As you can see on the Core Temp app, when its in heavier use the speed goes up to 3700 mhz, however I know the cpu has a max speed of 3.3 ghz or 3300 mhz. Whenever its idling its at 800 because I'm on Balanced power settings. I tried to set the max speed in power settings to 3300 but it still exceeds the normal speeds. I was wondering if its on boost but can't seem to find it in BIOS either. It doesn't seem to be overheating, like when I'm playing Minecraft, the max temperatures reach 55 at most, but I want to set the speed to 3300. Is there a way to do it?

So, basically, the title: I have an i5 on my z97 pc mate motherboard and lately, I have been struggling to keep stable 60 fps on battlefield one. I think the CPU is to blame: The graphics card is a GTX 970 and I see the CPU at very high usage while playing. Sometimes, every some seconds, I notice a very brief stutter: Very small, and the game experience is still good at high 50's on an ultrawide monitor at 1080p, but I was wondering if shifting to a 4770k model would be worth it. I came across a second hand offer: The 4770k, first hand, where I live is 400 euro on amazon. This guy sells it for 250 with the original fan (not plannin OC'ing just yet) and I calculate I can sell my 4590 for 150 more or less.... I think at some point, I will have to upgrade my CPU but, what do you guys think? Is this a good deal? Should I go for another different CPU, perhaps? Is the GPU to blame for the frame drops? Thanks! EDIT: The change has been made!!! I performed a couple benchmarks a day before the change, this were the results: i5 4590: Userbenchmark: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/2651761 Passmark: http://www.passmark.com/baselines/V9/display.php?id=76071763650 (4808, of which, cpu scored: 7944) i7 4779k (non OC'd): Userbenchmark: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/2659768 Passmark: http://www.passmark.com/baselines/V9/display.php?id=76136242262 (5264, of which, cpu scored: 10094) You can make your conclusions - even though these tests must be interpreted with a grain of salt, I see a 20-ish per cent improvement on the CU score, now, I'll have to see how it performs on real life tasks.

hey guys! a newbie on this forum and a newbie on pc in general. so forgive me if i ask a stupid question. well after reading the "before you post" thread i'll give this a go. i live in jakarta, indonesia. prices for computer parts arent cheap without big online shops like amazon or newegg to buy from. ( u can buy from it but the shipping bill is gonna cost u a left nut if you were to ship them from the states. so parts are quite limited to shop selling limited quantities and trustworthy genuine parts are a threat too. i mostly use this computer for watching linus on youtube, news, netflix and casual gaming. i run a 32" samsung monitor. i have: i3 4310 cpu socket 1150 asrock h85m-hds mobo vgen ddr3 2x 4gb ram r7 260 gpu windows 10 64bit sliverstone sst-st50f-es 500w psu the question is that i was thinking of upgrading my cpu to a i5 4590 and a gtx 1050ti just wondering since buliding a pc with a budget is always fun( warning sacasm alert) which should i upgrade first? and maybe perhaps a comment of the current overall bulid itself? is my current psu able to withstand the upgrade? my target is to able to play current popular games like overwatch, battleground player unknown etc and a higher "quality of life" whenever i use my pc that utilise my current native monitor resolution of 1920x1080 60hz by the by, i have a mid tower case and think of getting the zotec 1050ti single fan 4g card as with the current case i dont think i'll be able to run dual fans (length wise) thanks for sparing ur time and reading this! peace!

So I found this deal for a pretty sick 1080Ti card (Aorus Xtreme 1080Ti) for around $450, what I'm concerned about is that my pc currently has an i5 4590, which may bottleneck a powerful GPU as the 1080Ti, but the thing is can I at least hit 60FPS at 1080p with this card or will that be an issue as well?

I'm planning on upgrading my rig with these specs: i5 4590 GTX 970 12 GB DDR3 ASRock H79M ITX mobo 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD 850 watt PSU I'm planning on upgrading the GPU to an RTX 2060 (since this seems to be the best card within my budget). Should I do this, or should I upgrade my CPU (where I'll then have to get a new mobo and ram). Maybe even get a new CPU and GPU? I have a budget of $900 USD.

Here is my current build: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Qnm7XP CPU: Intel - Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($351.69 @ Newegg Marketplace) CPU Cooler: Deepcool - GAMMAXX 300 55.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($14.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus - B85M-G Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Memory: Kingston - HyperX FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($79.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Kingston - HyperX FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($79.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($89.98 @ Amazon) Storage: Toshiba - P300 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($43.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 3GB Dual Video Card ($289.99 @ Amazon) Case: Cooler Master - K350 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Im not sure, cooler master 550w and probably the worst quality ever. Total: $950.41 I know it has stupid decision(cough... power supply cough...) but i bought it prebuilt( i know i know) because it had an awesome price, it had only 1 8gb stick and a r9 270x but i upgraded those. So my question is there a way or point in upgrading this PC or i should wait and buy a new one? My problems with upgrading is somewhat the power supply even tho i have good experince with it, i know for sure it's one of the cheapest you can get. But my biggest problem is the CPU/GPU combo if i get a new gpu in half the games( cpu heavy) i won't get anything, if i get a i7 4790k(it's really expensive here, over the 8700k even used is almost the same as a new 8700k) then i won't get anything in gpu heavy games and i play both cpu and gpu heavy games. Opinions? Thanks and have a nice day

Hey guys, Somewhat recently i bought a 144hz monitor and my current setup can't really provide 144fps which i would like. Current setup: CPU: i5 4590 GPU: gtx 1060 3gb(asus variant, could be overclocked somewhat if i was into it) RAM: 16gb ddr3 @1600mhz Motherboard: Asus b85m-g PSU: 650W (by coolermaster) So im thinking about getting a gtx 1080, but i was thinking about how badly would my cpu bottleneck it? And the thing is if i wanted to get a new cpu it would cost me lot for sure, using current pricing in the country i live(hungary) it would cost me the 210%-240%of the price of the gtx 1080(decent motherboard, i7 7700k or 8700k, 16gb dd4 ram). Other things i considered going for a new i5 but then it still about 180%-200% of the price and if i spend that much i would like it to be somewhat futureproof(8700k with 6cores seems to be that). I also considered a new cpu with the same socket(lga 1150) but i couldn't find any 4770/4770k on the market but i found i7 4790k(even new) but without overclocking(i couldn't with this motherboard) it wouldn't be such an upgrade(and they cost the same as the 7700k). So im curious if it even worth it to buy the 1080 or almost useless because of my cpu i wouldn't get an increase in fps(from my research i should get decent inprovement and not too much bottleneck, only in some games) Games i play: Rocket league(main game), cs:go(these 2run over 144fps constant) ARK(runs poorly),Battlefront 2(120fps but only on very low), and pubg(oh boi, it's about 80fps on very low after the patch, but it was way under 60),and some fortnite sometimes(med 80-100fps). Basically online pvp games where fps matters a lot(but also would be nice if i could play them on high at least) So what's your opinion on it? TL;DR: i have an i5 4590 and gtx 1060(3gb) and i want to get a 1080, and if i want a new cpu it's basically a new pc and the cost is way too much. Games i care about: ARK,SW:bf2,PUBG,fortnite. PS.: My english needs some improvements, if you find something stupid just tell me. Have a nice day and thanks.

I was just wondering what's the performance difference between an i5 4590 and i5 6600k

Hello techies, It's been a while since I have put interest in solving this issue, since I have a replacement CPU + Mobo configuration, but since it's quite a bit more powerful and has a good value, I'd like to look in to it once more together. Specs: CPU: i5 4590 Mobo: Asrock B85M Pro3 RAM: 2x2GB RAM from OEM PC that has never failed me! Storage: Asrock SP900 128GB SSD GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 660 PSU: XFX 430W 80+ Bronze (and in tier 2 of Tomshardware PSU tier list 2) The Issue: The CPU (i5 4590) can't run Java programs, if I launch a Java application with Java installed, it will give a mini-dump-not-enabled error, along with an always different error code. Example Java heap dump (the "Problematic frame" error displays a different error each time): http://pastebin.com/6d4ZwZi4 What I've tried so far: - I tested a VERY simular CPU - the i5 4690K (which is basically an overclocked, unlocked i5 4590) - which worked fine. My friend (owner of the i5 4690K) said it might be a Java memory allocation error. - Multiple times of re-installing Windows 10 Pro (with and without network access) - iGPU testing instead of dedicated GPU (GTX 660) - Refitting connectors - Using different storage device - More RAM (8GB of Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer) * - Followed multiple tutorials on how to enable mini-dumps If you need any other information about the issue, please inform me. Hope you can help out, ReThorb_ * means EDITED

So, i had to reapply thermal paste to my CPU (pea size) because i thought in did it wrong the first. I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo with Arctic Silver 5 (I5 4590). When i did it, it was doing good. Idle temp was around 30 degrees C. Now when im checking, its goes to like 37-41 degrees Celsius. I checked in Bios, Real Temp, etc. I just cleaned my pc and made sure it was tight. Whats wrong?!

So heres what happened. I need to RMA a Graphics Card, so i took it out of my PC and while i was doing that, i reapplied thermal paste on my CPU because i thought i might as well do it at that time. So i did and got everything running. So today, i wanted to see what the Temps would be if CPU would be at 90-100% usage. I installed Prime95 and did some testing, when i pulled up task manager, it said it went from like 5% to 24%. so i tried again, same thing. And the Temps didnt even really go up or down. So i installed Intel Burn Test, SAME THING! It only goes up to 24% at 700Mhz. Whats wrong? How can i fix this? Is this maybe why my games were running low and it wasnt my GPU?!?! Is there a way to see if my CPU is failing? PLEASE HELP!!! (I5 4590 3.3Ghz Quad Core) Thanks

Hello, I am close to buying a mobo for my second-hand i5 4590. I saw on PCPP that the B85 chipset 'may' need a BIOS update prior to using the board with the CPU. MOBO: Asrock B85 Pro3 M-ATX CPU: i5 4590 Certain places say b85 chipsets will need to be updated, some don't.. Im looking for a definitive answer :-D Hope you can help! - ReThorb_ P.S. Is the Troubleshooting section the correct place for this? 'Cuz I haven't bought the mobo yet and i'm currently not dealing with any issues...

i5 4590 vs GTX 960 4GB Bottleneck Fallout 4
Jxplore posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I run the test to check my rigs (here = http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=5013&game=Fallout%204#systemrequirements) today and what I found.. It's recommend me to downgrade the cpu to Xeon E5 People say i5 4xxx & GTX 960 not bottleneck What should I do? Do I need change the CPU/GPU or just lower the game settings? I'm running the game at 1080p Thanks -

Hello! I will be getting a new cpu and mobo (4590 and h97 pro4 ). As you can guess I won't be overclocking, but I still don't want my cpu to be cooled by the stock fan, since I don't want it to be very loud when heat goes up... I am not looking for anything too expensive or big, note it must have a maximum height of 158mm, because my Antec GX 505 case doesn't support more... That is why I excluded the Hyper 212 EVO...The budget is around 30-50€. P.S. If it changes anything I live in EU ( notice the € ^^), so stuff is more expensive... Sorry for the long text
