I've bought this cheapish motherboard bundle off ebay which includes: H81i motherboard, i5-4460, 4gb of ram and a 240gb ssd. It comes with a cheap aftermarket cpu cooler and after some research its rated at 73w cooling capacity. From the intel website it says the i5-4460 has a 84w tdp. Does this mean the cooler will be incapable of cooler my cpu? I'm also putting it an xbox 360 with limited ventilation so I'm guessing this will not be enough cooler power. Im not thinking of overclocking the CPU and might even undervolt it in the future if I plan on adding a low profile graphics card. Thanks for any help! Edit: is the cooling capacity directly of a cooler linked to the TDP of a cpu?

Hi everyone, I really need your assistance. I came upon a PC the specs are the Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3V it has an Intel i5-4460 processor, and it has the newest bios I believe. The issue is as of recent. I cannot add any PCI-e cards aside from the graphics card. I'm using a Palit GeForce GTX 1060 3GB. However, I am not certain that it's the adding of the PCIe cards that causes an issue or the board. I don't think there is something wrong with the board only because it hasn't been removed or reinstalled to cause an issue that way. But this is what it does... I'm currently on this PC requesting your help. If I was to restart the PC it will boot just fine. however, If I shutdown the PC and then turn it on. It powers up, usually a few seconds later it reboots itself all with nothing on the monitor, then once it restarts itself, I will sit with nothing on the screen then it may restart again, this time eventually showing the Gigabyte Dual Bios UEFI type screen, but it only shows the label Gigabyte Dual Bios and then restarts itself. it will do this a few times until the Gigabyte Dual Bios screen comes back up but now says the bios has been reset and has the 3 options one to load defaults 2 to load optimal defaults and 3 enter bios. after which the PC will boot, oh and when you enter the bios nothing has changed the settings are still what they were. no reset no defaults, and I've chosen to reset to defaults etc. and then re customizing them to what I need. Please any help would be appreciated. And replacement of board is not in the budget of $0 The PC has been up and running for almost 2 days now. I haven't restarted or rebooted it. As I'm using this PC to make copies of my HDD from another PC that has had an NVME SSD failure. This PC didn't have any issues until I put the NVME to PCIe card into the system at which it saw it and would try to boot from it but would return the same issue as the other PC had when trying to boot from it, which made a Windows blue screen come up saying it couldn't access the drive. I am not using that ATM and all the boot up issuses are all with using SATA SSD's Please help all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hello guys! I've been following LinusTechTips forums for a long time and finally decided to register. Thank you for all the help during the years I want to ask some general questions as it seems I'm not so good with understanding computers the way I though I was I was a PC "master race" member my whole life. But at some point I stopped care. (maybe I got old, I don't know). So my PC build is quite old, 2014 old to be exact (except the GPU that a friend of mine gave me) :D Last year I bought PS4 for some cheap price and I just cannot understand how is it possible for the black box to give me better experience in gaming. (I don't want this feeling, I was a PS4 rebel ffs). Yesterday, I wasn't able to sleep of hating this fact. So I decided to make a profile here with you so I can cry on your shoulder. My PC has the following specs: h97 anniversary motherboard i5 4460 + some cheap cooled - blizzard t2 I think. RX480 (8GB) 16 gb ddr 3 memory - a-data 1600mhz 700W PSU - cooler master master b700w ssd 120 gm Kingston and some hdds My first question is: Is my CPU bottle-necking the GPU? Is not possible for this GPU to be so pathetic. Like, my computer tends to restart when I try to play 3d action game: cod warzone on low-mid graphics (1080p). Some guys on youtube are having the same specs and showing way better results. I have latest win10, latest radeon drivers. 20.2 or so, new thermo-paste, etc, but my general gaming experience is awful (also 1080 editing is bad). At the same time, the ps black box is showing beautiful views on god of war, mk11, and this just feels strange to me. I believe the gpu's price was kinda same as the whole ps4 when released. I cannot withstand the fact, I need 1000 euro PC to fight 250 euro plastic box. My second question is: If I decide to upgrade to r5 3600x should I change the GPU? I like editing a lot and I think of this exact Linus build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_HKRUPN1Mk Other question: Should I safe for 3700x (r7)? I could use the price difference for a better monitor but I don't want to sacrifice performance a lot. At this point I'm afraid to upgrade, because just maybe, the ps4 will continue giving me better experience than r5 3600x and I will really hate this. Thank you for letting me cry on your shoulder. Be safe guys!

I want to buy a used pc for gaming and if i could stream on it would be nice. I got two options and trying to see if is worth the value. I would greatly apreciate your feedback and recommendations. The big part of my question as well is if it is worth it the i7-3770 with the extra threard being a gen older or the i5-4460 would be enough. Also i'm thinking of paring them with a 1650 super. Thanks in advance. Hello guys! Today i just got mad at my system performance and i want to solve it. I have i5 4460 and Gtx 1070FE and from what i read, the gtx may bottleneck a little bit in an cpu intensive games. But when i switched from GTX970 to GTX1070 i dont see any difference in GTAV (i know is highly cpu intensive but still). I must have everything on medium/high to run at 50-60fps (VSync off) Iam thinking of getting (used) i7 4790 and sell the i5 i have. Will it really help a lot? I dont want to spend more money just to gain +10fps and it will be still laggy. I mean, is that i5 4460 really that bad? it performs really poorly. Iam gaming only on single monitor 1080p Thank you for your advice My PC Specs from profile so you dont have to open another window. Should I go with a used i7 4770 for £165 and a 4gb RX 480, or a i5 4430 with more ram/ better motherboard/ 8gb 480, i5 4460 with better motherboard,8gb 480 or i5 6400 with 8gb 480. i could wait a bit with the 4470 and get a dirt cheap gtx 1060 6gb aswell. Which will give better performance in games? I dont care much about upgradability, im hoping to keep these cpus for atleast 3 years.

Hi. I am building a computer for a friend and i was wondering if a i5 4460 would bottleneck a 1060? If so please provide some cheaper/better options.

Hi guys, first topic that i've made so please go easy on me. i currently have a gtx 950, a core i5 4460, and 12gb of ddr3 ram and i don't get a lot of fps in the new, big games. that why i want to upgrade to a amd rx480, because i think that's the problem, but i'm not sure if my cpu or my ram will greatly bottleneck my graphics card. do you know if it will bottleneck and/or do you recommend getting something else first?

So my cousin has a problem with his Gtx 980, i5 4460 and gta 5 (online). He plays on 1080p with ultra settings and gets frequent framerate dips and sometimes constant framerates below 60. Whats suspicious about this is that he has both of his parts from me and I used them before for 1440p and i saw no or very very rare dips below 60 on the same settings. Rest of his specs: z97 gigabyte, 8 gb ddr3 1600 ram, 500w corsair cx, 1tb wd hdd. I personally think that it is due to a driver problem because every other game runs fine. I know that gta is a cpu intensive game but only one step down in resolution shouldn't result in a cpu usage of 100%. Thank you for your ideas

Hey guys how's it going. It's been a while since I posted anything on LTT and I've kinda been taking a break from PC stuff like new hardware and such and I want to start getting up to date again. Anyways recently I've found out about the new game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and it looks like lots of fun. However I'm kind of worried that it might run poorly on my PC. I currently have an i5-4460 CPU and an R9 280X GPU. Will I be able to run the game at 1080p 50-60 fps in its current state? Or is it best till I wait for an update that fixes optimisation?

So I recently upgraded from a gtx 970 to a gtx 1070, and I noticed that my fps either did not increase, sometimes a little, and sometimes decreased! Especially in games like gta 5 my fps is on, sometimes below 60 fps. I also noticed that my cpu usage is sometimes on 100%. I was wondering if my i5 4460 is bottlenecking my gtx 1070, and if so, what new cpu I should get. Full spec list: intel core I5 4460 @3.2 ghz msi geforce gtx 1070 8g Kingston HyperX FURY Black 16GB @1866 mhz msi h97 pc mate mobo windows 10 anniversary edition cooler master 700 watt psu I don't really want to upgrade my pc again, because I'm pretty short on money and I want to save money for my drivers license Is my current cpu really bottlenecking my pc or is it just grand theft auto 5 which is just hard to run?

So I recently got a msi gtx 1070 8g, and I noticed my fps is pretty low. My gtx 970 caught fire but I still had warranty so now I have a 1070. In games like Grand theft auto 5 I noticed my fps was below 60 sometimes. Some forums said that grand theft auto 5 is pretty cpu intensive so my cpu bottlenecks the whole thing, while other forums said that the i5 4460 should work fine. I did not overclock anything and installed all newest drivers. any idea what could be the problem? is it really my cpu or is something else wrong? full specs: intel core I5 4460 @3.2 ghz msi geforce gtx 1070 8g Kingston HyperX FURY Black 16GB @1866 mhz msi h97 pc mate mobo windows 10 anniversary edition cooler master 700 watt psu

Hi, I was just wondering, would there be a bottleneck if I put an i5 4460 and a gtx 1070 together? And if so, would it be a huge bottleneck?

PC power cycles the moment it's turned on, and continues to do so until PSU is powered down. I just started a new build and am recycling old parts. The PSU and RAM are confirmed working. Hello Right know I got a amd x4 750k paired with a r9 270, but i am looking for a cpu upgrade, because it feels like the cpu lacks behind I've looked at the pentium g4560, motherboard and ddr4 ram for about 280$ or the I5 4460 and a motherboard for the same price. What would be the best to get? The 4460 i a little bit more powerful, but is a little old. I mostly do graphic design in illustrator and inDesign, and a bit of gaming (Overwatch, Witcher 3 etc.) I hope you can help me chose Have a good day

I had a i7 4970k at 4.5ghz and 1.216 vcore, never had it close to use all power when surfing. multitasking, watching twich, facebook, cam chat (only watching) I know an i7 4790k is a very fast cpu only surpassed by server cpus and 6 core i7 cpu's I wanted to try amd, i have never had a an amd cpu, got a good offer on my cpu, found out after a lot of videos and forums, i would get alot worse gaming performance with a fx 6300 then a i5 haswell because of single core performance (have a socket 1150 mb and would be a bit expensive going for ddr4 and skylake) with a gtx 1060 6gb and my 3440x1440 100hz monitor (not playing the latest games or wanting max graphics settings, just as high as possible) I found out my favorit store that alows me to buy much later than all the other danish stores,(they will still sent it the same day and i will get it the next day), only had a couple of haswell refresh cpu's I5 4460 and i5 4690k the i5 4460 kost 1338 of my currency and the i5 4690k cost about 40% more 1965, thought i will save som money and for the money i save on the cpu i would opgrade from 8 to 16 gb ram, 3.2 ghz and turbo 3.4 is enough, i mean for gaming they are rated in tier 1 Cpu hierarchy It's not the slowest i5 haswell cpu it performs in the middel comparing i5 4430 to i5 4690k, lowest passmark score is i5 4570te 3433 and highest is i5 4690k with 7687 an i5 4460 scores 6599 (better the all of the first i7 800 cpu's) Noctua nh-d15 is running at 350 rpm and to my surprice it never goes higher, even with intelburn test maximum and prime 95 (not at the same time) temps never went close to 60 degress (celsius) a normal benchmark it's no more then around 40 degresse (100% load) Had a lot going on tv, twitch, cam chat, pc froze and i had to reboot using the reset button on my pc, thought omg i need to turn of turbo and let it run 3.4 ghz all the time Oced it to 3.4ghz instead of 3.2ghz and turbo 3.4ghz, cinebench r15 cpu score 505 and single core 133, it did get a slightly higher score at 3.4ghz aida 64 cpu queen score almost 30000 ram 34000 I guess the other i5 cpu's are only a bit faster with 3,5/3.9 ghz as the fastest speed from an i5 4690 and the k version My mb is a asus vii ranger z97 and i have 2x4gb g skill trident x 2400mhz cl 10 ram, i choose to use the money i saved on the cpu to upgrade to 2x8gb kingston savage 2400mhz cl 11 ram (i have a noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler so i didn't want to buy another pair of g skill ram an use it without the fins, since i wouldn't like to change the possition of the fans to make sure i have enough space for another pair of ram) Should i try to see if i can get a faster cpu or is it just a waste on money if i don't spent 40% more on a i5 4690k cpu and oc it to atleast 4.0 ghz? My mb has an option to oc the cpu to 3.535ghz (something like that) even when it's not a k cpu, should i try to go for that? Must admit the cam chat uses alot of cpu power and the last 1.5-2month i have have had shockwave flash crash alot (stopped working), might be because of chrome since shockwave never use to crashed, stop working with chrome

Hello all, I am currently using a i5 4460 with my GTX 1080. My other specs are a Asus ranger 2 z97 motherboard (LGA 1150 socket), 2 x 4gb 1866 ddr3 ram. I am using a gsync 1440p 144hz monitor. My question is I am currently getting for example on overwatch just 120 to 130+ FPS on ultra settings, and I suspect it is my i5 bottlenecking? Should I upgrade to a i7 4790k or it won't make much of a difference? Or should I upgrade my ram to 2 x 8gb ? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys! I am thinking of upgrading my i5-4460 to something like a i5-6600, i5-7600 or a i5-7400. I switched my gtx 970 for a 1070 recently, but I noticed that my fps hasn't increased a lot, or at all. It seems like my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu, and since I got some kind of budget to upgrade, I thought it would be a great idea. Is it worth it to upgrade from my I5-4460? I have arround €200/€250 to spend on the cpu. Will it have a big impact on my fps? Is it worth it? Hey I have an i5 4460 - 16gb ddr3 - GTX 960 2gb. I thinking about upgrading to a GTX 1060 6gb but I don't know if I will do fine with my computer, or If I have buy a whole new computer for a GTX 1060, will it at all bottleneck a GTX 1060 6gb in 1920 x 1080p ? I play RUST - CSGO - league of legends - assassins creeed unity - call of duty black ops 3 I wanna max those games out

Hey all i posted here a week or two ago about building a budget pc and was reccomended to buy used based on my tight budget (plan to save up for coffee lake) and i got an i5 4460, Asus h81 mobo and 8 gb of ram for $160 total on ebay. For 1080p gaming am i limited to a gtx 1060/ RX 580? By the time coffee lake rolls out i imagine Nvidia will have a new lineup out.

hi guys, i'm new in this forum and i really need some good suggestions about what i'm going to do. specs i have currently: - mb msi h81m e-33 - cpu i5 4460 3.2 ghz 6mb cache - ram 4x2 ddr3 1600 mhz - asus radeon hd 7970 3go gddr5 384bit directcuii i'm going to upgrade from my i5 to i7 4790 and from radeom hd 7970 to rx 580, this should be fine to play current games at good fps! and i'm gonna get 2x8 rams ddr3 1600 with a combo like thatvi don't really have to buy a whole new motherboard and new ddr4 ram and new cpu 6th/7th generation. so with that been said, which is good? upgrade with the same motherboard and ram or change the whole thing! keep in mind that i can't afford to buy new mb and new ddr4 rams. thanks.
