Ran into a snag when setting up my home network. Thought I could extend my network coverage by setting up two access points on the RAX50 router (using 2 RAX35s). Was able to set up one of the RAX35s but when setting up the second one it would always fail. I was told by support that the RAX50 can only handle 1 WAP when it’s connected directly into it. If I use a small managed switch as a “middle man” between the RAX 50/ and the RaX 35s will I be able to set up the network as I was originally planning to? I ordered this managed switch to accomplish this NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch (GS105Ev2) - Managed, Desktop or Wall Mount, and Limited Lifetime Protection https://a.co/d/5PsefJw My question is will this work or will I run into the same issue as before?

Hello LLT community, I'm in need of some guidance regarding a much-needed Wi-Fi upgrade. When Plume was first released, my dad opted for it as the best available option at the time. However, it's become clear that an upgrade is long overdue. Plume is limited to Wi-Fi 5, operates on a subscription service, and is frustratingly slow to boot up. Our internet connection is through Comcast Business, and we're fortunate to have it provided by a FAANG company. We have a medium-sized home with a growing number of devices, and three of us are working from home, making a robust and reliable Wi-Fi network essential. Considering these factors, I've been contemplating upgrading to Wi-Fi 6E. It appears to be a suitable choice for our needs given its enhanced speed, capacity, and ability to accommodate a multitude of devices. However, I'd love to hear from the LLT community for any advice, suggestions, or alternative recommendations you might have. Your experience and insights would be invaluable in helping me make an informed decision. Here are some specific questions I have: Wi-Fi 6E: Is it indeed the right choice for our situation? Router Recommendations: Are there specific Wi-Fi 6E routers or brands that you've had success with? Mesh Networking: Should I consider a mesh system for better coverage in our medium-sized home? Compatibility: Are there any compatibility concerns I should be aware of when upgrading to Wi-Fi 6E? Thank you in advance for your insights and advice. Your assistance will go a long way in helping me choose the right upgrade for our home network. Best regards, carbon

I am trying to hardline both my work and game computers from the router which is far away from my office. Luckily, my house is wired for ethernet but what I am trying to do see what the best way is to connect my PCs. My router has two ports that can be aggregated (1GB each) and I would like to know if this can help me maximize my speed. I know that I will need a switch from the wall to my PCs, but I am not sure if aggregating the ports then going to the single CAT-6 cable that runs to the room will do anything for me. Thanks for any inputs!

Hi all, I am having issues with determining what my IP is and why my router is reporting a different WAN IP from my modem. We recently upgraded to a new Internet provider, and we have not had these issues before with a standalone modem to router network. I currently have 3 IP addresses that I can retrieve from the Modem, Router, and my PC (checking what is my ip). They are on completely different blocks, Modem is reporting 7.121.xxx.xxx Modem is reporting 192.157.xxx.xxx, and my PC is reporting 66.7.xxx.xxx as my external IP. This issue is affecting all PCs, and all devices, and this is especially problematic as I host servers for games at home, no one can access my servers no matter which IP i use. My understanding of the Modem is that it is a standalone modem with no DHCP, logging in to the device reveals no for DHCP or anything else, just the bands it is operating on and the IP information. Router is reporting a different IP from the modem, but the modem isn't even reporting my external IP. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Additional information: The hardware in use is: Windows 10 PC, Ubuntu Servers, Android phones, etc. Router - TP-Link Multi-WAN Wired VPN Router (ER605) Modem - Hitron CODA-45 HW rev 2 Wifi - (ap mode only) Dlink DIR890L My TRACERT.exe to google.ca yields this, I am especially concerned about the very strange 192.157 block information. Hi Team, I am seeking recommendations for networking a 4 storied building. Each floor has 2500 sq ft of carpet area. I am planning to host the network off a server room on L1. Lay out network cables (cat 6) through out the four floors and terrace and terminate all of the cables on the server room. The server room would house a 48 port POE 802.3af switch. Run cat 6 cables for CCTV cameras (IP cameras) and terminate them as well on the server room to the 802.3af switch. Run cat 6 cables for access points for each floor and terminate them as well on the server room to the 802.3af switch. I am planning to install UAP AC LITE access points (two access points placed strategically on each floor). I wanted to know if two would suffice covering an area of 2500 sq ft. I had a discussion with the contractor and he was of the opinion to house a 8 port switch at every floor and a 24 port switch which will connect all these floors and the CCTV cameras. I am of the opinion to centrally manage the four floors. Please let me know how should I go about setting up the network.

Hey fellas, today i am here with a new idea.I live in india and internet quality is very poor even my internet connection doesn't reaches above 50 kb/s on 4G .I came up with an idea that what if my cellular network send me packets compressed by 25% and it decompresses as soon as it reaches my device from which i am trying to access data .As,newer smartphone and computers are coming with more powerful processor and faster memory this would give me a faster internet connection.

Ok so I'm having a little trouble here. I have 3 routers in the house. 2 Razer Sila routers and 1 Virgin media router. The Virgin media router is the main as it acts as the gateway to the internet. There is a PC that is wired to this router. The first Sila is based in the attic where we have 2 xbox one x's for myself and my brother connected. We game on this daily. There is also a Philips hue bridge attached to this router. The second Sila router is based lower down in the house and closer to the garden as we need access to WiFi in the garder, in the shed which is further back and to the solar panes. The second router is also the one that everyone who visits and who isn't gaming connects to. There is a Sonos Bridge connected to this router. I have included an image with this post to visually demonstrate the connections that i have just described. Now my issue it that when i'm connected to Razer router 1, (refer to image) i cannot control the Sonos speakers and if I'm connected to the Razer router 2, i can't control the Philips hue lights. The PC that is connected to the Virgin router can't control the Sonos bridge either. there isn't a Philips hue app for windows (not that I'm aware of) so that doesn't matter but it 100% needs to be able to play music on the Sonos speakers. How can i get all these routers to work together so it doesn't matter which one you are connected to? I want to be able to control the Hue lights from any router or even play my music on the Sonos speakers regardless of which router I'm connected to. The main reason for this implementation is to be able to control everything from the IPads that I have mounted onto the wall as my multimedia control centre.

Hello Community, i hope you could help me with a problem. I recently moved into a new flat and need to get LAN connection into my office. The ISP plug is in the halway 7m across from the office. The powerlines in the house are pretty old so i dont know if a reliable connection would work here. Drilling a hole through a Wall for a LAN cable would be the last of my considered Options as all walls are brick ones. Thats why i thougt of a Wifi connection between my Fritzbox 7530 (from ISP) and some other central device in the Office. Is there a possible solution (not overly expensive) that could work? p.s. i would need 4 Ethernet Plugs in the Office thanks in advance, Knoppersd

Hello everyone! I'm really desperate, because of our new router. So we got an older type (2016ish) D'link AS 1200 router and we thought we will expand our home network. We had a Huawei modem which our ISP sent us and set up. It has 4 slots, 1 was going to my pc and 3 to our set-top boxes, so we pulled out one of the set-up box's Ethernet cable and plugged in the Ethernet cable which came with the new router. I did the the set up via Firefox, a setup wizard help em through it. I taught everything is done and I can have a little rest now, but my father told me, that the TV (an LG smart TV) can't connect to the internet via Ethernet cable, it said something about DNS error. I Googled a bit and tried to set the TV's DNS default to 8.8.8.8. Maybe this is not even the correct solution, so if you can help me with this one I would be glad too. After all this came the worst realization, our connection was really bad. It was weak, but sometimes doesn't even worked. For example my father couldn't even connect to neither of the WiFi (because this router has a 2,4 GHz and a 5 GHz network) with his phone. I tried to find solution online, but no success. I way messing around with it for 3 hours, but I'm tired now and frustrated. Please someone help me, I'm really annoyed at the fact that I can't solve this problem. I'm looking forward to your replies. Matthew

Hello, So i´m getting fiber network (500/100) this week. My problem is that the cable comes in at the wrong side of the house and on the wrong floor. I need a cable for my computer and need more Wi-Fi coverage on the second floor but don´t really know how to make that happen easy. I have never built a "home-solution" before with consumer grade hardware. Any good ideas on how I should do it? Thanks

Hey Everyone, I'm looking to get a home NAS backup solution. I want to be able to have all my photos, some documents, and around 20 movies on the device. I want to be able to connect to the device via computer and mobile devices. And lastly I want to be able to have the NAS backup to a cloud service like Amazon. Currently I'm looking at WD My Cloud devices. It seems to tick all the boxes I have, but I'm unsure what it's options are for backing up data from the My Cloud to Amazon or Google etc. I'm aware that it does support backing up to Amazon S3, but I don't currently use S3 and am not sure if it'd be cost effective for me. Currently I use Amazon Photos as my cloud based photo backup, but I would be open to using something else if it was cost effective. I'm also open to the idea of just buying a QNAP NAS or Synology NAS and building it all myself. My only gripe with that option is I'm worried the device is going to be loud. In the past I've has an ASUSTOR NAS and I found that it constantly made hard drive crunching sounds that I found to be quite audible. I'd like a near silent solution. Hopefully someone with more NAS experience can point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone :)

Hello Everyone! Let's just say it's been a few years since I have been in the networking scene... I am looking for 2 things. 1. A shared network drive (Example: An 'M:\' Drive that all PCs on network can access) 2. An "endpoint" for a VPN. When my wife is at school, she would like to be able to VPN to the home network so she can access the M drive. At my disposal I have... A. Windows Server 2012 R2 B. Windows 10 C. All Linux Distros I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to do this. I would think it would be too difficult. But, it has been so long since I have done anything like this. I would probably just use the built-in VPN on the remote computer. If I can think of anything else, I can edit the post. Thank you, everyone!
