So this is it. I’m leaving Seattle to go back to Arcadia Bay. Usually people go to the High School closest to home. I suppose I am too, it’s just I haven’t lived there for 5 years. Out of all the best photography programs in the world, I choose to go to the smallest, back in a town I was excited about leaving. Maybe I wanted to come back all along, just to see if Chloe and I are still even friends. But I do wish Chloe could have moved with us to Seattle… That city was made for her. When we would play pirates in our rooms and in the woods, it seemed like Seattle was that fabled faraway island of treasure and adventure that we were always seeking. With coffee shops. But Seattle wasn’t like a fable. Au contraire. Now Blackwell Academy seems more exotic to me than any other place in the world. To study photography under Mark Jefferson... SIGH. Insert hearts and flowers. Plus there will be cool diverse students from everywhere. It won’t be like my high school now… I never really found a groove with my classmates. (Or boys…) I’m lucky I have a couple great friends here. But it’s time to ship out. So maybe Arcadia Bay will actually turn out to be the island of treasure and adventure I’ve been looking for...

I know the lighting is bad, but it is cause I use my room's light as the lighting for my camera. For my gaming PC, (That I built when I was fourteen) I got my GPU-less budget rig at the bottom ( I bought an ASUSGPU from amazon that is on backorder) which I built in late 2021, so you know I paid a scalper's price for some parts. I also got a laptop from my school for, well, school stuff. I got iPad BEFORE the PC, it is the original 2014 iPad Air, that I now use for drawing and sprite design for a lil' side-project with the help of an amazon basics capacitive touch stylus. I know that lamp is weirdly placed, it is cause I was gonna use it for reading, but it ended up being too bright. And yes, the cable management could be better but this is the best I could do. Now, RATE MY SET UP!

Okay, so let me explain the whole situation. Recently, my little sister started getting into Overwatch. She uses my desktop and my Battle.Net account all the time to play it. This would be fine, but she is constantly nagging me to be able to use my computer. She's ten by the way. Yes, I know some of you may say she's young to be playing Overwatch or to have her own computer, but I'm not here asking about ethics. Anyway, I was thinking she could get her own computer. So my first thought was to buy some real cheapo, old desktop for like $10 USD and put in either something like an RX 460 or an older card that can play games decently. That would be fine, but currently she doesn't have a desk or any room for a desk, because we're selling our house. Besides the desk too, she would need a monitor. Then, at some point she'd probably need to get a microphone and a web cam and all this other stuff, that although I don't care about having some of it, she's used to using iMacs and would expect to have some of that stuff. So one day I was at school and I started thinking about the laptops they have. They technically have a dedicated GPU, have a first gen i5, and run Windows. They come packed with a webcam, microphone, WIFI, Bluetooth, speakers, and a Windows 7 license that I assume I could use. So it would be the whole package. They're Lenovo Thinkpad T410s. They have an Intel Core i5 m560, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and an Nvidia NVS 3100M. So the specs aren't anything great, but in terms of everything but the GPU, it's considerably better than any new laptop you could buy for <$150 and, for the price I would offer for it, is way cheaper. The GPU is the only part that worries me. It's kind of shit. It's slow and it only supports up to DirectX 10.1. But all she needs to run, at least for now, is Overwatch, which requires at least DirectX 10.1. So this is getting long, but I'll make a TL;DR at the end. My High School uses a lot of Chromebooks, however a few classes still have some 2010-ish era Windows laptops, these Thinkpads included. So, from what I can tell, they're trying to phase out the Windows laptops and the classes that have them hardly use them, because the teachers just request a Chromebook cart when they need them. So I was thinking that I could ask my teacher if I could purchase one of the laptops for something like $20 from the school. I really don't know what she'd say. I can see it going either way. I'm sure they're trying to get rid of them anyway and they have so many of them, so I'm betting I could get one for a good deal one way or another. No matter the GPU, for $20, that would be a steal, but it needs to be able to play Overwatch at some level. One more thing about the GPU is that the Nvidia NVS 3100M that's in there, is still getting driver updates for Windows 10 and will continue getting them for another year or two, I believe. I think it would be a good idea to atleast try and get one of these laptops, but I also am worried that I'm trying to convince myself that I should, because I'm curios. Should I attempt to buy one of these Thinkpads from my High School for my little sister to play Overwatch and hopefully have it be her foray into using computers other than her iPad? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I know it's long as hell. TL;DR: My ten year old sister needs a cheap computer to play Overwatch. A desktop could be the way to go, but currently isn't optimal. My school has 2010-ish laptops that I could attempt to buy for ~$20. Should I attempt to buy one for her to play Overwatch? It's fine if it runs at the lowest settings, it just can't be trash. Thanks! School laptop specs: Lenovo Thinkpad T410 CPU: Intel Core i5 M560 GPU: Nvidia NVS 3100M RAM: 8GB of DDR3 (Not sure of speed) Hard Drive is 140Gb or something. Not that great, but sufficient for our use. I attached a picture of the Windows Experience Index score, because it's the only performance measure I had easy access to. Thanks a lot!

I don't know if there is already a topic for this but I don't think there is. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about FIRST Robotics. More importantly I was wondering if anyone had an idea on what this year's game is. If you don't know what it is go to https://www.firstinspires.org/ to find out more.

Whats the best budget school laptop? I'm not looking for anything special because I only have about $300-$400, all I really need is Decent 720p screen Plenty of USB slots Preferably 4gb of ram for Chrome tabs (lol) reliability (Wont break in 2 months) at least 7 hour battery life I have no need for Touch screen (I have no use for it) To much storage (I can always get flashdrives) LOUD FANS (it'd be great if there were no fans) Good speakers (I got some apple earbuds) Camera (not necessary)

I'm a 22 year old fresh out of college dude, currently working as the only IT guy in a company. I have all the freedom in the world, sadly it's only 20 hours every week, it pays the bills but thats about it. What are you doing right now? Working, studying or maybe trying to make your way through high-school?

I'm starting a build to keep me alive during high school and i just want to be able to play some AAA games at at least a decent frame rate, my current build doesn't even have a gpu so I'm hoping to upgrade quite a bit. The entire build is from amazon but I might switch to pc part picker. For the case I originally wanted to get an NZXT s340 Elite Black/red but it seems like they're not on amazon anymore, also I'm not planning to overclock so i didn't feel the need to get a Z270 or am I5-8400k. $1,300 Amazon Build Case: $102.96 Rosewill ATX Mid Tower: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GSGJBWD/?coliid=I3N587959KX4UI&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it CPU: $204.99 Intel i5-8400 6 cores 4.0 Ghz: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0759FGJ3Q/?coliid=I2N6VIUQD87IQS&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it GPU: $189.99 MSI RX570 8gb: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076Y93L8F/?coliid=I8F0IOZU3LCTH&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it RAM: $129.99 Ballistix Sport (8Gbx2) 3000Mhz: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F6JPLJ2/?coliid=IEG1R5KXHDL7&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it PSU: $49.99 Cooler Master MWE 600w 80+ Bronze: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074ZR8D6P/?coliid=I2D6TFNTCSLSAZ&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Mobo: $138.22 ASUS ROG strix h270f micro atx: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1PND67/?coliid=I19HFDVQG5USCT&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it CPU Cooler: $29.95 Cooler Master Hyper 212: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KBXKP8W/?coliid=I3MGMVFUMIKF5J&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it SSD option 1: $49.00 SanDisk 240Gb: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F9G43WU/?coliid=I30VEGNYYWDFDK&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it SSD option 2: $56.99 Kingston M.2 240Gb: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0088PUEPK/?coliid=I1TIOUPP4HEWKO&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it OS: $105.99 Windows 10 Home 64bit USB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4RBV4T/?coliid=I166JJHJLL011E&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Monitor: $94.99 HP 21.5-in: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015WCV70W/?coliid=I1BGAVPOK2EQ2V&colid=26WMZ74HB6XQP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Keyboard: $99.99 CORSAIR Strafe Mechanical Cherry MX Browns: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Strafe-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=bdl_pop_ttl_B012B6X7MI Mouse: $49.80 CORSAIR M65: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Strafe-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=bdl_pop_ttl_B012B6X7MI Thermal Paste: $6.33 Artic Silver 5 3.5G: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-M65-Pro-RGB-Adjustable/dp/B01D63UU52/ref=bdl_pop_ttl_B01D63UU52 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total: $1260.21 or $1252.22 USD not CAD

Hello everyone! I have a difficult choice to make, and I'd love some advice. I'm 16 years old, and I live in Belgium. I have only 2 years left to complete before I finish high school. In Belgium we call the 2 last years of high school the "3d grade". (first 2 years = "1st grade", 3d and 4th year = "2nd grade"). You're not allowed to change school after starting the 3d grade, so when you make your choice, it will be that way for 2 years. I completed the first 4 years of high school (1st & 2nd grade) in a Waldorf School. This is some kind of private school where they really support independent thinking, and they really try to give every person the chance to develop in their own way. As you might have assumed, this school was a very small school, everyone knows everyone, and contact with teachers is not very formal, it's all very relaxed and personal. At the end of my 4th year, I was tired of the Waldorf School, I wanted a "real school", where I would have to work hard, I wanted this to prepare myself for higher education. So I chose to finish my last 2 years of high school in a school called "Pius X". This is the largest school of Antwerp (the city where I live), and as a result is a very different environment compared to the relaxed and small Waldorf School. I always thought this wouldn't really matter that much to me, since I'd come there to learn, not to talk to the teachers about irrelevant things, or something like that. But now that I completed a few days in my new school, I wish I'd stayed with the Waldorf School. Not because of the extra work I get at "Pius X", that's what I wanted, but because the environment is really not the kind of thing I enjoy. I feel pretty unhappy at this new school, but I feel like it's really the only good way to prepare myself for higher education. Luckily the teachers at the Waldorf School wanted me to stay, so if I wanted to return, I could just ask, and they would make an exception for me. (I know, it's not fair, and they wouldn't do this for other people, but I've heard some teachers even cried in the teacher's room when they were told I was going to leave. They seem to care about me, for some reason.) I still have the choice to go back to my old school, where I'm happy, but I might not be as ready for higher education as I would be if I stayed at "Pius X". So basically, my heart say Waldorf School, but my brain says Pius X. What do I do??? Who knows within half a year I'll be so unhappy at Pius X I stop caring, I stop getting good grades, and my future is destroyed any ways. So what do I do??? any help is welcome.

Anyone else here on an FRC or other FIRST robotics team?

Was just wondering if anyone else here on the forum is on a high school FIRST robotics team. I personally hail from team 1477 Texas Torque! -
I am doing a project for school. I am going to be doing an overclocking presentation with liquid nitrogen. I am looking for Pentium 4, and Celeron D (prescott) Processors. They will be donated to my high school. I am just trying to help other students learn about cooling, a little about overclocking and having a little fun while doing so. I am also looking for 1GB sticks of DDR-1 or DDR2 Memory, also thermal paste would be good thanks for looking!
