  1. I recently acquired an older gaming PC from a friend of mine. From what I know, it is possible that the CPU was overheating for a while due to a faulty AIO, though I have no way of knowing this for sure. The PC has a boot loop problem when turning on. Nothing appears on the screen after pressing the power button. The lights will turn on and the fans will start up for a couple seconds, then turn off and back on again. The computer will do this for a seemingly random amount of time until it will make it past the boot loop issue. From then on, as long as the computer remains on, there are no problems. I have tested a new power supply, ram, and motherboard so I am fairly confident that it is in fact the CPU (I have been testing with a hyper 212 evo since I am unsure of the AIO). I guess what i'm wondering is if there is anything I can do to possible fix this issue and if there is any easy way for me to test the AIO. An suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Computer Specs: I7-4790k Asetek 550LC 120mm (Hyper 212 Evo during testing) Gigabyte Z97-D3H ADATA XPG 16 GB kit Corsair CX600M
  2. Okay, Hello! I bought this i7-4790k off Ebay a while ago. (Yes I know, used components are scary.) However, it works alright -- except, if it goes into turbo, or anything over 4Ghz exactly, my entire computer will lock up after a bit and I have no choice but to hard-power it down. And this even happens sometimes (rarely) when it isn't going past 4Ghz. I was trying to play RE3 Remake and it freezes up my PC after about 15-20 minutes, the temperatures aren't anything absurd so I know it's not overheating. They're around ~50c - ~60c while playing a game and idle around ~32c-38c. I have no idea what this problem is, but I bought the processor with the intention of OCing it, and I can't do that at all. So I'm stuck with this stock i7-4790k that hates working sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions what could be wrong? I haven't messed around with voltage or anything like that yet. It's all stock and default. My mobo is the MSI Z87-GD65. Hopefully someone can help, if not I'm just gonna have to move over to a new AMD CPU when I get some money, since this processor has been giving me a headache. Also, I have the Hyper 212 EVO for my cooler, and I have a 700w PSU so I doubt it's that either. I never had any of these problems until I upgraded from my i5-4690 to the i7-4790k. I did fully reinstall windows after installing the new CPU as well, and yes, BIOS are up-to-date. Hopefully someone can help, thanks guys. Maybe it's just a faulty CPU. -- Oh also, it's paired with a XFX Radeon 5700 XT, in case that's relevant.
  3. Hello, For nearly a year I've been receiving error code "00" on my Asus motherboard. No POST happens a lot of times but after turning it off and on for a couple of times(Sometimes just leaving it off for a few hours and then turning it on again) it will again continue to work normally. During the time when "No POST" happens, I've tried removing RAM sticks and i still received the same code. I've also taken my computer twice to the repair shop. These people did the same thing which I did. They checked with different RAM (Same Code-00), then they changed the PSU (Which I couldn't because I don't have extra parts to test but still same Code-00). And then they say its a motherboard problem and they need to mess with ICs else my computer wont turn on. Another person said my motherboard is dead and i should buy a new mobo instead. I usually just take the PC back because i know that if i leave it off for a few hours, it ends up working fine(Most of the times it turns on with a couple of attempts). May I know what should I do to fix the 00 error so my computer works fine always? Things I have tried: Resetting the BIOS. Works for a day and then it goes back to Code-00 and after 4-5 attempts of powering On and Off it works fine. Leaving the system on for 10 or so minutes and then retrying (It works most of the time this way). Saw this on a youtube comment once since a lot of people seem to be getting this 00 error. The explanation which the user gave was that the processor needs a bit of warmth. (But again sometimes it doesn't work). Keep in mind, when my computer works it works perfectly. I even tried doing the stress test on CPU-Z and it worked fine. Could it be some major problem still? Specs: MOBO: Asus Maximus vii hero motherboard CPU: Intel core i7 Processor (4790K) LGA-1150 PSU: Corsair VS650 ATX Power Supply (650 watt) RAM: HyperX Memory. 8GB DDR3 (1866 CL10 240 Pin UDIMM) Memory Module FAN: Cooler master Hyper TX3 Eco (Intel LGA 1151) SSD: Samsung SSD 850 Pro Cabinet: Cooler master 912 HAF (Micro ATX/ATX)
  4. Hello and thank you for reading as I could REALLY use some help right now... so I just got a Intel i7-4790k cpu and I put it into my current pc switching out my old i5-4430. When I started the pc up, everything turned on in the computer, but neither my monitor or my mouse and keyboard detected my pc. I made sure to update the bios before installing the cpu and definitely installed it right even with some new thermal paste. After waiting a few minutes I swapped the cpu back to my 4430 and it booted and worked instantly. My motherboard is the H81I-Plus and it says the 4790k is compatible so i’m not too sure what the issue could be besides something to do with the cpu.. Oh and I also tried clearing the CMOS to reset my BIOS and that didn’t work either.. ANY ATTEMPT AT HELPING WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED as I am pretty much all out of juice at this point.. 6. Hi guys, (Long story short - Worth the money to buy ryzen 3700x with new ram and mobo?) I hope you can give me some advice and tips. I'm planning to upgrade my PC. I use my PC mostly for gaming, OW, PUBG, Battlefield 2 and planning of buying the new COD. Some ppl say that the i7-4790K still is a good CPU and do OK. But it's 6 years old so it feels like it's bottlenecking in some games, especielly PUBG. Am i wrong? I use the Afterburner to see the stats but the CPU never hits 100% during gameplay. I play 1080P and have 144hz monitor. Current PC: GPU - Gainward GeForce RTX 2070 CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K PSU - Corsair CS 750M, 750W MBO - MSI Z97I GAMING AC, Socket-1150 mini ITX RAM - HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz 16GB SSD - Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB LCD - Dual screen 24" 144hz Benq 1080P + 24" 60hz Benq 1080P (used for discord) I have done some research but I'm not sure what to buy. I talked to a guy in my local PC shop. He recommended me to buy the following: CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X MBO - ASUS Rog Strix X470-F Gaming RAM - G SKill Sniper X DDR4 2x8GB 3600mhz CL 19 So my queistion is, do I need that kind of motherboard to benefit the fast RAM 3600mhz, or will a lower clockspeed be ok? I mean if I'm gonna upgrade i rather spend more money to get the best possible setup. BUt i dont wanna spend money of stuff i dont need or can see the better performance. I might buy a 1440P screen in the future. The upgrade will cost me about 800USD here in Norway where I live. Thanks a lot ?
  7. Hello, I just upgraded my GPU from a MSI GTX-760 SLI to a 8GB MSI Duke RTX 2080 in my current build. Back in 2014, I built my dream computer when I was 15yo (build details below) and everything was great until one of my 760's died and killed the performance in today's games. So, I decided to upgrade my GPU to the 2080, even knowing that a bottleneck would occur. To cope with the bottleneck and unexpected shutdowns, I added more RGB fans hoping this would solve the problem, sadly frames only increased slightly and the shutdowns have continued. So my fellow Glorious PC Gaming Master Race Gods, Is it better to upgrade my current CPU from my Intel i5-4670k to a i7-4790k to reduce bottleneck in 2019 ($500-600 upgrade)? Or should I go with a new AMD Ryzen 2700x build (Budget $1,000. Motherboard, Processor, RAM upgrade)? I am a NVIDIA, MSI, and Corsair Fanboy, change my mind. I would love for Linus and the LTT group to make a video on this topic. Thank you in advance to the community for your generous replies. 8. Never really watched my temps (much), until I started to get some new fans for my case. My i7-4790k is running at around 33c at idle / youtube watching kinda loads. It does not have any OC currently. When running an Aida64 Stress test to check the new fans, it instantly jumped to 80-85 degrees. Even on FULL BLAST fans (set to 100% for the test). I still did not think this was that bad, since it is a stress test after all, but my wife also got a new case + fans. And her CPU never runs hotter than 62c. Even on full blast + maximum OC (i5-3450 only, but clocked to the limit of x39) This got me thinking: Is my i7 running too hot? Specs are: i7-4790k Glorious 212 cooler with 2 fans (one that came with the cooler, added a Noctua 120mm to the mix (80ish cfm, 2.6mm air pressure) Front intake 2 Pantheks 140mm fans Exhaust 1 Pantheks 140mm fan Fractal Design R4 case (replaced the stock fans with those mentioned pantheks and added a second front intake) Note: My idle temp went from 40-45c ish, down to 31-33c when adding the new fans. But the temps under stress still got me worried. Is my wives i5-3450 really that much cooler? She has less cooling in total, but still has a 20-25c delta over my machine. It just does not feel right. Was considering changing thermal paste, but wanted to check for input here first.
  9. Planning to upgrade from and i5-3470 to an i7-4790k which is priced really good at 275usd (NEW). Was thinking of doing this upgrade but am q unsure of which motherboard would best fit my upgrade. Looking primarily for something compatible and not really overdoing it w an asus maximus vii. Currently my specs are CPU:i5-3470 GPU-Zotac AMP! 1060 Case : Sharkoon T28 PSU:FSP RAIDER 650 NON Modular 650w RAM: HyperX 16gb 1600mhz (2x8gb) Hopefully the motherboard is compatible w the case and RAM as well thanks for your help!
  10. Hey, I have saved some money (around 740$) I am wondering what graphics card should I get to upgrade my PC: CPU i7-4790k 4,4 GHz Cooling: Silentium Grandis 2 Motherboard: Z97X-Gaming 5 Gigabyte Ram: HyperX 2x8GB 2400 MHz CL11 PSU: be quiet! Pure Power L8 CM 630W Monitor: 1440p Ultrawide Case is compatible with max 360mm (14,17'') cards. My current card is Radeon R7 260x from older PC. For example GTX 1080 Zotac AMP Extreme have any sense? or better is to get just GTX 1070 MSI. PC wille be used to games like Witcher 3 and programs like Autocad, Revit, Solidworks. 11. Hi I'm a noob overclocker, but I now have cooling to get more juice out of my PC. TL;DR go to bottom of this post My CPU is Intel i7-4790K and my MOBO is Asus Z97-PRO Gamer (BIOS Version 2107 11/11/2015), I have a 4.6 Ghz overclock atm., I checked Linus's video guide to overclocking 4790K and other videos. First of all, I don't have XMP as an option in my AI Overclock Tuner, and I have come to the conclusion that a static overclock is easier for me, I tried changing to adaptive/offset, but too advanced for me atm. I will provide you with pictures of the only settings I have changed while achieving my 4.6 Ghz overclock. Red ring is settings I have changed, everything else is on default (auto) with my 4.6 Ghz overclock. Someone in a video guide pressed in some numbers at the CPU Cache Voltage, so I tried that once, but since I don't know how it works I didn't go further, and just put it on Auto again. THE ISSUE At some point I had a 4.7 Ghz overclock, but I don't remember the voltage numbers and settings I used, I later went back to a very basic 4.6 Ghz static overclock instead of trying with adaptive. The problem with the 4.7 Ghz overclock I had was that it was fine in RealBench and games, but I also tried to convert video in the stand-alone program Handbrake, but it just stopped after seconds. (I read something about there's a difference in having a stable overclock of zero's and one's and converting, which may be somewhat different in that regard, requiring a flow of data with no small pauses, idk.) So I went back to 4.6 Ghz with no settings I don't understand(images provided above^), because with that all my noob tests went through with no issues. MY PLAN, please help My plan is to hear you guys if you think my plan is great and then do the following, my plan is to add more voltage in small steps to try to achieve a stable 4.7Ghz, but maybe you guys know that I should change something else as well to go further? Maybe the CPU Core Ratio and the CPU Core Voltage isn't the only options I should change? Thanks in advance I do know I should use better stress testing and for longer time, but I just want it to work first. And maybe it's time to update BIOS again.
  12. Hey guys! So, I'm not yet upgrading my CPU, but atleast I can look around for 2nd hand CPU's, right now I'm rocking a Z97 PC Mate motherboard, with an i5-4460 3,2 GHz. And I want to know if it's best upgrading to a i7-4770k or i7-4790k, and if so, how much cheaper should the 4770k be, before I should consider that one instead of the 4790k?
  13. I have my i7-4790k overclocked to 4.8 GHz and the Vcore at 1.38 as low as I could get it stable. It has a Corsair H100i GTX with the thermal paste it came with. When running Aida64 Extreme System Stability test the core temps are very different. At Idle they are 1-32c 2-33c 3-34c 4-27c and at 100% jumping from max high to max low at 100% 1--84c 59c 2--93c 63c 3--89c 62c 4--85c 54c. That seems a little crazy to me. With a H100i GTX this CPU should even get close to that. This thermal paste has been on the CPU for 1 year without being touched so it should very easily be cured. I know thermal paste doesn't cure but it does take a bit to get to its peak performance. Maybe I should lapp it or Delid it and put Liquid pro on it. I wouldnt have any issues Deliding it at all im really good at that kinda stuff but there is always the risk of dmg so maybe lapping the cpu and cooler would be good enugh. What do you think?
  14. Hello Everyone, Yestarday I left my house for about an hour and left my computer on. I got Home and at first I was talking to My Mother Until I noticed my Computer Randomly Shut Down and the CPU Fans Ramped up to Full speed. I got worried. I noticed afterwards the Computer tried to boot up 2-3 More Times (My Keyboard LEDs were going On then off.) Until the Computer Quit Trying. At First I thought it was just some External Cords were Bumped (i.e. Surge Protector, Power Cord) But that wasn't it. Then I looked at the internal Cords, They looked fine too. I even Pressed down on the CPU Power Cord and the 24 Pin Motherboard Connector to make sure they were in properly. I thought the Motherboard or Power Supply Failed until I saw that my Blue LED Mouse was still Illuminating when being plugged into the the motherboard USB Port. (Light usually illuminates when the system is off.) Then I noticed On My Corsair H100i, On My Top Fan (My Corsair H100i is Mounted in the front of the case) My Top Fan had a little liquid on it, I touched it and noticed it was very oily. So I started to think I had a Coolant Leak, but then upon removing my CPU Block, The CPU looked fine as I saw no coolant and just the CPU. (Though the Coolant looked damp, It was just only installed in January) Also Upon inspecting my CPU Block, there wasn't any Green Coolant leaking out the sides as people have reported in the past. In the days leading up to this I did notice Strange Behavior as my CPU was Blue Screening a lot after updating my Bios to the newest Version. The Upgrade was from Version 1.9 to 2.0. I also was starting to play around with Voltages (Under Volting for better temps) but the system was unstable even when I set the Voltage Input to "Auto". So I set the Motherboard back to the Default setting of 1.9v. The Blue Screens Stopped, and now Two Days Later you can see the system has downright Failed. I'll have pictures coming soon, but for now all I have is a picture of my system from BEFORE I did Cable management so the cables look messy. I'll also have a close up of the Liquid found on the Corsair H100i soon. Thanks everyone for your help in advance. EDIT: Here is a Video of the PC Failing to start: http://youtu.be/YZyUiByubZA EDIT 2: A friend told me to add the detail that when I was Under Volting, I at one time set the Voltage to 1.22v (Not knowing that Input doesnt equal core Voltage.) and upon starting the PC failed to start until AsRock Bootguard reset the settings to default and allowed me to start up my PC once again. My Friend has just now taught me that Under Volting can also damage hardware.
  15. I recently posted a thread about a new AMD build... but I scrapped that idea and a few guys helped me come up with this build instead. Please bear in mind I already have a bunch of hard drives and ssd's so No I don't need anymore. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qZYxkL Also bear in Mind I plan on overclocking my cpu, this pc is going to be mainly used for PC gaming and video editing. £1500 budget. Running 2 Monitors. Only 1080p Why am I upgrading? Because my current build is over 2 years old and I like building PC's... duh
  16. Hello guys I had my build for 2 weeks now I had it built in a local store because I don't have that much experience in PCs, I was very happy with the performance until a guy told me that I am not getting enough FPS on my games OS: Windows 8.1 (64Bit) CPU: i7 4790K 4.0 GPU: iChill Geforce GTX 970 4GB Ultra 1178Mhz M/B: ASRock z97 Extreme6 Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 8GBx2 1600Mhz HDD: WD Blue 1TB SSD: Corsair LX 128GB P/S: Aerocool GT 500W GOLD On Battlefield 4 on 1080p Ultra settings and 4xMSAA I get 60 Fps, same thing with Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Skyrim. and here is the 3dmark benchmark: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5257746 Sorry if there is something not clear, my English is not that good.
  17. I'm designing a computer for my mom. Right now she has a Lenovo Ideapad Y570. She's had it for about 5 years now. It has an Intel i7-2630QM running at 2GHz and 8 gigs of RAM. The thing is borderline unusable. It takes a solid 5 to 10 minuets to fully boot and once it finally does it's a nightmare to use. The RAM sits at 41% at idle and the CPU rockets up to 100% when you try to do anything. I've tried cleaning on multiple occasions and it barley helps. I can't reinstall because it didn't come with a backup disk and Lenovo wants us to pay for one. So I figure it's beyond time to upgrade. She uses it to serf the web, use turbo tax, use excel and she refuses to give up her ridicules desktop apps like calenders and weather apps and what ever the hell ells she has on there. This is what I’ve come up with. She likes really small cases so The Inwin H-Frame Mini is perfect but I’m concerned about the PSU. It's only 180w and as far as I know it's proprietary. She wants to run dual monitors and I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with on board graphics so I was quit pleased to find this tiny MSI 750ti. The only problem is while the card is single slot and half height the cooler is raised a little above the rear bracket and I’m not sure it'll fit because of it. I plan on under clocking the RAM for some added stability. I picked it mostly because it matches the board so nicely. As far as I know it's not too tall. The CPU is something that's really giving me pause. I'd like to get the price down some but I don't know how well an i5 or i3 would handle larger Excel sheets or turbo tax. I feel like an i3 wouldn't be enough but I was thinking an i5-4690s for it's low TDP. It would lessen the load on the PSU and be more manageable heat wise in such a small case. So to get to the point. Would the i5-4690s be enough, will the graphics card fit and will the PSU be able to Handel it all? Any suggestions on lowering price are welcome too. Overall I think this would be a pretty cool little computer. Would make a good media PC or steam box or even a cool gaming rig if you're tight on space in a dorm or something. Not really the point of this question, was just a thought. 18. I recently got an i7-4790K Since it is the unlocked version, I was thinking of overclocking it. But Im on a tight budget, and z87 or z97 are expensive (especially since my Rig right now is ITX and i want to keep all of it except the CPU and Motherboard) I did some research and read that you can now overclock on the non z chipsets. Is this true? If this is true, can i get some suggestions on what i should get. I need an ITX LGA1150 motherboard that is capable of OCing my i7 and is not z87 or z97. I have a budget of around $100 Cad. If I need to get z87 or z97, I can wait a few weeks.
  19. I wanted to upgrade my cpu from Intel Pentium G3220 to an i7-4790k. When I install the new cpu in my computer it won't boot. There is no signal to the monitor and no power to keyboard/mouse. When i reinstall the old cpu everything works normally. I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and can not seem to isolate the problem. Does anyone have suggastions to where the problem might lay? I know the i7 is overkill, but it is an ongoing upgrade. Specs: Corsair CX 500W PSU - ASUS B85M-G, Socket-1150 - Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 1600MHz 4GB - ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 1GB PhysX CUDA -Windows 8.1
  20. So I've gone through most of my upgrade path for my PC, aside from a couple SSD's im going to be picking up fairly soon .My next idea is to do a full custom loop for my cpu and gpu. Specs are as listed CPU: i7-4790k (OC: 4.7Ghz) Mobo: MSI Z97-G43 Matx GPU: Nvidia GTX 980 strix RAM: 16GB 1600MHz PSU: CX600 Watt Corsair Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 At the moment i have an All-in-one for my CPU, and performance is fine. I'm mostly just doing this for aesthetics and the slight performance increase that a custom loop might provide. I'm sure you all have seen the picture provided a million times before, well its sexy so . I would like to have that same bay res but in blue. I just don't know the name of it or anything Anyways to sum this up, I don't know what to look for when buying water cooling parts or what to account for, I would extremely appreciate any help you guys can bring me and hopefully it will end up looking fantastic.
  21. Hi everyone. This post is so I could maybe get some feedback from "hopefully" advanced builders. This is my planned config.Disclaimer: Right now, the I7-4770k is selected; I plan on using an I7-4790k! This build will be used for gaming; video editing and general workloads. I composed my parts with reliability and stability in mind. This is the reason why i went the Sabertooth Series and the AX760i; They both have stability, reliability and nice looks. You've got to admit: Sabertooth just looks so good ! 22. Will the i7-4790k and MSI Gaming 5 be compatible with each other? Also will it support quad channel memory?
  23. So these are the components: - Intel i7-4790k - Corsair H80i w/ 2 Corsair SP120 Fans or NZXT Kraken X40 w/ 2 Corsair SP140 Fans - NZXT H440 case Note: No shop is selling the Kraken X41 if you'll be wondering why X40 is my choice. I'd like to keep the rads' size 120mm/140mm. I'll be overclocking and my target clock is 4.4/4.5GHz. I'm also planning to place the rad on the rear exhaust of the case and the fans in a push/pull configuration. Questions: 1. Can it do the target clock(4.4/4.5) without worrying about the temperatures even when under heavy load? 2. Which do you think should I go for? Corsair H80i or Kraken X40? 3. What do you think about my temperatures in idle for Corsair H80i or Kraken X40? Other suggestions are welcome. If you'll be suggesting another CPU Cooler, like I said I'd like to keep the rads' size 120mm/140mm but I'll consider the 240/280mm if I can't hit the target at safe temps. The bigger rads I've found in my area are: 1. NZXT Kraken X60 2. Swiftech H220 3. Corsair H100i 4. Corsair H110 Edit: Added a poll

  25. Hey, Since I am completely new to PC building, could I have your opinion of the aforementioned motherboard (Asrock z97 Annivesary) with a i7-4790k, crucial ballistix sport RAM, gtx970 and a wifi card? Questions: Will there be too little space for my wifi card/RAM? I am using a cooler master seidon 120V. Overclocking performance? BIOS of asrock MOBOs?
