I have following PC setupCore i7 870 (2.93 GHz ) 8 GB RAM (4x2)Gigabyte P55-UD3L motherboard2 TB Western Digital Green HDDThermaltake Toughpower 650w PSU I'm planning to get a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980Ti within tomorrow. Question is, will this GPU bottleneck my CPU? I'm planning to play AAA games such as GTA V, Far Cry 5 etc on my 1080p Bravia TV.

I recently got an used computer shop and there was an i3 550 and 4 Gigs of ram in it. I have a gtx 1050 for a GPU. After some gamin g with it i found out that the cpu is bottle-necking the GPU. So i did some research and found out an i7 870 would be great for me. Upon searching eBay for used parts. I found out there are Xeon X3470 cpus for $60 while an used i7 870 is $100. After some further researching i'm confused whether it will fit in my MB. Also i'm confused whether i have to change my ram type. Any help is appreciated !!! P.S. I didn't posted this in this forum to see "i7 870 is so old. Change to a new system" type of comments. That was all i could buy. Previously i asked a similar question and the consensus was that the highest performing gpu i should use was the GTX 970 or the R9 390. Is a Rx 480 the new reigning champ that will efficiently work with my i7 870?

ok 3 main questions here 1: which processor preforms best? 2: what is needed to overclock them? 3: what is better value here? motherboards seem to be about the same but there seems to be a wider selection for the I5 then the I7 thanks for any replies and any help here, still trying to get together that freaking LAN pc but sellers of the processors never seem to contact me back

Hey everyone, i'm currently having some problems. I want to upgrade my computer. My current setup: CPU: i7 870, 4x 2,93GHz (not overclocked, stock cooler) Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-P55 USB3 (no SLI support) Memory: 8 GB DDR3 1333MHz (4x2 bars) GPU: GTX 970 4.096 MB GDDR5 Power supply: 650 Watt Be quite SSD: Samsung EVO 840 My problems are: I've benchmarked my current system and noticed that I could have a problem. Actually I don't know. It's just an assumption. So I've used HWinfo64 and RiverTuna for my benchmark. During the benchmark I played GTA V on ULTRA (all settings are on the highest level and texture scaling is on x1.2 or so, except MSAA is turned off) with about 40FPS. Sometimes more, sometimes less. My GPU ran at about 99% utilization, my CPU at 50-60% and my memory at 60-70%. But when i tried to increase my graphics settings (don't ask me. I know that 40 FPS are okay, and even the settings are okay, but i just want more ), i've noticed that my FPS were going down to about 10 FPS and my hardware had the same utilization as before. So my assumption was that my GPU is just too "slow". Don't know how to say. As I've posted my problem in an other board they told me, to overclock the CPU or get the new Skylake generation. My ideas are: Get the a new Skylake i5 6600k with a new mainboard and 16GB of DDR4 memory and don't buy a new graphics card Get the i7 4790k with a new mainboard and 16GB of DDR3 memory and don't buy a new graphics card Get two Radeon R9 390X for Crossfire Now my questions are: Is it worth upgrading to one of the CPUs i've mentioned (without a new graphics card)? Or should i overclock my CPU and get two R9 390X for Crossfire? Of course i would get a water cooling or a big tower. And Would my CPU bottleneck the R9 390X Crossfire? What would be the better solution for me? One thing I should mention is, that I've tried to overclock my CPU to 3,37GHz (just for a short period of time, because of my cooler) and I've noticed a small FPS boost of about 5-10 FPS and an overall better system performance (faster boot etc.). Hey guys! I'm looking forward to upgrading my old i7 870 to a newer CPU. I would like to know if anyone has references for a new CPU to get. I don't really care if it's AMD or Intel I just want it to be equal or better than this i7 and with a newer architecture. I'm on a approx. 200$ CAD budget. Thanks in advance! Phil.

Hello , i want a cooler for my I7 870 , and of course to i will OC my cpu , to about 3.6 Ghz Currently i use Cooler Master Hyper TX3 , which isn't enough , because i like my temps to be about 65-75 max With CM H TX3 i can go up to about 3.45 but i don't like my temps high I would find my self the cooler , but the problem is TX3 hardly fits in my case, which is small , and in my country the cheapest case that is bigger than mine is about 60euro.
