Heyo i have a rather strange question. I have an existing build cpu: i7-4770k @4.2Ghz all core ram: 4x8gb ddr3-1600 kingston fury motherboard: asus z87-k gpu: asus strix 1070 ti psu: corsair cx600 loads of mixed hdds and ssds 2x1080p + 1x1680*1050 monitors htc vive for beat saber there is also a standby build from my bro who is away for a year or so(zen5 3600, b450, 2x8_3200, 1660, 500w_no80+ My question would be: If i install the standby1660 in the second pcie x16(x8 lanes) slot and use that as an output for my monitors can i dedicate the 1070 ti just for the vr? Will the cpu even be able to work with so much stuff at the same time? If not can a ryzen 5 3600 handle it on a b450m pro4-f? The integrated graphics do not work for some reason only when there is no dedicated gpu so i am unable to use that. If i can use the two gpus is there a trick to it or they can function on the same driver version? Thank you very much for the help Dave

I built my first PC around 7 years ago using Linus's ULTIMATE Build a Better $2000 Gaming & Silent Workstation PC Computer "How To" Guide back in 2013, with similar specs. That's still the same PC I use today, albeit with a few small upgrades. However, as I am now trying to edit 4K video in Premiere with an extremely stuttery playback, I'm looking to put another $1,700AUD (inc.shipping) into my PC. 80% of my use is Photoshop, Premiere and other editing applications, some GPU heavy, and some CPU heavy. I barely use it for gaming anymore, but when I have the chance, it's mainly sim based games like ETS2+ProMods, Cities Skylines, BeamNG.Drive, which I like to crank the settings up to ultra. I'd really like to get back into ETS2+ProMods, and my PC currently has a really tough time running it, probably due to the huge map size? IDK. I am only really looking to upgrade CPU, RAM, MOBO, & PSU. I have laid out what I think would be a good upgrades, however I am open to suggestions. Current & Proposed PC Specs: CPU Intel Core i7-4770k, never overclocked, stock cooler PROPOSED: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X $499 exl. shipping MOBO ASUS Sabertooth Z87 PROPOSED: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PLUS (WI-FI) AM4 $335 exl. shipping RAM Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 (2x8GB) PROPOSED: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 $349 exl. shipping PSU Hytec 950W non-moduar, would like to replace with a more reputable brand PROPOSED: Corsair RM (2019) 850W 80+ Gold, Fully Modular $209 exl. shipping Things that I'm not changing: STORAGE Many SSD's and HDD's GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti, never overclocked CASE Corsair 500R White I would wait until the prices for these items go down to buy to save some $'s. I'm also fine with stock cooling unless there is a reasonable increase in performance per $. Also, already have a WiFi PCI-e card, however Bluetooth would be good.

Good day fellow technerds! I have my i7 4770k watercooled by an aio cooler (Corsair H105i) and have it running at 4,5ghz at 1.350 volts. I tested stability through rocket league and Cinebench running at the same time and the hottest core reached 81. My question if I should run this overclock or go for 4.4 ghz at 1.25 volts?

Hi there guys, I just discovered LTT on youtube a few days ago, and being a computer enthusiast myself (not like super enthusiast but I know more than the average person) I was looking at trying to improve my performance with my computer but I don't have any cool gadgets like water cooling or the latest hardware. Also, overall my computer runs pretty good but I feel like I can squeeze more out of my computer then what I get. I will list the my specs below but I would like to say that I haven't really done anything behind the scenes as I just pretty much plugged in and downloaded the drivers so there is nothing impressive with what I have done. CPU: Intel i7 - 4770k base 3.5GHz (have it running at 3.96GHz with OC genie on my MoBo) GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW edition RAM: 1333 MHz G-Skill x2 and 1333MHz Kingston x 2 (4x4GB DDR3) PSU: EVGA 750B2 supernova 80 cert bronze MOBO: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming (MS-7845) Hard drives: 128GB mSata SSD 500GB WD Black HDD 1TB Seagate HDD OS: Win 10 Anniversary 64bit Home In terms of a cooling solution, I have a stock CPU heatsink and fan as well as a 90mm fan in the back, a 90mm fan on top, as well as a 90mm fan in the front of the computer. However, I also leave the side of the case open as I have a pretty terrible cable management solution which prevents me from closing the case completely. (plus I like to look inside once in a while and admire my comp xD) Cinebench R15 Results are attached and the link to my fire strike results are below. http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/18495675? My main questions are... 1) What can I do for overclocking my CPU 2) What can I do to better optimize my computer outside of the normal plug and play with components. now something that I noticed and I am not sure why it is but in task manager it says that the speed of the CPU is at 3.96GHz constantly even in idle moments like while I am typing up this topic, however, my maximum speed apparently is 3.50GHz. Now I do have the OC Genie feature enabled and running on my motherboard and I do believe I have Intel's turbo boost enabled as well which might have something to do with it but I don't know if I am actually getting 3.50GHz or 3.96GHz. My objective to make things better with what I have here is because I do tend to stream some games sometimes, even though getting a 6 or 8 core CPU would be preferred, I don't have the money currently to upgrade. The other thing as well is that I would like to see if I can make my desktop better for programming and rendering in Unity as I have some personal projects I would like to get started on. One thing I would like to add is that currently my machine is not bad, it runs pretty well, just after binge watching a large amount of Linus Tech videos on youtube, I am starting to feel like I can do more with my hardware without actually having to upgrade anything. If you need more information, I will try to get that for you if I can. Thanks everyone

I need help selecting parts for a new build. This computer will be run all the time as a Plex Server / Casual Gaming Computer / HTPC. I'd like it to be quiet, as it will probably stay in my lounge. I am currently in the process of upgrading my current gaming rig, so I could transplant some of the parts from that. Old Parts from my Gaming PC that aren't being used: PSU - Seasonic G Series 550W GPU - EVGA GTX780 3GB SuperClocked (I also have 2 780Ti's that I'm selling.) Old Parts from my Gaming PC that are being used currently (If I use these, I'll have to get new parts for my current PC) CPU - Intel Core i7-4770K LGA1150 RAM - 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 The Base Parts that I would like to use for the new build: Case - Corsair Obsidian 250D Ideally, I would like to use as many of the old parts as possible, as I don't want to buy new stuff for it.

Hey there, My PC is running an i7-4770K on an MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming motherboard, with Kingston 2400MHz 16GB (2x8GB) RAM, and a 980Ti graphics card from EVGA. I have been overclocking for a while, but never understood all aspects of it. I have been running my processor at 4.2GHz for over a year, and it has never gotten a blue screen, but recently I decided to attempt an even higher overclock, which didn't work. I was stupid enough to forget to save the overclock I had at 4.2GHz, and now I can't seem to go higher than 4.1 GHz. I might have lost the Silicon Lottery, but I know that I should be able to reach at least 4.2 GHz. I've tried all kinds of settings for both memory and CPU, and it doesn't seem to improve it much. The PC wont stay on for more than 2-3 minutes. I'm pretty lost right now, and I'm just wondering what to do next, so I would appreciate any help I could get. Can't remember my previous 4.2 GHz voltage, but I have tried up to 1,275V. Thanks! (Oh, and I'm running a Corsair H100i cooler)

Me and a friend with pretty much the same PC parts (except GPU and PSU) have been trying to overclock lately. We both have the H100i (i have V1, he has V2) watercooler, but we can't reach a stable overclock over 4.3 GHz. It seems like the CPUs are similar, which is strange. My friends CPU can boot and run stable 4.3GHz for the small amount of time we tested it (no bluescreen), and that is at 1.040V. We upped the core clock to 4.4 GHz, and it crashed on startup. What is strange, however, is that it booted better the lower the voltage we set, until a certain point when it didn't start at all. We have tested everything from 1.000V to 1.350V, but we can't reach 4.4 GHz. His CPU managed to boot at low voltages, so it seemed like a better CPU, however neither of us can reach a stable 4.4 GHz. Is there anything we are doing wrong? Feels like we have tried everything. Specs below: i7-4770k Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB 2400MHz GTX 980Ti (his: 1070) MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming H100i V1 and V2. 750W PSU

Hello, want to build my new virtualization/Nas server. I have my old setup with I7-4770k but I don't support VT-d and I can't mess around with PCIe passthrough I got my hands on E5-2670 v3 from brother as gift so i thinking of selling my old cpu and motherboard with ram and fudding my new x99 i want to ask how much can i ask for this combo : 1. G1.Sniper Z97 2. Intel I7-4770K 1150s 3. 16 Gb DDr3 ram 2800 hmz Hyper Beast 4. Scythe Mugen 4 cooler And what x99 platforms motherboard will you guys recommend, as i saw some x99 platforms support quad channel ram so if its smart idea buy 4x4 gb stick of ram ? That HDD do you guys recommend ( price/size)? btw. this server will not run 24/7 i have another for this task . and looking for any sort of advice about this config Thanks in advance ^^

Okay so currently I’m waiting for the new stuff to drop then I’m going to try and get my hands on an 8700k which will be a whole new platform for me. Right now I’m rocking and i5-4590 combo’d with a 1070 reference, 12 gb ddr3, and I want to say a Gigabyte GA-H81M-H. I get bottlenecked on pretty much every game that I am playing (1080 at 144hz). Would it be worth upgrading to a 4770k or even 4790k? I saw that I could sell the 4590 for ~90 usd and buy an 4770k for just under 200 usd as well as a 4790k for around 250 usd. Would that be a worthwhile trade for me while I wait for the new releases? one more thing, I do have a cheap aio cooler so I could oc slightly better that a stock cooler. It’s the h60i from Corsair. I was thinking if I did get that I would always have that around to keep for a good backup system.

I live in Pakistan and have a budget of around 85,000 Rs. (=737$) for a PC build. After a lot of research, I think I will be going with these parts for my first build ( I don't need any storage cuz' I have an hdd). All of these are available in my country in a used condition (except the coolers):- CPU: Core i7-4770k (130$) MOBO: Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 3 (91$) GPU: Zotac AMP GTX 1060 6gb (286$) RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600MHz 4x4=16GB (87$) PSU: Corsair CX500W PSU (21$) CASE: Corsair 400C (61$) COOLER-1: Hyper 212 EVO (New) (31$) OR COOLER-2: MasterLiquid Lite 120 (New) (47$) Total: 707-723$ (Satisfies my budget) Q.1) Are all of these compatible with each other (especially the cooler)? Q.2) Is this a good buy? Q.4) Any bottleneck?

So I want more FPS in CS:GO. I currently hover around 270-350fps on low settings 1920x1080, but the fps dips into the low 100's sometimes and it's really annoying. I have a: i7-4770k Overclocked to 3.9 and water cooled. (Bought in 2014ish) Z87-WS mb 32gb ram gtx 1060 6gb I feel like with that setup I should be getting more fps, am I wrong? This is why I'm hesitating to upgrade because I don't know much about CPUs and am afraid I'm just not getting the most out of mine right now. Let me know what you guys think.

I really need help to try and find a good mobo for under $150 AUD for the LGA1150 socket. I need it to be mini ITX for a Corsair Carbide 250D, and a Intel Core i7-4770k. And hopefully something that isn't too expensive to get into Australia. Or would it be cheaper and easier to get a new CPU / RAM / MOBO?

Hi there... I know the i7-4770K have the rumor about it's high tempatures, good chips, bad chips, etc... But I might think I can top the temperatures... So I'm trying to figure out what the ... I should/can do... When stress-testing with AIDA64 (CPU, FPU, Cache, System memory), my CPU package lies around 64-67 celcius with stock settings. (Ambient temps are atm. around 14 celcius in front of case.) Which seems to be "okay", even it's quite high with the low ambient temp. (CPUID HwMonitor shows 5-10 celcius higher temps., for some reason?) But what's more funny, is that my H80i V2 are running both pump and dual fans at full speed! (Pump at 3000 & fans 2500RPM) Is that really normal or even okay? I'm wondering, and it bothers me, because I see other guys who overclocked and have same, if not lower, temps. If I turn pump and fans down to acceptable speed/noice (pump at 2000 & fans 1500rpm), the temp. inceases to 74-78 celcius. I even replaced my NZXT H2 case with a Fractal Design Define R5 about a year ago, to get a almost quiet system But now I've really had enought and thinking about buying a new computer. (This one is from 2013, so it might be time anyway.)

Hey guys! So, I'm not yet upgrading my CPU, but atleast I can look around for 2nd hand CPU's, right now I'm rocking a Z97 PC Mate motherboard, with an i5-4460 3,2 GHz. And I want to know if it's best upgrading to a i7-4770k or i7-4790k, and if so, how much cheaper should the 4770k be, before I should consider that one instead of the 4790k?

Well, I've been toying with the idea of doing an interim upgrade build of my existing Spartan into a newer spec build for a while now... but the rate things are changing I'm struggling to lock down the final configuration for the next phase Spartan 2.0... So in stead I decided, maybe begin with the re-shell and then at a later stage when I'm truly tired of the internals, do the rest in phases. So this to set things off... here's what I'm starting off with.... Spartan The next phase will be Spartan 1.2 ... basically taking some of the existing components and then re-housing them in a new case... namely the new Phanteks Evolv ATX Tempered Glass case. Links to existing components removed in the part picker list in the hidden section. I'm currently in the process of saving up for the needed components, the theme will be Red, Carbon and Black. More updates on the planning to follow...

CPU: i7-4770K MB: GIGABYTE Z97X-UD5H Cooler: CM Hyper 212x Case: NZXT H440 (stock fans + two extra exhaust on top) Software: Core Temp I've set the OC to 4.5GHz / 1.22v The idle temperature after booting into OS is around 45~55 degrees, and reach over 80 degrees when running AIDA64. This seems quite a lot hotter comparing to results on the internet. I've tried both re-mounting the cooler and re-applying thermal paste a few times. but still get the same results. Am I missing anything here?

Here is my issue. I have a i7-4770K on a asrock h81m-hds. I'd like to add more ram but obviously can't on my chip set. What are my options? I'm pretty sure I am limited to 32BG max on the 770K (correct me if I am wrong.) I'm looking for opinions on what you all think are good options. Money is not really an issue but if you have a favorite that isn't the "top tier" I'd love to hear, like I said just looking for input. Things to keep in mind: This is a 3D/2D workstation that I also use for gaming but that is secondary and now most specs overlap. I work freelance and business is going well so it's time to upgrade. I am mostly in the adobe suite After Effects 80% or the time, hence the need for crazy amounts of ram. I'm running a gtx970 and wouldn't mind the option to go sli in the future (I use a gpu render system so I would get a lot of use out of it) Extra credit: 64GB would be ideal so feel free to give me a processor mobo combo if you feel like going the extra mile but this is second to the problem above) Extra, extra credit: my psu is only a 500W, I know, I know, just haven't gotten around to upgrading it. Sorry if this has been asked new here.

I overclocked my i7-4770k to 3.9GHz and it is running at around 97 degrees Celsius while running a Prime95 benchmark. I am currently using a Hyper 212 EVO as a placeholder for a liquid cooler later on. I have default voltage and I haven't changed anything except for the multiplier to 39. Are these temperatures normal?

Ok, first post! My Build: i7-4770k 3.8Ghz ASRock z87 extreme6 16GB DDR3 G.Skill 2133 GTX 970 FTW 2.0 Corsair H100i GTX 2x 1TB HDD 32MB, 7200rpm 120GB EVO 840 250GB EVO 950 Corsair RM750 I randomly get a POST code of 99 when I boot my computer up randomly (the system stalls at the bios screen). I have learned that the error code 99 means that "Problem related to PCI-E devices. Please re-install PCI-E devices or try installing them in other slots. If the problem still exists, please remove all PCI-E devices or try using another VGA card". I have tried each of my 3 PCIe slots with the random POST 99 still occuring, I originally was using a GTX 760 with the same POST 99, and the only issue on the MOBO is that one of my USB 3.0 headers has a broken pin (which prevents 1 of the ports from not functioning at all). Now 1-2 of my USB 3.0 ports directly from the MOBO do not function / function sporadically. I have just done a clean install of my OS (Win 7 Pro x64). I also flashed my bios to the newest version and it seemed to only make matters worse, luckily my MOBO has dual BIOS, so I was able to use my alt BIOS config. Does anyone have an idea as to why I am getting a POST 99 error code, my faulty USB 3.0 ports on the MOBO, or if the USB 3.0 Header is causing a short when its plugged in? Thanks all for any knowledge you can provide! EDIT: I have cleared the CMOS as well.

Hi Guys, I have recently upgraded my CPU from i5-2320 to an i7-4770k and I couldn't be happier although every time I play ArmA 3 multiplayer I get 6fps or lower until my inevitable crash. With my old CPU I was getting like 9-20 (which is why I upgraded in the first place) and others who have the same chip experience an FPS of 40 and upwards on the same servers. I also bought an SSD and made that my boot drive, so I think I may have forgot to install a driver or something which is causing these issues but all my other games seem to work flawlessly with much better performance than my old setup. All in all I'm just really confused and I'd like to think someone could help clear this up for me. System: i7-4770k CPU MSI Z87-G45 MOBO GTX 680 GPU CX750 PSU Thanks, Builder.

Hey there, I want to start on a new build soon. I'm planning on making a solid build which will last for years to come. Below is what I've come up with after much discussion with my friend and review of other opinions. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£224.99 @ Aria PC) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler (£64.90 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£129.99 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£120.00 @ Ebuyer) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£212.10 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Disk (£212.10 @ Amazon UK) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Superclocked ACX Video Card (2-Way SLI) (£527.74 @ Scan.co.uk) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Superclocked ACX Video Card (2-Way SLI) (£527.74 @ Scan.co.uk) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case (£79.99 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£99.98 @ Ebuyer) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) (£69.96 @ CCL Computers) Monitor: Samsung U28D590D 60Hz 28.0" Monitor (£415.00~ @ Amazon US) Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Wired Gaming Keyboard (£119.00 @ Amazon UK) Mouse: Razer Taipan Wired Laser Mouse (£69.73 @ Overclockers.co.uk) Total: £2873.22 What we're currently having trouble with in deciding is if we should stick with the paied 780Ti SLI or switch to Radeon R9 295X2 8GB. However we like pairing Intel's i7-4770K with the 780Ti cards. Therefore we don't really want an AMD FX-9590 which is an option to couple with the R9 275x2 card. Our question is how well would it work to use the Intel CPU (i7-4770K) however use the AMD GPU (295X2). Another possible option is also the GTX Titan 6GB. I'm not extremely experienced in all this, as this is my second build, so if it wouldn't be too bothersome, I hope you guys can provide a bit of detail as to why you suggest certain things. Thank you in advance, I appreciate it!
