Hello All, My i5 6600k temp idles around 44° C to 49° C and with load (playing game-cs go, using video editing tool-filmora) it shoots to 100° C within 30 seconds. Also when I did a stress test with intel extreme tuning utility same thing 30 seconds into the test it shoots to 100°C. Also my CPU usage idles at 1-5% while 100% under the same load as above. After a lot of research I finally figured that I might need to change my thermal paste and I have ordered it. As I am waiting for it I would like to know what are the other optimizations that I could do within my BIOS and windows setting to reduce this extreme temperature and usage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. *background apps while doing the test: Nvidia graphics software, AI suite 3 (asus motherboard software), Bitdefender (Total Security software), Volume Controller, My Specs: CPU: Intel i5 6600k 3.5 Ghz - currently running at base clock ------ Motherboard: Asus z170 pro gaming ---------------- RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200Mhz RGB Series Memory - F43200C16D16GTZR - AMP enabled ------ GPU: Zotac RTX 2060 Super 8 GB ------ PSU: Corsair RM1000X ------ CPU Cooler: CM liquid lite 120 --------------- Storage: ---------- Primary: Samsung Evo 850 Plus 250GB M.2 Nvme (PCIE) Other: Samsung Evo 850 250GB SSD Other: Samsung Evo 850 1TB SSD ======================== Monitor: Benq XL2430T ---------- Mid Tower: NZXT Noctis 450 CPU-Z- Image: CPU-Z Info Speccy Image: Speccy Info Extreme Tuning Utility: Info (cpu fan at full speed while stress test) AIDA System Stability Test: Info (cpu fan at full speed while stress test) AIDA Statistics after test: Info

Hi there. So yesterday I hit my CPU's limit. I was playing AC Odyssey and I was monitoring the resources and I found out my Graphic Card was only 80% in use and CPU was 100% which means the CPU is bottelnecking my GPU. I'm not sure though, the GPU itself is weak too and the resolution was 1600*900 and I Overclocked the GPU high enough to get boost but there was no boost at all in the game, not even a single frame but in benchmark there was a few fps boost. So I suspect the CPU. So since my Mother Board is not meant for Overclocking I was looking for other ways to boost CPU's performance to get more GPU performance. Does anyone have any idea how I can boost CPU frequency or performance or anything at all? (Actually there is this "increasing the resolution will reduce the CPU's pressure" theory but I can't do that since the Display's limit is 1600*900.) Is there any way to boost it from bios? Thanks.

Hi 3 years ago I decided to build my own computer. With some help I did good and it runs great. But I have a feeling that I want to upgrade in the near future. I have: CPU: i5 6600k CPU cooler: Mastercooler hyper 212 evo GPU: evga gtx 1060 3gb PSU: Be quiet! pure power 9 500w 80+ silver Motherboard. Msi z170a pc mate RAM: corsari 2x8 gb 3200 mhz and 2 ssd... I have thought of getting a rx 5700xt because it is very popular and many recommend it. But it cost 5000 kr (Swedish money) which is 500 dollars. So instead of upgrading my cpu to for example Ryzen 5 3600 with a new motherboard (or something else that is better for me). I want to just upgrading my GPU (and PSU ofc). But can I? Are my 6600k capable of handling the 5700xt or is it too weak. I read on a site that my cpu will degrease my gpu performance with 20%. Idk if that is false or true. Or doesn't it matter (I'm a noobie that's why I ask). And remember that in Sweden it is much more expensive than in USA or UK. And im not rich. So if it works with just 5700 xt and not getting a new cpu I would be very happy. I want to play at 1080p, use 2 monitors and I will mostly play fps like Warzone or other random games. I want my computer to hold for future games. I would really appreciate advices or anything you can tell me. Thanks in advance!

should i buy an i5 6600k or i5 7500 for gaming,considering that 6600k is a bit more expensive than the 7500

I could build this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/RnLTNN , and upgrade to a locked i7, or this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/JH2CtJ to upgrade to a unlocked i5 and a hyper 212 Evo (both upgrades in min a year). I could go with z170 and i3 6100 and h212 Evo with cheaper case and stuff and do the Skylake non k overclock thing I guess and upgrade to an i5 6600k but which is best?

Is a zx70 motherboard and a k SKU i5 or I7 and a good cooler (Cryorig H7, Hyper 212 Evo etc) worth it. I'll be buying a pentium , a z270 board and a gtx 1060 or rx 480 (6/8gb), in order to be able to upgrade to and utilize a K SKU CPU with a cooler, in a year or so. Would i be better off saving money on the motherboard by £40 and buying an ssd, more ram, a better gpu, a nicer case, or cutting my spending down?

When I set mobo defaults, my mobo (ASUS Z170-A) auto overclocks my Skylake Intel i5 6600k to 4.4 ghz, and the voltage to something automatic. Why is this happening? Why doesnt it run at stock 3.5 ghz? And stock voltage? Why?

Hi all I am looking at building a £800 gaming rig and have found that an new i7 4770/4790 is about the same price as a new i5 (I know the i5 supports ddr 4 and the i7 supports ddr 3 but this is not a major consideration for me) I would be interested to know which is superior.

Hello Overclockers. I have an issue with my overclocking and have run into a problem. I have seen other threads which have been solved but their solutions has not worked with mine. Well, I have an i5 6600k cooled by an evo 212. With the core volts set to 1.2 it is stable at 4,2Ghz. I can also make it run stable at 4.3Ghz if I increase to 1.24 volts. If I go for 4.4Ghz I need to increase voltage to 1.28 and this is here the odd thing starts. The multiplier starts fluctuating between 44 and 42 (effectively 4.4 and 4.2ghz). If I further increase voltage to 1.30 the fluctuation increases to be between 44 and 38. If I dial back the overclock to 4.3Ghz and let the volts be at 1.28 it is still unstable and fluctuates between 43 and 42. I have tried disabling all kinds of power saving functions, speedstep, etc. I have also made sure that no power settings in windows has been enabled. The temperatures are max 62 degrees, so I don't imagine it is thermal throttling. The TDP at 95w, only about 82 watts are used, so I don't imagine that is the issue either. The problem seem to occur independently of the frequency but solely dependent on the voltage. I am satisfied with my 4.3ghz overclock, but I am simply curious to learn what is happening:).

It seems that every 5 minutes (on windows 10 at least) my CPU (i5 6600K overclocked to 4.4 GHz) will spike up to anywhere from 30% - 80% usage when IDLE! when I open task manager I find that 'Service Host: Local System' and others of similar names have taken nearly all CPU resources. So I stop the process in task manager only to have my system spike back up to 30% - 80% all because of 'Service Host: Local System'. I cannot figure out how to stop the process without manually but temporarily stopping it. PLEASE HELP!!

I guess nothing ever looks as good as it does in promo pictures. I am very happy with the end result. Between the white case (or lack thereof), and black components, I also have my mouse, keyboard, and Mousepad RGBs doing a Fire and Ice theme. Red is my favorite color, and I know how overused Red & Black is in the PC world, so I tired to not do a complete Red/Black color palette.

Well well well, aren't I in a fun situation. That sentence included a lot of sarcasm. I got an i5 6600k of ebay, slapped a brand new deepcool gammaxx cooler on it and loaded up intel extreme burn test. Then I hit 100 degrees celcius on my cpu. To my knowledge the previous owner of this used i5 6600k did not send it to me overclocked. My question is, is this healthy, if not how can I check to see if the cpu is overclocked, and if it isn't, am I just screwed, or can a new cpu cooler or a water cooler fix this. Thanks! Note: My case is a rosewill callenger S with two stock fan in the front and one stock in the back. It is sitting under my desk.

So I can currently choose between an i5 6600k for 120€ or an i7 6700k for 180€ which one should I choose? Ryzen is not an Option, they don't have any good mini ITX boards. I would use it for gaming mostly Thanks for reading ;D

1. Budget & Location ~Budget; 33600 ARS (without monitor) ~Location; Argentina 2. Aim Gaming and Programing 3. Monitors I want to use 2 or 3 monitors in the future, for the moment i was thinking in getting a 22 LED LG 22MP55 IPS 4. Peripherals i have Windows 10 and im not looking to upgrade my periphericals for the moment 5. My Build CPU: INTEL CORE I5 6600K SKYLAKE S1151 (5500 ARS) CPU Cooler: WATER COOLER CAPTAIN 240 DEEP COOL (2900 ARS) Motherboard: GIGABYTE 1151 GA-Z170X- GAMING 5 DDR4 (4600 ARS) Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GTX 1070 SC 8GB DDR5 (11800 ARS) Memory: DDR4 16GB 3200MHZ CORSAIR VENGEANCE 2X8 LED (2800 ARS) Storage: SSD KINGSTON 240GB UV400 (2000 ARS) Storage: 500 gb (the one that im using now, im not looking to change it) Case: THERMALTAKE VERSA H35 OR THERMALTAKE CORE V31 (1900 ARS) Power Supply: EVGA 600W 80 PLUS (2100 ARS) My questions: - This pc would be able to keep up over the years? (at least 10 years) - The power suply will be enough? even if i do overclocking? - Is the ram that i pick for the build good? i just put that mostly for the Leds, i want 16 gb (2x8) - There is really need of putting water cooling in the build? I would like it to be silent, and if i do overclocking i dont wanna have high temperatures - Wich case should i pick? The versa or the core? why? - Theres is much difference between the motherboard Gaming 5 and Gaming 3? is it worth the gaming 5 over the gaming 3? Im going to buy all of this things here: http://venexcomputacion.com Is the only place in my city that have variety and low prices compared to the other stores. Thanks for your time

Hey Guys/ Girls, I'm looking at buying a Intel i5-6600k and was wondering if it came with a master code for Intel's software starter pack. Addition to that has anyone recently purchased an eligible CPU and redeemed the software starter pack, I'm curious as to what it includes. Thanks Joseph

Hi! Im looking for tips of some sort for my first pc build or a gaming setup. Im aiming for 1440p max settings gaming at well over 60 frames per second. I do know that recent high end games will wont be 60fps at max settings but as long as most of the games will work over 60fps. I will be buying a 144hz monitor bit later for fps games like cs go. And I have 650watt psu for hoping that I can fit another gtx1070 in there if needed later too. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/7pbfm8 I have not bought this pc yet. Im looking to buy it with these parts for now. It will be my first selfbuild pc so there can be some mistakes even thought I tried to look it over and check that everything works. Note: I have a mouse already and gaming headset. And I will be overclocking both cpu and gpu.

Hi, i'm writing from Argentina, well, as the title says I'm about to build my first high end gaming pc, the idea is to build something capable of VR gaming so i'm going for an Asus GTX 1070 Strix and a 2TB hard drive for sure. I'm not sure about the motherboard, I'm thinking in getting a Gigabyte z170x gaming 5 and a SSD, or go with an Asus Maximus VIII Hero (does the better audio and LAN worths it?) and no SSD for now. With the CPU i'm sticking with an i5 6500, or maybe a 6600k? What do you think? around U$80 difference between them PSU, i found a XFX pro XXX 650W in good price so i'm going for it Ram, 2x8gb 2666mhz avexir, as far as I know, more than 2666 is worthless, right? Well, those are my doubts so i'm open for suggestions, thanks for reading and sorry for the english!

Hey all! Been lurking forums for a while and decided to join a few back. Just built my first PC not too long ago and wanted to show it off! I had been rocking a laptop for college, a dinky Lenovo Yoga 2 13, and while I could play League of Legends just okay, the little thing just didn't like my taste in games. I knew I wanted a beautiful custom built PC that could handle 1080p so I began researching. Few guides I read said to start with a case and go from there, so I did. I knew I wanted to go with a mini ITX mobo and after some digging I went with the Phanteks Enthoo Evolve ITX. I don't like flashy and this guy was simple enough with a spacious window. From there it was pretty straight forward. I could only find a few builds in the Evolve ITX online so I wanted to see what I could do with it. I got an M.2 Samsung 850 SSD to reduce cables, though I know it doesn't have the full PCIe speeds. I went with an AIO cooler so I could open up the view in the window, since the case has limited space inside. The red/black theme was easy to build for so I went for it (I know it's basic). Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 Mobo Intel Core i5 6600K CPU Corsair h100i v2 AIO cooler Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X 6G GPU Corsair CX550M PSU Samsung 850 Evo 250GB M.2 SSD Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX Case Phanteks PWM Fan Hub 3X Corsair AF140 Red LED Fans I liked it at first but the hose lines on the AIO were bent awkwardly and I lost my space for the hard drive I'm going to throw in soon. I ended up top mounting the radiator like everyone else to open up the drive bays again and so I could improve the LED lighting. Initially I was hoping that 3 red corsair AF140 fans would be bright enough, but I was disappointed with the lackluster lumens. So I piked up a cablemod 30cm red strip and stuck it up behind on the mounting rack. To note, I was very pleased with how well the radiator looks with the window panel on, as the window width just about matches that of the radiator. I also did a little cable cleanup and addressed my GPU sag. I had seated it with the case upright to start and it was keeling over like my late grandfather, making me concerned for it's health. Reseating the massive MSI GPU with the case on it's side, along with some support from the 4pin cable did the trick. Much better! I built a lot towards aesthetic a lot here. I could've got a much more powerful system for the same price, but I like pretty things so I'm happy with her. I felt the GTX 1060 would be good enough since I'm only gaming at 1080p, which opened up some budget for the good looks. Sometime next summer I'll look to upgrade to a Kaby Lake i7 (hoping my mobo will have support then) and possibly a GTX 1080 when I get the funds.

And do they perform different in terms of tearing, etc (please answer only if you tested it for yourself or have reliable sources) Rx 480 seem to perform better with undervolting and OC. Will this close the gap between 1060/480? Is higher refresh rate or resolution the way to go (just gaming; no content creation)
