help! Help me with my Sony TV and Sony home theatre setup
Aditya_cross posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hi LTT folks, Please help me setup my home theatre with my TV. TV model - Sony X90K 65inch Home Theatre Model - DAV-DZ790K Current setup is :- Apple TV connected to TV in HDMI 4 port Home theatre connected to TV in HDMI 2 port and for sound since my home theatre does not support ARC) I have connected both with an optical cable (TV does not have RCA out). The problem is that when I restart my tv and Apple TV, everything turns on at once. Like my TV, Apple TV and home theatre all turn on at the same time. But after a few seconds, my tv shows an error that it cannot connect to the home theatre so l have to reconnect the Hdmi again just to make it work again. Adding on, I cannot use 5.1 using optical cable so if there is a way to use 5.1 with this home theatre and this tv then it would be really good for me. Losing out on surround sound is not the best. -
Does anyone have any suggestions for surround sound/home theatre system, preferably under $1000 while also being bang for the buck?

Hello there everyone, I am fairly new to setting up a home theatre system, my expertise are definitely not in the audio department. I am been using the stock speakers on my TV (Sharp GB254WJSA) and I am using the Mi Box S 4K for all my streaming needs (mostly Netflix & Disney +). As stated in the mi box's website, it supports Dolby audio (Dolby digital (DD), DD plus, DTS) and not Dolby Atmos. I am planning on getting any reasonably priced (please recommend) Samsung sound bar (with sub woofer) that supports Dolby Atmos. Will a Dolby Atmos supported sound bar be able to play the full array of the DD plus format? Why am I getting the Dolby Atmos supported device? I am looking to upgrade to the Nvidia Shield TV Pro in the future (supports Atmos). Also, with the limited amount of ports available on the mi box, I am not sure how to get it to connected to the soundbar. Do I have setup as mi box > passthrough > TV > speakers or mi box > audio > speakers & > picture > TV. I am not sure whether my TV has a HDMI arc to allow passthrough or do I have to get a receiver to do this. So basically the gist of it is; 1. How do I setup DD plus from my mi box and connect it to the speakers and get surround sound? 2. Do you have any product recommendation? Your help is much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Budget (including currency): Whatever it takes! Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR/Gaming/Productivity Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi guys, first time poster I'm currently in the process of setting up my home office, and I'm trying to understand what it'd take to move my gaming/media PC into the office. For reference, the office is directly next to my front room, which is where the PC currently lives. The PC is hefty enough - 6700k, 32GB, RTX 2080Ti. I'm not against upgrading the CPU/motherboard if it makes the solution more elegant (my motherboard doesn't support thunderbolt). The run from where the PC would sit to where the TV is is approx 6-7m. Currently, the PC powers everything - I use MadVR to upscale my media directly on the machine, my VR is set up in the front room (and won't really fit anywhere else), and it's hooked up directly to the TV. As mentioned, I'd like to move this PC to the other room, be able to use it on a monitor in the office OR on the TV in the front room (note - one at a time, not looking to multitask across both locations). In addition to this, I'd like to be able to easily switch the monitor/keyboard/mouse inputs in the office to my laptop which I'll work from in the office most of the time. The reasons for this are numerous, but the big ones are less noise/heat in the front room, and finally being able to play more competitive games on a high refresh rate monitor rather than a 60Hz TV. So, my checklist... I want to: Have my PC in the office room, which is 6-7m away from where it currently sits Use that PC to power couch gaming in the front room (I use an Xbox pad typically, if that matters) Have the PC power my VR set-up in the front room (Valve Index, if that matters) Be able to quickly switch between using the TV in the front room and a high refresh rate monitor in the office (audio will need to switch at the same time too) Be able to quickly switch the monitor, keyboard and mouse between the PC and my work laptop My current thinking is to run fiber HDMI to the TV, fiber DP to the Index, 2x active USBs (one for Index specifically, one for a hub powering other peripherals as needed) and ethernet. What I'm not clear on is how to get the display/input switching working. Additionally, I'm not sure if the solution I mention above is the most elegant way of solving this particular problem. I'd really appreciate any help on this. I've got the last of my office furniture coming in a couple of weeks, so I'd love to get your thoughts!

so im not sure really where to put this, also i dont normally post on here so im not sure on really what to do At home we have our own home theatre that we built with an actual projector and so on *Photos taken by me* and recently i set up one of my old desktops to use as a plex server and a file server (dont worry i have got that all sorted out fine). i heard linus say something about copying all his blurays onto his media server so he doesant have to fumble around with discs. and that got me thinking about doing the same thing, we have about 100 or so blurays in the cupboard and my question is how can i copy/rip (not sure what to call it) the blurays onto my media server wihtout loosing any quality so i can stream it through my plex server? i know there is the route of torrenting them but we support the film industry and would rather buy them so we can get the best quality, i do admit to downloading a few movies (only like 3 becasue i couldnt wait for the bluray) but i dont really like to do that. (and i cant do that now anyway since those sites have been blocked in australia) so im woundering is there a way to copy them onto my hard drive for my plex server. TL;DR Im wanting to know how to copy my blurays discs to a file without loosing any quality so i can watch them in my home theatre without swapping discs everytime, and to stream on my plex server.

Hello, recently i hooked up my Sony DAV-SB200 to PC via 3.5mm jack to red/white audio, everything seems to work good except the side speakers, they have muffled low (very low) volume in them but again if i swap to dvd mode, all of them work perfectly, any ideas how to utilise all 5.1 not just the rear speakers / front speaker / and woofer? Thank you in advance! Edit: would scart to HDMI work with 5.1? can even scart output 5.1?

I've got an old set of speakers that I want to connect to my PC. They use 5 way binding posts so clearly I can't just plug them in. Is there a sound card that will let me use them or do I have to use a receiver? If I have to use a receiver is it possible to find one that goes in a 5.25" drive bay? The speakers in question are KEF HTS 2001.3 Satellites. Thanks in advance!

My JVC 4k 49" Smart TV (LT-49N675A) cycles through solid colours at random times. It mostly does it when it gets turned on, cycling through solid colours of red, green, blue, white. Is there a fix to this? I require help! Other people have the same problem, as seen in the video: NOTE: the video isnt mine, its someone else's that I found on youtube. But what you see is pretty much what is happening to mine.

Good day LTT! I am planning to upgrade my living room TV from the 32in 720p Dynex that my uncle gave me 6 years ago to something a bit more modern. After doing substantial research, here is what I've arrived at so far: Use cases: Netflix/Movie Machine (input: HDMI out from audio receiver), light console gaming from ps4 (mostly destiny), additional screen for couch gaming from my main PC (specs in profile) I obviously have no need of any "smart" features, and since I will be taking all the input from 1 HDMI cable, I don't need more inputs. Since my receiver will be handling sound, the speakers are of no consequence, and I won't need to wall mount it. Here are the features that WILL be important: -1080p (because my TV needs to get there at some point). Not going 4K just yet due to lack on content, and I'd rather go for a nicer gaming monitor first, since I do most of my gaming on PC. -40-50 inches. I believe that size will fit best in my living room. The couch is 10 ft away from the entertainment center. -60 hz refresh rate (the "real" refresh rate. I'm full aware that the 240 tru motion stuff is garbage balls). If I can get higher, sure, but again, I'm focusing on my desktop for better gaming experience; I just want at least basic standards on my TV. -Good contrast ratio. From what I've read, this would be one of the factors that best effects how the TV actually looks, but it's hard to find in the specs. -Budget: around $400 USD. Any tips from the community? Thank you in advance!

Looking for recommendations. I bought an Omnos via Kickstarter...it's the only tech item I've ever backed on Kickstarter that has both succeeded AND they delivered a product to me. The sound's decent, and the atmospheric effects for being an emulation is fairly competent...only drawback is the HDMI passthrough...it doesn't appear to be HDCP 2.2 compatible. Since that's not something that can be fixed with a firmware update, I'm looking for a replacement solution and moving the Omnos. Been looking at the LG SK10Y which seems to be discounted on Amazon lately to about $550. It's either something like that or a receiver/speaker setup (but that setup would have to support wireless rear speakers based on my current living area). Any other suggestions are appreciated. Figure the budget I'm looking at is USD $600 or below if not going full receiver/speaker setup.

The speaker setup uses a 3x 3.5mm cable setup and then the subwoofer acts as a stand-alone amp and splitter, expanding to 2 left and 2 right speakers, as well as 1 center speaker. Most modern TVs do not sport multiple, or even a single 3.5mm port, so how will I be able to connect it? Even using a seperate audio receiver for the TV doesn't solve the issue since it has no 3.5mm ports. What should I do? Also, what TVs would you recommend that falls under these criteria: Must be 4K Must be a smart TV Must be name brand, (Samsung, LG, Sony). Must be 40-45" in diagonal size. Must support some sort of audio out, either that be through HDMI, Toslink, 3.5mm or otherwise. VESA Mountability. Nice-to-haves but not necessary (Does not have to fit all of these requirements.): Gray/ silver exterior. Good speakers (in case no I can't use the external speakers). G-Sync/Freesync/Adaptive Sync support. HDR capability. Greater than 60hz refresh rate.

Hello, I currently have an empty home theater room and am looking to equip it with a projector or large tv. We are currently leaning towards a projector to cover around 80 to 110 inches not really sure about the space to take up but all in all I am looking for your projector recommendations because I don’t know much about them

I would classify myself as a casual audiofile. I enjoy high quality bit perfect music, but i also like to keep my equipment at a fairly budgeted price. At the moment, i use a pair of Audio Engine A5+ Premium Powered Bookshelf speakers for my 4K 55inch TV within my bedroom. I have walls that in my opinion would be decent for a Dolby Atmos experience, but i can't wrap my head around the idea of spending $700 on a 3.1 Sony Sound-bar or a 5.1 LG Sound-bar that reproduces and upscales 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos audio. Is the investment in a Sound-bar actually going to make that much of a difference from the Stereo setup already in place? I would also like to add that i sit about 13 feet from the TV when i am watching content, which is not ideal for most bookshelf speaker setups. Are these Sound-bars overkill on bass? I do prefer low punchy bass as i do not need to rumble the floor with people below me at 10:00pm at night. Here are the speaker links, for those who are interested. 1.Bookshelf speakers: https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Premium-Powered-Speaker-White/dp/B005OA3BSY/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543171584&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=audioengine&smid=A1MDP7AFOR891V&th=1 2. Sound-bar option 1:https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Sound-Bar-Speaker-HT-Z9F/dp/B0793HNSQG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543163986&sr=1-1&keywords=sony+z9f# 3. Sound-bar option 2:https://www.amazon.com/LG-SK9Y-5-1-2-Audio-Sound/dp/B07CBQZ6HT/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543171922&sr=1-4&keywords=lg+soundbar And lastly a Picture of my set up so others can add an opinion or suggest other solutions. Thank you! Brew

Hey everyone, I've been looking for a Home theatre system for a decent price and I'm comparing https://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=14650 & https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/AUDOKY00588/Onkyo-SKS-HT588-512-Channel-Home-Cinema-Speaker-Sy I'm wondering which you would go with or do you know of any better models for a good price?

Not sure if this has been posted before. Apparently, Dolby intends to restrict 3rd party upmixing on audio.Which means that you would not be able to take Dolby audio codecs and run it with a DTS or Auro mixer, basically monopolizing audio formats Here's an excellent detailed article on it by audioholics along with a video discussion. https://www.audioholics.com/audio-technologies/dolby-non-native-upmixing-atmos This is taking away choices from the consumer while trying to sabotage the lesser known DTS and Auro formats. So if you have set up your home audio system for Auro3D (which requires a different layout from Dolby Atmos), you won't be able to experience a lot of content in 3D surround.

Please note my questions are numbered. Please try to answer all of them in your reply. Thank you. My audio setup is as follows: Asus Xonar D2X -> 3 x 3.5mm cables, male on both ends -> One side of the cables go into the Xonar D2X the other into the Logitech 5.1 Z5500 So for years I have had it so that it works using the 3.5mm analogue cables. I discovered today that my soundcard has SPDIF. Until today I didn't know what it was. I assumed that the Xonar D2X didn't have optical digital out and never knew what SPDIF was and thought only RCA style cables go into it (I still don't know if any other cable other then a SPDIF adapter (supplied with the sound card) can go into it. A quick check on guru3d's 2008 review on the card shows: '' S/PDIF input and output, both with optical and coaxial connections' So there is something called coaxial. 1) What is this coaxial and does it work using light, like optical digital TOSLINK? I tried connecting my PC to my Z5500 using the adapter. The cable supplied looks like a toy. it is plastic. I was like What the..., this must be a joke. It worked. 2) I wonder if the quality of this cable affects the sound? I assume as it's digital it makes no difference? I switched between Analogue and Digital using both the Z5500 and the Xonar D2X Control Centre. The control centre has only these options for the SPDIF out: > PCM > Dolby Digital Live > DTS Interactive > S/PDIF In Loopback 3) What are all these options and why and when do I use each one? 4) When I put it on PCM I get no sound and my Z5500 shows 'No digital data'. Why? After trying it out I noticed that Optical sounds a tiny bit worse and is quieter. I have read that by using digital you bypass all the good high quality audio processing of the sound card and pass that job onto the receiver (in this case the Z5500 speakers). So it is said that analogue output is better quality. 5) Is that true and if so can you please explain how? I am renovating my room soon, so it would be nice to be able to get rid of the 3 cables and use this short digital cable instead. Sound quality takes priority thought of course, so if digital output is worse please tell me.

As said in the title, I had the Logitech Z906 for about 6 years but they just died, and from what a bunch of repair guys told me, Logitech doesn't provide spare parts for these. So, after accepting I have no sound from my PC for the time being, I'm in a rush to replace them. I've been looking at some options, but I've got my eye on the Onkyo ht-s3800 for now. If anyone has an opinion on them or has a better alternative, please do tell, as I am not very knowledgeable in home theatre setups. To be clear, I'm looking for a system in a box (don't have the funds to be looking into really enthusiast stuff) and mostly not specialty or niche brands, I don't think I can get them where I live.

With my home finishing up in 3 weeks (yikes) and my home theatre will be my cave I seriously need help with stuff. Do I keep the 70 inch 4k sharp that I just bought for $1350 or go projector? I will game in this room And watch game film of my 11u football team I coach. Or would a Projector be a viable option. Room is 15x16. Pre wired for 5.1 has a window, (will be covered with a swing open movie poster) Help guys. I want to keep a total budget of $1500 for visuals. Going Bose speakers and a pioneer elite amp with 2 sub outputs for $1000(have a sony 10 inch sub already) That is not cutting into the visual budget Total will be $2500 for sight and sound

Hi, this is my first post here and I hope I chose the correct forum for it. I have all my components on hand but the whole setup (despite its specs) looks rather sad. What I want to do is: mount the TV and Soundbar to the wall in the center mount a shelf left to it with consoles and phone mount a shelf right to the TV with the PC, Router and Modem choose beautiful braided cables (black and white would be nice) route all cables on the wall parallel to each other along the wall via 3 vertical "channels" and one horizontal "channel" My questions: Where do I get such cables or the sleeving for existing cables? Where do I get cable routing equipment, that can be mounted to the wall and used to run the cables in nice straight lines? To be clear, I do not want a cable tunnel. I want the cables to be visible and have them routed in nice parallel lines. the overlapping will take place behind the equipment (tv for example) if necessary. An example: All the cables needed for the setup and their routing: Thanks in advance for your replies and ideas! I think this is a great forum and I hope I posed the question correctly. regards Kai

Hi, I have a small meeting room and I was thinking about putting a projecter( it has to be a short throw one since I haven´t got much space) and It would be great if it was wireless. About the wireless option I though of going with Linus´s solution with the wireless HDMI. I also though on going with benq´s wireless kit However I think it isn´t worth the Price-quality. I would like to know with brands would you reccomend or even if it is possible the model. I´m looking for the best quality-price, wireless compatible, short throw and 2200+ lumens since it is a rather bright room. There are so many of these availiable that it is difficult to chose and since I am not projector- savy it gets even more complicated ;-) Thanks

Hi guys I hope that you can give me some ideas about this. I have a sony home theatre that was bundled with a sony TV that i purchased about 5-6 years back. With my old gaming rig, I hook up an HDMI cable to the Sony TV then I have an optical cable connected to the home theatre system from my gaming pc. the problem is that my old gaming rig kicked the bucket and my new one doesnt have any optical cable out. On the back of the HTS, I see that there is an HDMI OUT port and the old style red yellow white round cable holes. Not using the HT is okay, but it would be nice if I could get more usage out of it. Right now, I am using the Sony TV speakers which are a bit shrill and tinny tbh.
