  1. I have the i7-4790k and MSI z97 gaming 5(bios updated) The system freezes when igpu driver is installed on windows 10 64bit (windows update/MSI website/intel DSA Tool) Using a 1TB WD Blue HDD and Corsair vengeance 1600mhz 2x8gb Tried with different HDD, different set of ram sticks and different PSU also cpu temps are also good all hardware seems to be fine system works fine with Microsoft basic display adapter But won’t pass audio via HDMI Won’t let me change resolution to 1440p or 4k No option for custom aspect ratio to adjust the top, bottom, left and right if the screen Any idea how to fix it?
  2. CPU - i7-4790k Hoping someone can help me. Out of nowhere my CPU started running at very high temperatures, between 90 and 100 degrees. I did a general clean of the inside of it and it went down to around 75-80 but went back up to 90-100 after an hour or two. I have a H100i water cooler which I cleaned today for the first time. I took off the fans to clean them, and cleaned the radiator which admittidely was very dirty. When I rebooted my PC the temps were down to the 60's so I thought all was well until I tried to play CSGO, where I was getting a very variable rate of 20 to 80 FPS. I tried to play CSGO prior to the clean when at 90-100 degrees and my FPS was more stable, around 150-200. I checked task manager whilst playing CSGO after the clean and I noticed the CPU speed was all over the place barely reaching 1GHz, utilization was very low as well. I have no idea what to do to fix it so any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.
  3. It was about 2 Years ago that my Computer got unusually hot during Summer, during intense gaming settions my CPU started hitting upto 80-90°C. Which was very freightening to me since it normally never got any hotter then about 50-60°C (and i have my CPU since mid 2014). So i started looking deeper into my BIOS settings and getting back into overclocking... I noticed that although i had never changed anything in the Voltage department, my CPU core Voltage was hitting up to 1.44V, on the (Auto) setting! Also its just exceding its Powertarged (sometimes up to 150w) although it is set at 88wTDP Looking at forum Post of other 4790k users their auto Voltages usually would be around 1.15V so MUCH lower. After reading some more and watching some Overclocking guides I figured since my Mainboard didnt really seem to know what it was doing i would just set all my important Bios settings manually (Like Vcore, RingV ect). Lowering it to 1.25Vcore and 1.12 RingV has basicly been stable for the last two years and even granted me a bit of an overclock to 4.5Ghz. Now after two years i m still woundering what causes my Mainboard to set the Auto Voltage to 1.44V tho... I am just a bit worried that i might damage the Cpu by having it run at 1.25V all the time (for some reason the Voltage Offsetoptions are greyed out) and want to adjust the Voltage so it can relax a bit when its not under load... So i tried flashing a new BIOs onto my Mainboard, version F7 to be exact (the newer ones only seem to adress Gen5 Cpus), but that didnt change anything... Anyone have ideas whats going on or what i might want to change in my Bios? PC specs: CPU: i7-4790k cooled with a Noctua NH-D15 MB: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H (rev1.0) RAM: 24gb 1600mhz (2*8gb, 2*4gb, i know i m weird) GPU: GTX 1080 Palit PSU: BeQuiet Dark Power 11 750w For the Screenshot below i just set my Vcore back to auto and hit run on cinebench for 5 Secs...
  4. I recently acquired an older gaming PC from a friend of mine. From what I know, it is possible that the CPU was overheating for a while due to a faulty AIO, though I have no way of knowing this for sure. The PC has a boot loop problem when turning on. Nothing appears on the screen after pressing the power button. The lights will turn on and the fans will start up for a couple seconds, then turn off and back on again. The computer will do this for a seemingly random amount of time until it will make it past the boot loop issue. From then on, as long as the computer remains on, there are no problems. I have tested a new power supply, ram, and motherboard so I am fairly confident that it is in fact the CPU (I have been testing with a hyper 212 evo since I am unsure of the AIO). I guess what i'm wondering is if there is anything I can do to possible fix this issue and if there is any easy way for me to test the AIO. An suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Computer Specs: I7-4790k Asetek 550LC 120mm (Hyper 212 Evo during testing) Gigabyte Z97-D3H ADATA XPG 16 GB kit Corsair CX600M
  5. Okay, Hello! I bought this i7-4790k off Ebay a while ago. (Yes I know, used components are scary.) However, it works alright -- except, if it goes into turbo, or anything over 4Ghz exactly, my entire computer will lock up after a bit and I have no choice but to hard-power it down. And this even happens sometimes (rarely) when it isn't going past 4Ghz. I was trying to play RE3 Remake and it freezes up my PC after about 15-20 minutes, the temperatures aren't anything absurd so I know it's not overheating. They're around ~50c - ~60c while playing a game and idle around ~32c-38c. I have no idea what this problem is, but I bought the processor with the intention of OCing it, and I can't do that at all. So I'm stuck with this stock i7-4790k that hates working sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions what could be wrong? I haven't messed around with voltage or anything like that yet. It's all stock and default. My mobo is the MSI Z87-GD65. Hopefully someone can help, if not I'm just gonna have to move over to a new AMD CPU when I get some money, since this processor has been giving me a headache. Also, I have the Hyper 212 EVO for my cooler, and I have a 700w PSU so I doubt it's that either. I never had any of these problems until I upgraded from my i5-4690 to the i7-4790k. I did fully reinstall windows after installing the new CPU as well, and yes, BIOS are up-to-date. Hopefully someone can help, thanks guys. Maybe it's just a faulty CPU. -- Oh also, it's paired with a XFX Radeon 5700 XT, in case that's relevant.
  6. Good evening/morning folks. I've been an avid watcher of the Linus Tech Tips YouTube, but have joined the forum tonight in desperate hopes that perhaps the fine people of this forum can help me solve a problem that has been plaguing me for a week now. I'll try to make this as detailed as I can, while still getting directly to the point (I'd rather not waste anyone's time). EDIT In the interest of avoiding the dreaded TLDR, here's the real short version of my problem I'm experiencing laggy and jittery video, regardless of whether or not the video I'm watching is in a browser, or is a movie file from my hard drive being played on MPC. I previously had a GTX 970 on this same system with no issue. I did a fresh format and install of EVERYTHING this week after purchasing a 3 month old Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini from someone who took excellent care of it, but now suffer from lag, jitter and occasional screen tearing. In BF4 (the most recent game I own), the problem is present as well, though less noticeable. My FPS range from 37-62 however, and never higher (all default settings). The remainder of this post has as many important details as I could think of, and was done in an effort to avoid anyone needing to ask questions that SHOULD have been included by the OP (myself), as I see this often). Let's start with my build and get that out of the way first. CPU: Intel i7-4790k with an EVO 212 Cooler Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate - BIOS V4.11 (I've neglected to update because last time I tried, it gave me an error and didn't want to reboot) Memory: G.SKILL Sniper Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 2400 PSU: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini Running 3 acer S220HQL 60hz monitors (2 monitors on DVI, 1 on HDMI using a DVI to HDMI adapter attached to the monitor) My windows drive is a Crucial M500. I also have a Kingston SSDNow V300 as a secondary drive for games, and then 2 1TB SATA drives for the "whatevers" (they're a little older but still function well). Lastly, I'm on Windows 7 x64 (I haven't done Windows update since the release...I mention this because I'm willing to accept that it may be part of the problem, but I tend to avoid updating due to past poor experiences). My most recent Userbenchmark results with NOTHING but Windows open can be seen here: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/3530672 Everything is freshly formatted and installed with the latest up to date drivers on all, nothing over clocked except I guess for the DRAM if you count the XMP profile. Under a light load with both Chrome and Chromium open with multiple tabs (2 instances of Chrome, one has a video streaming), and several misc smaller programs (such as discord, mIRC and DisplayFusion), my CPU temp is 37-41C with the occasional momentary spike to 44 and my GPU temp sits between 48-51C. Under this load I'm using about 4.90gb of DRAM and my CPU jumps from 7% to 12% I have Vertical sync set to Adaptive in the Global Settings, Power management mode is set to Prefer maximum performance and Multiple display performance mode is on. So..my problem(s)? I find myself occasionally suffering from screen tearing in my browsers (I typically use Chromium as my main browser and Chrome for odds and ends), not all the time, but often enough to bother me and it's mostly noticed when I'm watching video. More often than that though, I'm experiencing LAGGY & Jittery video (not quite stuttering and definitely not buffering, but obviously less frames than I should be experiencing, almost like slow motion at times). It's not 100% of the time, but close to half the time. The browsers DO have Hardware Acceleration turned on (as this helped eliminate SOME of the tearing), and the vsync settings are managed by the global settings (I saw no change when I had vsync turned on for specific browsers). Here's the real kicker though and this is what bothers me the most...I'm also experiencing laggy & jittery video when watching movies through Media Player Classic off of my Hard Drive (it's the only media player I use), and I can't seem to fix it regardless of the settings I play with. Again, not 100% of the time, but far too often to accept. Rather than watching a person run from point a to point b smoothly, it looks like it drops frames in between, or adds additional motion blur that wasn't originally there (this is in movies I've watched over a dozen times and am familiar with, also files that I KNOW are good) Previously I was running a GTX 970 with this exact same system and wasn't experiencing these issues (not that I can recall anyway...maybe I'm just paranoid and expecting too much?), but it had been a year since I formatted, so maybe there's a setting somewhere I'm forgetting. In BF4 (the most recent game I own), running only on 1 monitor, I get low framerate warnings almost non stop, regardless of low ping and fast internet, dropping as low as 48fps just in the menu screen alone. In game my FPS ranges from 62 with dips all the way down to 37, and I will notice the occasional jitter. According to the System Performance Test, my system is in good condition, yet my FPS according to the test are 67. I'm desperate for help here...I've been at this for a good week now trying to make things run smoothly, and I don't feel like this should be the limit of my performance. I've actually downgraded to the 375.95 drivers per the recommendation of a friend, but saw little difference. I realized a little too late in the game that my DRAM is 1.65v, and according to PC Part Picker: "The G.Skill Sniper Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum." This now has me concerned that I may have caused some damage by using the XMP profile and pushing the ram beyond the board's limits. Is that a possibility?? I've since disabled it, causing my ram to want to run at 1333...my performance has only gotten worse as a result. Quite a bit worse actually. I also turned on Triple Buffering momentarily, but saw no improvement. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks. Thanks very much in advance.
  7. So I'm going to be upgrading my CPU when AMD Zen launches. I'm currently picking out which Intel CPU I would get, and when Zen launches I'm gonna choose between the Intel one I picked now or a Zen processor depending on which I like better. I want to upgrade my current FX-8350/R9 390 system to a higher single thread performer, either an i5-6600K or an i7-4790K until I see what Zen has to offer. My questions are these: Are there any advantages to getting the newest chipset/architecture/socket? Would I be disadvantaging myself in anyway by getting a 2 generation old i7-4790K? The differences between the two processors in game appear negligible, is this the case? Would I be hobbling myself outside of games by opting for the i5-6600K compared to the FX-8350? (I already own DDR3 memory, so upgrade cost for both the 6600K and the 4790K are about equal for me) Thanks in advance!
  8. Recently, my cpu fan went bad and didn't realize it was spinning at like 200RPM under load. CPU temps got high as 96 deg C if I remember correctly. It could've been anywhere between 20 mins to an hour under heavy load. How much damage is done to the CPU (i7-4790k not overclocked) or any other part in my PC? Thanks.
  9. Hey, I have saved some money (around 740$) I am wondering what graphics card should I get to upgrade my PC: CPU i7-4790k 4,4 GHz Cooling: Silentium Grandis 2 Motherboard: Z97X-Gaming 5 Gigabyte Ram: HyperX 2x8GB 2400 MHz CL11 PSU: be quiet! Pure Power L8 CM 630W Monitor: 1440p Ultrawide Case is compatible with max 360mm (14,17'') cards. My current card is Radeon R7 260x from older PC. For example GTX 1080 Zotac AMP Extreme have any sense? or better is to get just GTX 1070 MSI. PC wille be used to games like Witcher 3 and programs like Autocad, Revit, Solidworks. 10. I’d like to enquire about if Intel’s i3-6100 (LGA1151) stock cooler could be exchanged for i7-4790K (LGA1150) stock cooler for better cooling performance, and more precisely if they sockets would fit?
  11. Hello everyone, about two years ago I build my PC with an i7-4790K, an ASUS Z97-Pro Gamer and 32GB DDR3 HyperX Savage 1600MHz. I overclocked the CPU to 4.7GHz with an input voltage of 1.900V, CoreVoltage of 1.320V and a multiplier of 47 with a base clock of 100.0MHz. This setting was 24h prime95 stable, 24h AIDA64 stable and 24h XTU stable. About two weeks ago I rendered a recoded gameplay with Handbrake 1.0.7 in 1080p 60fps H.265. My computer crashed! It even crashes with a multiplier of 46 ... 45 looks stable What the duck is wrong with my Computer? The other specs of this machine: SAMSUNG SSD 950 Pro (NVMe SSD) GeForce GTX 980 Ti 600 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Gold Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 Bit (yes I actually bought this back in the day) Here is a picture of my PC:
  12. So, at the title says.. looking for a bit of overclocking help. (For both CPU & GPU) I've got a few beginner questions & some more about the process itself. 1) Is overclocking worth it? Is there any processor degradation of sorts, or will it shorten my CPU's lifespan? (I mean, going to upgrade it anyways in 2 years or less hopefully) It this a just, better way to squeeze more performance out of your CPU or is it kinda risky? I know tons of people that buy "k" model i7s and never plan on overclocking, so just wondering. 2) If it's worth it, how do I go about it for my system for both my CPU & GPU. Firstly, specs. CPU - Intel i7-4790K CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo GPU - MSI GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Power Supply - Corsair CX500 or 600.. Motherboard - MSI - Z97-G45 Gaming Mobo Now, I would assuming the GPU OC's would be done in MSi Afterburner or so, and the CPU OCing is in the BIOS, but I have no clue about voltages & all that stuff. That's kinda why I'm here. :^) Any help would be appreciated.
  13. HI! I just finished building my desk PC, custom high-end liquid cooling, and I decided to push my i7-4790K to the limits. The reason I came here today is to ask for advice on what Vcore and frequencies I should decide to stay on. So here are my alternatives: 4.7GHz@1.272V@55-60C - This is what I'm using now and it seems to be stable. 4.8GHz@1.320V@64-66C - It seems a bit overkill, and I'm not getting very extra much performance for it So the question is, should I go for the higher speeds or stay where I am now, alternatively, try for new voltages. Post your suggestions on what I should try, and what you think I should stay on! EDIT: I’m updating the alternatives frequently!
  14. Hi guys, (Long story short - Worth the money to buy ryzen 3700x with new ram and mobo?) I hope you can give me some advice and tips. I'm planning to upgrade my PC. I use my PC mostly for gaming, OW, PUBG, Battlefield 2 and planning of buying the new COD. Some ppl say that the i7-4790K still is a good CPU and do OK. But it's 6 years old so it feels like it's bottlenecking in some games, especielly PUBG. Am i wrong? I use the Afterburner to see the stats but the CPU never hits 100% during gameplay. I play 1080P and have 144hz monitor. Current PC: GPU - Gainward GeForce RTX 2070 CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K PSU - Corsair CS 750M, 750W MBO - MSI Z97I GAMING AC, Socket-1150 mini ITX RAM - HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz 16GB SSD - Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB LCD - Dual screen 24" 144hz Benq 1080P + 24" 60hz Benq 1080P (used for discord) I have done some research but I'm not sure what to buy. I talked to a guy in my local PC shop. He recommended me to buy the following: CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X MBO - ASUS Rog Strix X470-F Gaming RAM - G SKill Sniper X DDR4 2x8GB 3600mhz CL 19 So my queistion is, do I need that kind of motherboard to benefit the fast RAM 3600mhz, or will a lower clockspeed be ok? I mean if I'm gonna upgrade i rather spend more money to get the best possible setup. BUt i dont wanna spend money of stuff i dont need or can see the better performance. I might buy a 1440P screen in the future. The upgrade will cost me about 800USD here in Norway where I live. Thanks a lot ?
  15. Hello and thank you for reading as I could REALLY use some help right now... so I just got a Intel i7-4790k cpu and I put it into my current pc switching out my old i5-4430. When I started the pc up, everything turned on in the computer, but neither my monitor or my mouse and keyboard detected my pc. I made sure to update the bios before installing the cpu and definitely installed it right even with some new thermal paste. After waiting a few minutes I swapped the cpu back to my 4430 and it booted and worked instantly. My motherboard is the H81I-Plus and it says the 4790k is compatible so i’m not too sure what the issue could be besides something to do with the cpu.. Oh and I also tried clearing the CMOS to reset my BIOS and that didn’t work either.. ANY ATTEMPT AT HELPING WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED as I am pretty much all out of juice at this point..

  17. Hello, I just upgraded my GPU from a MSI GTX-760 SLI to a 8GB MSI Duke RTX 2080 in my current build. Back in 2014, I built my dream computer when I was 15yo (build details below) and everything was great until one of my 760's died and killed the performance in today's games. So, I decided to upgrade my GPU to the 2080, even knowing that a bottleneck would occur. To cope with the bottleneck and unexpected shutdowns, I added more RGB fans hoping this would solve the problem, sadly frames only increased slightly and the shutdowns have continued. So my fellow Glorious PC Gaming Master Race Gods, Is it better to upgrade my current CPU from my Intel i5-4670k to a i7-4790k to reduce bottleneck in 2019 ($500-600 upgrade)? Or should I go with a new AMD Ryzen 2700x build (Budget $1,000. Motherboard, Processor, RAM upgrade)? I am a NVIDIA, MSI, and Corsair Fanboy, change my mind. I would love for Linus and the LTT group to make a video on this topic. Thank you in advance to the community for your generous replies. My current build is as follows with planned upgrades in bold should the i7 4790K not be a good option (Current settings generated with Speccy): Operating System (Future Upgrade to Win 10 Pro) Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU (Future Upgrade to AMD 2700x) Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz 29 °C Haswell 22nm Technology RAM (Patriot Viper) (Future Upgrade to 64GB DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z Royal, 3200MHz) 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (9-9-9-24) Motherboard (Future Upgrade to MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon) MSI Z87-G45 GAMING (MS-7821) (SOCKET 0 Graphics 8GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 (MSI DUKE) Advanced Marks: CPU Intel Core i5 4670K Cores 4 Threads 4 Name Intel Core i5 4670K Code Name Haswell Package Socket 1150 LGA Technology 22nm Specification Intel Core i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz Family 6 Extended Family 6 Model C Extended Model 3C Stepping 3 Revision C0 Instructions MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, Intel 64, NX, VMX, AES, AVX, AVX2, FMA3 Virtualization Supported, Enabled Hyperthreading Not supported Fan Speed 1508 RPM Bus Speed 100.0 MHz Stock Core Speed 3400 MHz Stock Bus Speed 100 MHz Average Temperature 29 °C Caches L1 Data Cache Size 4 x 32 KBytes L1 Instructions Cache Size 4 x 32 KBytes L2 Unified Cache Size 4 x 256 KBytes L3 Unified Cache Size 6144 KBytes Cores Core 0 Core Speed 3600.4 MHz Multiplier x 36.0 Bus Speed 100.0 MHz Temperature 31 °C Threads APIC ID: 0 Core 1 Core Speed 3600.4 MHz Multiplier x 36.0 Bus Speed 100.0 MHz Temperature 27 °C Threads APIC ID: 2 Core 2 Core Speed 3600.4 MHz Multiplier x 36.0 Bus Speed 100.0 MHz Temperature 32 °C Threads APIC ID: 4 Core 3 Core Speed 3600.4 MHz Multiplier x 36.0 Bus Speed 100.0 MHz Temperature 27 °C Threads APIC ID: 6 RAM Memory slots Total memory slots 4 Used memory slots 4 Free memory slots 0 Memory Type DDR3 Size 16384 MBytes Channels # Dual DRAM Frequency 800.1 MHz CAS# Latency (CL) 9 clocks RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 9 clocks RAS# Precharge (tRP) 9 clocks Cycle Time (tRAS) 24 clocks Command Rate (CR) 2T Physical Memory Memory Usage 43 % Total Physical 16 GB Available Physical 9.00 GB Total Virtual 32 GB Available Virtual 23 GB SPD Number Of SPD Modules 4 Slot #1 Type DDR3 Size 4096 MBytes Manufacturer Patriot Memory Max Bandwidth PC3-12800H (800 MHz) Part Number 2133 CL11 Series SPD Ext. 18. Back in september i switched out my 970 for a brand spanking new 2080. I quickly experienced that the card was under performing though, only reaching 60% usage in most games, 100% in Forza, and some times it just rejects everything and slowly goes to idle usage (youtube video is of the event). I as many other people ended up blaming my i7-4790k for the issues, blaming it on a CPU bottleneck and to few lanes, since i was running the card in 8x. Last week i switched out my 4790k with a 2700x, thinking that new mother board, new ram, new cpu, would do the trick. But alas it did not, exact same problems as before. Getting 10 - 20fps more, but i write that off as the 2700x doing its job. I have tried most solutions: Reinstalling drivers using old drivers "Buying a new everything else" Checking Bios settings regarding the card (running at 16x) Making sure the card has enough power, testing differences between nvidia DSR and non DSR. Overclocking Under clocking Using only one display. V-sync I know allot of people have this same issue, and most of them just get scurried away with "CPU bottleneck". So i hope this confirms that it isn't a CPU bottleneck. Performance TANK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljs_h7bi0qY&t=46s
  19. Hello, For nearly a year I've been receiving error code "00" on my Asus motherboard. No POST happens a lot of times but after turning it off and on for a couple of times(Sometimes just leaving it off for a few hours and then turning it on again) it will again continue to work normally. During the time when "No POST" happens, I've tried removing RAM sticks and i still received the same code. I've also taken my computer twice to the repair shop. These people did the same thing which I did. They checked with different RAM (Same Code-00), then they changed the PSU (Which I couldn't because I don't have extra parts to test but still same Code-00). And then they say its a motherboard problem and they need to mess with ICs else my computer wont turn on. Another person said my motherboard is dead and i should buy a new mobo instead. I usually just take the PC back because i know that if i leave it off for a few hours, it ends up working fine(Most of the times it turns on with a couple of attempts). May I know what should I do to fix the 00 error so my computer works fine always? Things I have tried: Resetting the BIOS. Works for a day and then it goes back to Code-00 and after 4-5 attempts of powering On and Off it works fine. Leaving the system on for 10 or so minutes and then retrying (It works most of the time this way). Saw this on a youtube comment once since a lot of people seem to be getting this 00 error. The explanation which the user gave was that the processor needs a bit of warmth. (But again sometimes it doesn't work). Keep in mind, when my computer works it works perfectly. I even tried doing the stress test on CPU-Z and it worked fine. Could it be some major problem still? Specs: MOBO: Asus Maximus vii hero motherboard CPU: Intel core i7 Processor (4790K) LGA-1150 PSU: Corsair VS650 ATX Power Supply (650 watt) RAM: HyperX Memory. 8GB DDR3 (1866 CL10 240 Pin UDIMM) Memory Module FAN: Cooler master Hyper TX3 Eco (Intel LGA 1151) SSD: Samsung SSD 850 Pro Cabinet: Cooler master 912 HAF (Micro ATX/ATX)
  20. Never really watched my temps (much), until I started to get some new fans for my case. My i7-4790k is running at around 33c at idle / youtube watching kinda loads. It does not have any OC currently. When running an Aida64 Stress test to check the new fans, it instantly jumped to 80-85 degrees. Even on FULL BLAST fans (set to 100% for the test). I still did not think this was that bad, since it is a stress test after all, but my wife also got a new case + fans. And her CPU never runs hotter than 62c. Even on full blast + maximum OC (i5-3450 only, but clocked to the limit of x39) This got me thinking: Is my i7 running too hot? Specs are: i7-4790k Glorious 212 cooler with 2 fans (one that came with the cooler, added a Noctua 120mm to the mix (80ish cfm, 2.6mm air pressure) Front intake 2 Pantheks 140mm fans Exhaust 1 Pantheks 140mm fan Fractal Design R4 case (replaced the stock fans with those mentioned pantheks and added a second front intake) Note: My idle temp went from 40-45c ish, down to 31-33c when adding the new fans. But the temps under stress still got me worried. Is my wives i5-3450 really that much cooler? She has less cooling in total, but still has a 20-25c delta over my machine. It just does not feel right. Was considering changing thermal paste, but wanted to check for input here first.
  21. Hi there, I found a guy selling his i7-4790k for €240. Question is: should I buy? It seems a bit excessive, but since I do have a Z-97 platform and an i5, and not expecing to upgrade for at least 2 years, I'm thinking about this. What would you guys and girls do? Thanks!
  22. Hey, so I just recently upgraded my graphics from a GTX 970 to a 1080Ti, I currently game at 1080p on a 60hz monitor and the 1080Ti is absolutely crushing everything I throw at it (within reasonable limits ofcourse, some graphical features in certain games eat up GPU usage like anything, while making little to no noticeable difference in visuals), which has me thinking, now might be a good time to upgrade to 1440p (which I was planning on anyway, that's why the 1080Ti). But I have some doubts regarding my existing CPU...the i7-4790k (I did not overclock it, it remains at 4GHz), I know its gotten old, but its an i7 and many seem to think the 4790k is still a very capable CPU, but I can't seem to know for sure if it won't bottleneck my 1080Ti in any way when going up to 1440p? Based on what I understand regarding how this works, higher resolutions mean more load for the GPU (which the 1080Ti should be more than capable of handling) whereas higher refresh rates make more work for the CPU..? I do want to get a 1440p monitor, but I can't say I really care for 144hz refresh rates, I'm happy at 60hz. So is the 4790k at stock speed good enough for 1440p gaming at 60hz with a 1080Ti? Or will I have take it upto the unlocked 4.4GHz? Or do I have to think about upgrading my CPU (which would mean pretty much upgrading everything else as well while I'm at it...MoBo, RAM etc.) before I plan to go for 1440p?
  23. PC Components: Motherboard - ASUS Z97-A CPU - Intel i7-4790k RAM - Corsair Vegeance Pro 16 GB (8 x 2) GPU - Asus Strix Nvidia 960X Power Supply: Corsair CS 650M Hello. I had built a new PC and its been running fine for the last 2 years. A couple of weeks ago I had faced a problem. The PC would not boot up. All fans on the MB are running and the MB power status lights are on. However the red CPU light was on steady. But there is no display on the monitor. The following have been done: 1. Monitor checked with another laptop. Display works fine, not a problem. 2. Display cord disconnected from GPU and connected to MB display card. Still no display. 3. Removed and reconnected all the connectors. 4. Cleared RTC RAM. 5. CMOS Battery reset. 6. Suspected CPU, got it replaced under warranty. 7. However, after installation of new CPU, the red light still stays on. 8. Both RAM sticks removed and reinstalled. 9. Removed heat sink and CPU, checked for bent pins and reinstalled. The problem still remains. Any help would be welcome!
  24. So last night my PC failed to start displaying Q code 00. I checked the manual and Qcode 00 is not used, however Google tells me it's a CPU problem. My system specs are: CPU: i7-4790K Motherboard: ASUS Z97-Pro RAM: G.Skill 2x8gb GPU: Gigabyte 1080 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs PSU: EVGA Supernova 750W G2 So far my troubleshooting steps have been to: Check all cables for proper fitment Remove/Reinstall CPU and inspect pins Remove the motherboard and test with only the CPU and a single RAM stick. Changed PSU CPU power cable Changed PSU Alternated single RAM sticks Cleared CMOS Removed battery and cleared CMOS The PC was shipped from WA to CT in November, but I had braced the CPU cooler and GPU as well as inspected it upon arrival. Early this week, on Monday I believe, I got a Q code 99 when waking up from sleep. I shut down the PC and checked cables and finding nothing restarted with no issues. Thoughts on my next step? I do not have another LGA1150 Motherboard nor another CPU.
  25. Okay so currently I’m waiting for the new stuff to drop then I’m going to try and get my hands on an 8700k which will be a whole new platform for me. Right now I’m rocking and i5-4590 combo’d with a 1070 reference, 12 gb ddr3, and I want to say a Gigabyte GA-H81M-H. I get bottlenecked on pretty much every game that I am playing (1080 at 144hz). Would it be worth upgrading to a 4770k or even 4790k? I saw that I could sell the 4590 for ~90 usd and buy an 4770k for just under 200 usd as well as a 4790k for around 250 usd. Would that be a worthwhile trade for me while I wait for the new releases? one more thing, I do have a cheap aio cooler so I could oc slightly better that a stock cooler. It’s the h60i from Corsair. I was thinking if I did get that I would always have that around to keep for a good backup system.
