I need some help here guys cause any info I'm finding seems to be conflicting. I bought a HP Pro 3500 at a auction for 50$ figured it had a pcix16 in it so I would just take my old HiS HD 7970 and a new psu, slap it together and give my little bro a decent starter pc. Problem is the pc won't see the gpu in the slot and the gpu fans only spin for a second on boot and then just stop on boot. Ive tried a bunch of things but I'm just at my wit's end here and need some better help. (I've updated to win10 uefi, I've tested the gpu in my rig, the psu is brand new evga 450 watt, I've updated the mobo bios to v8.?.?, And I've made sure that the pci slot is enabled in the bios.) What am I missing here

I'm building a used budget gaming pc and stuck between a evga gtx 680ftw+ or a xfx hd 7970. The xfx he 7970 is $120 and the gtx 680ftw+ is $130. I'm only looking to play at 1080p and games like fallout 4, overwatch, bf4

Hej, I had to choose a Christmas present for myself this year, and i really needed a new monitor... I was wondering if my HD 7970 Could handle games at 4K with a respectably playable FPS. or should i instead get a new GPU and stay with the 1080P monitor. and also. The 4K monitor is on sale right now. So i would get the monitor for the Price of a 2 1050 TI's or a single 1060 or a used 1070. The monitor costs 350 Euros. I wont use the card for some 4k Crysis or something, I'll do some lighter gaming, like Borderlands 2 or Some older games. Maybe occasionally i'll play some AAA games but not much. Ohh and also, I will probably watch some Netflix, The size is 40" so i can see it from the couch i have behind me. I tested 4k With the HD 7950 OC in Borderlands 2 It played fairly well, had to sacrifice the Max settings to medium/High, But still got a good 60.So i think the 7970 can handle 4k in Borderlands with High settings.

Hi all! Winter is coming, and I'm considering upgrading my build, I'm pretty sure the GPU is obsolete, but I'm not sure about the CPU. I can still play most recent games without problems at 60-75fps like COD, BF4, PUBG.. btw, my actual build is: CPU: i5-3570K @4.0Ghz Motherboard: ASUS Maximus V Formula RAM: (2x4gb) Corsair Vengeance 1866 GPU: XFX R7970HGHz BE PSU: Enermax Revolution87+ 650w Storage: 500gb SSD + 4TB local HDD I already found a friend who's interested in buying my used GPU eventually. Build Plan Guidelines: 1. Budget & Location Italy, as for the budget I'm open, I have a job and some savings so I can afford to buy a new system like this one, I don't want to waste money if I can just upgrade 1-2 pieces tho.. but if you want a number I can say.. prolly ~600-700€ (considering I think I don't need to buy a new PSU, Storage or Case, I don't think I'll reach 1k. you tell me) 2. Aim Mostly gaming, COD, Battlefield, Star Citizen... (not DOTA or Overwatch graphic level). I also do some Blender Rendering as a hobby but so far my scenes are simple enough to be resolved with my GPU (but looks like almost everything works only with CUDAs... ) 3. Monitors 3 NEC MultiSync 1880SX, but I only game on the central one and I'm planning on getting a 16:9 if I can find a good prince now that 4K is reaching the consumer market

I'm currently on the prowl for a gpu after my brother moved out (taking his PC I've been using with him) And I have found a plethora of options and im fuckin torn over all of them lol I found an HD 7970 for $100 on craigslist with "Very low operating time." If I choose to pursue this card I'm going to try to get him down to $80 because duh I found a GTX 1060 for $150 on craigslist. I already reached out to the guy with an offer for it but have received no response. (It's a fairly old post so he might have sold it or something) I found a GTX 780 3GB for 150 I found a pair of GTX 760s 110 a piece or 190 for both (slightly negotiable) I found a pair of R9 280xs for 120 a piece or 220 for both I am a semi-competitive rainbow six siege player so maximum performance is a factor. but im also tight on cash and want the best mix of cost and perf. I can afford any of the offers listed above but I don't just want to buy the most expensive cards. Id rather spend 150 on a 1060 than 190 for the 760s if I get more performance per dollar. I play the game with settings in the most performance oriented way possible. Advice?

Hej, so i was doing my stuff online when i started to look at the graphics cards, and i thought of mine. i looked it up on techpowerup, it said that the Gigabyte HD 7950 Windforce x3 OC FZ0 has two 6-pin connectors, but my card has one 6-pin connector and a 8-pin connector. is it possible that the person who used it before me flashed the cards bios from a HD 7970's to a Hd 7950's... I couldn't find any evidence of the card having a 6-pin and 8-pin connector. anywhere on two 6-pin connectors. if anyone has the slightest clue of it being possible let me know.

My GPU got hot as hell on a XP rig I built just to screw around. I burned the Middle finger on the back of my hand just touching the plastic shroud where it says Radion. Is that normal. Card isn't overclocked and I was just playing a Pop Cap game that should not require any GPU to run. Also cover was not on side of case. Not even touchable. Reference card, blower style. Also PSU was warm. Can there be a short in card. I will try Hardware Monitor to see temp of card. Doesn't seem right.

Hello, I have a reference version of the Powercolor HD 7970 that displays a black screen down as soon as it hits 74 Degrees. The card works fine and everything, it's just when it hits that temp it seems to break when I test it using kombustor. I have tried the BIOS switch on the card, and that did not affect it. It did work with an accelero, but using that is not an option. Underclocking/ Undervolting does nothing to stop the card form hitting 74. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I found a used R9 380 for 130$ and an HD 7970 for 89$.... Which is the better purchase?

Title says it all. Picked up an HD 7970 for 60$ on craigslist. I think I did pretty good on this considering how inflated prices are even on the used market. Thanks for looking.

Hello, I recently got an XFX HD 7970. It is the double dissipation card, with a base clock of 1050Mhz. After I got it, I took it apart and put new thermal paste on it. To see the performance of my 'new' card, I tested it in some games, only to see that it was reaching insane temps (99 Degrees C) when it was running. Once it hit those temps, it throttles to 500Mhz and drops to 72 Degrees. I was considering building a water loop to cool it more effectively, but other reviews saw that card running at 72 degrees under load, at 975Mhz. I have already cleaned out the dust, and it did not help. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, please tell me, because I hate running my games at 500Mhz when I know that they can be run at 1.05Ghz. Thank you, Opencircuit74 P.S. I have attacked a picture to show the problem.

So it happens to me way too often. I download msi afterburner to overclock my graphics card. I leave it stock for gpu clock (1100) and add another 100 mhz on the memory (1600) and make my power limit +20 even though I think it might not be necessary. For the first few days it works fine no problems. After some days though it reverts to dead stock (not even the factory overclock is there) It goes back to 1000 and 1500.So I have to install another overclocking software for some time and it is a headache to do it all the time. I like afterburner because it has good monitoring and great onscreen display with rivaTuner. Everything else I have tried is inferior imo. Any suggestion on how to fix this? Hey! I'm getting 2 HD 7970s from my friend, (for free) and wondered if the ASUS Z170-A supports 2-Way CrossFire. It says it supports 3-Way and 4-Way, but does it also support 2-Way? EDIT: Also, how many fans does it support?

On a graphics card I intend to connect Kraken G10 with Thermaltake Water 3.0 Performer. Now I would like to know where to connect 3 pin connector of watercooler head? Should I buy a 3 pin Y splitter and connect it together with fan of the G10 on fan slot in graphic card? Should I connect it to the motherboard (any fan slot or specificly on slot for watercooler heads, if there is any difference), or should I plug it with 4-pin molex direct to the AC adapter? I would be very grateful for any answers.

I have the option to trade in my XFX HD 7970 for 2 GTX 670 FTW's, however I'm afraid that the VRAM on the 670's will lead to a fair amount of bottle necking at 1440p. Is this a well based fear, or unfounded? Thanks! ~Dialasis

Hi guys At the moment I have my trusty HD 7770 and it holds up well, it just gets a little noisy and now I have some funds replacing it I might be able to spare up for a 980Ti/Fury X or similar, the reason why I wont is that I do not need that horsepower, so I am not wasting money there, and the price difference between a used card mentioned above and current high end offers are the cost of a massive festival in Amsterdam, so I rather choose that Anyway, these 2 cards are on ebay, 7970 is a bit cheaper (non GHz, I can OC) with £20-30, ref/non ref, than GTX 770 I am aware that they are basically trade blows in performance, similar TDP (I have a 550W Gold XFX supply) and they are 2 generation old cards, but I reckon they are powerful enough for good 1080p gaming and for medium multi monitor gaming What are the differences, that might affect my usage? They will have probably the MSI Lighning cooler, so cooling and noise not a concern, and maybe later on they will be WC-d In other question: should I have a preference or go for the cheapest?

I just searched alot on the internet about I can crossfire these cards I have, but I found mixed answers so I hope you guys can help me. Can i crossfire Radeon HD 7970 and R9 280 (not X)?

So I'm looking for a GPU solution to make the most of my 1440p monitor for gaming. I was awed by the GTX 780, but it seems it hasn't quite got all the power to play every game at 1440p at reasonable fps. I looked at SLI and realized that would be major overkill. So, here are my options: 1. 1 x GTX 780 £550 2. 2 x GTX 780 £1100 3. 2 x GTX 770 2GB £660 4. 2 x HD 7970 Ghz Ed 3/6GB £600-£700 5. 2 x GTX 770 4GB £760 - £850 6. 1 x HD 7990 6GB £650 The lower I can keep my budget the better, but I'd be willing to stretch it if needed.

Hi, Can't get drivers to come up on AMD web sight when I check it. When I check for drivers, I put HD Series, & 7900 Series. It Fails showing a error message from the web sight. Then I use the auto check & it comes up with R9 2xx Series on the web sight. Don't know if that is correct or not. When I check from the Catalyst it comes up with 14.20-140522a-172180E-ATI Beta driver. I'm guessing that it is up to date because WQHL one does not show. It shows 14.10.1006-140417a-171099c for standard driver, none beta. Further inspection show Cat 14.4. This is kind of interesting because I don't know if the 14.20 one is cat 14.6 beta. Does not seem that the sight wants to work properly for me anyway. My card is a HD 7970 or MSI R7970.

I guess I've been a bit biast against AMD, But I've decided to look at all the facts fair and square for which card I'm going to get for my future build - The GTX 760 or the 7970. (Or the 280X, if you want to talk about that instead) I don't want to hear that the 7970 is better for the price, I already know that. I want to hear what advantages and disadvantages each card has. I want to run them in 2-way SLI/Crossfire (Is the new R9 Series compatible with crossfire?). I do video editing in premiere and after effects as well as gaming (Minecraft w/ Shaders, BF3 and 4, Warframe) and some of these games across 3 screens (Which explains why I want 2) I'm looking for fair, un-biast responses. I'll accept fair opinions Thanks guys.

Over the past few months my computer would just crash in Bf4. This would happen ever so often but now its consistent. Some of my games that crash are JC2, Dirt3, Bf3, Bfbc2, etc. For some reason i am still able to play some games including LOL and some other titles but not really ones that i really want to play. Would flipping to bios switch solve my problem?

Just figured that I would show off the result of a e8500 with a HD 7970 running Windows XP. There are stutters in some of the test. I think it is because it's only a dual core CPU. I plan to upgrade it to a Q9650. I think it did OK for what it is. It could use a Sound Card. I have a Creative Audigy 2 Value. I would use Audigy RX, but my PCIEx1 slot is covered by my HD 7970. DDR3, LGA 775, and Floppy are definitely a odd combination. Asrock G41C-GS R2.0 is the only Main Board I could find at time that I built this thing that supports Floppy and DDR3. It also has HP DVD multi drive to install my old Games all though I use GOG Offline installers now with no DRM. Make XP less of a pain in the ass to use for old games. I will redo tests if the Q9650 CPU at 3 GHz and 12MB L2 Cache works. I wonder if heatsink is ok. 95 watt TDP. E8500 is I believe 65 watt TDP. It runs good. And It has all of XP's updates up to end support. I figured it would be fun to mess around with it.Now I hope that I have my Audigy 2 Value drivers because there is no support for the card anymore from Creative. Could be SOL for that. Should be a nutty XP build. Need to find something besides HP optical drives. I might have a couple Dell drives somewhere. Trying to make it look original from outside and have old functions like floppy. I have a couple of Optiplexs' that I could use DVD rom drives from to finish the look. Anyway that's the F.E.A.R. test for 1920x1080 Settings at High settings with E8500 CPU. 3.16GHz with 6 MB cache L2. Halfish of Q9650. Top CPU @ 3GHz.
