Greetings, After watching LTT Video "How is this even possible" link at the bottom. I decided to do a little project and get my 11year old i5 2500k system up to date and be able to play Destiny 2 even with all low settings. First problem I encountered was that the GPU doesn't get recognised in the first PCIe x16 slot. The red vga light lights up after a boot cycle and then it beeps error. On the second slot[grey] it works. My second issue it that the performance was bellow expected levels I average 35-50 fps with all low settings while actual gameplay happens and I get a lot of stuttering lag if I don't lock my fps down around 42 and enable vsync. Is this normal and is there a possible fix or the rest of the hardware is too old for this GPU. Specifications: MB: Asus P8P67 PRO rev1.xx - BIOS Version 3602 CPU: i5 2500k (I haven't done any overclocking) RAM: Kingston 2x4GB DDR3 800Mhz (Running at 669 MHz according to CPU-Z) GPU: GIGABYTE RTX 3050 Storage: SSD Samsung 850 evo 256gb / HDD WD Blue 1 TB PSU: Corsair 550w Gold Windows 10 Pro x64 Thank you for your time

Hi, I'm in high school and I want to do some light gaming with my i5 2500k. I'll be playing games like CS:GO, LoL and Fortnite (maybe even Roblox ) all at 1080p with medium/high settings. I have no idea as to which GPU I should choose. I've been leaning towards the RX 570 but idk, also I live in New Zealand so my options aren't that great. My PSU is Cooler Master GX 550W Bronze. Any help will be appreciated.

I am upgrading my system, but as lower middle class person goes I can't go full out all at once... going to need to space it out over few months. So the upgrade will be R9 290 -> Inno3d GTX 1080 iChill X3 i5 2500k -> i7 7700k Some z170 or z270 MB Most likely Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB(2x8) 3200MHz RAM In the future I will most likely run both graphics cards to use in FAH (FoldingAtHome) concurrently at PCIE 3.0 8x for both while obviously gaming will be done on the 1080 ... and I have done my research that GTX 1080 wont be constricted except for few percentile performance on specific loads / games in that configuration. What my question comes down to is that while I will get my GPU today or tomorrow I will still be running PCIE 2.0 8x/8x for the coming 2 months. How bad will the 1080 suffer in games at PCIE 2.0 8x speeds... Basically Is it worth to constantly take out the R9 290 to run 1080 at 16x 2.0 when I'm not using it for FAH or will I get reasonable results nevertheless on 2.0 8x?. When I use FAH, will the 1080 suffer at all at PCIE 2.0 8x concurrently with my R9 290? Specific workload question.

I've just bought an i7 2600K CPU for the very decent price of $180 CAD, from someone who says they never overclocked, or put any serious stress on it. I've read that the 2600K is pretty much the exactly same CPU as the 2500K, except that it has hyper-threading, which I hear will improve game smoothness due to lower frame-times, as well as improve the speed of CPU-intense productivity-application work, which I do a bit of. The only game I've tried so far with the 2600K installed is Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and it actually did feel to me that it ran noticeably smoother than it did on my 2500K, without putting any effort into trying to focus on whether I was perceiving additional smoothness. My i5 2500K CPU was running at 4.6 Ghz, which is also what I'm now running the 2600K at. However, it took a bit more voltage to get this 2600K CPU stable at that speed, with voltage with the 2600K reaching 1.42 in heavy testing, whereas my 2500K only hit something like 1.362v at most (I used a voltage offset configuration for both overclocks). Though, the 2600K CPU is also running much cooler than my 2500K was, which could be from my applying significantly more thermal paste this time than I did with my 2500K, or, maybe I just screwed the CPU-cooler down a bit more tightly this time. Idle voltage on the 2600K is below 1.00v, due to Intel Speed-Stepping, whereas I didn't have Speed-Stepping properly set up with my 2500K overclock. With my i5 2500K overclock, my idle core temps were around 34C, and max core temps in Intel Burn Test would be around 84C. With the 2600K overclock, which has a bit more voltage on it, my idle core temps are 26 - 28C, and my full-load heavy testing core temps are 68 - 71C. The Intel Speed-Stepping will be contributing a few Cs to the low idle temperatures I'm now getting. Also, the temperatures I'm now getting are with a Noctua NH-D15 fan cooler, using the low-power cable extensions, for reduced noise (but slightly decreased cooling). I used a CoolerMaster 212 Hyper Evo fan cooler for most of the time that I had the 2500K installed, and I'm not sure if the temperature I reported for the 2500K overclock only applies to the CoolerMaster 212, or if they were still similar after I installed the NH-D15, using its low-power cable extensions for reduced noise. i5 2500K overclock specs: 4.6 Ghz LLC - 50% Intel Speed-Stepping not properly set up (I probably had it set to Auto, but in the OS, the power plan had my minimum CPU state set in the OS to 100%) min voltage: 1.240v max voltage: 1.336v temps: 34C - 84C (summer temps) i7 2600K overclock specs: 4.6 Ghz LLC - 100% Intel Speed-Stepping enabled, minimum CPU state set in OS to 15% (I'm going to lower it to 10%) min voltage: 0.992v max voltage: 1.42v temps: 26C - 71C I was hoping to get a higher clock speed out of this 2600K CPU, but I got some stability issues when I left all settings as-is, and tried 4.7 Ghz, and I also don't want to raise the voltage much beyond 1.4v. That said, the same 4.6 Ghz speed, along with hyper-threading, and the much cooler temperatures, as well as finally having Intel Speed-Stepping set up properly, all make the installation of this 2600K a very nice improvement for my PC. And I got it for a good price, and with reportedly very low wear on the CPU. I hope that this system will continue to do well for the next couple of years, save maybe a 1440p monitor and another GPU upgrade. Hi! I want to do a custom loop with my i5 2500k@5ghz 1.4v and r9 290@1200/1500mhz 1.1v. I calculated with outervision everything (even the pump) with cpu at 100% tdp and it said 650W and recommends 700W. I fonun a really good deal on Super Flower Leadex 650W Silver. It's a very good power supply, it has been reviewed by some guys who writes trusted reviews since 2005 and it has been bought more than 100 times from a site in my country. EVGA uses Super Flower in their b3 series, so another sign to trust Super Flower. Does it have enough watts?

Hey fellow nerds and geekers. It's been a while since i upgraded my i5 2500k CPU and I'm wondering whether or not i should look into getting a new one if it's a noticeable bottleneck. The RAM is also not of the pricey variety, so i'm wondering if i should look into upgrading that as well. My current setup is: MSi Gaming X GTX1060 Intel i5 2500k processor OCd to 4,6Ghz Corsair 16GB DD3 XMS3 1600MHZ (4x4gb) ASUS P8P67 PRO B3 P67 S-1155 ATX Monitor: Acer predator X34A iI'll probably upgrade the 1060 to a 1080 or a 1080ti when it comes out in order to utilize the display properly.

Hey I've recently got into PC's and am looking to build a gaming PC just to build it, I found a pretty good deal on a i5 2500k, and am wondering what motherboard I should buy for it. Any other advice on parts is appreciated. I do not want to spend to much on this build, realistcly $300 up to $500 MAX(hopfully on the lower side. I am getting the i5 for $50.

Hey guys! So i am actually trying to upgrade my pc which runs an athlon processor. i am tired of it being very bad at gaming. i got a gtx 750 oc in it but every game bottlenecks. I am on a budget so this is what i came up with. Please check it out. processor: intel i5 2500k https://bit.ly/2t5sxsq motherboard:gigabyte GA-P67-DS3-B3 lga 1155 https://bit.ly/2JQTs5C ram: kingston https://bit.ly/2l7Quvy im trying to go for a cheaper alternative on ram tho so this is another one: https://bit.ly/2sR9gfi But thing is it says for "AMD only" and i was confused because a ddr3 ram shud work irrespective of intel or amd right? Please help me at this. cpu cooler: coolermaster hyper tx3 evo https://bit.ly/2y7ukmD i have the rest of the stuff like a 450 watt corsair psu and a case n pc fans since im just upgrading. my expenditure is : 63 + 55 + 28 (16 if cheaper ram) + 18 (converted from myr to usd) = $164 or $152 I know it sounds heck cheap but i am still trying to make it even more under my budget. Also i want to know if all the stuff will be compatible. I've done my research and i find it will, especially i could overclock my processor with that motherboard. But i still believe putting the plan out on the forums will make it more failproof. If you could come up with a cheaper plan that would be very helpful too. I live in malaysia so i use sites like lazada and shoppe malaysia. Aliexpress works too but if i could find better deals on local sites that would be great. Maybe newegg could work unless they charge me for shipping. Thanks alot

I was wondering if u could still game on an i5 2500k because I'm planning to buy a new kind of budget PC. I'm planning to buy a: -GTX 980 ti -i5 2500k -Biostar Intel LGA1155 Z77 motherboard -an SSD 850 EVO 2.5 SATA III 250GB -2TB Seagate HDD The only thing I'm not sure about is the CPU

I'm looking to upgrade my PC. While I play games sometimes, I'm more concerned with speed for things like compiling in game development. Relevant specs are, motherboard: P8z68-pro Processor: i5 2500k Ram: 2 sticks of jm1600kln-4g SSD: samsung evo 500gb Graphics Card: Radeon HD 7990 (I dont plan on upgrading this, for now.) HDD: Various (dont plan on upgrading these) My main concern is that I don't know how much of an improvement certain processors would be, and by extension if it would be worth it to upgrade the motherboard. The ram is also fairly cheap, yet I've seen a lot of mixed info as to whether it would be worth upgrading at all, and I've run into few limitations even at 8gb. (Only one has been loading huge vsts in music production) Budget is anywhere from $200 to $1000 CAD, it really depends what the advantages would be. Bonus points if it can be ordered on amazon because I have prime, and thus free shipping.

I saw a discussion on this, but it did not meet my answer. I play games such as CS:GO, Battlefield 4 (and 1 in the future), World of Tanks, DayZ and Miscreated (maybe GTA in the future) I'd like to play these games with medium settings and I guess I could settle for average and at least have 70-100fps. Looking at the 2500K since its affordable on eBay, but I thought I'd ask if it would meet my standards? Thanks!

My old Antec AIO finaly gave out on me and I purchased a corsair H60 from a friend who upgraded to a H100i, I put on the cooler and quickly noticed that I was pushing temps of 66 Celsius at idle and around 85 at full load, some quick googling lead me to the conclusion that I had applied the paste wrong, I removed the paste re-applied after looking at some more guides and i'm sure that there is ample paste and I screwed the CPU plate a bit tighter but there was only a slight difference and I was still pushing 58 degrees at idle, 61-62 with a few chrome tabs open and about the same at load, I added an extra fan to the rad and still saw minuscule difference. That brings me to the thermal paste, the paste I used was cheapo nexxtech heat sink compound stuff because it was the only thing I could get in my town because i'm kinda out in the boonies, I've ordered some Arctic silver 5 from amazon and I'm hoping this will bring the temps down. I can feel the pump working so i'm pretty sure the cooler is not the problem. I'm fairly sure the paste is the problem is the paste but I would like a second opinion. thanks

So i recently purchased an I5-2500k and an asus p8p67 rev 3 motherboard from a friend for 75$, but i have had nothing but issues since buying. I am running at abnormal temperatures, and have nooo idea why, I have reseated the heatsink 4 times, 3 with artic silver, one with lepa thermal paste. the lepa did fairly well at first but after a week of not useing the pc, i booted the pc up and was running mid 60c-80c.... the lowest i had the cpu running at idle is around 42, but that doesnt last long. So after some minor research, and useing task manager/open hardware monitor, i have realized this cpu is running at 1.36? volts.and is clocking in at 4.3.... this processor is only rated at 3.3-3.7 turbo. so my new issue is, what are the stock specs i need to input to bring this thing back to stock, because i have noooo idea. Before yall ask, room stays around 80ish degrees F. house is set to 78 but my main pc and my devices boost the temp up a bit. Im hopeing my stock cooler is still sufficent to bring this back to stock, all i built this pc for was to run overwatch on like low/med, maybe some gta on med, and mostly just use it as a youtube and twitch stream machine (just an entertainment pc, since xbox is gonna stop supporting the 360 soon) The Picture is my latest application of paste useing the smear pattern with a small xtra blob in the middle to oooze out (bout the size of a BB) and it is brand new atric silver 5. Also, if i have to redo the thermal again........ how much paste does intel like? my main pc is running a fx 8350 with a 240mm lepa AIO (where the lepa paste came from) and i have had noooo issues with that, i run max like 40 degrees. I5 2500k asus p8p67 = $75 msi r9 270x 2gb = $100 Cooler master 430 elite = laying around 8gb Crucibal Balistics = $28 240 gb adata SSD = $57 Corsair CX500M = $35 a beat of a machine for the price, if i can get running.... Thanks yall for looking, hopefully yall have some good info for me. ~Thanks~ ~Heavy~

before reading here is what im going to be using this LAN PC for: beater PC to take around to LAN parties so i dont have to bring my main $1100 rig a platform to experiment with Linux on only game it needs to run is CS:GO bots for my Discord server so i can have them up 24/7 basically. ok with that out of the way here is the main text and shit: Ok so the seller of the PC with the completly random I5 hasent responded after 48H so im going to assume he wont respond ever so i have once again moved to new ideas for what the LAN PC could become, but this time with even less of a budget because personal stuff needed that money, anyway now the budget is about $100ish and here is what i have found whilst looking around for stuff: HP Proliant DL380 G4: CPU: dual Xeons(unknown what Xeons) at 3.2Ghz RAM: 10GB of DDR2 ECC RAM 4x72.8GB SCSI HDDs 2x36.4GB SCSI HDDs 3 PCI-X slotts 2x Gigabit network cards dual PSUs cost: about $74 + shipping "upgrade package" CPU: I5 750 GPU: GTX560 TI Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 cost: about $89 + shipping Dell Optiplex 745 CPU: Core 2 quad Q6600 RAM: 8GB of unknown speed but im guessing 600ish Mhz GPU: AIT Radeon HD 4600 1GB HDD: WD Caviar 250GB wifi card Windows 7 Parts i found: Asus P5N-E SLI : $10 Core 2 quad Q6600 : $40 I5 2500k : $80 I7 930(lidded but working) Ok so im thinking the server is sounding pretty cool, i want this LAN PC to be done and over with so i can just have it because its taken me way longer and way more pain then i first anticipated so i just want it done, but i also dont just want some piece of crap, i want something thats "OK" performance and i have a VERY limited budget right now. i could get parts and that would be fun but if i get the I5 2500k a decent motherboard is another $30 off ebay atleast and then RAM and stuff, so even tho thats the best preforming CPU im pretty sure i dont want to wait another month to build this. i have a 8800GT for graphics and that should be fine for now but that 560 TI looks good too. im just not sure what to get anymore, i can usually just decide this stuff but now im going to ask, what is the best deal here and were are my precus $s(sek lol) best spent? TL;DR: what do i get from the list that best suits my needs? thanks for reading and thanks for any advice and any replies

It`s that time of the year again, upgrade time. I`ve had my i5 2500k for about 4 years now, It`s been slowing down, and i feel like it`s time for an upgrade. I play games for the most part, the reason for the upgrade is because my i5 2500k is slowing down, and i feel like it`s holding back my r9 290 crossfire setup. I was thinking of purchasing the i7 5820k, with the Corsair H110i gt. I`m unsure about what RAM and motherboard i should pick(suggestions are appreciated). So to the point of this thread, is this a good idea?

Hey, I can't figure out how exactly my vcore works on my motherboard. I've got something like CPU dynamic Vcore(DVID) but cant find fixed Vcore setting. Basically im running at 4.4 GHz with 1.32Vcore after adjusting this DVID parametr on +0.040. The problem is that I am reading VCore from HWmonitor and I can't be sure if its the real voltage :<. Understand me or not but I am just not sure about my overclock. I would appreciate someone's experienced help because I dont know if its the only factor that adjusts my VCore. Or just guys hit me up with couple recommended settings for this processor and mobo i5 2500k / gigabyte z68a-b3-d3 (latest bios) / 600w ocz psu Attaching couple screens of my bios (without oc applied) Sorry for my bad language I am from Poland :>

So I'm doing a casemod and my plan is/was to just put my old pc in it. However I have a massive aircooler (scythe muger 2 rev B) that's too high for the new case. So my options are to either watercool my pc with all the benefits of that or get an aircooler with a lower profile and use the spare money to save for a bigger upgrade later on. An AIO watercooler is not an option since the tubes won't be long enough so it would have to be a custom loop. Current Specs: cpu: i5 2500K @ 3.2GHz but stable overclock possible in the 4-5 GHz range Motherboard: Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 RAM: 8GB @1600 GPU: Club3D HD 7950 royalKing not overclocked but overclockable to get similar performance to a 7970 SSD: Samsung 830 SSD 128GB HDD: 2TB seagate HDD PSU: XFX ProSeries 750W XXX Screen: dell u2312hm

Hello, Currently, i'm running 1 hd 7950 and an i5 2500k on a 650w Seasonic SSR-650RM 80+ gold PSU. Other things that'll be using power: corsair h100i, 4 corsair sp120 fans, LED RGB lighting. So my question is, is 650w enough to run my system if I add a second hd 7950 for crossfire? I'd like to avoid upgrading it if it's not necessary. Thanks in advance! Edit: at the moment, nothing is overclocked since the 2500k is already fast enough for my needs at 3.7ghz.

Need help - OC in BIOS 4,5 GHz, CPU-Z shows only 4,0 GHz
darksimon posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello guys, I have a problem. When I overclock my CPU - i5 2500K in BIOS to 4,5 GHz it shows me only 4,0 GHz in CPU-Z and HWinfo64 - even if I run Prime95. I think it can have something to do with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility which I had installed, but even after re-installing, uninstalling it is still the same. I´ve tried restarting, different settings in BIOS etc., but I still can figure out where is the problem. When I started Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and changed multiplier to 45 there it was OK, but before starting this program and changing it from 40x to 45x after every start of OS it would stay at 40x multiplier. I could even do 1 hour prime95 test when changed to 45x trough this Utility.. Vcore voltage is 1,35 CPU PPL: Auto PPL overvoltage: Disabled SpeedStep and Turbo Boost enabled Spred spectrum Cooler is Coolermaster 212+ It is even weirder because that fact, that stock clock is 3,3 Ghz, Turbo boost 3,7 GHz, in BIOS is set 4,5 GHz, but OS boots with 4,0 GHz Any ideas ? -

Hi, I would like to oc my i5-2500k (actually running with the base clock @3.3 GHz) My CPU-cooling is a gelid rev 2 tranquilo with a bequiet pure wings 2 fan (120mm) My mainboard is the Asrock z68 pro3 gen3 and my power supply is a Thermaltake berlin 630W with 80+ certification. I have 8gb of corsair vengeance LP @1600MHz (dual chanel 2x4gb). The all system takes place in a Zalman Z11 and I think the airflow is correct. I also have a second bequiet pure wings 2 fan for the air extraction at the back of the chassis. The CPU is running at 35° and at 55° in charge (after IntelBurnTest 2.50 running for 30 min). Do you think I will be able to oc it correctly with this system? I was thinking about something like 4.5GHz with a V-core of +0,020V. Do you think this is realistic? What result did you get with such a system? What result do you think I can get? Thank you for your help ! Excuse me for my bad english, I come from France.

Hi, ..I'm looking in to a gpu for i5 2500k withouth bottleneck.. there are low pc programs use such as, xcel office bla bla and mostly movies + mmorpg's games going on. I saw there like gtx 650ti, GTX660, HD 7770, 7790, 7850, 7870, R7 260x and so on + GTX 760 and a R9 270X.. Which one would do?! I don't mind being AMD or nVIDIA, just to do my job. Thanks! PS: .. Interested in to a "cheap" cpu cooler for i5 2500k that can handle 4.0 or 4.2 .. even 4.5 maybe?
