and the manufacturer is Texas Instruments, named CSD87350Q5Ds. You can dismiss an insane value - current up to 400A! The OC is indeed not limited And despite somewhat worse useful practice properties, if necessary MOSFETs are heated to 60 C. BIOS main menu Extreme Tweaker profiles RAM settings Extreme Paradise Advanced settings for SATA and M2 storages or ROG LEDs BOOT section Tools SOFTWARE The board includes the entire package Software. Perhaps most interesting is AI Suite III with many functions. It will offer auto-tuning your PC in the performance, power, cooling, management of energy savings. And most it really works! The interesting part called "turbo applications" which assigns your PC for specific tasks that you have defined frequency turbo processor. Sonic Radar for gamers. Personally for me is more practice Sonic Studio ROG Ramcache, ROG RAM Disk and new one ROG CLone Drive And AURA software RGB effects -AURA Board has literally brutal backlight option, via jumpers certain parts can be deactivated. For example, it glowing logo "Flank3r" or "Republic of Gamers". Maybe next time the test frequency RAM influence on performance. The results were summarized in the table. In advance I can tell you that the CPU did not disappoint and again I got to the 5 GHz stable. OVERCLOCKING For overclocking I chose a stability test AIDA 64 Engineer, running about 30 minutes in stress mode (AVX ready). I was pleased that retail is still a bit better than ES sample. At 5 GHz sufficed only 1.31V in the BIOS with LLC5. But AIO setup and cooling temperatures are peaked above 80 degrees. CPU Kaby Lake is hotter than Skylake. If you are not going to delid it, I see a border around 1.35-1.375 V for vcore as the limit for long-term operation. With delid you can go on further 0.05V, perhaps even a 0.1V up. Ideally keep the temperatures in the load stress test up to 90 C at cores (or better, of course, even less). Cache was OCed together, at 4700 MHz! Good things at APEX for Kaby Lake Table of safe voltage ranges when the conditions cooling according to Asus. Each piece of CPU warms slightly differently, everything is good simply adjust temperatures. Protecting CPU is at 100 C. Post display codes, ideal for LN2... Overclocking for benchmarks only I tried then the maximum frequency for the benchmarks. First problem was the temperature, I could not CPU cool down in harder tests more than at 1.425V. This corresponds to the frequency of 4150 MHz. Maybe the CPU with a little hard work could work at 5200 MHz, but certainly not beyond, delid will be necessary ... Cinebench R11.5 at 5152 MHz Cinebench R15 at 5152 MHz Blender "Ryzen" benchmark with 150 samples Less stress test as legacy old Superpi means I can use more voltages, 5450 MHz and Superpi 1M CPU worked at longer Superpi 32M at 5450 MHz also! I tried twice the frequency 5506 MHz for 1M, but in both cases the PC frozed I have only a photo... Overclocking of Kaby Lake is really fun, it's fast, has a very strong IPC and manages itself very high frequency. CONCLUSION Like the boys at the photo from the world scene of extreme overlcocking, and I give a thumbs up :clap: The board is grandiose and not only because it was the first board at which seamlessly working RAM at 4000 MHz XMP profile (with noedit operating system), that has a PS2 ports, button for eliminating coldbootbug and all OC zone part, interesting DIMM.2 slot NVMe SSD in RAID, the possibility of mounting passives with mounting screws from above and further details: clap:: thumbup: And it will be a good figure in an enthusiastic system build. Later, other comments complementing the other results during the weeks. In the granary got yet another piece i7-7700K and a third on the way. We'll see which one is really the best
  11. Hey, First of all I apologize because I'm not a PC wizard and don't know much about the CPU temps. This is my first PC build, hence I'd need some advice. I'm struggling because my i7-7700K temps seem a bit high even though I have a decent cooling (NZXT Kraken X62 AIO). I understood that the Kaby Lake flagship runs a bit hotter than previous Intel chips because of the higher clocks (4.2GHz w/ 4.5GHz boost). My 7700K is at stock clocks, no overclocking done. I'd be tempted to try it out but the seemingly high stock temps keep me from doing it. I had to replace the NZXT Kraken X62 stock thermal paste because I had to take the cooler off at one point. I changed the paste to a Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut, which had pretty good reviews. I hope I did it right, I used something between a pea and a line method to apply the paste. So basically I should have a very good cooling and paste combo for my CPU now and expected to get good temps as well. However the idle temps sit around 30-35C now. I could have sworn my idle temps were around 25C for that short time I had the stock paste of NZXT kraken x62. It seems to me that many have idle temps around 25C as well. Am I doing something wrong or is this really normal? I also get spikes of over 70C while playing (Civilization VI), just spikes, not constant temps. I don't know if such spikes are normal. I haven't measured my average temps while gaming. On below you can find some stats. Please let me know if I'm missing something. CPU Temps: Idle: 30-35C Cinebench: ~ 64C Intel Extreme Tuning Utility CPU Test (100% Stress, 15min): Temp Range: ~50-70C, going up and down fast during the test Peaks: | #0 - 71C | #1 - 69C | #2 - 71C | #3 - 72C | package 72C Things you should know: Cooling: CPU: NZXT Kraken X62 (100% Pump, 50% Fans), on top for exhaust Case: 3x 120mm intake in front (speed 40%), 1x 140mm exhaust (speed 40%) on the back Other: Case: NZXT H440 (2015 edition), not the most ideal for air flow but shouldn't matter that much Thermal Paste: Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB (XMP enabled, 3200MHz, CL14, 1.2V) GPU: KFA2 GTX 1070 (HOF Edition) Room temperature: ~23C Thank you so much in advance to anyone who bothers to help me. ❤ EDIT: http://imgur.com/a/zPGmR a screenshot during the stress test
  12. So i did a build with the new i7-7700k. The motherboard has a (4+4) 8pin connector on the motherboard combined with a separate 4 pin connector for the cpu. I've only connect the 4+4 pin and not the separate one. Can this lead to any problems in the future? Atm everything is running pretty solid, except for the temperatures of the cpu. It is only acting up when i run csgo, idle temps are between 25°c - 30°c. When running csgo it's around 70°c.
  13. Hello everyone, : ) I've been using the same old PC for the past 9 years and so far I did not had to do anything more than maintenance every now and than.. Its been running a Quad CPU (Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz) overclocked at 3.5 since day 1 (Air cooled, temps in the 37Idle-58Load range) with 8 GB of DDR2 and a GTX 260 from Gainward, everything on Asus P5E-Deluxe... nothing special so far. But with the increase demand from applications and games I felt the urge to start something new.. something "solid". Something that can offer both great gaming and raw power when I'm rendering one of my videos in Vegas Pro, edit a photo in Photoshop, Lightroom or make a funny intro in After Effect or just play "techy" with 8 or more VM's open at the same time simply because my curiosity never stops to push me even further I decided to open this topic here in the hope that you will be able to help me take the right decisions in what is to become my PC for the next years. 14. Hi guys! I would like to build a PC. It's kinda hard to decide what to build, since i don't have enough money to build like a $1,500 PC. I've seen some budget build on youtube just around $400-$550. Those seems to be pretty good, but not as good as something I could build. I mean I could build it but I don't have the $$$ to buy it at once. I was thinking to buy a few parts of a high end pc and later on buy the rest of it. Well it might be a good idea but i'm not really sure if i should even bother with it and actually make it or not because of the price differences between each part is ridicilous. I was also thinking to build a somewhat power efficient build like this: -Intel Pentium g4560 -gtx 1050 ti -MSI B250M PRO-VDH -2x4gb 2400mhz kingston ram -be quiet bn267 power supply -zalman z1 neo -samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd -1TB WD blue hdd Now i could buy this setup without any problem even now. It's a pretty good build. For now i don't even have a 1080p monitor, just a 720p. So for my 720p monitor this is an amazing build and i could add + 2x4gb ram later on. There is are probably upgradeability path for this machine with an i5 or i7 non-K cpu + rx 480 or maybe a gtx 1070 or at least 1060(but i would rather not buy the 1060). And that's it, a fairly good performing pc and life is good. I could even add some RGB led lights into the case or more hdd/ssd. Well the other build that i would like to build does costs more. I could possibly save some money by buying less expensive components. For example i would like to get an Z270 motherboard with a I7-7700K cpu. But there is a lot to chose from. For example ASUS has a dozen of this motherboard. They cost differently because of the features they have. I would go with asus rog strix z270e gaming motherboard maximum. But there are also cheaper choices like the Gigabyte ga-z270-gaming k3 motherboard that has everything that i might need. Just it doesn't support SLI, it only supports crossfire. But then ther is the gigabyte ga-z270x-ultra gaming motherboard that supports sli but it costs like $40 more. Also, why would I choose an i7? I know that the i5 is enough for gaming, i could just go with an i5-7600k, but i would rather have those extra threads for smoother gameplay. I know an i5 would be just fine enough, but the problem is that te i5-7600k costs almost $300 in my country it's too much for that cpu. The i7-7700k costs like $405. Which isn't that bad considering it costs like $350 in general. Well here is the build that i would do maximum: -Intel I7-7700k -ASUS STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING -ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING -2x8gb Kingston savage 3000mhz ram. -be quiet! Pure Power 9 700W (BN269) -Corsair Spec-01 Case -Samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd -2tb of WD blue hdd OR Seagate BarraCuda 2TB -Cooler Master Hyper 212x cpu fan cooler OR Corsair H80i V2 liquid cooler. Now this is a really great build. I could add + 2x8gb of kingston 3000mhz ram + another GTX 1070 and more storage + even more RGB lighting and such. The psu should be able to hold everything(at least i hope it's enough). Well as you can see this is a really good build, but a little bit expensive. Like i said before, I could get some cheaper components. For example i could switch the motherboard with an gigabyte ga-z270x-ultra gaming. Or i could get a cheaper gtx 1070 like the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Edition and i could cheap out on the cpu cooler with the cooler master hyper 212x, since it costs less than the h80i v2. These are all and nice specs. But wait! What aboud Ryzen? Well since it has not come out yet, since we don't know the exact price, the exact performance compared to intel's cpu, i don't know. I really don't know. You know it might be performing better. Just a little bit. Maybe you can see a difference in benchmarks. But in real world performance? Nah, not really. At least not as much as it would be nessecarry to game or to do everyday tasks. I mean i get it that it should come out soon. Or maybe not as soon as i think. But still, i don't think it should be recommended until it's released and tested against intel's products. Well with that out of the way i would like to actually build the pc. But i can't buy everything together. I was thinking, what if i buy now a few parts now and later the others. Oh and like i said before i have a 720p monitor at the moment, but i would also like to buy one next christmas or black friday. One that's either 1080p or 1440p. But i will look into monitors later. So this is what i would build for now: CPU - Intel g4560 GPU - gtx 1050 Ti Motherboard - ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING OR gigabyte ga-270x-ultra gaming(because i could save some money with this gigabyte motherboard) Ram - 1x8gb ddr4 3000mhz kingston savage ram PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 9 700W (BN269) Case - Corsair Spec-01 Case SSD - Samsung 850 evo 250gb HDD- NOTE: I already have one WD blue 500gb HDD, so i could buy HDD later on an save money for now. Cooler - Well, for this setup the stock cooler that comes with the g4560 is enough. And later on i could swtich the cpu for the i7-7700k and the gpu to a GTX 1070. I could also add another 8gb stick without waiting for christmas. And i could add +2x8gb later on. Well like i said i could even buy the ASUS motherboard, but if i buy the gigabyte ga-270x-ultra gaming then i can save like $87. Yes i know the asus board costs ALOT. It's like $245 in my country.. Well i could either buy the hyper 212x to save some money or go with the liquid cooler later on, which would be nice. So for the last note. Don't ask me what is my budget, because i don't really want to convert my country's currency to dollar in each of the parts. It's just so different from the US prices. I could get that build, i just gotta wait for christmas to save up some money and hopefully i could get some sweet discounts at christmas or black friday What do you guys think? I could get this last build, where i just get the basics of the build and add the rest later the next month when i get my salary Or i could get the first build after i recieve my January salary and like i said before, i could add later on a non-k cpu + an rx 480 maybe. Well it's really hard to choose. Because if i go with the last build then i gotta choose between the ASUS or gigabyte motherboard. They both are cool. They both have rgb lighting. I like them both. The asus motherboard have some extra features, which is nice, But it costs SOOO much It's not a problem, i could buy it with the rest of the build, just that i could save some money with the gigabyte. Final notes: I live in Hungary if you are wondering and English is not my Native language, so pls be nice. And i hope you understand what i was saying
  15. I've been planning this computer for a while. I haven't built a new computer in over 10 years. I just wanted to see what the LTTC thinks of the parts list I put together. Any changes anyone thinks I should make? 16. Hey guys! I would like to know which CPU is better to buy, the i7-7700K or the Ryzen 7 1800X? I know that Ryzen would be the obvious choice, but it is still a newly released piece of hardware, meaning it could be unstable or buggy (lots of BIOS updates for AM4 motherboards are still being released by motherboard manufacturers for system stability). I'm taking into consideration the CPU's stability and price vs. performance ratio. I've also bought some DDR4 RAM before Ryzen was released, it's a Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 (http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/blt2k8g4d30aeta). I will use this RAM kit in my next system. I did some research on RAM compatibility and saw that Ryzen CPUs are having problems with DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3400 RAM. I'm still bugged on which CPU to get, the i7-7700K for stability and compatibility or the Ryzen 7 1800X for more power, in exchange for system stability and RAM compatibility?
  17. Hi everyone i am making a list of items to upgrade my computer with as my current haswell setup is sufficient to say the least but not optimal for performance, however i don't know what CPU cooler i should be going with for my i7-7700k i'm planning to buy. i've already chosen my Motherboard and RAM MB: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Z170X-Gaming-LGA1151-DDR4/dp/B013E37HCI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492610230&sr=8-2&keywords=GA-Z170X-Gaming%2BG1&th=1 RAM: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMK16GX4M2A2400C16-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B016BWEQYG/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1492607992&sr=1-1&keywords=corsair%2Bvengeance%2Bddr4%2B2400mhz&th=1 is there any GOOD cpu cooler i can get for roughly £30? ( roughly 40$ on current exchange rates) i must add a note i don't want any water cooling as i've already planned out a lot of money on my tight budget for this as you may probably be able to understand. so a good quality heatsink for my future LGA 1151 socket would be preferable please i will also be planning to orientate my Heatsink so it blows out the top of my case to go with the airflow of my case (check my profile for my current rig setup) many thanks: Harry (TheONLYHamster)
  18. The title says it all. I'm looking for an upgrade from my 8350, and I'm going into game development. I plan to use Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and the Cry Engine. As of now, I'm looking at a few. Mainly the 1700x or the i7-7700k. I wouldn't be opposed to paying extra for a 1800x, but much more is too expensive. I was wondering what anyone would recommend, and thanks for the help.
  19. Hello. I am assembling a new rig and just recently purchased a Cooler Master 212 Evo heatsink. I also purchased a Cooler Master blade master 120mm fan to put on the heatsink alongside the stock fan for a push/pull configuration. I was wondering if this cooling solution would be sufficient in cooling an i7-7700K that is running at its stock clock speed? P.S. I am also running a GeForce GTX 1070 and mainly play games like Dota 2 and various indie titles. Thank you for the help!
  20. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and even to the world of hardware. I compared here (Intel's official site), 3 different processors: i7-7800X - i7-7820X - i7-7700K. In the specs I found that 7700 has less cores but that runs faster (?), I mean the base processor frequency is way higher than the other two, and even the max turbo frequency is higher. More cores makes it faster, and it's ok, the other two even support more ram, and yeah, more frequency doesn't mean better, but then, what's the best processor (probably 7820, but why?) (I work with 3D) Thanks
  21. I'm making a new build for gaming and game development. Right now i'm looking into the i7-7700k or the r7 1700. The r7 1700 seemes better for game development, and can be overclocked to get similar performance to a 1700x or 1800x. While the i7-7700k gets better gaming preformance. I was wondering which one everyone would reccomend, and thanks for the help.
  22. I want to upgrade my current build, I have an nVidia 1070, an SSD, a 2TB HDD, Power supply, and a Disk drive. So I would like to upgrade (buy) a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and CPU liquid cooler. My entire build revolves around what CPU I get and I have looked at so many benchmarks and videos and still can't decide between the Ryzen 7 1700X or the Intel i7-7700K any help would be appreciated. I am using the PC mainly for gaming, but I will on occasion mess around with FL Studio and my Midi Keyboard.
  23. I'm building a new PC in the upcoming days with these specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ft8W7h Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor Corsair H115i 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Asus MAXIMUS IX HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Intel 600p Series 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power How far can I overclock this cpu with this cooler? and how good is the cooler in keeping the temps under 70 under full load? Side question: Since I need this build to serve me for at least 5 years, do you recommend me to overclock it from day one? If you have any advice or recommendation, please let me know Thanks
  24. I'm looking to upgrading from my fx-8350. I'm looking into the i5-7600k, and the i7-7700k. I'll mainly do gaming, but I will do some light game development. My main concern is if the i5-7600k will bottleneck my 1080ti. If someone could help me out with picking the right one that would be great, thanks for the help.
  25. Windows 10 64-bit i5-6500 (Upgrading to 7700k) Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI G.Skill Ripjaws 2x8GB WD Blue 1TB HDD BIOS is before Kaby Lake support Post code: 1 short beep, followed by another 5 short beeps Alright, I finally got my i7-7700k, and I was going to install it. So I pluck it in, and it wont POST. Then I remembered I needed to update my BIOS, so I pluck in my i5-6500 to Q-Flash, but before I get the chance, my friends, POST codes come up. The codes are 1 short beep, followed by another 5 short beeps. At this point I ripped everything out of the case, and I don't know what to do.
