Hi All, (first of all I would like to point out that English is not my mother tongue. You may find some grammar mistakes in my posts. Just tell me, if something is horrible wrong. I always try to translate without any help of translating programs. Thank you mates!) Linus always points out, that anybody who is interested in PC Tech should use his forum. So here I am I am doing homeoffice because of the Corona Virus. Also all my plans (holidays, concerts, etc) are cancelled now... It looks like we even have to cancel our wedding in August... Crazy time! My friends and me are gaming a lot at the moment. Because of all this free time. And now I am thinking about upgrading my PC, as it is a few years old already. But I am not sure where to start. Maybe you are bored or interested enough to help me out My PC: Intel i7 4770 (non k) MSI Z87-G45 Gaming 2x Corsair 4 GB DDR3 1600MHz 2x 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (I had them laying around from an old workstation) Gigabyte Windforce OC GTX1070 be quiet 500W 80+ Gold Several S-ATA SSDs and one mass storage HDD Old Corsair Carbide something Case (forgot the number) The GTX1070 is the last piece I upgraded. All in all a good package I think. But I got a new Monitor in a sale some time ago. ASUS ROG PG278QR 144 Hz (165oc) WQHD is asking for more horsepower now. I don't even touch the 144 fps in the most Games at the moment. Except for Games like League of Legends of course. Metro Exodus and PUBG are more hungry for example. I "only" get around 100 fps on medium settings in PUBG. I know I know... I complain on a very high level. But now where I have this Monitor and all this free time... I want a better experience. What would you upgrade first? Would my i7 4770 bottleneck a RTX2070 (Super)? (I am bound to nvidia because of the Gsync Monitor) Would I gain more fps changing the i7 to a Ryzen? Because of faster RAM etc.? I am very interested in your thoughts Thank you. Andy

Will a i7 4770 make a big difference over a i5 6400 with a gtx 1060 6GB? or will the gpu be maxed out by both and show no gains? If i bought the i5 6400, i could squeeze an ssd into my budget, or some other £45 upgrade. The price delta is £45, with the i5 costing £120 and the i7 costing £165 (both are used, from Cex with warranty). The motherboard etc is around the same price. Should i buy a (both used) i7 4770 for £165, a B85 motherboard for £50, and a stock cooler for £3, or a i7 3820k for £65, a used X79 motherboard off ebay for £145 and a hyper 212 evo? Which would give better performance in games (with a rx 480 8gb in 1080p/1440p). I know haswell is a better platform for upgrades but... idk. I can overclock the i7 3820k so.....

Should I go with a used i7 4770 for £165 and a 4gb RX 480, or a i5 4430 with more ram/ better motherboard/ 8gb 480, i5 4460 with better motherboard,8gb 480 or i5 6400 with 8gb 480. i could wait a bit with the 4470 and get a dirt cheap gtx 1060 6gb aswell. Which will give better performance in games? I dont care much about upgradability, im hoping to keep these cpus for atleast 3 years.

Hi all I am looking at building a £800 gaming rig and have found that an new i7 4770/4790 is about the same price as a new i5 (I know the i5 supports ddr 4 and the i7 supports ddr 3 but this is not a major consideration for me) I would be interested to know which is superior.

This is purely hypothetical but i was wondering which would be the best and how similar they would be. From what I know, ryzen has a similar IPC to haswell, and a 200mhz OC would give them the same clock speeds. Other than that they would both be quad cores with HT and 8mb of cache. these two chips seem quite similar and i cannot seem to find any benchmarks. If anyone knows, or has any information that would be cool.

So I started playing Assassins's Creed Origins a couple of days ago, and I noticed that in the dense cities (that I know of) made the cpu (i7 4770) go up to 100% usage while the gpu (1070) was at 67% so there's a serious bottleneck here. According to alot of forums there shouldn't be a bottleneck between these two. So... is it this game in particular or is it just me? Anyone with the game and a similar rig willing to check it out? I believe I was in "Alexandria" when I noticed it.

1. Budget & Location My budget is dependant on the answer, and in $NZD 2. Aim My aim is to speed up my computer in games. Games being broad as I play a wide range e.g. Wildlands, PubG, Assetto Corsa, Battlefield, NFS, Overwatch, Dying Light so a good mix of GPU speed and texture storage is needed At the moment it is as fast as I need for things like coding and photoshop but is starting to get a tad slow in some of the newer games. 3. Monitors I currently have 2x 1920x1080p 60hz and 1x 1440x900 60hz (but I am thinking of upgrading the smaller one to a 120/144hz curved screen at maybe 2k res that I will use as my main solo gaming monitor) I normally just game on one screen except for Assetto Corsa as driving sims are so much better with tri screen 4. Peripherals none 5. Why are you upgrading? I am starting to no longer be able to run games at 60 fps solid at high settings anymore and I'm wanting to upgrade to a 120/144hz monitor but don't want to have to lower the quality so I'm gonna need to upgrade my graphics card. The only problem is I don't know if the rest of my PC will hold the new graphics card back and if ill need to fit that into my budget as ill either be able to afford a 1080 with nothing else or a 1070 plus the other stuff. Current Specs cpu: Intel i7 4770 (non k yes i know I was stupid back when I got it) mb: Gigabyte Z87-HD3 ram: 8gb Kingston 1600mhz (if I don't have to upgrade everything else and go to ddr4 I will probably upgrade to 16gb ddr3 as my friend will sell me some cheap) gpu: Gigabyte 970 G1 ssd: 2x hdd: 2x So basically my question is will I be able to get away with putting a 1080 in my system or will either my motherboard / CPU hold back its full potential

Me and a friend have found Dell optiplex 9020's with i7 4770s in them (Small form factor case). I was wondering if i can put in a gtx970 and use it as a gaming pc. Is there anything I would have to do to get it to work properly? I live in a Australia and would like to spend most of my budget on the gpu (Not including PC itself). Not interested in looks, if it works it works

So, I figured I'd add another to the ranks of the PC Master Race. My daughter is turning in the next week, and has enjoyed playing Minecraft on my PC, so I decided to mark the occasion by collecting parts and modding a case for her. After her birthday we'll assemble it together. I figured I'd add a little build log for her machine too, seeing as I finally watercooled my own a little while back and I was getting anxious to start another mini project. I'll provide a link below to the PCpartpicker parts list, though I'll warn you much of it is hand-me-down parts, and it's not designed for earth-shattering performance. Just something for homework / 1080p gaming. I already tore down most of the case, as you can tell... this paint job is going to be a tad bright... OK, its borederline obnoxious. She's going to love it. I also snagged a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate (2013) off Kijiji for super cheap, the font was going to be a bit much for a first grader to read, so I swapped the keycaps for my factory Corsair ones off my K70. I also happened to have an eVGA Torq X10 kicking around that I won off an online giveaway like 4 years ago. It should fit the bill!

Hi all, I don't know whether to upgrade either my CPU or GPU. My Current Build: i7 4770 @3.4 boost up to 3.9GHz Asrock b85 Fatal1ty Killer 16GB (2x8GB) G.Skill Aeris 1866MHz MSI Gaming X RX 570 4GB Corsair CX550M Bronze Im a heavy Battlefield player and with the recent release of Battlefield V, I average around 70FPS on LOW at 1080p and the occasional dips to 45-60FPS when things get hectic on 64p servers. What I'm looking for is just a smoother experience, the drops are really noticeable and don't know whether its CPU or GPU based. Both CPU and GPU run at arouns 85 - 100% at the same time. I do know that in singleplayer I can run the game on ULTRA at around the same 70-80FPS. I was thinking of upgrading to an r5 2600 for the CPU because I do like to record all my games and stream every now and then. Also I think the extra cores will be good for Premiere. Or Upgrading my GPU to a 1070 or a Vega 56. My max budget is $600 AUD so I am aware of the complete platform upgrade if I upgrade my CPU Thanks

Does anyone know of any ways to improve performance on locked intel CPU’s? Preferably if they apply to lga1150 and the i7 4770 (non K). I’d love to have a better cpu and not have to try to squeeze every drop of performance I can get out of it but i guess it’s just the way she goes boys. I’ve been a pc gamer for coming on 2 years now but not very well versed on the nitty gritty of overclocking and such. So don’t expect me to know what ratios and blck clocks are or anything lol. Any input will be greatly appreciated. -
I have an Intel i7 4770 non k version cpu. I’ve heard that you can’t unlock a locked cpu as it’s physical and not a software lock. BUT while doing some quick browsing I stumbled upon a Quora thread where someone said they could coat specific pins with electrical tape or nail polish to allow overclocking on their core 2 duo (think that was the cpu he said). Unfortunately I couldn’t find much else about coating pins other than that post. I know there’s been major changes from the core 2 duo days but I wonder if there are still pins that can be coated which will “unlock” your cpu. As anyone who’s seen an lga1150 pin out you know there’s a TON of different pins with (to the novice tech enthusiast) very confusing signal names to ball #’s. I’ve heard that you can use multipliers and such to get a sort of overclock but mixed reviews on its stability and such. ANY information would be EXTREMELY helpful. Believe me if I could buy a better cpu I would but it’s not financially viable right now lol. Not sure if this will help but I have an asus maximus vii hero mobo. Hey guys, I currently have a i5 4670, and I'd like to get a GTX 1080 and a WQHD monitor with 144Hz very soon. But my CPU would bottleneck my system as I heard from some in the forum, so I'm curious if I can and if it would make any sense to get the i7 4770 to get the Frames I need for a 144Hz monitor. And I'm not 100% sure if the i7 would fit into my mainboard (MSI Z87-G43). If this would make sense, how much FPS would I get? Maybe one of you has this setup? :-) Otherwise I would stick with 75Hz. The games I play are Squad, Battlefield, TESO. Thank you in advance!!

Hello friends, I have serious questions concerning high temperatures with my i7 4770. I am living under the roof and it is freaking hot right now (feels like 40+°C [104+°F]). My PC got really noisy so i checked out the Core temperatures with the tool "Core Temp 1.1". All 4 Cores (stock cooler) were between 75°C and 80°C (158-176°F) hot with ~20-30% workload. Now question #1: Is this too hot? As I am writing this thread right now i closed most programms and opened the Computercase. The workload is now 1-10% and the temperature went down to ~45°C (113°F). Now question #2: Would you recommend to take steps against those temperatures or are they just high but still OK? Question #3: Which steps would you take? Some further explanation: I never encountered problems with a lack CPU power. If you say that the CPU will regulate itself good enough that it doesn't take any damage whatsoever I am fine with how the system works. The case is a very closed case with only 1 case-cooler and few air-fences (or whatever you call them, the windows where the air gets suckedinto the case) Thank you for your lovely replies in advance, noobwannabot PS: Just in case you got any decease while reading my english, just note that english is not my first language and that I am melting right now, i cant think correctly it is so hot!

I own a i5 4590 and I got a deal to buy a i7 4770 for $70(AUS) or $50(US) is it worth it to buying and upgrading. I do light editing and gaming on my PC.

I've been having issues with windows 8.1 where peak, alt+tab, and irfanview will break for a whiel then start working again at random. I've heard the issue can be caused by a bad USB port and two of the USB 3 ports on the back of my Asus Z97-Pro are borked so I figure that might have something to do with it plus it gives me an excuse to get a motherboard that fits my computer's black and red theme. It needs to support SLI and it needs to have M.2. I've narrowed it down to these two boards, which should I get? For about the same price of around $300 CAD (give or take $20 depending on sales and taxes) which CPU would offer more performance? A new and unlocked 4690k that can be overclocked or a used and locked i7 4770 that I saw on my local classifieds? I would assume that if I were only gaming that the 4690k would pull ahead when OCed compared to the locked 3.4GHz on the i7 4770. But I would think that the i7 would pull ahead in multi-threaded applications like video editing and stuff with its extra 4 threads with hyper threading. These are assumptions so correct me if I'm wrong but which CPU would you take for the same price? Cooling could also play a factor in this since you'd also have to spend a little more on an after market cooler to OC the 4690k and (God forbid) leave the stock intel cooler in the i7 4770 but I wanted to get an AIO for either CPU I get to get a cleaner look in my case.

Intel i7 4770 is running at high temps 55 C. Im only runing at 2% max load but cpu temps are in the 50s C and corsair h100i is flashing red while fans are running at full speed non stop. I'm running windows 8.1 Thanks
