Hello everyone. I have an older PC that still runs very well. I won't be changing my 6700k yet so i wanted to overclock it which is a reason why i bought this CPU back then. PSU, case fans and case are not quite good and i'll be changing them soon. This is long and i'm not an expert so please bear with me. PC: i7-6700K, Z170 Pro Gaming AURA, Hyper 212 EVO, 2x8 Fury 2666, HyperX Fury 240GB 2.5" SSD, Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD, WD Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5", TT Smart 730 W 80+, GTX 1060, 2 stock case fans I tried couple of different OC settings just changing ratio and vcore in manual mode. Ai overclock Tuner was set to XMP. I didnt try adaptive or offset modes until i get a stable system. I ran only Realbench benchmarks for these first 4 just to see how it goes step by step. 4.2Ghz at 1.250v 2 x Benchmarks OK 4.3Ghz at 1.250v 2 x Benchmarks OK 4.4Ghz at 1.250v 2 x Benchmarks OK 4.5Ghz at 1.300v passed 1 benchmark but BSOD happened after the second benchmark. Temperatures were mostly fine for all tests with max at 71/72C but mostly between 60 and 70 when under load (for 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4). After that BSOD i cant even go for 4.4Ghz with 1.250v or 1.275v. Benchmark passes well but AIDA64 stops saying "Hardware failure detected". It fails after 10 minutes at 1.250 and after 20minutes at 1.275. 4.2Ghz and 4.3Ghz at 1.250v still work well. I just tried 4.5Ghz at 1.325v and i ran Realbench Benchmark and AIDA64. CPUZ showed vcore at 1.328 but AIDA64, AI Suite and HWmonitor show vcore at 1.344 and 1.360. Temperatures got higher with max at 83/84 while mostly being between 65 and 75. I stopped AIDA64 after 33 minutes while it failed at 4.4Ghz 1.275v after 20minutes. It seems stable but temperatures are high and i'd like core voltage to be lower. Whatever ratio and vcore i set in Bios, vcore is shown a bit higher in AIDA64, HWmonitor and CPUZ but never drops when idling. When i revert to stock, set everything on auto and run benchmark and Aida64, vcore is above 1.3 (mostly 1.36 and 1.376) which i'm not happy about especially at 4Ghz. It does drop to 0.7/0.8 when idling. Why is vcore always higher than vcore set in Bios? Why is vcore at stock settings so high? What type of adaptive/offset and LLC settings should i try? Could i set lower vcore for 4.5Ghz and would that lower my temperatures to under 75 or so? Should i do some other tests too? I'm not trying to get to some high OC levels and chip might not be able to go far but i'd like to get 4.5Ghz at good temperatures and reasonable core voltage. Any suggestions highly appreciated. Thanx and sorry for the long post.

Fellas, I have following build. i7 6700k GB Z170X Gaming 3 24GB DDR4 RAM (single channel, read more below) Boot: 1TB Samsung 980 NVME M2 SSD disk (OS) Storage 1TB HGST mSATA HDD+8TB HGST SATA HDD Corsair RM750 EVGA 1060 6GB Peripherals connected: Asus wifi 6 card A USB Hub with all four ports occupied. Problems I face: BOOT TIME - It is slow to the epic proportions. Almost 2 minutes. Earlier I was using SATA SSD, the boot time was not so bad, it was about 15-20 seconds I guess. Ever since I upgraded to NVME M2. SSD, it has been a nightmare. I checked the Samsung SSD using magician software, performed benchmarks on it, checked for errors and even ran a speed test - results were as expected. Health is 100%, Read speeds were 2700MB and write speeds were around 2200-2000. I updated BIOS, drivers, disabled services, cleaned drives, increased paging memory, cleared cache and registry cleanup. Nothing! No results. I installed latest Chipset, ME drivers along with Intel RST drivers and updating all sorts of interface drivers that may be causing issues, Nothing! I am about to revert back to SATA SSD and return this drive. But for what? I already spent hours configuring it for my the use. This cannot be due to excessive storage devices - I just have two more extra occupied SATA slots. Nor it can be a power withdrawal issue - I have gold certified Corsair PSU powering up the PC. The only thing left is a clean re-install which is a nightmare for me - I have got so many plugins configured after painstaking calibration, so many hidden settings I played around with just to arrive for something as generic as natural background noise suppression on the mic. I am not looking at this option right now obviously, since if I switch back to SATA SSD, it works fine. So OS is clean as a slate. RAM Stays as Single Channel, won't boot in Dual Channel mode. As if the boot times weren't already aching enough, the system cannot POST in dual channel configuration - I scoured the BIOS - did best to play with all sorts of settings and test things- but nothing worked so far. And I am running on a single channel setup of 16GB Crucial DDR4 2400 and a Kingston Hyperx (the initial RAM I had which I got RMA'd and reinstalled) I guess clocked at 3200 MHz. I know that is a terrible combo, and severe underutilization of HyperX's frequency but hey things worked - in good speed and system did not breach 20GB RAM until I played MS Simulator along with chrome opened with 10-12 odd tabs. And this situation is a rarity for me, I usually work edit, create videos and documentation, besides coding via Visual studio and few other IDEs.. For my work, it is optimum. But guess, fate is playing around me like a kid with a creepy doll in a house with creaking floors! I usually consider myself a good troubleshooter but alas, I am at my wit's end here. I am about to give up on it, cry in a corner and live with the fact that I am a walking meme who's being laughed upon his friends saying "He has a 1TB M2 SSD and a boot time of 2 minutes"

I recently was fortunate enough to upgrade my GTX 1080 for a founders edition RTX 3070, but the performance I've been getting from it is incredibly underwhelming. My current specs are: -RTX 3070 Founders Edition -i7-6700K overclocked to 4.5 Ghz -Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard -16GB of 2133Mhz DDR4 RAM -Enermax 850W Gold Powersupply -1TB WD Black SN750 SSD -Dell 1440p 144hz G-sync monitor My first thought was that my CPU was simply bottlenecking my 3070, and I'd just upgrade it when I have the chance, however I keep noticing that the CPU isn't being maxed out in any game that I play-- usually sitting around 40-50%, though sometimes higher. I checked to see if one of the cores was being maxed on on HWmonitor: none of them were. I removed the overclock and set it to stock to see if it made any difference, but I got the same FPS in every game I played. I'm sitting around only 120 FPS in Valorant and Minecraft (and less than 60 with shaders), I'm getting only around 30 fps with maxed settings in Battlefield V, and flucuating around 100 in Battlefield 2 and 70 in GTA V (all at 1440p). Meanwhile, my GPU will sit as low as 2% in some games. Is there something else that's preventing me from getting decent performance? Tl;dr: I'm getting low fps with low cpu and gpu usage, with no cores maxed out, and running at 1440p.

Budget (including currency): $1000cad Country: canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming, video editing, business administration Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): i7-6700k, Asus z170-a, Corsair AIO, 32gb ram. so this is a 2016 build and my old gpu r9-390 died and now there’s a gpu sale cause of the crypto crash. canada computer has a ton of sales and I was wondering if I would buy a rtx 3080 https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_559&item_id=214130 would be okay? Would there be bottlenecks how would it fair! thanks guys

Hello Guys, I bought an i7 6700k to replace the 6400 in my computer. It's a Fujitsu Esprimo D556. So now I have a couple questions... I would like to be able to control the cpu fan with some kind of software, but i couldn't find any. \ Also, to reach higher clock speeds, will I need to flash a custom BIOS, or is there some other way to use the i7's full potential? Kind Regards Kili20

So I'm not sure how to test for this let alone find others who have, but I'm curious to see if my i7 6700K is bottlenecking my RTX 2080 TI. I recently upgraded from a GTX 1080 and obviously gaming performance is significantly better, but, i'm wondering if there is any bottleneck present, therefore meaning that i could be achieving even better performance with a more modern cpu like say an i9 9900 or something. i dont have extra money to spend on the system right now and i only have the 1 pc so im wondering if anyone else has ever tested this before. Monitor: Asus PG279Q 1440p 165Hz - likely not to change anytime soon

Hello. I recently tried to get better overclocks on my i7 6700k. When i first got the cpu, i overclocked it to 4.5 at 1.275 volts. Then later i wanted to do better, i upped it to 4.7 with 1.325 volts, because anything under just crashed my system. When used prime 95 i got Temps: 60 to 75C after 5 min of testing, Then i tried witcher 3 and i managed to get 80C, is this safe? I have an Corsair H100i V2 Watercooler My specs: Intel Core i7 6700k Corsair H100i V2 GTX Watercooler GTX 1080 Strix from Asus Kingston Hyperx DDR4 2133MHz EVGA GQ 750W PSU Crucial MX 300 SSD Corsair Carbide 400C Clear Case

Hello, so I don't know if I should have put this in any of the other sub things but if I should then please delete this and I'll go ahead and put it up elsewhere. Now a few of you may remember me, I was talking about BF1 and if my current i5 6500 was bottlenecking my GTX 1080 etc... then I was saying about how I was going to get the i7 6700k and what water cooler to get it with etc... point it, I have my i7 6700k coming in tomorrow but my water cooler the NZXT Kraken X62 is coming in the day after(Thursday). Could I put the i7 6700k into my system tomorrow and run it with the stock intel cooler without overclocking it, will it be at a safe temp? Or should I just wait till Thursday to do both things at once?

Hello! I'm going to buy a new CPU for my PC for better editing and rendering. I'm mainly thinking between one AMD cpu and two Intel cpu's. From intel I thought I would buy the 6700k (360 €) or 7700k (393 €) and from AMD I thought I would buy the 1700X (450 €) My max budget is 400 € but if the extra 50 € is worth on the 1700X I can pay the 50 € extra (the 1700 cost 390 €). What CPU do you guys recommend and why? I still have to buy a new motherboard with OC and SLI support too, doesn't matter if it's AMD or Intel CPU. Thank you!

Graphics card stops displaying under load (only in games)
Kilovice posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Ok, so lets start by describing this extremely weird issue. Essentially, I'll be playing games (I've found it most consistent in Overwatch) the GPU will stop outputting any picture. The PC does NOT shut down (Spotify continues to play music, Discord still works, and all peripherals all work) however, no video is supplied. I have triple monitors 2x generic 1080p Acer monitors and 1x BenQ 2765HT at 1440p. My PC specs are as follows: i7 6700K (No OC) (Watercooled with Corsair H100i v2) 32GB (4x8GB) G.SKILL TridentZ DDR4-3400 (running at 2133) (Active cooling with G.SKILL Turbulence 2) EVGA GTX Titan 6GB (No OC) (Watercooled with NZXT Kraken x41) ASUS Z170-Deluxe Corsair HX1200i Windows 10 Pro Here's what I've tried: Running FurMark for 1+ Hr Running Valley for 1+ Hr Running IPDT Running MemTest86+ for 6 hours Updating BIOS (latest is version 3007) Completely uninstalling and reinstalling nVidia Drivers Checking Event Viewer for errors (none to be found) Reseating all power plugs, RAM, and GPU (I did not reseat the CPU) Something rather strange to note is that after rebooting the PC after the GPU stops displaying, the PC will sometimes not boot and will end on Q-Code 99 (which is not defined in the motherboard manual (thanks asus)).- 13 replies

First I know it's months old now but when it was first uplouded I asked the quetion in the comments but since then no one answered, so that's why I am here. Could anyone explain to me how 6700k is better than 2699-v4 (as the title says), when the graphs in the video say the 6950x is better? PS : Does anyone notice that the speeds in 4:37 are fucked up!!!!!?

Sup peeps! I've been streaming time to time for a while now and my viewer base is starting to grow. Now that it's starting to get a bit more serious, a pc update is in place. Current setup includes an i7 6700k, GTX 980Ti, 16Gb DDR4 300MHz, 500gb ssd, couple of hdd and 2560x1440 165Hz monitor. I mostly play cs go with some rocket league/world of warships/h1z1/bf1 mixed in. I'm trying to get a bit more of the stress to my cpu because my upload speed is quite low (100 down/5 up) and raising my stream quality would either need a better connection or a better cpu. Upping the bitrate makes cs go lag just enough to make me frustrated and unwilling to stream but upping the cpu usage makes my fps drop enough that I notice when the dips go under 144Hz and that distracting while playing. Currently I'm leaning towards LGA 2011-3 and i7 6850k because of the full 40 lanes. Only thing that I'm wondering is that is the update from 6700k to 6850k worth it and does the two extra cores bring enough to table that i could leverage them? I also do game on full 2560x1440 so the res does make it a bit more demanding and the other option that I was considering was buying the new asus PG258q 240Hz monitor and gaming with that as the resolution is only 1080p and should be easier to run. Do share your thoughts.

Is a zx70 motherboard and a k SKU i5 or I7 and a good cooler (Cryorig H7, Hyper 212 Evo etc) worth it. I'll be buying a pentium , a z270 board and a gtx 1060 or rx 480 (6/8gb), in order to be able to upgrade to and utilize a K SKU CPU with a cooler, in a year or so. Would i be better off saving money on the motherboard by £40 and buying an ssd, more ram, a better gpu, a nicer case, or cutting my spending down?

Buy 550 full system or 550 without GPU and buy later?
Guest posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Should I buy, with £550, a good CPU and decent GPU combo, no overclocking or anything, just stock cooler and cheap motherboard, or a i7 6700k, a h212evo and a z170 motherboard with no GPU, and buy a GPU in a fair few months. I want to wait a year to have more money for the PC, but I have nothing to game on. Would this be a decent alternative to just flat out waiting a year to have like £1200 and buying it all? The two options are https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cv7yyf and https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/ethan.meskin/saved/hdJt6h. -
Will a 450w be enough for a overclocked 6700k and GTX 1080
Guest posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The title says it all- will the corsair cxm 450w be enough for both of these parts, or is a major price and wattage leap to the m12ii 520w from seasonic be worth the extra cost? is there a good middle ground? i'd prefer modularity but semi is enough and if its a better, i'd go with on modular (If cheaper). keep in mind these are hypothetical upgrades from this build https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/BYLnwV. -
So i have this weird problem with my CPU temps. Most of the time on idle its 30 to 35 degrees Celsius but sometimes it goes up to 40, 50 or even 60 and i'm not even stressing it that hard. Does anyone know why this is? I almost always have Firefox, Skype, Discord and SpeedFan open. So im getting my first build and im using a NZXT s340 as my case but the only thing thats bothering me is the CPU cooler that ill get. Im going with an Intel Core i7 6700k alongside an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW and i dont know what kind of air cooler i should get that can keep up with the i7 6700k 's level (maybe even a small OC to like 4,2 - 4,3 GHz). Originally, i chose the Dark rock pro 3 because i had seen various forum posts and videos which prove it to be a good cooler but after some research i started to worry about the size and how it would fit in my case. After that i started searching for alternative coolers which were under the 100 Euro range and so my attention went to the Cryorig H7. That was the cooler i believed (and still believe) i should get for my build but am still not sure if its good enough for the i7 6700k. The H5 Ultimate was another alternative pick to the Dark rock since alot of people believe it to be a very good cooler and much better than the H7 but the thing is that the H5 Ultimate has a similar size to the Dark rock and im worried whether it would fit into my case (i had read some posts which said their Dark rock/ H5 Ultimate had barely fit in their s340 and that some people even needed to put force in order to close the case). To conclude, im asking whether i should stick to the Cryorig H7 for an i7 6700k in a NZXT s340 or get something else (opinions are always accepted). PS. I would also like to know if these coolers will have any conflict with the ram slots or GPU Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mHN3d6 Thanks for your time

I'm having trouble with my system and I don't know why, My 4.5ghz overclock goes down to 0.8ghz for no apparent reason. I tried to run a benchmark on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility just to check my CPU performance and while running the benchmark it is running on 0.8ghz and states that my CPU is thermal throttling. I don't know if this is a virus or software problem. Also my temps are fine throughout the whole time, I'll try to apply a new spread of thermal paste to see if this helps. Guys, what do you think about this specs?I live in Europe, the total of this is 625€, that's my budget for cpu, board and rams. I wanted to know if it's a good choice. The new kaby lake cpu's are so expensive here.. 50€ more for the same performance... I also can't wait for ryzen, I need to do 3d modeling. i7 6700k - Gaming, Video editing and 3d modeling. Perfect choice I think. Asus Z170-A - I'm building a white based PC, this board costs 151€ it has everything I need. Corsair 3000mhz 16gb cl15 - 2400mhz is good, but 3000mhz is better and is only 5€ more so.. easy choice.

i7 6700K cores too cold?? Is this normal?
Angelo312 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I'm using a cryorig h5 universal, and I checked the temps with other programs but it was always the same. Those max temps we're reached with cinebench with 100% load. But those actual core temps... 12,13,11 and 10ºc are weird... to cold. I'm kinda worried. My room is cold too but not that cold I guess. Also, one more thing, I bought 3000mhz rams 16gb 2X8gb, and activated the xmp profile but instead of running at 1.35v like the advertised voltage, the voltage is at 1.37v... is that bad?- 60 replies

Hi A few months ago I already made a post about this, the problem was even resolved but after about 2 weeks something other happened and now I'm back with my old problem... Old Post: The solution was: It worked! But then I wanted to make a full backup just in case... you know... the same thing happened again.... oh irony As soon as I plugged my backup-drive (WD RED 1Tb) in my Pc it froze... I tried to get it to respond, but in the end I could only kill it (4s on pwr-button). Now, the problem is, that I cannot even get the Pc/Bios/whatever to get to recognise the installation-disc/thumbdrive (thumbdrive with updated drivers of course)! well... they get recognised, but they never boot. So, how can I get my w7 to install / my machine to recognise the media and boot into it? how can I prevent that from happening again? I really hope someone can help me on this! Many Thanks Pumpkin @paddy-stone (I finally got the motivation back)

Hey guys I was wondering if you could give me some reviews of my current pc part list. This is solely supposed to be a gaming pc so keep that in mind please This is my current pc part list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Clemens/saved/DGLBmG Do you see any problems with it or have any suggestions to swap out some components for example for price reasons? I am currently trying to reduce the price tag on it while still keeping the performance relatively stable. Thanks in advance
