Hi, Back in 2013, I used my first 'real' salary to build my first gaming computer. Nowadays, I moved overseas (from France originally) and my computer is now taking dust since the past 4 years back at my parents place. I might get back my old computer soon and would like to be able to play at least somewhat recent triple A games @1080p/100 FPS (or CS:GO at 300fp ). This is what I have (price in euros of the original components, for reference if anyone is curious): Motherboard: MSI H87-G43 96.65 CPU: Intel Core i5 4670 --> updated to i7 4790 209.99 CPU cooler: Silverstone Argon AR01 20.66 GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC TF - 2 Go 254.99 RAM G.Skill Extreme3 Ripjaws X DDR3 2 x 4 Go 2133 MHz CAS 11 --> additional 2x4GB DDR3 @2133Mhz RAM 66.29 SSD: Crucial M500 - 120 Go 94.99 HDD: Western Digital (WD) WD Black 3,5" - SATA III 6 Gb/s - 1 To (Caviar) 79.69 Case / Power supply: Cooler Master Silencio + GX 550W 109.95 Monitor Screen: Asus VG248QE 329.99 DVD player: LG GH24NS - OEM 29.93 Sound card: Asus Xonar DGX 27.49 Total of 1320.62 euros (rate 1.33 back in 2013 so ~1757 USD?). I recently manged to get a second hand i7-4790 (65 euros) and additional 8GB DDR3 @2133Mhz RAM (33 euros). So I only have to invest in a better GPU now. I was looking at 1660 SUPER/TI, RTX 2060, 1070 TI, 1080 TI... but not sure if it's overkill (or not) and if my CPU will "bottleneck" any high-end GPU (like 1080 TI). Also I'm not aware at all about what AMD can offer for full HD gaming. I'm not in a hurry and don't mind buying second hand. So basically, I'm open to any suggestion, even the most crazy on like "wait 10 more years and buy RTX 2080 TI second-hand for a fair price" Thanks!

As the title states, would this CPU be enough to handle a GTX 1080?

So in the next few months I will be upgrading my GPU and my PSU and I was wondering if there will be any major bottlenecking issues. Not sure if you need a detailed spec sheet of my build, but I have an i7-4790 as my cpu, My current GPU is a GTX 970, A 500W PSU, and 16GB of RAM. I would like to get an RTX 2070, and since my PSU doesn't meet the 550W range, I will upgrade to a 650W to be on the safe side. The general settings I would like to run on would be at 1080p with 144hz. I don't mind if I have to set game settings on low, I prefer better frames. Will this combo be good to achieve what I am looking for? I know some games can run at 144hz, but newer titles have a hard time getting there.

I had an i7-4790(Non K) I'm Planning To Buy an RTX 2060, but will the proccesor bottleneck the RTX 2060? If Yes how badly is it going to bottleneck?

is it normal for a i7-4790(non k) to idle with temps about 37c(98.6f) and when loading something like minecraft to hit temps of 84c(183.2f) bearing in mind it has a Intel stock cooler

Hey guys, I've got a question I hope you can help me with. First of all my pc specs: ASUS H81-Gamer MB Intel i7-4790 (non k) 16gb DDR3 Memory Gainward Phantom GTX 970 I'm currently looking into upgrading and am not sure where to start to be honest. Since my pc is quite a bit older by now i wanted to make it a bit more future proof. Im looking forwards to games like Cyberpunk and VR gaming. I've got an Oculus Quest which works fine standalone. But I would also like to use it as a pc vr headset. Problem ist that my pc starts chugging even on the smallest most lightweight pc vr games like VRChat... The usual advice i ge everywhere is to upgarde the GPU first since its the easiest. But people kept pointing out to me, that my cpu is too weak to even handle a 980ti, referring to this website. So accoring to those guys I need to upgrade my cpu and gpu. But that basically means to get and completely new pc since ill need a new mb and memory as well... (I do have a big case and 650Watt power supply which should be fine for any new system) What do you guys think ? I appreciate any kind of advice or help! Thanks in advance, Robert

Hi I was wondering if I could find some help finding a motherboard for i7-4790 intel cpu. I've found a few thinking they'd work but the chip sets were different. I dont really care if the board is for ddr4 or ddr3 as long as ther not more expensive than 200$, thank you to anyone who replies.

Hi, My younger brother just pinged me and asked for my recommendations for either buying a new PC or upgrading his old one. He currently has a Asus Z97-P Socket 1150 motherboard with the Intel Core i7-4790 (not K) with 8GB RAM and a Geforce 970. My first instinct was that the CPU (Quad Core running at 3.6Ghz) would still be sufficient for current (and upcoming?) games and that he would be better off investing in a M.2 PCIe SSD for the system partition (he currently only has a single HDD for everything) and wait for the 11xx Nvidia cards to drop and catch a used 1070 ti when that happens, thus postponing the upgrade of the CPU/MB/RAM. Or will the CPU be a bottleneck for something like the 1070 ti? I am suddenly not so confident giving this advice. Feel free to point out my mistakes. Best regards, Tom Reiertsen

Hey, about to start a build with my friend's old pc, it has a i7-4790 and 8gb ddr3 memory. should i upgrade to 16gb ddr3 memory? is a 1050 ti a good gpu to pair with it? bottleneck calculator says its too weak for my cpu? thanks for the help

I currently have a GTX 760 and an i7-4790, and I wish to play Borderlands 3 on 1080p, would a RTX 2060S work, since Borderlands 3 is mostly GPU-Bound?

Here's the case: I bought an i7-4790 a few months ago. At first, it works pretty fine and then, when I tried to plug in 4 memories for a 32G memory, the system rebooted at very beginning - no video output or anything, just about 5 seconds after pressed the power button, it reboot again and again. The motherboard I currently using will make some short beeps continously when I try to plug in 3 or 4 memories. I tried to change motherboards (I returned and changed like 3 motherboards, because at first I thought it was some sort of motherboard problem), change memories (so I have 4 more extra memories right now), unplug video cards and hard drives - non of them are working. I guess it might be the problem with the memory controller, but I read another passage saying that it could also be a PSU problem. I have no idea what's going wrong with the system so I'm looking for some help. Here's my system setup: CPU: i7-4790 (without K) SR1QF Memory: Kingston HyperX 8G DDR3 1866 *4 (can't plug 4 of them but any 2 of them works fine) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Power Supply Unit: EVGA NEX750G Hard drive: 2x WD Blue 1T Video card: 2x MSI 970 Gaming 4G Other: 1x USB3.0 PCI-E card

So i upgraded my pc with an Asus Z97AR motherboard and i7-4790 cpu and for some reason im unable to install drivers for my cpu. I constantly get an error saying my machine doesnt meet the minimum requirements! Pls help!

I did not research or anything but wouldn't it make sense that the LGA1150 motherboards from a store would be updated to the bios where you can use intel's devil's canyon CPUs? Maybe like a new Rev [ex. Gigabye GA-z87n-WIFI (Rev 2.0)] I am probably wrong

Hi I am a newbie and I don't know how to overclock, my uncle is an ITT person so he helped me figure out my system that I wanted for $2000 USD. So my specs that are needed probably are the motherboard, cpu, psu, and gpu, so my motherboard is the ASUS sabertooth z97 mark 1, my cpu is i7-4790 (not k as I didn't know what that ment and this one was cheaper) my cooler is also probably important it is the coolermaster 212 EVO, the psu is 850W and my gpu is a "pre-overclocked" msi gtx 970 and I plan on getting another gtx 970 but the next one will be a "gaming" version. So I hope all those specs and stuffs help and with those "helpfulish" specs maybe you can help me. Thanks LinusTechTips.com for helping me once again you seem more useful than reddit. So now I will repeativly hit "refresh" until some answer comes up, because I have nothing else to do.

I've been frequently checking their site for AMD and Intel news on new processors, looks like we got a little bit of a treat. Overall, it looks like a standard ~10% improvement but there are some surprises. In some benches, it looks like the i7-4790 can compete well with the Extreme Edition 4960X in hyperthreading. The singlethreaded performance of all the processors seems very good, as well. And the biggest surprise, to me anyway, was how well the IGPUs did in gaming. While AMD has the upper hand with HSA and dual graphics, I think Intel is on the right track with improving integrated graphics. All in all, good read. Nothing major (to me anyway) but I figured I would share. Sadly, no K processors or overclock benchmarks just yet. We'll have to see if there's any major improvement in that department..

Intel Haswell Refresh Lineup For Q2 2014 Unveiled In total, Intel is planning to launch seven new Haswell refresh processor variants which include the Core i7-4790, Core i7-4690, Core i5-4590, Core i5-4460, two low TDP variants with the ‘T’ suffix and a single low-voltage CPU with the ‘S’ suffix. The new Haswell refresh processors from Intel would be compatible with the LGA 1150 socket and both 8-Series and 9-Series chipsets. Intel’s 9-Series chipset will be able to support Intel’s Broadwell processor generation which would be the first chip to be based on the 14nm architecture for consumers. The Intel Core i7-4790 would be replacing the Core i7-4770 and bring a 100 MHz clock speed bump bringing the final clock frequency to 3.6 GHz base and 4.0 GHz turbo. The Core i5-4690 would replace the Core i5-4670 with clock speed adjustments of 3.50 GHz base and 3.90 GHz turbo while the other two processors which include the Core i5-4590 and Core i5-4460 would be replacing Core i5-4570 and Core i5-4440 respectively with clock speeds rated at 3.3/3.7 GHz and 3.2/3.4 GHz. The prices would remain the same as current processors since these chips would basically be replacing the current models at their respective MSRPs.
